Where The Federal Money Goes - Then and Now
The Left loves to carry on about how defense spending is the reason why the Federal budget has such a huge deficit, but as you can see here that just isn't the case.
As a percent of the overall budget spending on defense - a core function of the federal government mind you - is at it's lowest level in over 50 years. The real issue is that medical and safety net spending has grown from a paltry 7% of the budget during the Kennedy Administration to nearly 36% today. And note that this is before ObamaCare spending starts kicking in.
Extrapolating a few years ahead you can see that the US government is on track to become a giant insurance company that happens to have a military and some government services as a sideline.
In the Future Every Soldier Will Have a Personal Cruise Missile
Oh wait - the future is now:The U.S. Marine Corps is buying an unspecified number of Switchblade micro-UAV/cruise missiles. The marines apparently noted the success the U.S. Army and SOCOM (Special Operations Command) had with this system. The Switchblade is a one kilogram (2.2 pound) expendable (used only once) UAV that can be equipped with explosives. The Switchblade is launched from its shipping and storage tube, at which point wings flip out, a battery powered propeller starts spinning, and a vidcam begins broadcasting images to the controller.
Moving at up to a kilometer a minute, the Switchblade can stay in the air for 20-40 minutes (depending on whether or not it is armed with explosives). The armed version can be flown to a target and detonated, having about the same explosive effect as a hand grenade.

A Review of the 1974 Fall TV Guide
A lot of utterly forgettable 70's TV shows and a few classics. He was officer in the Polish Army at the beginning of WWII and after Poland's defeat by the Germans and Russians he helped found The Secret Polish Army, one of the main resistance organizations.
He is also likely the only person to have ever created an intelligence cell and clandestine radio station from within Auschwitz in order to get word of what was happening there to the outside world.
During World War II, he volunteered for a Polish resistance operation to get imprisoned at Auschwitz in order to gather intelligence and escape. While in the camp, Pilecki organized a resistance movement and as early as 1941, informed the Western Allies of Nazi Germany's Auschwitz atrocities. He escaped from the camp in 1943 and took part in the Warsaw Uprising. He remained loyal to the London-based Polish government-in-exile and was executed in 1948 by the Stalinist secret police Urzad Bezpieczenstwa on charges of working for "foreign imperialism", thought to be a euphemism for MI6.
For his troubles he was tortured and executed by the post-war communist Polish government and his memory was suppressed.
Thanks to Wretchard of the Belmont Club for helping keep him from being forgotten. And explaining why the Poles are so angry now at Obama's casual insult.

I was trying to play some guitar chords for a Dire Straits song, the bar chords were physically inpossible, then I saw a picture of Mark Knoffler (sp?) holding a National guitar and his fingers looked like they were 9 inches long, Eric Clapton's fingers look like a foot long...I don't know what this has to do with anything...
But Eric Clapton seems to get some hot chicks...

A flashback to Carter era policies and a threat to Navy combat readiness...
This from The Heritage Foundation:
The year was 1979. America’s military had emerged from the Vietnam War earlier in the decade and was now facing sizable and significant budget cuts. Capt. Tom Shanahan, commanding officer of the USS Canisteo, had just returned from the Mediterranean Sea and was now leading an overhaul of his fleet supply ship. Over the course of 10 months, the crew assigned to the Canisteo gradually disappeared, relocated by the Navy to other assignments. Those personnel cuts eventually left Shanahan with so few men that he couldn’t take his ship to sea. “Little by little, they stripped us of a lot of the people we had, key people,” Shanahan recounted recently. “By the time we were ready to get underway from the shipyard and go back to Norfolk, we didn’t have enough people. We didn’t have enough people in any of the departments, but mainly we didn’t have enough people in the engine room.”
Shanahan took the bold step of refusing to certify his ship as seaworthy. He warned his superiors long before his readiness reports. Yet when he deemed his warship not ready for combat, it came as a surprise to many in the military.

We cut back both of our Kousa dogwoods in a serious way last fall and they have come back with a vengeance. I am not sure if this is a tree or a bush, but ours have taken over the area where we planted them. I recently saw one that was truly immense so they do need some sort of maintenance. An arborist might be a good investment.

Maybe that's why California thinks it can spend without worry... They probably think anything inside of CA is made of Californium 252 and can be sold to pay the bills.
Might explain the DC mentality too... thinking they'll just put California up for sell and try to get market price for Californium 252 for everything within the borders... Or just eventually cede it over to China... (Think China would fall for it?)

Nah, as long as you have normal size fingers you should be able to reach the E string for barre chords. Knoffler and Clapton aren't big men. FWIW, Knoffler finger-picks everything.
BTW, Clapton is married to a 30(?) year old hotel hospitality worker and has a house in Columbus, OH. His chick days are over. he's an old man

The story of that brave Polish Army officer shows why the Polish were deeply offended when the SCOAMF talked about "Polish death camps" rather than "Nazi death camps in Poland." It is an important distinction to the Poles because both Hitler and Stalin pursued policies of ethnic cleansing in an attempt to eliminate Polish culture. An estimated 25% of Poland's population was killed in WWII.
Last I've heard, President Gutsy Call can't take 30 seconds to apologize for a slip of the tongue and say he never meant to imply that the Polish government operated death camps. Doing that would harsh the God-King's mellow.

I am, indeed.
The storm took out a lot of trees and fences and a few roofs, but the rain was the big trouble-maker. The regular spots flooded pretty severely; Cassat and I-10, St. Johns Avenue in Riverside, San Marco Blvd, and the creeks over on the Northside.
I drove A1A up to Fort Clinch yesterday and through Amelia Island where there are so many trees, it was pretty interesting. There were some really big oaks that were toppled over and other trees that just snapped in half, but the surprising thing was how many trees appeared to be twisted apart. To my knowledge, we didn't have any tornadoes.

All those those douche-bags, Marxists and poseurs at the White House aren't close to being as worldly as they think they are. The SCOAMF isn't as well-read as he pretends to be. I remember reading an article comparing President G.W. Bush's reading to that of the SCOAMF: Bush was concurrently reading multiple books of different topics while Obama read magazine and newspaper articles about himself.

Replace all four for a lot of AWD vehicles due to transmission requirements. Pairs make sense for most others. 4x4 is per owner's manual (IOW RTFM)
Posted by: Hrothgar at May 31, 2012 07:47 PM (i3+c5)
Yeah I'd replace all 4 in that case. At a minimum, replace at least two. The old wisdom was to put the 2 new ones on the front and the older ones on the back. Now though, you actually have to sign a waiver to get them to do this -- studies have shown a greater risk of spinout with the new ones on the front. Maybe that's due to most cars being front wheel drive now.

DOH! Yeah, on the back not on the front. My tire guy just told me this, too. Yep, the good tires on the back keep the rear axle planted when things get squirrely and since there's generally less weight back there you want as much grip as possible.

There is no price difference between getting 2 or 4 - it is exactly the same price per tire. So I was just hoping to get another year of the front tires (damaged the back).
The price isn't a super concern though if there is value in replacing all 4 at once.

I'm of Polish ancestry and I vaguely remember as a kid my parents taking me to visit a great-aunt who's husband had been a Polish Army officer. He escaped from a Russian train and was able to get to the U.K. They found each other after the war ended and came to America. His health was damaged and he died relatively young. True to an extent - however, it is important to consider the end goal. There should be no entitlement spending, and in fact the majority of federal spending should be defense.

AHA! the entire season/series is on Netflix.
BTW, I've been a major fan of Netflix since they first started up, but with them losing out on some of the movie deals the past couple of years they have been sliding. I'm still with them, but now I'm also trying out Amazon's Prime program. Thus far, they have a much better selection of both movies and tv shows. And, anything not in the Prime program can still be rented or purchased for a price, an option not available at Netflix. Then again, Terriers is $1.99 per episode at Amazon so, in this particular case, Netflix beats them.
The Amazon Prime program is less than $80 a year, so its a really good deal.

This isn't the parody you wanted, I'm sure, but this is what came out of me (channeling the voice of a not-quite-brain-dead-but-wishing-s/he-was Obamabot):
I found a poster of you, oh oh oh
I hung up Election night.
But that hope of the past
DidnÂ’t last too long, oh oh oh.
Now you canÂ’t get it right.
But IÂ’m back on the train, hey,
Oh, IÂ’m back with the Choom Gang.
EconomyÂ’s beyond your control, oh oh oh,
But IÂ’ll trust TV and the news of the world
When they proclaim your opponentÂ’s from Hell, oh oh oh
Throw sand in my eyes and mislead me with lies.
Shove me back on the train, yeah,
Oh, back with the Choom Gang.
The powers that be
That want me to vote for Term Two
Bring my to my knees
When I see they donÂ’t have a clue.
But IÂ’ll die as I stand here today
Rather than vote for an “R”,
So I will turn my brain off
And turn on Bill Maher...
I found a poster of you, oh oh oh
Those were the happiest days of my life.
Though youÂ’ve broken your pledges, I wonÂ’t part, oh oh oh --
ThatÂ’s the wretched fate of a bleeding heart.
IÂ’ll be back on the train, yeah
Back with the Choom Gang.

I honestly think Mike is a bit funnier than Joel (and he was head writer from season 3 on, I think). I prefer Mike's episodes more. When they DO get on the political stuff (and it's rare), I can usually blow it off. The jokes are worth it. Too fucking funny.

There will be some diversions and systems will be moved "out of place," but that might not be all bad.

Yep! We're gonna collide with Andromeda. "Head on" means fuck all in this instance. Useless hyperbole. They'll swirl around each other for a while throwing out stars and systems before reforming as one giant elliptical galaxy. Where it gets interesting is when the two supermassive blackholes (whoops, racism) at the center of each galaxy meet.

Read, no. Follow, yes. Follow is specific to the service. It only means that on your 'main page' in Twitter, those persons' comments are dropped directly in front of you.
Look, I understand the concept of avoiding new BS intardnet candy; I didn't join either FacePlant or Twitter for years, but they both have their place when used properly.
Twitter should be a requirement for all the conservatively inclined; we're kicking ass there. All you need is a throw-away email account. Just sign up for a new account on Yahoo or Hotmail without adding real info and sign up.
Add 5 people like @AceofSpadesHQ, Jonah Goldberg (@JonahNRO ) , or your favorite news site.. and, bam, it's a neverending blog feed.

We have been together almost 14 years, so we think it took, and decided to make it official.

Any theory as to why she took a sabbatical from work to sit in court for all this?

Was curious. I am an old timer and got rid of my albums but prior to that, I recorded them to my reel-to-reel with DBX. Has served me well and has awesome sound quality. Haven't decided to computerize them yet since sound signals are analog coming out of the speakers. Was wondering if it was worth it. Have over 8000 songs on my hard drive as it is.

"Yep! We're gonna collide with Andromeda. "Head on" means fuck all in this instance. Useless hyperbole. They'll swirl around each other for a while throwing out stars and systems before reforming as one giant elliptical galaxy. Where it gets interesting is when the two supermassive blackholes (whoops, racism) at the center of each galaxy meet."
Robert, you are an encyclopedia of ignorance.
You should also climb down from that meth you are taking. It'll rot your teeth, if nothing else.
* "Head on" means collision course. Got it?
* yes, Andromeda and the Milky Way are on a collision course.
* NO, they will not swirl around each other; swirl around each other does not equal collision.
* if they whirl around each other, why would their supermassive black holes collide?
* When they collide, many outcomes are possible, depending upon their relative mass and collision speed. Dark matter complicates the calculation of both.
* NO, they will not necessarily throw "out stars and systems [sic] before reforming as one giant elliptical galaxy." It's quite possible they will just keep on going, albeit with their structures altered. Maybe not.
We've got many photos of galaxies that have absorbed others they've collided with, and given a few billion years, resulted on another spiral galaxy.
Here's one:
http://tinyurl.com/6luwbwz
Notice that little irregularity in the galactic plane?
The one that makes it look like pizza dough thrown up in the air?
That's from a galaxy that collided a fuck of a long time ago, whose absorbed mass has not yet been evenly distributed.
We've got many other cases where the galaxies effectively pass through each other, leaving one deformed, non-elliptical result.
Here are examples:
http://tinyurl.com/6y2mmr
Do you see a whole lotta elliptical galaxies resulting from those collisions?
Do you own a telescope, skippy?

Better researched fact: common-law marriage was based on "holding yourselves out" as married, which we've never done....and went over the transom after the Lee Marvin Palimony case. While no one can say exactly what a court will do (see Aaron Walker), we're reasonably certain that we don't qualify as married.
Which, BTW, is a good thing since we've both been in management. Employees have developed a nasty tendency to go for the jugular when criticized -- which amazingly never puts their performance into the "acceptable" range. If you point out that everyone else on the team does 200 widgets a week and they're doing 120, you can be racist, sexist, age-ist, have unrealistic expectations, must compare them to part-timers despite their pulling down a full-time salary, have a personal grudge, have made a disparaging remark, or have a vile and disgusting personal characteristic that makes you a spiteful person -- all of which can give rise to time-consuming investigations by the EEOC or DoL which inevitably gin-up trivial crap that forms the basis for gold-digging lawsuits. We've both seen it happen to people.

as to the other that is the rule of thumb. no there is no common law marriage, but if you have the "qualifications" you might as well be, in the eyes of California law. Sux. but i have seen people get hosed thinking they were safe. Seems palimony law makes all long term arrangemts suck when you break up.

I Guess in Missouri and in Tx if you have it posted all over that horses are big and dangerous and you enter at own risk, you are A-OK. So you see such signs all over, saying "If you can read this, you cant sue." Seems to work. i was fascinated.

Yeah, it's especially common for upper management to go: "Your guys all need to do 200 widgets -- make sure they're all doing 200" -- and when some 120-widget slacker starts randomly throwing allegations, they'll cut a deal that leaves the manager hanging, like "we pay $10,000, and you agree not to sue us or question why we had a person on staff that hates left-handed brunettes."
And the manager is going, "wait, what? I don't hate left-handed people, or brunettes......I've got to get a lawyer?!??!?" Mind you, actual racism, sexism, etc. is illegal, and (unless you're in the mafia), it's tough to argue that acting illegally is within the scope of your job duties.....so the manager isn't automatically protected by the employer. And, BTW, if the person is fired, then their access to "200-widget" emails disappears.
This was more common back in the 90's. But you didn't have to go very far in Silicon Valley to see somebody ruined by this game. Didn't matter if they were male/female, young/old, whatever ethnicity.

This is a spiral galaxy, ESO 510-G13. It's been warped from interracting with other galaxies. It is not presently colliding with any others.
http://tinyurl.com/6y2mmr
Do you see a whole lotta elliptical galaxies resulting from those collisions?
No, possibly because they're still in the process of coalescing. Or did you think that was the end of it? I did post two very good videos showing what a collision between the Milky Way and Andromeda would look like, but you chose to ignore them. Who's ignorant again?
But thanks, really, you posted some really excellent examples of what I was talking about.

In the case of the BH and I, we recognize that we could each be bankrupted by such a case that got wonky.....and take slight comfort that the other would have untouchable assets that could be used for a reboot. But it's a real risk -- if you're going to manage people in California, you risk everything you've got every day, even if you have an employer setting goals.

One time, we had this QA inspector who quit. As we were processing this guy out, someone commented that we were losing the only black guy in our 40-person company, which startled me.
I seriously hadn't realized he was "black". We had Hispanics on board with darker skin, and a Fijian who was more typically Melanesian, and folks from India, the Philippines, Norway, China, Switzerland, Vietnam, and Tulare in the mix -- and we were all hustling so much to try to keep up with events that it had never occurred to anyone to count up who was what.
Only later, it crossed my mind that I'd dodged a bullet. If someone had wanted to make an issue of his leaving, it would have been costly and disruptive to defend.
