— Ace I must object to this.
It's a standard trope of argument to take an opponent's statement -- even if it doesn't seem true -- as true, and then make arguments based on that.
In this case, Peter King is saying if it's true the FBI and Eric Holder never told Obama that Petraeus was compromised, that speaks poorly of them.
This is often a useful form of argument.
But not here. I realize people don't feel comfortable lodging the term "liar" at every step but it must be said here.
It is simply untrue that Holder and Mueller didn't tell Obama. I do not need a cite for this. It is simply impossible to imagine otherwise.
What did everyone here do when they first read this? Why, you probably told someone else. It's juicy, it's interesting. It's both cloak-and-dagger and slap-and-tickle. It's also, of course, important.
Most sex scandals are not truly important. This one is.
So Holder and Mueller had official reasons for telling Obama that Petraeus was compromised. They also had unofficial reasons-- it's an interesting bit of dirt on someone once touted as a possible Republican presidential candidate (and then later as a possible vice presidential candidate).
But the story they're putting out is that they ignored both the requirements of their positions as top advisers (officially, they were required to tell the chief foreign policy and national security executive in the country) and also ignored the purely human urge to tell tales out of school?
It's not plausible, it's not credible. It's a lie. Plain and simple. Let's not dance around with the if they're telling the truth... formulation in this case. They're not telling the truth. There is no need to entertain a possibility if it's not a possibility.
They're lying, and they're obviously lying, and they're lying in a patently ridiculous way.
The only question is, Why are they lying?

They're lying because Obama didn't drop the hammer until after the eclection because it would be, shall we say, inconvenient and suck up oxygen from his war on wimmens and "look ball" strategy that apparently carried the day quite handily.

I keep going back to the no holds barred style that the Democrats adopted in 04 as what we should do, but for us, I don't think it would work. We don't have a media talking about our brave stands against whatever. We would just be portrayed as the assholes pushing the car off the fiscal cliff or whatever.

On Israel, bombs are dropping,
But I've scrounged some corn for popping,
The good times will not return,
Let It Burn Let It Burn Let It Burn !
When that ol' Bill Of Rights is gone,
And we're nothing but government drones
We'll wish we made more of a fight,
But at least we still have our free phones!

And the GOP's shit, we're buying
But I really have no concern,

And he's wrong. If the FBI and Eric Holder never told Obama, it speaks poorly of him. Any President kept so out-of-the-loop as Obama claims to have been- on Petraeus, on Benghazi, on Fast-and-Furious- is a President who does not have control over his own Administration and must be impeached for his obvious incompetence- just in the hopes that the next guy (who, in this case, is Joe Biden) would do a better job.

King et alii need to build a case, fast, for POTUS suborning perjury on the part of (now ex-)DCI Petraeus' testimony before Congress the other week -- you know, where he parrotted the White House line about the Muhammad video being the trigger for the "spontaneous" riot.
I say this given that Jennifer Griffin at Fox has now reported that indeed the CIA was holding prisoners at their Benghazi annex location; this squares with Broadwell's remarks at a filmed 26 October lecture at the University of Denver (?) that this was the case, that Petraeus had learned of this, and that the sense among Petraeus' folks was that the chief object of the 11 September 2012 attack was actually the CIA location holding-pen. Existence of which was in express contravention of a 2009 Executive Order, and about which the POTUS and DCI might both have been fully aware prior to 11 Sep.

Barky and company, were desperate to prevent Petraeus from testifying.
They knew about the affair.
They probably knew about it even before Petraeus was made CIA director.
Petraeus had been staying with them in their line about "it was The Video"...
But he wasn't under oath.
He was about to be sworn in...in front of Congress...where he might've told the truth.
I think that was too big of a risk for them to take.
So they pulled the plug on him.
Posted by: wheatie at November 12, 2012 10:10 AM (ICEh3)
Well, how smart are they?
By appearing to be scapegoating Petraeus, they've reverse-Alinskied you guys into behaving as if Petraeus is Your Man In Washington, even though he's firmly on the other side (other from *yours*) in this whole War on Terror deal.
So, they're smarter than you. They're making you dance, making you worship a man who hates you.
If their who-knew-what-when lying is purposeful, and its purpose is you-related, the purpose is probably this: Lying about trivialities directs the opposition's interest in the story toward trivia (timelines, bureaucratic information flows, etc.) and away from "What the fuck is the story here?"
So what the fuck is the story?
Is there a story?
I bet there isn't.

Finally! I have been pointing out in comments here and eleswhere for several days that the idea that the FBI investigators would not tell their Director, and he would not tell the AG, who would in turn not tell the President, is laughable!
But that is precisely the assumption implicit in the "coverage" of this story in the mainstream media, who state as FACT that Obama found out two days after the election. Someone get over to NPR and let them in on the big secret - their boyfriend doesn't tell the truth when it doesn't suit him, and as it happens, it never suits him.
Calling Obama a liar is as controversial as calling the midday tropical sun hot. Both are obvious to all but those with their eyes firmly closed.

My guess?
I suspect that the investigation started before Ryan was announced as Romney's VP candidate. There was a slim chance that Petreus might get the nod, and this would have been a huge embarassment for a Romney/Petreus ticket. Once Ryan was announced, the delay became a potential source of embarassment for Obama, so the news of the investigation was delayed until just after the election.

My "point" is the obvious one. At least one so-called "conservative" has to get off their dead ass and publicly call for this regime to be shut down. And at least one so-called "conservative" publication (either dead-tree or Interwebz-based) needs to loudly support the one who calls for it.
Otherwise, this will die down and ultimately be accorded "birfer" status, just like questions regarding voter fraud. That's all "unfair" and possibly even "racist" and has Bad Optics, you know. When the sewer isn't repaired, the shit keeps flowing.
It seems as if Ace has finally reached the saturation point (or at least is getting damn close to it) regarding the endless supply of bullshit Choom Boy and his co-conspirators have been peddling all along. That's a good start.

Negative, these are young enlisted, average age 24ish, I think. And while there is indeed job security in the Army as opposed to the private sector at the moment, there is also the casual discarding of lives at Benghazi to consider, and that has them a bit shaken.

If he was, he knowingly kept as the head of the CIA a man known to be a major security risk. How compromised was he? Apparently the pillow-talk between him and his squeeze included information so classified that he lied to Congress about it- if you listen to her, at least. How compromised was he? Compromised enough that when the FBI realized that his email address was involved, they didn't go to him and say "Hey, did you know someone hacked your email?"
If he wasn't, then his Attorney General has gone completely off the reservation, as have the majority of his senior DoJ staff- indicating gross negligence and incompetence on his part.
Either of those should be worthy of impeachment.

On the evening of Tuesday, June 30, 2009—just five months into his administration—Barack Obama invited a small group of presidential historians to dine with him in the Family Quarters of the White House. His chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, personally delivered the invitations with a word of caution: the meeting was to remain private and off the record. As a result, the media missed the chance to report on an important event, for the evening with the historians provided a remarkable sneak preview of why the Obama presidency would shortly go off the rails.
---
During the presidential campaign, most of the evening’s dinner guests, like their liberal counterparts in the media, had dropped any pretense at objectivity. For instance, Michael Beschloss ('Presidential Courage: Brave Leaders and How They Changed America, 1789-1989') described Obama as “probably the smartest guy ever to become president,” which appeared to put Thomas Jefferson in his place.
Judging from Mr. Obama’s questions, one subject was uppermost in his mind: how could he become a “transformational” president and bend the historic trajectory of America’s domestic and foreign policy?
When one of the historians brought up the difficulties that Lyndon Johnson, another wartime president, faced trying to wage a foreign military venture while implementing an ambitious domestic agenda, Mr. Obama grew testy. He implied that he was different, because he could prevail by the force of his personality. He could solve the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression, put millions of people back to work, redistribute wealth, withdraw from Iraq, and reconcile the United States to a less dominant role in the world.
I won.

This latest revelation...about the 'CIA prison' in Lybia...also feeds into the "It's all Petraeus's fault!" narrative that is forming.
I remember, weeks ago, that there was mention of some 'Prisoners' that had to be let go...because our guys in Benghazi didn't get any backup.
But I thought they were prisoners that they'd taken that night, on 09/11/12.
Now, this Bangwell woman is saying that they'd been holding prisoners there at the CIA complex?
And that was the reason for the attack?

Posted by: Romeo13 at November 12, 2012 11:04 AM (lZBBB)
2. Of course Obama knew. He used the threat of reveling the affair and Petraeus getting demoted (with demoted pension) to get himto accept the CIA position.
3. So then compromised Petraeus was in CIA and was being talked about like he should be a candidate (pres or veep). This talk mostly came from the Obama people, who were trying tolure Romney inot making that mistake.
4. When Benghazi happened, I notice this all looked like it was going to get dumped on the CIA. I think they were trying to force Petraeus to do it. For all I know, someone in the CIA had info and was getting ready to drop it against Obama.
5. The idea that Obama didn't know is, of course, ridiculous. However, everyone is going to try to shift blame to Holder or someone in the FBI because if they don't, Obama is guilty of blackmail and extortion, which are felonies which fall under high crimes and misdemeanors, and the GOP wants no part of another impeachment.
So there you go.

I presume by "their legislature" you mean the TX Legislature (which, no, Jordan, is not in session). I think you're right about that.
If 25,000 Texans signed the petition... I dunno. It could happen. I don't think it would fail by a nose, though. I think it would either get laughed off the ballot, or win pretty handily.
If you mean the US Legislature... I'm not so sure. While the US Constitution does mention secession (obliquely), it never mentions how such a thing would be done.

Prior to the Civil War, several states had threatened secession- no one once doubted their right to do so. So it wasn't until Lincoln that anyone thought you couldn't secede.

Uh, WTF?
Last TOTAL damage estimate I saw a few days ago (for all states, and including economic losses, i.e. nothing whatsoever to with repairs) was around $50 billion, with NY about 30% of that (i.e $15 billion), and actual damage, as opposed to economic loss, around 60% of that, so $9 billion.
And much of that would be covered by insurance.

Oklahoma has 6.
So if those three states banned together, and declared their independence...

An Egyptian jihad leader, with self-professed links to the Taliban, called for the “destruction of the Sphinx and the Giza Pyramids in Egypt,” drawing ties between the Egyptian relics and Buddha statues, local media reported this week.
Murgan Salem al-Gohary, an Islamist leader twice-sentenced under former President Hosni Mubarak for advocating violence, called on Muslims to remove such “idols.”
“All Muslims are charged with applying the teachings of Islam to remove such idols, as we did in Afghanistan when we destroyed the Buddha statues,” he said on Saturday during a television interview on an Egyptian private channel, widely watched by Egyptian and Arab audiences.

I'd wash the queen's feet with my tears, we were wrong mother....
we were wrong and at a minimum ma'am you'tre a nobler soul than our new king....can we come home?
and they always say no
-----------
Sven, I haven't seen Skyfall yet...but don't be fooled by what you see in a movie.
The Brits are ahead of us, in socialistic control over their daily lives.
I for one...do not want to go back under British rule.

called for the “destruction of the Sphinx and the Giza Pyramids in
Egypt,” drawing ties between the Egyptian relics and Buddha statues,
local media reported this week.
Murgan Salem al-Gohary, an Islamist leader twice-sentenced under former
President Hosni Mubarak for advocating violence, called on Muslims to
remove such “idols.”
If they destroy the pyramids, we need to bomb them back into the stone age. I mean this. I still get upset about that humongous buddah statue those assholes blew up several years ago. Fuck those evil goatfuckers.

@369
Prior to the Civil War, several states had threatened secession- no one once doubted their right to do so. So it wasn't until Lincoln that anyone thought you couldn't secede.
-------------------------
Not true. South Carolina threatened to secede when Jackson was president, but he sent troops to the state to tamp down on it before anything could actually come of the threat.

Sven,
Peaches is right, hon...get some sleep.
I highly recommend the herbal sleep remedies, like SleepMD and Alteryl.
They work.
Add some benedryl, if you need to...but get some sleep.
You're no good to your family if you get sick or have a meltdown.

Setting aside all the problems with secession generally, it would be nice to have some country that was more conservative/libertarian than the USA. It would be a good counter example to the leftist statist BS that the Dems want to pull. Right now, the USA is the most "free" state on the planet ("free" in the libertarian sense, not the anarchist sense).
Posted by: wooga at November 12, 2012 11:38 AM (vjyZP)
That's certainly the truth.
IF these discussions were going on withing the Halls of Power here in TX, I would hope that moves were already being made to secure the US Military resources within the State.
Because then we have a fighting chance.
Also- second the notion you go get some sleep. When I don't want to dope up too much, I'll use valerian (sp?) root. One capsule is usually enough to let me wind down and sleep. If I really can't sleep (and I know I have at least 8.5 hours) I'll take 2.

That's why I think it entirely possible Obama wasn't told. Even before campaign season he was highly disengaged, rarely meeting with his own cabinet or congressional leaders. He had briefings sent to his iPad instead of personally attending. He did manage a hundred rounds of golf, so there is that.
I mean, how often does Mueller even get an audience with The One? My guess: almost never.
And during the campaign? I suspect he was "President" in the same way that the Queen Elizabeth rules England.

You know the answer to this, Sven.
We let our compassion and our honor...be used against us.
We fight with honor...they don't.
We let things like 'political correctness' and 'multiculturalism' creep in...when they are simply cloaking devices for curtailing Freedom of Speech and devaluing our own culture.
If we are going to "let it burn", then we must demand that R's in congress block all bailouts to the states which should burn first.
Bailouts will only delay the burn.

One should pay more attention in history class. He threatened to take military action and congress passed a bill authorizing it at the same time they reduced the tariffs of abomination.
When the tariffs were reduced SC repealed the nullification law. And the crisis was averted.

"Jennifer Griffin at Fox has now reported that indeed the CIA was holding prisoners at their Benghazi annex location; this squares with Broadwell's remarks at a filmed 26 October lecture at the University of Denver (?) that this was the case, that Petraeus had learned of this, and that the sense among Petraeus' folks was that the chief object of the 11 September 2012 attack was actually the CIA location holding-pen. Existence of which was in express contravention of a 2009 Executive Order, and about which the POTUS and DCI might both have been fully aware prior to 11 Sep."
________________________________
As for his affair compromising security, isn't this proof of that? That Broadwell knew of the prisonsers at the CIA annex and the one who must have told her was Petraeus?
Wasn't she essentially outting Petraeus at the same time she may have been trying to protect him (by saying he wasn't allowed to speak to the press?).
All the way around, a huge mess, all because of Obama's "light-foot" Mideast policies and all because the Chicago boys think they know what the hell they're doing.
It's going to be really tough, as the layers of the onion are peeled off one by one, to get any Dems to say the POTUS knew anything. They will not. The black folk I know are already convinced (which is one reason black folk never climb out of their socioeconomic mess and dysfunction--it's just easier to lie to yourself about the man keeping you down than to admit your own fuckin' failings as a group) that whites in general are out to get Obama..

So they tried to fake everybody out there by looking defenseless as if to advertise no need for defence. HEY GUYS WE ARE harmless and unobtrusive; but the mistake of gaining such an appearance not with camouflauge but actual weak security, to the point of not letting anyone there have some when it was needed and begged for, and incidents were increasing and escalating.
If there were trying to fool the people there, they didn't do a very good job. I think they will have more success fooling Americans, though, and keeping them from understanding how the facility was being used and how necessary boosted security had been. If Americans find out now, it'll be like Obama just murdered a bunch of Americans to hide his methods.

Just had a delicious thought (even though he's a loon). I have no idea if there has been an impeachable offense such as obstruction of justice, but if so, the Obama admin has to worry about Old Joe, whose only chance of ever being President, a job he has coveted for decades, is if his boss is impeached.
I'd think Barry and group would never show their hand to the Veep, but some things are hard to hide.
It's nice to think about their having to worry about Joe as well as so many other things.

You recall Admiral Poindexter protected Reagan with "plausible deniability."
I can buy that Holder would hold off telling Obama until after the election as long as it was only for a few weeks. However, the thing that I don't buy that some began saying yesterday is that the affair didn't begin until after he became Director.
Every journalist now who had been in Afghanistan said it was a not so secret secret that they were a twosome.

137 "I imagine Obama probably has an arrangement that all news come through Valerie Jarrett. She decides whether it is ok for him to "hear" it or not."
That's probably 100% accurate.
