— Dave in Texas It ain't a full-blown throw down like they do in Taiwan, but oh boy is it good. A Republican minority in the state Senate outmaneuvers the Democrat majority with three Dems on a wire over their budget. A defection of three Democrats let the Republicans pass a budget that was largely written by Republicans, makes $722 million in cuts, and leaves a half-billion-dollar reserve.
Everybody Wang Chung tonight.*
The move came during a routine session on the Senate floor Friday afternoon and appeared to take the majority Democrats by surprise. State Sen. Don Benton, R-Vancouver, moved for the “9th Order of Business,” a procedural motion which allows a majority of members to vote to advance bills from a committee to the Senate floor. Republicans plucked an early version of the budget that had been submitted late last year by Gov. Christine Gregoire, as well as three Republican measures necessary to implement the budget that had been stalled in committee.
As the roll call was sounded and the three Democrats announced their votes, it was obvious the battle was over. But majority Democrats proposed delaying motions, including one that required Senate clerks to read the governorÂ’s entire 233-page budget bill in full.
“I want to know what’s in it,” demanded Senate Democratic Floor Leader Tracey Eide, D-Kent.
That was despite the fact that the governorÂ’s bill had been released during the month of December, was widely publicized at the time, and was certain to be discarded the moment the Republican budget amendment was proposed.
Be sure to read the part called "Dems Say the Darndest Things". It's delicious.

It was a beautiful, beautiful moment. After 30 years of solid D rule in this state, it's nice to see the R's grow a backbone and shove it right up the majority's rear end.

From the top down, the Democratic party has decided it will not take responsibility for hard decisions and if that means allowing the GOP to win one, so be it.

Just read that Florida passed a no-sharia law 92-24 by their House. It is before the Senate now.
Forty bills are being voted on in 24 states.
I like what this guy says:
There have been all sorts of wild accusations about what this bill does," said Sen. Alan Hays, R-Umatilla, who sponsored the Senate bill in Florida. "This is very clear, very simple: In American courts we need American laws and no other."

Duh, when one side believes every manner of stupid collectivist bullshit and the other side believes in actual reality, it's hard to find common ground. I have more in common with Indian and Chinese people busting their humps 15-18 hours a day to get ahead than I have with the average Leftist turd in my own country.

Let's go to the big board: Balanced budget, no education cuts, half a billion in reserve.
Obviously evil and intended to seize lady bits all around.

Mitt Romney appears to be winning a strong victory among Republican voters on the Sammamish Plateau.
Although total numbers havenÂ’t yet been tallied, many of the 52 precincts caucusing at Discovery Elementary School were going for Romney in landslide proportions.

Washington Republicans won the congressional redistricting fight, won the budget fight, and are primed to win the Governorship! We also just ended the state's liquor monopoly and defeated (in a landslide) the income tax proposal too!

24....He wasn't asked, he asked them. I wonder why Obama would want to give the speech at an all Women's College?
From what was leaked last year at this time....apparently that's the only way he gets to speak at commencement exercises....by asking. He hasn't been getting asked to speak at schools very much any more. Heh.
But this particular one is pretty obvious, I think. .....The Dems have laid down this whole contraception thing this year, as an election issue....so that they could then hold themselves up as the 'Saviors of Women' to get the women's vote.

He scares me because he knows what's going on. The future of the Democrat party is not with the unions. Even now they aren't all that powerful except that they're organized and provide a ready army. But the SEIU is barely a union and really sucks as one. It's just an activist group that uses union rules to protect itself.
The Democrat party is going to be the party of the barista with a Master's degree who spends all her free time on Facebook and thinks she's smart and educated.

I always had this question: If a jurisdiction issues marriage licenses to same-sex couples, doesn't that by default force any gay couple living together to be Common Law spouses?

Meanwhile, CA is gearing up to implement cap and trade, which is really redistribution. Top on the list of those who will get the funds confiscated from businesses: Ella Baker Center and, drum roll, Van Jones.

I know that's all true, its a start, and I have hope that a R gov will make a big difference. But there is SO much work to be done to overcome all the crap they've done. The last few months, I've been really starting to flirt with the idea of fleeing to a more conservative state. I really don't want to do that as I love the temperate Western WA climate and beauty, but there's only so much that's tolerable.

* Perhaps it's because the Dems hope to run against the GOP budget in the fall so they can say the mean GOP made them cut this and that? The Dem Gov candidate is significantly behind the Rob McKenna, the GOP candidate and needs something to run for, or against, or something.
* Perhaps this is the Dem's giving a boost to Bumgardner (R) to put Cantdowell (D) out of the US Senate this fall in hopes that might free up that slot for one of the WA State Dem Senators next go around? Or something...
* Passing this budget lets them actually pass a budget that makes some degree of sense, without them having to fully take the hit for any cuts or changes that might be made by it?
I'm sort of leaning to all three... The WA budget fiasco has been boiling for quite a while -- at this point, pretty much anything that makes any degree of sense will stick to anything it touches.
