I've already thought about these questions in general (not specifically about Romney) long and hard. My answer is that no, it doesn't matter. Good is good, and we are human beings whose motives are never pure.
So I don't much care about your secret motives for doing good. I don't much care if you want accolades for your good deeds and even if you receive them. I don't care if you perform good works because you think it will get you into heaven, or that it will make your girlfriend like you better, or if you feel compelled to do good because you feel guilty if you don't.
In the end it's behavior that matters.

Romney's response to the Cairo tweet was correct. It was timely. It was not a mistake. It was clearly devastating, given the immediate attack it produced.
It was also effective because it forces people to evaluate Romney against Obama in this context, instead of allowing last week to be the Obama show. If he hadn't made the statement, he would have been ignored for a week, exactly like Obama and the MSM wanted.
Much like Mediscare, this didn't work out like they expected. The people claiming this "hurt Romney" are the people who are wish him the most harm. They don't offer an objective opinion.

This is like the Ohio poll they put out at the request of Obama almost two weeks ago. Ohio +5 for Obama, but once you reweight the sample it is Romney +3.

Obviously, being informed conservatives, I'm sure you're all aware that militarily it was actually a failure, but from a media standpoint, it was fantastic. It was a turning point in the public concluding it was hopeless.
Libya is the one country that was part of the Arab Spring that had a secular government win. Gaddafi had a pseudo-religious cult built around him and living under it left the populace more antagonistic to religious government than they have been elsewhere.
So, having not won the election and looking for another way to get in power, this is how the Islamist fundamentalists can do it. They want the American public pissed at Libya. They want the America to stop helping Libya's government, so they can come into power. Obviously, there's a lot to be angry at, but as far as judging the country, that election means more than an Al Qaeda hit or even the protests.
Now, obviously there are other places that are part of the Arab Spring that are much more extremist. All polls I've seen of the Egyptian populace show them as being pretty fundamentalist.
The hit happened in Libya, not Egypt and not Tunisia, for a reason, though. Don't fall for it.

Well, that was it for me: I finally fell apart. She just fell into my arms and we both began sobbing for several minutes.
For once she had to comfort me and get me back on my feet. Sometimes I just think it's too much, but seeing the strength in my young daughter's voice helped me to get through.

I'm gonna have to dissagree on the whole "it wasn't the video" defence by conservatives. It WAS the video, which it is why it is so aggregious. The sheer and utter trifling lameness of it speakes volumes. The problem with WoW's new expansion isn't the pandas. I don't have a problem with that. I don't even really mind the vanity pet cockfighting ring, although I do think it's very, very dumb.
The real problem, IMO, is the talent tree overhaul. Every character will lose two out of every three of his current bread-and-butter skills under this shitty, shitty new system. Sure, things will probably be tweaked a bit to let characters continue to be effective... but they won't be as fun to play.

True story. I usually got off work an hour or so before the wifey, so I did the pickup from daycare routine. So I pick up the two rugrats, and the puke started flying before I could get them in the house. Both of them, repeatedly. Me too once. So I corral them in the dining room where there was no carpet, do a bit of gag mopping, and call the wife. "Are you going to be home on time? Cuz I'm dying here. If you don't hurry, there will be puke for three awaiting you."
Women seem to have more of an immunity from puke than a man in my humble experience.

How about some numbers for a start: tell us the annual expenditures to maintain such as system, as opposed to the annual net revenues from the oil we would get. You know, like the costs of hundreds of thousands of troops and the arms/materiel to maintain them, etc.

Actually, the better argument is that they shook hands on a deal, the West moved in and did the heavy lifting, then they expropriated the results. If the old deals were revisited and paid for -- based on the price of oil today after a subsequent 50 years of mismanagement and blackmail -- the resulting payments would wipe out any value accumulated in the countries involved.

Actually, there's a good practical reason to punish a host country for damages to embassies and ambassadors. Countries have a lot of things going on, and must prioritize where resources will be allocated. It's very easy for a government to put the security of ambassadors at somewhere between "clean toilets in the national parks" and "streetlights on country roads."
If having an embassy invaded and ambassador killed meant more than a diplomatic contretemps -- as in, carpet-bombing a major city, perhaps -- then the priorities would be clarified for future ambassadors. As it is, if I were on the US diplomatic staff in any predominately Muslim country, my notice would be in and I would in GTFO mode.

In the short term. But perhaps you've noticed the rapidly increasing costs of energy these last ten or fifteen years? Consumption in most of the rest of the world is outpacing production, especially in China, India, and Africa (which is drilling everywhere they can). Cheaper oil will fuel their industrialization. The Arabs will not go bust. They have PLENTY of other customers.

You could definitely argue that they owe SOMETHING, but I'm seeing that they ever sold all the rights to all their oil to anybody.

Yeah, what indeed? Speaking from a point of view the same as yours (sorta) a month ago, just keep going to the doctor. And I was underprescribed, which may be your case, also. I think Dr.s are trying not to prescribe too many antibiotics, because they are over-prescribed. But there's a huge difference between an imaginary flu that's really just a cold, and a staph or MRSA infection. You let that cold go for a while, it cures itself. Let that MRSA go... different outcome. I only got better after I went to the ER where they prescribed a way huger amount of antibiotics.
Credits to all the people on this thread who said almost the exact same thing to me 5 weeks ago.

My son forgot to put the lid back on the tub one day - yes, koi lives in a huge, clear plastic $10 Rubbermaid storage container, with pumps and gravel and plants and all the fixin's - and he flipped himself out. Have no idea how long he was on the carpet, but he was pretty dry to the touch when we found him. Threw him back in and he was fine. These bastards live forever, so I'm told. Its retarded cheap to make your own. I'm shocked more people don't do it. Smokers outlet has tobacco for $10 per 12oz bag, so that comes out to $40 for 3 lbs, so a tad over $13 a pound. They got tubes for $2 a box of 200. If it costs $1 per pack by the time you get done thats a lot. People are nuts spending $7-8 a pack

Thats the best part. Snow, rain, car don't start. whatever, you never need to leave the house for a pack of smokes, you always got a shitload. You're right about people not knowing about it. The crazier part is you tell them until you're blue in the face and they don't get it until they actually see you make one. I had a friend come up from florida, and I told him for 3 years to do this. I explained it to him every possible way. The tubes are done, filters and all, just add tobacco and pull the fucking lever. he still couldn't understand until he saw it, then it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. I can zip out a pack faster than it takes me to go to the store.

The Topomatic is what I use. It's the second injection machine I've bought, and compared to the first, it's built like a tank, and works great.
Someone mentioned the futility of explaining the roll your own method to other people....yeah. I have a friend who's paying 8 bucks a pack, and when I casually mention that I spend the same amount for a carton, he quickly changes the subject. He's moving to North Carolina soon...and he assures me that cigarettes there cost only ten dollars a carton. He'll soon have his rude awakening.
Another good tobacco is 'The Good Stuff', it's blended pipe/cigarette, and a six ounce bag costs between 5 and 6 dollars, and is enough for a carton. Adding in the cost of tubes at just under 2 dollars, and an entire carton costs me just under 8 dollars.
