— Pixy Misa . . . in the absurd uproar over his comments regarding London's handling of the Olympics, and as much as I hate giving the man credit and lauding his wisdom in the precious space I've been allotted here at the HQ, there's hardly anyone else around to give it to. Romney's allies on the right have, for the most part, been standing aside with crossed arms and furrowed brow -- tut-tutting the political implications of Mitt's moment of candor.
But not Piers Morgan. Piers studied the situation from a distance, compared what he heard yesterday to everything he'd heard from his fellow countrymen up 'til now, and declared that everyone on the planet, except for himself and Mitt Romney, is full of crap. And that includes me, since I was pretty much thinking the same variation on "Oh my God, he's on bath salts!" that everyone else was thinking.
But, after seeing what Morgan had to say, it occurred to me that Mitt could have turned to his advantage, or at least largely mitigated, if his advisers hadn't panicked and forced him to don the sack cloth and ash.
“I read the same reports I think a lot of people did about all the challenges being faced by the organizing committee,” Romney told NBC, “but after being here a couple of days, it looks like London is ready.”“I’m absolutely convinced the people here are ready for the Games,” he added.
Granted, it's hard to blame them given the heat they were taking from their own side over this stupid little controversy. But that's exactly what it is -- just a stupid, temporary distraction that would have otherwise faded into the din of coverage of the Olympics themselves in a day or two. So why not just wait it out?
Hindsight being what it is and all, I can't help thinking missed an opportunity to demonstrate qualities that voters are going to be looking for come November -- especially the independent-types who are ultimately going to make the call: candor and competence. Had Mitt stuck to his guns and refused to walk back his relatively innocuous comments, he'd have had to endure a few days more of hostility from the international press along with that of our own. Of course, that hostility is pretty much stipulated anyway, but it would have been turned up to eleven until the next shiny object caught their attention.
Mitt's going to need to draw stark contrasts between himself and SCOAMF from here on out and take every opportunity he can get. Once the initial vituperation over his comments finally gave way to the event itself, Mitt could have simply pointed to the screw-ups that are going to inevitably happen and said something like:
"Look, I was just going by what I heard from the people of London, and as it happens, they were right. They screwed up this, they screwed up that, and they screwed up that. Having actually brought a similar event back from the brink of catastrophe, I saw a lot of the same mistakes being made that I encountered when I took over the Winter Games in Utah, and I said as much. Yes, there may have been some hard truths in what I said, but responsible executives confront hard truths; they don't gloss over them. As the President of the United States, I'm going to confront many truths that are vastly harder than those faced by the folks running the Olympics. And the American people deserve a leader who won't gloss over them for the sake of temporary political expediency."
Unfortunately, too many on the right -- myself included -- got their dresses up over their heads over this minor little blip, and the Romney organization listened to them instead of figuring out a way to turn it to their advantage. It's not just Team Romney's fault; it's the fault of so many conservatives like me who can't wait to break out the #facepalm hashtag whenever the opportunity presents itself.

I still don't see why this is a controversy. If there's one thing in the Universe upon which Mitt is qualified to opine, it's how to run a successful Olympics. Okay, I can see some criticism for not being more polite about it but I didn't think what he said was that awful in the first place.
Perhaps it's because I read the Daily Mail online a lot (for the um articles) but the concerns about security are not precisely a huge secret. There's been bitching about this in the UK press since London won the bid.

On the polls that assess what the top issues are to voters, where exactly does "The Olympic Games" rank?

On the other hand, there are over 4 million U.S. citizens living abroad, plus 500K+ government employees and military, and of course Romney wants their votes, even if diluted by the electoral college system.

Yeah, that was pretty pathetic. Mitt isn't exactly a case study in courage.
America has already been effectively killed by the Indonesian, with the final nails put in the coffin by Benedict Roberts of Mandate Tax-ilvania, and we're stuck with a gutless, but nice, guy who can't hold to an opinion for more than a day if someone yells at him. And over something as silly as this in a country (where Mitt shouldn't be, to begin with) that loves the Indonesian and has been rooting for the death of America since the Third World Dog-Eating Retard illegally slimed into office, even as Barky has slapped Britain around and shown them nothing but utter contempt. No surprise for the nation that unceremoniously tossed Churchill out the minute they were safe and went full retard socialist.
Un-freakin-believable.

What's interesting is that much of the security now rests with the army, and they may not have the means to communicate effectively with the remainder of the security contingent. That could lead to some dropped balls. Plus the average squadie isn't really trained to deal with clueless tourists, but that's not dangerous so much as potentially hilarious.

After more than 30 years at this company and nearly 10 years as the leader of this great news organization, I have decided to leave my role at CNN on December 31, 2012.
For some time, IÂ’ve been talking with Phil Kent about wanting to make a change, and he supports my decision. IÂ’ve told Phil that I will cooperate with any transition timeline that he and Time Warner want to implement. Phil requested that I work out the year and be available after that if needed, which IÂ’ve agreed to do.
I am proud of what we have accomplished together over these last 10 years – innovative programming, the development of great talent in front of and behind the cameras, expansion in digital and mobile, significant investment and expansion in international coverage, financial success and, most importantly, great and trusted journalism. Thank you for the role you have played in our successes.
CNN needs new thinking. That starts with a new leader who brings a different perspective, different experiences and a new plan, one who will build on our great foundation and will commit to seeing it through. And IÂ’m ready for a change. I have interests to explore and I want to give myself time to do it.
The next few months will be filled with election news and other important events that will require all of our focus to report the news with the quality and expertise the world expects of CNN. I look forward to working alongside each of you, as I have over the past 30-plus years, to do just that.

@59 - my seven-year-old daughter watches that show fanatically. I've sat with her, at her request, from time to time to watch, and keep tabs on the type of stuff that gets poured into her brain.
I've seen enough to notice several key plot holes.
Apparently a big deal is made of the time when a child-pony "comes of age" and grows the little picture on their butt. This picture is apparently an identifier of that creature's innate talent, yet is always also something similar to their name. Which makes me wonder why they get named at all before the little butt-icon shows up? Wouldn't you hate to be the parents on the ONLY ONE that got a name that had nothing to do with your kid's butt-icon? "Wow, man, you really miss-called "Mega-buck" over there, didn't you?", as they point to your child with the picture of Cheetos and a gaming controller on his ass...
Secondly, there is an old lady character who, as a combination of her age and her family's ownership of apple orchards, is named "Granny Smith." Was she always called Granny Smith? What about back before she had grand-children? What about when she was a child herself? Was she just called Smith then?
I ask my daughter these questions. She gives me the same soft, loving-yet-condescending look that I get when I forget the raisins in her oatmeal at breakfast.

Or should he say, "my this is delicious, I'm going to have a big job for you some day." Similarly, Romney didn't realize that he was dealing with a bunch of six year olds so he gave a knowledgeable answer. Anything nicer would have been BS and recognized as that.

Whatever else would fit to hand. It's like the Washington Post article on high school bully Romney: if they (American liberal MSM and British MSM, just as anti-Republican as the American MSM and of course more anti-American) are determined to find something to "gotcha" Romney on, whatever it is, they'll find it, by golly.

But, no... The right bought into the left wing media's narrative...and the right started spreading the left's propaganda for them...once again.
The right's been pretty good about being led around by the nose. You're not so good about that whole leadership thingy, though...
