— Ace In which I count my lucky stars we finally got Romney. Yippee!
This was on last night.
I'm very depressed.
I think I'm going to segue this right on over to a full-on D&D blog. D&D is slightly less of a disaster than the GOP.
Meanwhile, even people you'd expect to be anti-Romney are turning hard on Gingrich (as Rush turned hard on Perry), and Jim DeMint says he expects Romney (whom he endorsed in 200
to win South Carolina, so I guess we're at that moment in The Untouchables when Malone asks, "Are we done, then?"
Some more Romney/Gingrich stuff at Hot Air. Gingrich does appear at this point to just be out for vengeance.
Said one “longtime ally” of Gingrich today to National Journal, “The sense is, he’s just lashing out. His friends aren’t trying to talk him off the ledge.”

I'm not sure what you're going to do for blog content for the next six or seven months given that we can not criticize Romney for fear of giving Obama ammunition and the other candidates horses have been beaten to death.
The D&D blogging sounds like a good idea.

1) We get Romney.
2) He picks a solidly conservative VP.
3) We get a Republican Congress
4) Conservative appointments take over the Judiciary..
5) Republicans rule for the next 16 years.
Remember that Romney only governed left when he had to accommodate a far left legislature. If he has a conservative legislature I doubt he will lean left.

I've been resigned to the inevitability for some time now, probably since Perry started tanking after the early debates. It's been interesting watching the process, since I was holding out no hope.
Here's the thing though, I think it's possible to push Romney to the right. Really. The impression I have though, is that this nonsense about Bain and Newt attacking capitalism, it's Newt's way of DARING Romney not to go further left, and the people in Camp Romney telling him "you can't let Newt get to the left of you." If I'm right, this is a comedy, not a tragedy. And if that's all it's about, then it's not out of the question that Romney does a reversal of what we all were told to expect: campaign right in the primaries, move to the center in the general.

If the question is limited to rock/pop, you do have to draw a hard line that would eliminate the likes of Armstrong and Ellington.
Someone asked about Robert Johnson, the blues stuff recorded in that era was a seriously limited market, and you'd probably not find too many white people who would have been listening to it at the time.

It's too early for all you wimps to roll over for Romney. At least, it is, according to this English guy:
Mitt Romney looks formidable, but he could still stumble in South Carolina
Mitt Romney made history yesterday. He is the first Republican (other than an incumbent president) to win both Iowa and New Hampshire. He has Mittmentum.
South Carolina votes on the 21st, and its primary is fast turning into the last stand of the Republican Right. Romney is likely to win, but there are a few things that could trip him up in the next ten days.
1. The Bain attack might start to pay off. South Carolina has some pockets of old industry that have suffered in the recession. Stories circulating about how Romney behaved like Larry the Liquidator while working at Bain could hurt him among blue-collar voters. Already Mitt is in trouble for saying how much he enjoys firing people, while Newt GingrichÂ’s super PAC is spending $3.4 million on anti-Bain, anti-Romney ads in South Carolina alone.
2. Someone other than Mitt performs well in the next debate. Debates have mattered in this primary season in a way that they never have before. Almost every candidate’s surge has been prefigured by a good debate performance – including Huntsman’s last minute bounce in New Hampshire. It’s entirely possible that Gingrich or Santorum might shine in the debates on the 16th and 19th. It’s also possible that everyone could gang up on Romney, as they did last Sunday.
3. Someone drops out. Romney is winning primaries, but not by much. He gets away with it because the Anybody But Romney vote is split several ways. If Rick Perry pulls out, his percentage could top up GingrichÂ’s or SantorumÂ’s and make them competitive. Better still, if Gingrich or Santorum drop out, the remaining candidate would be formidable. On this score, conservatives really have to get their act together soon.
4. Christian conservatives settle on a candidate and rally round. At the end of this week, religious conservatives will meet in Texas to choose a figurehead. It’s significant that Gary Bauer, former head of the powerful Family Research Council, has already endorsed Santorum. South Carolina is an intensely religious state – far more so than New Hampshire. If Gingrich or Santorum can get enough momentum among evangelical voters, they might pull off a narrow win.
5. The polls prove accurate. So far, opinion polling has proven pretty good at predicting the finishing order of various candidacies. The latest results for South Carolina put Romney at around 30 percent, with Santorum and Gingrich at about 20 percent each. Those odds arenÂ’t bad: with a little movement and a little luck, either candidate could gain ten points in the next week. It helps that Ron Paul probably isnÂ’t a factor in this race: heÂ’s languishing at ten percent.
In short, thereÂ’s still everything to play for. Ultimately, primaries are all about good math: cobble together a certain number of votes and youÂ’ve got a winning plurality. If either Gingrich or Santorum emerges in the next few days as the leader of a solid Anybody But Romney movement, theyÂ’ll open the race up again. If they donÂ’t, the 2012 Republican primaries will be a lifeless coronation.

They missed a great opportunity in 2006 to rebrand themselves, but of course they didn't. They like the D.C. favors-for-votes and general featherbedding business that they are in--see no need to change it.

Amen! They're awfully repetitious too, but that's only if you try to listen to one song after another, which was never the way it was intended. I can't even begin to imagine what it was like to listen to him live. There was a reason some genius decided they needed to get him into a studio. Unfortunately, due to lack of funds or trying to make some quick cash, they didn't put much effort into the recordings.

I think that a lot of people *want* to give Obama the benefit of the doubt,
The only people who will do that are the die hards, people like Debbie Blabbermouth Shultz, my sis in law etc. But wayyyy too many people who voted for SCOAMF are very disillusioned right now. I think he will lose in a landslide. Only way he wins is to outright steal the election and then folks... we have a revolution.

Exactly what the Romney fucks were counting on. That everyone would vote for a week old ham sandwich if it was the nominee against the SCOAMF.
I'd wager that most of the viscious underhanded attacks against any of the other nominees came from the Romney camp. That's just how that fucker rolls, and that's why the other candidates are calling him out for just what the hell he is. They know what the hell he's doing.
Romney is depending on the fact that we all want to frogmarch the asswipe from the WH, and he thinks that no matter what we'll all drag ourselves to the polls to beat deWon, even if it means we have to vote for someone that many of us despise.
Honestly, I'm afraid we are overestimating the people that hate de Won enough to get off their asses and go to the polls for someone they don't think will be much better.

@51 What to do for the next 6-7 months? Work to get conservative Congresscritters elected.
Exactly! Work at the local level to influence the political atmosphere, bring in the conservative voices (hopefully with a Libertarian bend) at the local, state, and national levels. This is not too tough for me, I live in a very conservative district, McCotter is my congresscritter and he does a pretty fine job. I am also actively working for Pete Hoekstra against Debbie Stabenaw, and some other local guys who deserve some support. And the local Tea Party groups are well organized, funded, and poplular.
I am willing to support Romney based on ABO, and I know he will have to listen if the majority of his party are conservatives. After all, that will be the direction the wind blows.

The danger here is that conservatives might go too far into Santorum-like territory. We don't have any of that newfangled libertarianism around these parts.

Oil-Less Roux
2 cups all purpose flour
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Spread flour evenly across the bottom of a 15-inch cast iron skillet. Bake, stirring occasionally, for approximately 1 hour. Make sure to stir well around the edges of the skillet so flour does not scorch. Cook flour until light or dark color is achieved, depending on use. The roux will become darker when liquid is added. When desired color is reached, cool on a large cookie sheet, stirring occasionally. Store in a sealed jar for future use. 1 cup of oil-less roux will thicken 1 1/2 quarts of stock to a proper gumbo consistency.

I've never heard of baking it in a cast iron skillet. I melt 1/4 cup of butter, 1/4 cup of oil then stir in whole wheat flour and slowly cook it on the stove. Takes about an hour for a very dark roux. Have to stir fairly often but it comes out perfect.

I kind of agree that Pathfinder needs to come out with a "family edition", like Moldvay (RIP) and Mentzer did with the staged Basic / Expert / Companion sets. Just because it's family friendly doesn't mean it has to suck. "The Desert Nomads" x4/x5/x10 series comes to mind.

Will Not Assimiilate,
Romney is a RINO stiff, but he's nothing like Al Gore. Al Gore really was just running on the family name and connections. Romney probably benefited from family connections in some way, but he made his bones on his own in the private sector and in a bigger way than his dad ever did. Romney donated his entire inheritance to charity.
Romney is Hannibal to his dad's Hamilcar Barca, assuming the Barcids were RINO squishes.
This whole father-son stuff in politics is interesting. You have Churchill and his dad. You have the Gores, father and son. You have the Bushes. Of those, I think Gore is definitely the one who had the least talent and ability in this own right. George Bush II was a little bit running on his daddy's gas too, although not nearly as much. But Churchill and Romney and mostly Bush benefited from their family connections but earned it in their own right too.
What you see, though, is that the family connection and trying to live up to Dad distorted their careers. Churchill did a lot of loony stuff that held him back politically in trying to imitate his father. Romney and Gore are both ultra-stiff and awkward probably because neither of them is naturally interested in politics. Romney is trying to redeem his Dad's failure to become President and Gore was groomed for it by his family. In both cases, the lack of natural inclination shows. Bush was over-eager to get into Iraq without thinking through how to make it work probably in part to finish what his Dad hadn't.

Look at it this way.
I don't know, Lucy. I've got my hopes up before, and the football got yanked away.

Why can't we criticize him from the Right? It's not like Obama is going to run ads gigging Romney for being too moderate.
If Ace isn't actually trying to suppress turnout and reminds people why turning out is important, holding the nominee's feet to the fire would be a healthy thing. It's long past time that Republicans stopped hero-worshipping our nominees and relying on them to inspire and motivate us.

That's right, the Obama Administration thought that churches should have to hire ministers and priests without discriminating on the basis of sex, sexual orientation, or religious affiliation. And some of you say that the election doesn't matter!
