More Lawyer Crazy: Carreon vs The Oatmeal Update

When last we checked in attorney Charles Carreon was suing Matt Inman, the National Wildlife Federation and the American Cancer Society. Now he's trying to get a temporary restraining order against IndieGoGo, the company that handles donations to the two charities, to keep them from disbursing funds.

But there's a method to Carreon's crazy- since *he* also donated to Inman's fund, if the disbursement is stopped, then he has some kind of standing sue Inman for fraud.

Oh and Carreon's wife seems like just as pleasant a person as her husband.

Weird Americans in Music

Sure Frank Zappa and Sun Ra are on the list but Screamin Jay Hawkins deserves more fame for being so out there back in the 50's. How this song got made according to SJH:

"I wanted this to be a bluesy love song, but my manager brought chicken, ribs,? and whiskey to the recording session. We all got drunk and came out with this weird, spooky version. I dont even remember recording the song."

33 An Unlucky Number for Tom Cruise

It looks like Tom Cruise's unlucky number is 33 - as all three of his ex-wives called it quits when they reached that very same age.

Mimi Rogers, Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes were all in their early thirties when their marriages to the Hollywood leading man took a turn for the worse.

Fans of the heartbroken star searched for a meaning, some postulating that the number 33 is related somehow to Mr Cruise's religion, Scientology.

Well clearly next time Tom needs to marry a younger Scientologist babe.

Plus here is a TomKat timeline - I didn't realize that when Tom was jumping on Oprah's couch, he had only known Katie for less than 6 weeks. Who does that?

Or that he created a fake movie just so he could meet the hottest young actresses in Hollywood. Okay that last part is genius/creepy depending on how well it works.

Plus Tom really, really believes in this scientology stuff.

As for the Tom's wives thing, I think it has to do with a desire to get out of the marriage, which is probably made more desperate when tied to the biological/maternal clock. Mimi Rogers had at least two kids after her divorce and Nicole Kidman has had two (one by surrogate). I'm sure Katie would like more kids, so why hang out longer into her 30s?

I know I haven't been ONTing lately, but I must gripe, and you guys are easy. My 26 year old niece lives in NYC and her roommates are moving out. Instead of getting a new roommate or finding a different place that she can afford on her own, she has decided to rent the extra room out on Craigslist on a nightly basis to travelers. Apparently everyone is doing it.

Her mom can't directly tell her it is a very bad idea, so she's tried to explain that people will expect clean sheets and towels (and my niece has to schlep the laundry a few blocks to a laundromat) plus a clean bathroom. But, my niece won't be deterred.

I think she is batshit crazy and asking for a starring role in a Lifetime Television for Women movie or an ID documentary.

Of course, perhaps if she hadn't gone to an overpriced college several thousand miles from home and then decided to live in NYC while making almost nothing, and then decided to get a masters degree and take out even more student loan debt, her loan repayments wouldn't be $900 a month and the salary she is now making at her entry level job would cover her expenses.

114 Good piece by Bryan Preston at PJM about Roberts. Here's the last paragraph. Anyone who paid any attention at all could see that the likes of Bob Beckel and Alan Colmes would defend President Obama and his health care law no matter what. They did not even bother to read it before supporting it. The same was always true for the editorial pages at the New York Times and the Washington Post. They never cared what the Affordable Care Act meant for our constitutional republic or what it would actually do to the economy. Democrats supported it because it empowered government and shifted American politics seismically to the left. Democrats supported ObamaCare because it was their bill and did what they wanted. But the chief justice, apparently, did not see this. He paid attention to the political election year criticisms of his court, and he caved. If that is the truth, then John Roberts lacks the intestinal fortitude of the average conservative soccer mom who gets slammed with liberals and liberalism by the local loudmouth at the kids’ practice and stands her ground. He lacks the political judgement of the average conservative county commissioner who manages to resist everyday moonbattery at the local level. If it’s true that Roberts buckled to media pressure, then he will bend in the direction of the loudest mouths and will do very great damage to the Constitution in the coming years. It’s one thing to see a formerly conservative justice “grow” in office as his jurisprudential instincts get tugged left. It’s frustrating, but feels like less of a sucker punch. If Roberts buckled to such obvious political bluster as was thrown at him in this case, then Chief Justice John Roberts is a chicken and a coward. He will spend decades on the court treating what’s left of American liberty to a thousand deaths. We may as well dub him “Brave Sir Robin” and get used to the idea of a Quisling on the court controlled by the most vicious liberal mouths and the monolithic leftist bloc on the court itself. We might as well admit that James Carville and David Axelrod have the “conservative” chief justice on their leash and can make him roll over with a voice command.

Heating and Cooling are going to be more expensive thanks to the wizards in this administration.  FWIW, I had dual American Standard units installed and was very pleased with them (two zone system and both quiet and efficient).  10 to 13 k$ sounds like it is in the zone, depending on the size of the house and the climate.  My installer said going for the highest SEER rating was not worth the extra $$, even though it probably cost him some money to sell me the cheaper units.

Any reasonable amount of nookie is good.  Don't be a monk.  None of us is going to live forever,

One of the things you get from endurance training is the ability of the body to perform the ATP shunt, meaning it can more  quickly release cellular enegy from stored sugar (adenine triphosphate - ATP) in conditioned cells (such as those in muscles).  This creates the "burn" that you feel due to the build up of lactic acid (by product of the  shunt).  Conditioning for endurance allows your body to do more of that more efficiently and faster.

183 I've been looking at a lot of sites and videos of "pro touring" cars lately.

Pro Touring is taking an old car and fitting it with new technology and features

For instance, take a 66 GTO and fit it with the LS2 engine, fully independent suspension, ABS, 18 to 20 inch wheels, new interior, gauges, ECM, you get the idea

Posted by: Y-not at July 02, 2012 10:19 PM (5H6zj)

If you have to replace it anyway, you may want to think about relocating it at the same time. We had to redo our roof, and moved the furnace into the attic at the same time so that we wouldn't be punching holes in a brand-new roof when we moved stuff around later. Got a whole new closet! And it's safer, more efficient, quieter, etc.

One thing to note -- you can easily get totally confused by all the brands out there....but they're all made by about 4 manufacturers. York, Coleman, and Luxaire are all made by Johnson Controls. Trane and American Standard are the same.

291 Well, we may have to replace our HVAC, particularly the furnace but also probably the blower and maybe the A/C. First quote is very expensive (~$13k).

Unless there's something you aren't describing, that seems high.

Gas hot air furnaces are CHEAP, gas boilers a little less cheap, but still not that bad.  Oil fired boilers a bit more expensive.

The parts for a complete 5-ton A/C swap of compressor and air handler should run ~$3,500 unless you need special gear like for right on salt water.  They'll have to switch to a R410 unit when yanking an older R22, and that will probably mean a repiping because R410 is completely incompatible with R22 and any residue left in the lines can cause havoc.

"Life by the Drop" makes me want to go buy a 12-string, and also stay away from one at the same time.  There's no damned way I could do justice to that, and the next step is realizing that I could spend the rest of my life trying to own the 12 like Roger McGuinn or Leo Kottke and know I'd just die trying.

352 The students at Purdue were pretty conservative. Certainly more conservative than most of the faculty. The problem with most students now-a-days is that they are not there in college to learn. This even applies to science majors. I was teaching analytical chemistry lab to students who were about to graduate. Two girls turned in an answer to an experiement where you were supposed to determine the percentage of one compound in a mixture. Their answer was that it was above 100%! They asked me to go over it because they were not sure the computer program they used to calculate the answer was working properly. I looked at their raw data and saw that their results in their lab notebooks indicated they had "over 100%." I tried to explain to them that the problem was not with the program, but with their bad data. I tried to get them to do a quick calculation on the whiteboard, but they had no idea how to do it, and couldn't even do basic arithmatic without a calculator! I offered them my HP-15c (greatest calculator ever), which uses Reverse Polish Notation only (no "=" sign on there at all), and they started to complain! Most students don't care about learning in college. They see it as a chance to "find themselves" and "have a good time." And this was coming from people who were applying to medical and dental schools! They said they'd start leaning once they got into those. When I asked them why they wanted to become doctors and dentists, they explained that it was prestigious and paid well. We are all doomed...

382 Tonight's special on Lifetime Movies is [Stolen Pallor[/i], the gripping true life story of a woman reclaiming her Cherokee heritage against all odds.

Liz Warren has mutated DNA that has hidden her heritage, making her look just like a paleface. But her heart is all Cherokee, as she proves by ripping sacred Indian recipes from it in a trance one night. Using the mystic Two Chickens Fucking ritual, she is able to create a unique booklet called Pow Wow Cookbook. Try her Oklahoma crabcakes; they are a land crab lover's delight.

Trying to join a Cherokee campus group, she fails because she gets a mental message from The Coyote that she wouldn't be welcome. Torn, she immerses herself in tribal lore and wears a dreamcatcher in her, eh, holiest of holies for many years to compensate.

Back in the day....

Street kids,(me long past neighbors from youth) with a pyro sense and the will to use it, (sorry Jim to rat ya out at this late date) filled plastic garbage bags with acetelene from Jim's Dad's garage welding tanks. A 50+ ft kite string tied to the bag O' gas was drawn by hand up to a burning birthday candle set in the middle of the street usually around 10 p.m or so. The plastic melted and...."BOOM!!!!" We lived up in the Foothills of La Crescenta and the blast reverberated off the mountains and set every dog to fits for a 3 mile radius!

We later added pure sulphur to the bag which created a photo-flash yellow-blue fireball!

AHhhhhh.....youth!

The difference between libs and conservatives, in a nutshell. Cons -- "that sucks big time. I should do what I can to reduce suffering, even if it's ugly. I'll put it out of its misery." Libs -- "that sucks big time. I should do what I can to validate my feelings, like give life support to the squirrel and prolong its suffering -- except I should first call my yoga instructor so as to have the proper chi."

Bob, thanks for the link. Yeah, Sowell nailed it:

"Those whom he betrayed in a moment of intellectual inspiration and moral forgetfulness were hundreds of millions of Americans, past, present, and future: whole generations in the past who have fought and died for a freedom that he has put in jeopardy; 300 million Americans today whose lives are to be regimented by Washington bureaucrats; and generations yet unborn who may never know the individual freedoms that their ancestors took for granted."

I haven't had a good night's sleep since last Wednesday, thinking about it.  (And that ahole is probably sleeping like a baby in Malta.) Tomorrow night, we're having the fireworks here in Milwaukee and I'm having a lot of people over to watch them from my roof (a great place to watch fireworks from.) 461 So, on the Roberts thing......I scratched out a little thing at tepid waftings and.....since we need 200 more comments.....

"My pet theory is that the court was asked by the states to look into the individual mandate and the Medicare expansion. Much was made of challenges over the Commerce Clause and there were split Circuits over that issue. Five justices appropriately decided that it was, in fact, justifiable to overturn the individual mandate on those grounds.

But in reading the 2695 other pages in Obamacare, Roberts had noticed that there was much worse riddled all through the thing. Since its drafters were going “not a tax, not a tax, not a tax” and “Commerce Clause, Commerce Clause, Commerce Clause” while they were putting it together, they had left it vulnerable to a whole host of challenges which never need rise to SCOTUS again. In the meantime, he’s getting personal speeches and daily op-eds and pressure up the yin-yang to uphold the law — which must surely be annoying.

So he talks to the other non-CC justices about a plan where “we’ll uphold it as a tax, and the thing’ll go up in flames as somebody else’s problem.” The other justices are appalled — when a court could bring clarity, to deliberately introduce confusion? when the law is clearly an overreach, to signal that such overreach is not the problem? when the public image of the court could be enhanced, to drag it through this mud? People could get killed while this thing self-destructs! Do you want that blood on our hands? But Roberts is adamant — he won’t be the one that gives the Administration an easy out — he’s going to let the SCoaMF-in-chief own this Screwed-up CoaMF.

Accounts for the last-minute switch, the annoyed justices, the confusionÂ…..and it remains a betrayal, though not in the sense generally supposed."

I've personally decided to take the pessimist's view.  Roberts' decision is fascist dogshit until the first lower courts start using the commerce clause stuff as precedent to start dismantling various and sundry Federal programs, regulations and laws.  When that happens, great, but I'm not going to hold out hope.

482 When each of the four lib Justices did their swearing in vows to uphold and defend the US Constitution, everyone from both sides knew it was just mouth platitudes. No one expected them to have actual, like, principles. It was just part of the game. All knew that would fall to the feet of the ObamaKing and swear fealty to him through thick and thin.

Fine, I could easily accept that, though it blows chunks. Predictibility has a certain value of its own. But I thought we had 5 Justices that took their oath seriously. That the oath MEANT something.

So I take a small hard core of content away from this shit; that Roberts sold out his very soul for a few magic beans. Enjoy the inevitable gas attacks those beans will bring ti your colon, Roberts.

They can buy some weapons or be forced to pay a ...tax...penalty...that will be used to subsidize police departments around the country and to pay for low income Americans to receive their weapons training.

And, hey, militia needs to be in preparation for...fucking...SOMETHING I don't know what.

I have a great story from the World Series of 1982 - but there is no way I can tell it online.

Gorman Thomas, a great homerun hitter from that era, owned a bar in a blue collar neighborhood in Milwaukee.  Ryan Braun has a chi-chi restaurant here today, but it's a classy joint, unlike Gorman's beer and a shot joint in 1982.  My girlfriends and I went there a couple of times and had fun but we never met any "Harvey's Wallbangers" (as that homerun hitting team was known.)  Probably a good thing, as they were known to be notable sluts.

It would have been '82.  That was the year the red birds beat my beloved Brewers in game 7. *Sob*

Christ knows when the Brewers will make it to another WS.  I was delighted to see them make it to the playoffs last year, only to be defeated by *sob* the Cards.  At least, I can console myself with the thought that they lost to the best team in baseball last year.
