Dearborn MI: Still De Facto Sharia-compliant

Sure you still have freedom of religion and speech in Dearborn but just don't try and actually use them there.

Now I'm no a fan of public evangelizing - especially involving a megaphone - but it is Constitutionally-protected speech. But don't go looking for the Dearborn police department to protect your First Amendment rights - to the contrary they will roust and arrest you if your free speech upsets the Muslim locals.

The exact same thing happened two years ago in Dearborn and it cost the city $100,000 in damages but I guess they learn slow.

Meanwhile on the positive side for the morons scientists have now proven that two glasses of wine a day 'makes your life better'

Drinking a couple of glasses of wine each day improves your quality of life, researchers say.

They found that those who drink in moderation had better scores in an index that measures factors including dexterity, emotion, mobility and the ability to understand than those who abstained completely.

U.S. researchers from the Boston University School of Medicine studied 5,404 people at the age of 50, and continued to observe them over a follow-up period.

...They found that these regular moderate drinkers - those who consumed no more than 14 drinks a week and no more than three a day for women and four a day for men - scored highest in each section of the Health Utilities Index.

The Miracle of Anodized Aluminum

You never think about it but the colored anodized aluminum case of say an iPod is a pretty amazing application of chemistry.

The Most Surprising Thing About the US To Foreigners

Well I remember friends from Ireland being amazed at the large sizes of mayonnaise and mustard jars and how cheap gas was. But often the biggest surprise is that the US isn't really the country depicted in movies and TV.

Many Indians are very surprised to find out that there are large numbers of Americans who actually love their parents and siblings and wives and children and have normal, healthy relationships with them. Our media has them convinced that all Americans are very self-centered people who throw their kids out of their homes after high school, don't care for their parents, and divorce their spouses. And, I swear, it is literally true that many Indians do not believe that this is not true until they have been to the US and seen examples of good healthy family relationships themselves. I have had heated arguments with people who've never been to the US, but can give lectures on how screwed up family values in the US are.

Business Lessons From a Mexican Drug Cartel

There are bold drug lords and there are old drug lords - and El Chapo, the head of the Sinaloa cartel, is now 55 years old and the CEO of what may be the largest commercial operation on Earth.

"Chapo always talks about the drug business, wherever he is," one erstwhile confidant told a jury several years ago, describing a driven, even obsessive entrepreneur with a proclivity for micromanagement. From the remote mountain redoubt where he is believed to be hiding, surrounded at all times by a battery of gunmen, Chapo oversees a logistical network that is as sophisticated, in some ways, as that of Amazon or U.P.S. -- doubly sophisticated, when you think about it, because traffickers must move both their product and their profits in secret, and constantly maneuver to avoid death or arrest. As a mirror image of a legal commodities business, the Sinaloa cartel brings to mind that old line about Ginger Rogers doing all the same moves as Fred Astaire, only backward and in heels. In its longevity, profitability and scope, it might be the most successful criminal enterprise in history.

The Five Best Plane Crashes In Cinema

If you're flying anytime soon, you don't want to watch these videos.

The crash scene in Castaway is good but I think the scariest of all is the plane crash into the Andes in the movie, Alive. Mostly because the movie version is pretty much exactly what happened in real life and was just the beginning of their ordeal.

Finally: The John Deere Robo-Mower

Forget flying cars - this is what I've been waiting for:

The TANGO E5 will not only mow your lawn without you having to move off your garden lounge, but it will do so at times when you'd rather be indoors. This is because the unit boasts all weather capability which allows it scythe its way through your overgrown greenery no matter how persistent the precipitation.

...The E5 is able to stay away from sensitive areas within its mowing boundary by letting you program in garden beds or other features that you'd rather be left untouched.

The mower is also designed to be truly a "set and forget" device, as it will sense that its battery is running low and return to a charging station to rejuvenate. Once the E5 has fully recharged (which takes around 90 minutes) it will automatically return to the task at hand and resume your mowing schedule.

The E5 can also be pre-programmed to mow on a regular basis, whether you are around or not.

Report: Madonna Has a Special DNA Cleanup Crew

Because the last thing you want as a celebrity are unauthorized Chinese clones of you running around and undercutting your business.

MADONNA reportedly has a "sterilisation team" tasked with wiping away traces of the Material Girl so fans can't steal her DNA.

The music legend apparently orders workers to complete an extreme clean of all her dressing rooms on tour so that any hair, skin or saliva belonging to the 53-year-old cannot be captured.

Concert promoter Alvaro Ramos, who is overseeing the Portuguese leg of Madonna's MDNA tour, told Britain's Daily Mirror: "We have to take extreme care, like I have never seen for any other artist.

"We cannot even look at the dressing room after it is ready, or even open the door."

He added: "We can only enter after her sterilisation team has left the room. There will not be any of Madonna's DNA, any hair or anything. They will clean up everything. In the end, it is all to protect her and make her feel comfortable."

The Most Surprising Thing About the US To Foreigners

Didn't you post one of these before?  It had a much longer section of things people from other countries were surprised about.  It included the prescription drug commercials on tv, the views on customer service at restaurants, and my personal favorite the height of the gap on restroom stall doors.  That was one a british friend of mine noticed when she got to visit the US and made her uncomfortable.

Although Dick Cheney was praised by the other survivors for his courage, he was also strongly criticized, as he had eaten "all the tasty-looking passengers" during the plane's pre-flight checklist."

Well, that first cocktail waitress who came forward and said, "That was me! I rode the Tiger!" had also had sex with A-Rod, who'd had sex with... Madonna.

98 Funny thing about Islam -- there don't seem to be too many strictures on general behavior. If the shoe were on the other foot, and it was Christian Day at the state fair, I have to believe that if a handful of Muslims held up signs that quoted the Quran, folks nearby might approach them to try to change their minds, or ignore them entirely. But go into full f-bomb mob mentality mode and threaten them with serious physical harm? I just don't see it.

Its rated for roughly 12,000 square feet max and even then I doubt it does it in one charge. So you'd need about 4 of them for an acre.

No, you'r getting it backwards.  Political Islam was invented centuries before the political ideas of communism or facism were formalized (although there were practical examples in certain autocratic governments before that time).

Islam has always been religious facism.  Before there was Mussolini and Hitler dreaming up ways to scourge the unbelievers and impure from their body politic, Islam had been doing it for centuries.

It is hermetically sealed from reform.  The presence of large communities of Islamic believers in the United States is the equivalent of pockets of pre-cancerous lesions found in your body.  Pretty soon, it will metastacise and kill you.

But that is a pretty un-PC thing to say. And as the years after Sept 2001  lengthen and people begin to forget again, the cancer will be just under the surface.

Probably not. Maybe that one's got the same reasoning as the Euro project. Everyone's terrified that the Germans will turn into Nazis again, so there's this desire to emasculate them, corral them, suppress their national identity, anything. It seems pretty silly, but the Europeans do seem to get into trouble from time to time. And one night I was staying in a little room above a bar in Germany, and heard the sounds of vigorous German singing at 2:00 AM, and got just a bit of a chill....

292 Have you ever heard anything more about Che boy and his cohorts. I hope you and Hummingbird are still an item. Not much news on the Cheboy front, I don't ask the girl that knows them for information. Since I am her supervisor at work I don't want to put her in an uncomfortable situation where she might feel like she is being asked to spy on her friends. So if she offers info I listen, but I don't go out of my way to ask. Last I heard Cheboy was still living at home and still trying to find another job, in this economy that's most likely going to be a serious uphill battle. I think the last time she mentioned it was about a week ago so I doubt there is any change in that status. As for Hummingbird, yup, she's sitting on the world's ugliest but most comfortable couch even as we speak. Too hot out there still to be on the back porch this evening. Not sure why but she's still putting up with me - not that I'm complaining. I just hope she doesn't come to her senses any time soon.. lol

294 Fucking Dearborn, my childhood home. Used to be this shit was confined to the east side of the city -- which is essentially it's own city due to geographic  reasons (and was, in fact, a separate and distinct city from the west side known as Fordson before deciding to merge with its western neighbor Dearborn in fear that Detroit would eventually gobble them up). It's spreading westward, though, as I hear more and more incidents of Arabs/Muslims starting shit at my HS alma mater, Edsel Ford.

And everybody just capitulates for fear of pissing them off. The Arab-American festivals used to be innocuous ethnic festivals, no different than the Polish-American festivals they hold (or used to hold) in downtown Detroit. Not any more, though, and the Dearborn Police might as well be the French Police in Paris for all they do to punish Muslim offenders.

Wickard was a case from the 1930s where the Court ruled that a farmer growing wheat on his own property counted as interstate commerce and could be regulated even though he had no intention to sell it. It expanded the commerce clause to a ridiculous degree and remains one of the worst cases ever decided by the court.

Posted by: AltonJackson at June 27, 2012 08:32 PM (JMmQ9)

368 >>>Wickard OK Nube here's the short. Guy grows wheat on farm, guy eats wheat on farm. Government comes in with DOA to regulate. Guy claimbs he's not participating in any form of commerce whatsoever so DOA regs don't apply. SCOTUS rules that because he grew the wheat he would otherwise buy that effects commerce of wheat, which effects interstate commerce of wheat therefore big brother gets his way under the interstate commerce clause.

Posted by: Polliwogette, Teahada hobbit at June 28, 2012 12:30 AM (Qe7jo)

Libs are always talking about how America became glorious using their rules.....which is a big, fat, ugly lie. Wickard -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wickard_v._Filburn -- is a 1942 court case that allowed the foxes into the henhouse. Before that, Congress couldn't regulate commerce that didn't cross a border -- national, state, or Indian reservation. 1942. Not 1776.

Posted by: cthulhu at June 27, 2012 08:33 PM (kaalw)

370 What is Wickard? It's the bullshit decision fdr bullied scotus into issuing that hijacked the commerce clause into meaning the federal government could stick their nose wherever. They held that a farmer keeping his own wheat instead of selling it affected interstate commerce.

372 Okay. Here's your chance to go at it with a real jackass. Jose Canseco on twitter going on about how, someday, people will recognize all he's done for baseball.

Posted by: Niedermeyer's Dead Horse at June 27, 2012 08:34 PM (piMMO)

373 I like what somebody said on Twitter today. If the decision goes the way I hope it will, somebody wrote that they hoped to be the one standing next to Biden to be able to whisper in his ear "Now THIS is a big f*ckin' deal!" Rotfl.. that's classic. My biggest worry is that they'll play the whole "keep this part and this part but not this part" game and we'll end up with even more of a convoluted, unintelligible mess than we have now.

Posted by: StuckOnStupid at June 27, 2012 08:35 PM (R5yLq)

374 Wickard was also basically reaffirmed in the 1990s in the Raich case involving medical marijuana. It is a very strange case to read.

393 Much of the stuff the left views as sacred is of relatively recent vintage. Social Security didn't exist before 1935 (about the same age as my parents); Medicare didn't exist before 1965 (it's younger than I am); income tax needed a Constitutional amendment to be legal, and only got one in 1913 -- well over half the glorious history of the US didn't have income tax at all.

403 So after reading Wickard, I followed up reading the Lopez decision - specifically the dissent.

The left truly believes there are no restrictions on what the federal government can do.

The short of it - a guy was arrested for having a gun at a school in violation of a *federal* edict banning guns at schools.

The government argued that since crime affects commerce, it gives congress the right to legislate *anything* if they argue it might reduce crime under the commerce clause.

These people are insane.

So, I've got to share this with you guys -- I get this nifty new router, but I want to configure it so that most of my house doesn't see too big a change. To make this easier, I need to see the configuration screens for the old and new routers side-by-side....little pieces are in different places, and all that. Plus, my old linksys wireless-G router was flashed to dd-wrt and ended up quite sophisticated.

I figure I'll just "daisy-chain" the routers -- if the new router is plugged into an old router port, it'll get "192.168.1.115" and the new router will distribute this to "its" network as "192.168.1.101". If you're on the new net, the new router is "192.168.1.1" and if you're on the old net, the old router is "192.168.1.1". Munge 'em 'til they're the same, unplug old box, plug-in new box, voila!

Turns out, the new router is a "smart router" -- if its default IP is taken on the net it's plugged into, it goes with four RANDOM numbers. And not in a way that you can recognize a router (e.g. -- RND.RND.1.1)......noooooo.....it's "RND.RND.RND.RND".

So your first device after the new router comes up is "RND.RND.RND.RND+1". I'm sure that seemed brilliant to somebody, but I rebooted and.....lost the freakin' router. **poof** Ended up on the Cisco support line to find it -- the explanation took 20x the time that the solution did -- it's a really easy solution.

452 Every time I hear John Lewis being called a "respected" civil rights leader I want to scream, because of his lies when OCare was passed that the protesters, Tea Partiers, yelled racial epithets at him and the others he was walking with, something for which no one has produced any evidence among all the videos that were taken that day.

He and all of the other race hustlers can go to hell.

464 My view is this: If Mr. Groening does not want my business that is just fine and dandy. Watching shows that spew contempt at your core beliefs seems masochistic. If enough people tune out, they will eventually get the message or go out of business. This is why CNN's ratings have crashed. Go to CNN everyday for a week and just read the headlines list and the front page story title and you will see 2-3 stories at any given time that is anti-Republican, anti-American, and/or anti traditional Christian. Their pieces on religion are always: "Let's talk about some fringe liberal Christian church that supports gay marriage to pretend there is a sharp disagreement among Christians" or some such shit. Most of their front page "stories" are explicitly opinion pieces or photo-essays like "The faces of the poor Illegal immigrants"

I live and work in Dearborn.   For the most part, if you go about your business NOBODY will bother you.  In my opinion the Christians at the Arab Festival in Dearborn were provocative.  Case in point,  the movie "Die Hard with a Vengeance" starring Bruce Willis and Samuel Jackson.   Police officer Lt. John McClane (Bruce Willis) goes to Harlem, wearing a sandwich board that says "I hate N******".   Harlem shop owner Zeus Carver (Samuel L. Jackson) spots McClane and tries to get him off the street before he is killed, but a gang of black youths attack the pair, who barely escape.   This is also an example of Free Speech.  It is also batshit crazy to attempt.  Were the Christians holding signs that said "I hate Muslims"?   I do not believe they were.  But to the local population it was just as inflammatory.  That being said.  Will all this end well?  Of course not.  The bible tells us that much.  It actually gets worse.

And, BTW, I need to sell my old hot-rodded 802.11g router and RF range-extender amp, if anyone's interested. I'm looking for shipping cost + almost anything. dd-wrt can do some weird stuff (bridge between other routers, block MAC addresses, QoS....) that is typical only on higher-end units.

544 The list of things that the Feds are specifically allowed to do is quite short -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enumerated_powers -- less than 20, if grouped by subject.

If laid out clause-by-clause, it's still a reasonably short list (though arguments over clauses obscure the exact number).

We could once again tap into the living force that took us from prison colonies in 1776 to the pre-eminent world power in 1918 if we returned to out Constitutional roots.

I was gonna stay away this night,

In about 9 hours, give or take, a very important sea change will take place.

Most of you M (AND) M's already dialed in know what the SCOTUS hands down after the clock strikes will make or break alot of what this upcoming election cycle is all about. Tough to be us right? I like my America. I am saddened by my son's struggles to re-connect with my America after 5 combat tours with the USMC. I do what I can and pray the VA won't kick him to the curb too soon. So far, they seem to be doing a good job helping him. What is most concerning to me is that their are still people that truely think the pouser-in chief is the man for another term. I am not suprised by this given the fact that the whole of the MSM...save Fox...are nothing more than "Super-Pacs!"slaved to carry the water bucket for their "Community Organizer...til the bitter end.

I'm hoping for "BITTER" come November.

Really really fkn pissed right now.  Those cops are quislings.

622 On the one hand, the so-called Christians were at the Dearborn festival for the express purpose of being kicked out so that they can sue the city (again). Not very Christian behavior on their part and not very smart of the city to fall for it (again). On the other hand, quite predictably, the Muslims behaved consistent with their well earned stereotype. On the gripping hand, if the Nazis paraded at the Polish festival in nearby Hamtramk, I would expect about the same results.
