Now this is just an animated GIF but it's interesting how the addition of even a little motion turns it into something more than just a comic panel. For an even better example with sound, motion, and perspective check out this sample of the graphic novel, Soul Reaper.
And given advancements in smart paper, cheap low-power computing and new multimedia features in HTML5 it's not hard to imagine that full-on interactive books with active graphics and sound will be available within the decade.
Add in more computing and ubiquitous networking and eventually everyone will own their own personal "A Young Lady's Illustrated Primer". You can already see hints of what's possible in this ipad app.
Well I'm with Mark Steyn on this one. It's always struck me as odd that we address politicians by office titles they don't hold - and maybe haven't held in years or decades. While Counts, Dukes, Baronesses etc. at least are referred to by the titles they currently have.
I'm with Kevin and the president in preferring "Mr. Romney" over "Governor Romney." The primary debates were all "Governor", "Senator" and "Mr. Speaker", even though there wasn't a single governor, senator, or speaker on the stage. What's the point of a republic if a guy can serve one term in the House of Representatives in the early Seventies and be addressed as "Congressman" until he keels over half-a-century later? Turning offices into titles of nobility is, to my mind, even more unrepublican than having a bunch of marquesses and viscounts queening it up because "Senator", "Governor" et al. are titles that by definition are in the gift of the people and, when the people are no longer willing to bestow said title or the office-holder declines to submit himself to their adjudication, the use thereof should cease.

Where To Find Awesome Classic Games You Can Play Online
If you miss playing your favorite old-school games, thanks to the interwebz you're in luck. Atari has their own game page as does Microsoft and you can even play flash-based versions of Doom and Quake. So let's not hear any more whinging about 'too much free-time' okay?
McDonald's Food in Ads vs in Real Life
Here's a video showing how McDonald's makes their food look so appealing in photographs. They use all the same ingredients that you'd find in any restaurant but have to make adjustments in order to show off all the ingredients in a single shot. On the other hand since you're guaranteed to never get a hamburger as it's shown in the ads, it is sort of a lie too.
Judging People - Not by the Color of Their Skin But By The Color of Their Shoes
So a recent study found that you can tell a lot about someone just by looking at their shoes:
this experiment shows that you really can judge a person by their shoes ... and you do not need to see anything else to do so.Psychologists from the University of Kansas found that the style, value, colour and condition of the footwear can paint a picture of the owner's emotional, political and other vital personality traits.
It is such a giveaway that in the tests, observers who were shown a picture of a pair of shoes were able to guess a person's characteristics at better-than-chance levels on 45 percent of the dimensions that were measured.
And sometimes stereotypes do hold up:
Liberal thinkers, who many think of as sandal wearing hippies, did not surprise. They really do wear scruffier and less expensive shoes, said the research.
And for all you dudes out there - the ladies really do check out your shoes so don't go cheap in the footwear.
Yahoo group. That is all.

Sorry, grampa, the judging is done independent of your consent. I remember running into Phil Bredesen back when he was the mayor of Nashville, prior to his run as governor, and wondering why his suit was rumpled and his shoes unshined. If a man cant keep his shoes shined, is he really worthy to run a city? Of course he was always a rumpled youknowwhatstick from Massachusetts, so I guess I shouldn't have been surprised he was slob as well.

Great day shooting today. Burned up most all the Russian 7.62, and oldest grandkid did herself proud first time out with the M-14.
I watched her from slightly behind and to her right, monitoring her trigger discipline. She never put a finger inside the trigger until she was absolutely ready. Then it was crush the stock slowly (as I taught) until it fired. She ran 10 rounds through all told, and was in the black .
I be some kind of proud.

We had that in the West, too - at least, the Egyptians had it: hieroglyphic and hieratic. The point was to create an ideography such that people in 1500 BC could write a text that their successors in 100 BC would be able to read.
If I want to read Beowulf, I have to buy a translation. A translation. Why should I have to trust someone's translation, or else learn a new language, just to read my own ancestors' work?
Screw that, said the Egyptians; and screw that, said the Chinese. We're not going to use that weird Near Eastern invention, the "alphabet". We're going to stick with pictographs, try to make them as easy to write as we can, and make sure the structure of our language doesn't change.
So the Chinese can still read Ssuma Chien; and we the English need help with Chaucer, and need a dictionary or Google even with Shakespeare.

Of course those only count if you make them from a deer you killed yourself, using all the parts while saying a prayer to the animal spirits for rain and a good harvest. Fauxcahontas always uses all of the parts of the animals she buys at the Whole Foods - even the icky ones! - when her maid prepares dinner. Her indigenous and locally-sourced rescue dogs are well-fed, in the tradition of her valiant ancestors. She's gone so far as to use broken eggshells to clean out her in-sinkerator.

I don't have a commie rifle...mine is a 1942 Finn M39 built from a Mosin receiver on a contract from 1893 by the French arsenal at Chatellerault, back when neither Russia nor France had any friends except for one another. It's actually a Mosin-Nagant with no Russian parts*, odd as that is.
*Since they were all built up during WWII, the bolt and other action parts may contain captured Russian parts.

You can get around that by starting the clip while holding the bolt back with the side of your hand. When the clip is fully inserted, bring the thumb up and out of the receiver with a rotating motion. This will prevent the M-1 thumb which indeed is painful.

Smith and Wesson 3913 9mm automatic. You CAN leave one in the chamber with the mag out, slide safety OFF and the gun won't fire since it has a mag safety. Insert a mag, and there's no need to rack the slide to have it be ready to shoot.

Don't go cheap. Get a quality firearm, S&W or Colt or Ruger, avoid the off-brands or copies like Taurus. I had a Taurus .357 that was good, but it's hit or miss with some of them. If it's going to be the one you depend on, make it dependable.

The magazing safety feature is why a lot of cops prefer certain S/W automatics. Get into a struggle with a perp who's trying o take you gun, and all you need to do is hit the mag release button to render it harmless.

Absolutely. Nothing worse than having a gun that isn't ready when you need it. I keep my .45 loaded (NOT cocked and locked) on the nightstand, in a holster. Every morning when the dog goes out, the gun gets unloaded outside. Same thing when we go to bed--outside. loaded and safed.

Can be, yes, but everything I've read suggests that the Marlin is better set up for it right out of the box. Just needs sights, doesn't need trigger work, sling swivels, etc. I think Marlin made the 795 specifically with Appleseed in mind. Besides, my Marlin 60 is a tack driver and I'd like to stick with the brand.
The model 60 would be OK for Appleseed if I had the speed loader for it, but I've really got my eye on the 795. I have not been to an Appleseed but I really would like to go. I'd bring my EBR for the second part of it.
From what I understand bolt actions are OK, just a little slow is all. The website says they pretty much welcome any gun any caliber.

I miss Deadwood.
How can you not love a Chinese character who only knew one word of English, cocksucker? And could carry on a whole conversation with it?
And fuck? That brings me to "House of the Dead: Operation Overkill." Holy shit, that game is awesome. Holds a record, I've heard, for the most F-bombs in a video game. And: With top-notch dialog like, "Move aside, diaper shit!" how can it not be 5 stars?

I like an ancient Walther .32 PP for carry. Small, doesn't kick at all, and I can draw and drop 3 in a pie plate size target at 20' in under 2.5sec. A trio of .32 Silvertips in the chest will get anyone's attention. If something is worth shooting, its worth shooting several times.

I once shot a rat with a 12 gauge in a semi-dark basement. Huge fireball and I couldn't hear for a half hour, it took a couple of days for the ringing to stop. The .357 revolver loaded with .38 rounds (which is what was originally specified) will not be as loud, nor will it throw as big a fireball, as a 12 ga with 00 buckshot. I can tell you that from personal experience, not as a "well I heard" or "I read in a magazine" kind of thing. (I have also shot my previously mentioned .357 Taurus with .38 rounds in an indoor range without hearing protection cause I forgot to put them back on, no fireball and while the shock did ring my eardrums a bit it wasn't nearly as loud as the shotty. I put my earpro back on in a big damn hurry though.)

I'm really getting to hate their NFL coverage, which consists of slobbering over the NFC East, the Patriots, and the Manning brothers.
Wait, they do talk about the Jets, but with ESPN it's Kardashians type of coverage. Whining about all the coverage the backup QB gets while bringing the backup QB up in every story of their own

as to shootin' rats in the basement... I agree!! It was an article I read on the web about the 357 and flame and bang. I cannot imagine shooting anything in a house with no hearing protection. It's deafening outside.. A shotgun in the house would be loud and bright.
A funny story I read a few years back about a guy who shot a squirrel in his house when his wife was screaming he do something. He shot it with his .45 and it was a pretty funny story him recanting all that happened. Good night guys and sorry to argue w Merovign, Dark Lord of the Sith. lashing out at reporters, leaving the Ong Bak film crew and everyone as he went and spent 3 or 4 months in the jungle by himself (he was producing and directing), shitting all over the dude who made him who he is and just general douchebaggery.
It's the reason why he was dropped to supporting roles and villains. Being likeable to the audience is probably the biggest thing needed to be an action star and he doesn't have it after he broke out with the first Ong Bak

And yes Mr President, everything, as you always say, is my fault. I made you socialize medicine, because obviously I failed to do so in my term. I won the Iraq war, but I didn't win it quickly enough so that you couldn't lose the peace. I failed, miserably, to get Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, and Joe Biden to stop protecting Fannie Mae from any oversight, and because of that we entered a deep recession.
And speaking of Sheriff Joe, it is my fault that he asks the handicapped to stand, doesn't know how many letters are in the word jobs, and tells racist jokes.
It is also my fault that you plundered the treasury to pay off your political allies, ran guns to Mexican drug cartels, and outted a real honest to goodness intelligence asset...and all because my name is Bush...obviously. By the way Joe - same number of letters as jobs.

Last night I counted myself out of the graphic novel bullshit, and if tonight's entry on the ONT is illustrative of the art then count me out again. Good God what bullshit. On the other hand, what is illustrated by the comic book inadequacy to hit home runs is a symptom of all modern literature. Modern literature aims for the niches, because it is far easier to stroke egos in the spinward marches than it is to present shining goodness from the core.

--I think he has the intangibles. I half-watched the PS3-style bowl game Baylor played against Washington, and the amazing stat was that despite the record-breaking score (highest point total by one team in a bowl game, broken just days later by WVU against Clemson), RGIII scored only 2 TDs total --passing and rushing-- and unselfishly threw planty of blocks to allow his running backs to score most of the TDs.

only 2 of them are worth anything, Indiegogo and Kickstarter. As for the risk potential, it hasn't really hit that speed bump yet with people thinking that they are pre-ordering stuff instead of donating money with a possibility of maybe getting something down the line

Aaaaannnnndddddddd I'm out!
I'm tired, alcoholated thoroughly and have a doctor's appointment in the morning to see how they intend on slicing and dicing my leg.
Gooooooooooooooood night, ONT!

Same thing with that link above. The guy says he's going to donate the proceeds to charity, but he does not seem locked into a specific one. How do you know he'll follow through?
Posted by: Y-not at June 22, 2012 01:00 AM (5H6zj)
charity stuff is more gray but that sector polices its self nicely. As for other stuff, it's a straight deposit to the person/company's account

Yeah, that's worked out so well for Rumer Willis. What matter isn't just that Kim Basinger's her mom but the genetics favored that, too. Imagine if, like the aforementioned Rumer Willis, she took after Dad. (considering the chin you'd think she was Jay Leno's kid.) Or consider the unfortunate daughter of Meat Loaf. (The hot other one is his step-daughter and not related by blood.)
Without the goods the novelty value of the famous parents fades fast.

"Dark" isn't automatically serious and deep. Sometimes, most times, it's just juvenile fapping, pretending at gravitas.

That was the whole selling point for many on the left...skin color is a substitute credential, and it's much easier for them to dismiss anybody in disagreement as a racist. No thinking involved. Their obsession with race and their overwhelming media presence makes groupthink much easier. But those days are numbered, judging from what's been happening in the last month or so.

"Indeed you can usually tell when the concepts of democracy and citizenship are weakening. There is an increase in the role of charity and in the worship of volunteerism. These represent the élite citizen's imitation of noblesse oblige; that is, of pretending to be aristocrats or oligarchs, as opposed to being citizens." —John Ralston Saul

In which he states, this gun-walking program is using the same "tactics" as one during the Bush administration.
In other words, they'd have us believe, "Operation Fast and Furious" is nothing more than an extension of "Operation Wide Receiver."
When the fact of the matter is, Wide Receiver ended in 2007, has very little in common with Fast and Furious, and no one died.
That fact needs to be pointed out, over, and over, and over again, until it becomes inescapable.
