The First 10 Minutes of Inglorious Basterds
In case you haven't seen any of the movie.
A safer grenade:
Israel has developed a hand grenade that is much less likely to explode when hit by a bullet. This was in response to an incident two years ago, when an Israeli army officer along with a nearby sergeant died when a Palestinian bullet hit and detonated a grenade the officer was carrying.
This had long been a risk when carrying grenades, but rarely was a grenade set off accidentally by a stray bullet, at least while the grenade was being carried by a soldier. But the Israeli Defense Forces Munitions Branch found that a small modification of the grenade design would make such accidental detonations almost impossible. The grenades still look, and operate the same way and all new ones will be manufactured with the new safety feature.
When our robot overlords decide humans need to be culled.

New Ad by Americans for Prosperity ran today during the NFL football games here in Central Florida.....it was great....hits Obama over Obamacare and uses lady from Canada that explains what happened to her under Canada's Government system like Obamacare. She would be dead if not for her husband bringing her to US for surgery....Canadians told her she had to wait months!! It was great ad....you would not realize until she goes along with her story....very compelling and hard hitting...she tells Americans need to get engaged over Obamacare....I am guessing it will be aired in swing states....but it was very very powerful and well done!

They sued Holder, for leaning on them, I thought. Either way, they've been way oversampling democrats this year. I know part of that is strategy (prevent the bandwagon effect if people see Obama slumping in the polls) and part of it is a delusion of how to properly model this election. Its just you can't trust it. I think they're way overestimating Democrat registration, let alone turnout.
I'm seeing zero signs for Obama here in Oregon, too. Might just be early but none whatsoever, anywhere. Some old faded Obama bumper stickers, but no Obama. No Romney either, for that matter.

I think a lot of that was the design. Originally the pull cord for the primer was danging out the bottom of the stick and it got hooked on stuff, never a good thing. I read a Vietnam book that said it could happen with the baseball grenades if people wore them wrong, catch on branches and so on (they called it "John Wayneing" the grenades). Sounded plausible, but I don't know for certain.

>>What's wrong with beans in chili?
Nothing, it actually makes a better chili, but Texans get all pissy about it.
Posted by: garrett at September 09, 2012 07:14 PM (ILsje)
People are always asking why our chili has no beans. The contemporary reason for chili contests with no beans is that in 1951, a chili prophet by the name of John Haddaway decided to improve the quality of chili in the world. He knew in his heart of hearts that good chili had no beans and so
he wrote and preached about this. From this beginning, thousands of chili cooks and a couple of international organizations with associated foolishness have arisen. As part of this, millions of dollars have been raised for charities through the vehicle of competitive chili cookoffs.
The development of these competitive cooking events involved designing standardized rules to ensure non-biased judging and perhaps more importantly, to eliminate the notions that there were opportunities for some to "cheat". Beans, by their appearance, by their variety and differences,
could allow some judges and promoters of events to select or de-select winners based on the
appearance of the chilies, i.e., I might know that this is or is not Fred's chili because it has or doesn't have kidney, pinto and or red beans in it. As a competitive corollary, beans make it easier to mask bitter tastes associated with chili powders and they also provide vastly different flavors.
A perhaps better reason for no beans in chili is that historically, prior to the 1900s, chili was made without beans. Speculations surrounding the origins of "true" chili are numerous, but soaking dry beans and then boiling them for several hours makes beans a difficult dish for a cattle drive. I
believe jerky or just plain beef and biscuits were the typical fare for such adventures. As
for jail houses, in the 1800s, I doubt that many served meat dishes to their guests.

How does the siesta work during wartime? Is it possible to declare war and call Mexi-Rules?
I think it would be nice to know that between lunch and dinner there would be about three hours where there was no incoming.

Parting comments for the night:
Max Cleland crippled himself in Viet Nam when he hopped off a chopper and inadvertantly pulled the pin on a grenade he was wearing. Blew off his legs. Tragic but actually kinda stupid.
Ohio elected a Republican governor in 2010 and a majority of Republicans in the state Senate and House in 2010. And now they are going to vote for Obama? You have no idea how UNPOPULAR Obama is in many parts of Ohio. When he "saved" GM in 2009, they closed down a lot of GM factories/Delphi factories, and auto dealerships (arbitrarily). And no one is seeing things get much better in some blue collar Democrat factory towns. He is not that popular.
Ohio's unemployement rate (official) is one percent lower than the national average, largely because of the policy changes since 2010 when Kasich and the Republicans were elected (balanced budget, no new taxes, better financial footing for the government).

One of the many problems with the Ohio poll from PPP is that they say it is composed of 54% women
to 46% men. In both 2010 and 2008 exit polls it was composed of 52% women to 48% men. They
also have Democrats making up 41% of the electorate, but even in 2008 Democrats
were ONLY 39% of the population. I do not believe that the population is
2% MORE Democrat than in 2008. This poll is oversampling Democrats by
several % points. At most this state is +2 D, but the state is not 41% Democrat. Even the Cook PVI has it at R+1 state. I don't see Obama winning here.

well yeah, any wife of the President will draw eyes on which designer made her dress. It's quite prestigious to have that honor and you make serious bank.
And the press and fashion industry has always wondered how much a dress cost from the nominee's wife no matter which party they are from (they did it with Michelle and Palin last election)

Why Kar98? I got a great deal on a shooter - e.g. Russian capture (electropencil marks) with US import marks, so low price because of the lower "collectibility" factor, with a bright, shiny bore, almost no throat erosions, and a perfect crown. I only own shooters, and this thing shoulders beautifully, points naturally to POI with perfect cheekweld (something you do not get from many other vintage bolt guns), and I've got plenty of brass-cased ammo and know a guy who has the dies. It's a piece of history I get to play with and turn money into noise with, and I got it on the cheap. 03 FFL for the win.

What they built over a century, the 20th to be precise, will take many years to tear down, but the mockery and ridicule you want, and which will be a key tool of their destruction, has already started. The right is starting to own new media (Big "thank you!" to St. Breitbart), has shown an ability to take over twitter hashtags, and is actively pushing stories the MSM won't cover, which eventually the MSM must pay attention to, such as Rep. Weiner's unfortunate tumescence (which Ace drove into the MSM). Much like the left had their long war through the institutions of education and government, conservatives will have to fight a long war through the media establishment. The first battles have already been fought, and their walls are cracking.

A website? You're on AoSHQ, the Breitbart "Big" sites get tons of hits, Matt Drudge actively uses mocking headlines for leftists, FrnakJ at IMAO.us and thepeoplescube.com only do mocking humor, Kevin Williamson and Jonah Goldberg at nationalreview.com often mix humor and sarcasm with serious analysis, as do Sonny Bunch, PJ O'Rourke, and Matt Labash at theweeklystandard.com - you're in a legitimate golden age of counter-programmed right-leaning media. Tucker Carlson's dailycaller.com does a decent job as well, if a bit heavy with HuffPo style ad garbage and one certaint columnist who, while funny, has pissed off some morons recently.

Hang on, I need to go look up "bad" in the dictionary, because that sentence does not compute. That sounds like a hell of a find, Ms. Puma, and a jewel in any milsurp collection. I hope it shoots as good as it looks. If you're genuinely worried about the stock, you can get a cheap drop-in replacement from the CMP and leave the original in the safe when you go to shoot it.

You either can't be satisfied with the present, are letting the perfect be the enemy of the good, or have other motives. As I noted in #314, this is not some instant turnkey project. Modern conservatism, along with a supportive media contingent, effectively ceased to exist between WWI and 1964, and did not take hold in any serious way until 1980, at which point the Reagan recovery later in his first term gave conservatives actual data to point at, as opposed to policy prescriptions which hadn't been tried or proven since Calvin Coolidge. Control of the House was never even in question until the takeover in 1994. This will not be a fast or easy process, but the seeds have been sown. The left has been exposed for who they are, and the messaging battle has been engaged.
*I failed to mention earlier the enormous success of conservative talk radio that began in the 80's, coupled with the repeated enormous failures of the left to counter those successes.*

I completely buy the argument that pedophiles are wired that way, since the cure/rehab rate is essentially zero.
What someone with those urges needs to understand is that there are social taboos. In this society, getting busy with kids is one of them. You can have all the pedophile thoughts you want as long as you don't act on them.
Act on them in THIS society, someone is going to go all Gen Charles Napier on your ass.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_James_Napier
Unlike the Indians, the Brits had a social taboo against burning wives alive after their husbands died. The General resolved the cultural taboo conflict handily:
"A story for which Napier is often noted involved Hindu priests complaining to him about the prohibition of Sati by British authorities. This was the custom of burning a widow alive on the funeral pyre of her husband. As first recounted by his brother William, he replied: "Be it so. This burning of widows is your custom; prepare the funeral pile. But my nation has also a custom. When men burn women alive we hang them, and confiscate all their property. My carpenters shall therefore erect gibbets on which to hang all concerned when the widow is consumed. Let us all act according to national customs." [4]"

I have a CZ 452. It's the best cheap bolt-action .22lr you'll ever lay hands on.
Regarding the question by teej, Ruger is now making hi-cap magazines (called the BX-25) for the 10/22 which have received very good reviews. It's a new company now that Bill died - he was a brilliant designer and engineer, but had some ideas about gun owners and magazine capacity that never made sense.

StPat, in each generation people who never serve feel guilt. Some take the route of claiming to have served - look at the Who's Who of the 1920s and how many claimed to be members of the Lafayette Escadrille for an example. Hint - far more claimed to have served than did.
The harder route is being a good honest person who never stole the laurels from the deserving and still made a difference, be it that one kid you tutored to finding a cure for Ebola.

Leftism has always been drawn to nihilism like a moth to a flame. It instills a certain frame of mind that is destructive but lends itself to humor. Humor, after all, is the cognitive function that allows us to laugh instead of collapse into emotional despair. Thus, the humor gap is nothing to envy, as it marks lives dedicated to emptiness. It is no more to be respected than someone with a remarkable capacity for drink who channels it into raging alcoholism.

Good night, Cooth, Hat, Epo, Jimbo, Irresolute, USMC, Dude.
Good ngith, Adriane. Sweet dreams of Ben Browder making you his famous five alarm chili. Without beans.

I only know one song about Monday. Jackson Browne. "I'm going to rent myself a house
In the shade of the freeway
I'm going to pack my lunch in the morning
And go to work each day
And when the evening rolls around
I'll go on home and lay my body down
And when the morning light comes streaming in
I'll get up and do it again
Amen
Say it again
Amen"
bless all here.

Did you see that speech Sandra gave? It was a landmark moment for a Woman's Right to kill her baby, and to be a self-indulgent whore.
And finally to really bring home the danger of the Republicans War on Women there was a special tribute to the deceased woman murderer Senator Edward Kennedy, followed by a speech by the alleged rapist, President Bill Clinton.

The BH and I have no children, and I've managed to mostly avoid changing diapers, but at one point about two decades ago I was changing the goddaughter's diaper.....as a collaborative effort. They'd given me their kid and a tremendous bag of stuff and sent me off to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and the kid and I assessed that it was time for a diaper change.
So I unpacked all this unfamiliar stuff and tried to arrange it logically, and went through it with her. I'd hold up a package, and say "....and now, this?" and she'd say, "no, the blue one." We probably rated only a 3 out of 10 for style as we fumbled through the process, but somehow we both survived.
I'm sure she doesn't remember that incident. But over the years we've had a very matter-of-fact relationship based on mutual respect and affection.......and it all goes back to where I figured she knew more about diaper-changing than I did.
