Parody Ad Rips GM's Culture of Dependency, Softness
— Ace

If you're going to shake your cup at friendly politicians and beg for handouts, then you're going to have to stop with the Masculine Pride type ad campaigns.

If you need a Sugar Daddy, you're not the sort of tall-standing American Ideal Man GM likes to pitch its commercials around.

9 The new Chevy commercials are douchy. The douchiest 2 are the one where the chevy salesman prank calls his old dealership. And the one where he looks for the cassette deck in a new Camry inferring its style is old. Wasn't ever going to buy a GM again and they help me with that decision.

17 LOL, who's giving us out next dollar?  That may be a parody but it is the damned truth.  Because of the Obama intervention and giving the damn company, along with billions of taxpayer dollars to the unions, the problems that led to their bankruptcy were not fixed.

They will be coming back to Washington for yet another bailout soon. The basic problem is that with benefits the average worker at GM makes $78/hr while the average worker (non-union) worker at Toyota in TN makes around $30/hr.

If they had been allowed to go bankrupt and the bankruptcy laws were not violated they would have been able to ditch a lot of that cost.

Oh well, it WILL  be a do-over and we will get to see what Romney does.

People have known for years that polls are unreliable until days before the election, and even then they can be wrong.

Everybody assumes it's because of late movement in campaigns.  Nobody considers the possiblity that asking a handful of people on landlines to represent to opinions of millions is silly.

Horoscopes in the newspaper are as accurate... and just as scientific.

Posted by: BurtTC at October 24, 2012 12:32 PM (TOk1P)

51 I think that's a pretty damning insight, that the incumbent does not gain after the debates, while the challenger always gains a few.

Anyone bored enough to go check?

Also, if you really want to waste time, wonder what happens when you plug 53% in for Mitt for national and then adjust each state now based on 2008 national vs. state results.

What I'm getting at, is I think Romney will get 53% but pull in way more electoral votes and states than the JEF did with the same in 2008.

Here's an experiment.  Take a coin.  Flip it 100 times.  Weigh the results +1 or more for either heads or tails.  See what your results are.

That's Presidential election polling, except with the coinflip, you can be assured you're going to get an accurate reading of the 100 flips at least.  In Prez polling people lie about the heads or tails, and sometimes people who say "heads" lay on their sides and don't go either way.

But still, I bet you get close to 50/50 split.

The Corvette looks fantastic and gets better looking every year. But, damn, its shitty interior is like putting a seersucker suit from Walmart on Kate Middleton.

In the near future Chrysler could be making a new version of the Barracuda based on a shortened Challenger chassis. Bananacuda, baby.

95 Here's an experiment.

Not if I pay you to produce a 60/40 result.

97 I would buy  some of those Dodge products if  I could get 68 and 69 clones.  How about a 69 Dodge Charger with the 426 hemi?

Posted by: Vic at October 24, 2012 12:52 PM (YdQQY)

98 Vic, I would nominate that generation of Charger as one of the sexiest bodies every to come out of Detroit. Slightly less busy details on the '68 and the 440 was a better street motor. Love to have either one.

Posted by: Pecan Scandi at October 24, 2012 01:04 PM (yvSVk)

99 I would take the 340 over the 440.  My brother and I raced a 440 one afternoon with his 340 Dart (69).  Pulled away from him. The only bad thing about the hemi was it need constant tuning and adjustments.

But I saw dinos on the things pulling 1000 hp stock.

104 Well, I bought my third Lexus GS (2013 GS350) in February, my late husband had two Lexus SUVs.  It's Riviera Red with the Chamois interior.  Personalized license tag is BLINGY1 if you are ever in Tulsa.  We always bought American cars until the first Lexus.  We  never looked back.  I even bought stock in Toyota.  If you are a single woman, the Lexus service model can't be beat.  I ruined a tire on my last GS--they have run flat tires, so I horsed it into the Lexus dealership on Saturday of Labor Day weekend.  They could not find a tire, so they handed me the keys to a new HS loaner and said keep it until Tuesday or Wednesday.

105 "The douchiest 2 are the one where the chevy salesman prank calls his old dealership. And the one where he looks for the cassette deck in a new Camry inferring its style is old."

Oh, Buzzsaw, you are so right, I hate those commercials with Kevin.

106 I will never buy GM again. I will not support the UAW under any circumstances.

112 If I were a GMC union bloke, I'd be pushing the union to get GMC to drop the 'training wheels' and get out of gubermint control ASAP so GMC can get back to being a real union company.
