— LauraW A tweet from CBS's White House reporter this morning.
Obama Campaign says Romney's career at Bain Capital "was not about creating jobs, it was about creating profits."
— Mark Knoller (@markknoller) August 24, 2012
I'll leave the logical smackdown to you in comments, darling Morons.
Can you imagine Clinton, or even Carter, coming out and making such an idiotic statement? No way.
But these are not your ordinary liberals. These are Obama Liberals, the most caring, supercharged liberals; the razor's edge, the smartest people in the room.
Obama Liberals have the cheek to come out, in public, and essentially proclaim "We have no idea where all the money or jobs come from!! WHEEE!!"
They are pandering to their base, which is dumb people.
The reason they think they can get away with saying this stupid thing, in public, is that they believe most Americans are too dim to spot the error of understanding in that statement.
Therefore the statement, as well as the expectation that no one will point out that it is in fact f*cktarded, is an implicit insult to the intelligence of all Americans.
And fortunately, that is where their main ignorance lies. They do not understand you, America.
UPDATE FROM EMAIL
John E. writes:
The other part that I take away from Obama's statement is that he believes the word "profits" is widely regarded as a "bad word", but of course it isn't. This a pretty obvious anti-capatilist view that is only held by his most collectivist supporters, and not by the American public. The mask slips yet again.

Profit is bad. Unless you are a democrat.
Then and only then is profit holy.
In any case, all your profits belong to the Obama administration. Corruptocrats are not finished handing out your hard earned
money to their cronies.

I gently explained to him that businesses exist to create products that they sell and make their owners/shareholders a profit from. He was dumbfounded by this...
The people they're aiming this message at actually exist.

Along that line, WZ has a post on the annual salaries of the heads of the big unions, including Trumka and SEIU. Remarkably, they're all in the $300-500k range. Apparently it requires a lot of money to be that caring about your members as the businesses that employ them circle the drain.

It's not that they don't understand America, it's that they don't understand human nature.
I have a co-worker that somehow seems to believe that businesses should exist to create jobs.
Whenever I hear this I always want to ask the person why he or she is not working for no pay.

Has ANY president made attacking capitalism such an important part of his political platform? Really, I don't know. Teddy or FDR?
That's the thing about his "You didn't build that" line. It's one of those lines that doesn't get better with more context, it gets worse when you read the rest of the statement.

This is the essence of liberal thinking. Entrepreneuars exist to serve the state and society. Businesses are to give people jobs, pay for their healtchare, pay for their retirement, and to just make their life better. This is just along line of great quotes from this administration:
"I think we all do better when we spread the wealth around."
"At some point, I think you have made enough money."
"The private sector is doing just fine."
"You didn't build that."
"Businesses care more about making profits than creating jobs."
This is what they believe. If you start a business, you are now a servent of the state.

Officials are proposing an amendment to the ...as required by the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. The bill became law in July 2010.

The only part of this I don't understand is why a guy who works for CBS news is going on the Twits website and posting this. If it's news, doesn't it belong on, you know, the news? And if it's not news, then what is it, gossip? Did Barack Obama say this to the newsguy personally? Where were they, if not at a public event where plenty of people heard it? In the men's room?
I swear, the whole world is becoming populated with virtual teenage girls.

What you all are missing... is that this is NOT an error... this is both a true statement, and HOW they think.
They believe that somehow, it IS industrys and business's main mission, to create Jobs, not Goods... not wealth....
Its like how they measure success... ie the GDP, which is all about the movement of money, not the creation of things....
The truely do not understand the very BASIS of why capitalism works. (which is why they've let the banks go from a needed framework, to the too big to fail monstrers they now are... and why they changed the commodities market from a lubricant of supply demand, to an online betting pool where the vast majority of commodity contracts are never delivered)

Soothsayer, I think the only way this can work for Obama is if Romney gets to wound up in whether Bain focused on creating jobs or not. Romney should fully accept that the premise that profits come first. People build their own businesess to help themselves and their familly. But all of society benefits when businesses become profitable. Unprofitable businesses don't create jobs. Its a simple concept that can be explained succinctly, but he must start by accepting the premise. Obama thinks its a bad thing. A majority of the voters do not. Own it.
Posted by: SH at August 24, 2012 07:00 AM (gmeXX)
This is why Romney and Ryan should forget about blowing hundreds of millions on traditional 30 second ads.
They should produce 15 minute mini-tutorials on business, the economy, healthcare, government waste, etc. Purchase half hour blocks and run two segments back to back.

These days it would be the reverse: Punky would be a leftist flower-child twit who thought that food comes from unicorn farts, and the little rich girl would be the one who knows carrots come from farms because her daddy got rich from agribusiness.

A few years back I had an epiphany about stupid people. First, they are ever with us. This is why old men get so cranky - they expect the populace to get more intelligent as time goes by and it never happens.
Second, what triggered this was watching some woman driver do something so terribly stupid at sixty miles an hour on the freeway that I was actually stunned by it. As I passed her car I looked over and it dawned on me that she looked just like this stupid girl I knew in high school. At that point the light flashed on - people you knew in school that were stupid don't get smarter, they just get older. TA DA!
The 52%. I rest my case.

It does seem that some of the more "credible" media is shifting just a bit. Obviously, I don't expect true believers like MSNBC to shift, but some of the more longer tenured reporters at the more traditional newsrooms and print media will shift - if only slightly. Partly out of self-preservation and partly out of not tieing Obama's coming defeat to the defeat of liberalism in general. But I think it is partly out of just wanting to be on the winning side, or at least perceived to be smart enough to have seen this coming. I suspect that a few conservative commentators knew what we knew about Obama, but also knew he would win. So they cozied up to him to look pretty smart. Really it is just being gutless. Anyway, I doubt the news media will be as full in the tank for Obama as they were in 2008. Probably starting in October, when it becomes clear that he is going to lose and he is going to lose big. By then there will be no way to save the ship, so you might as well jump.

Knoller's reporting what the Obama campaign said. Nothing wrong with that.
We've seen a couple miracles on CNN recently, with Wolf and now AC - it almost looks like a couple of their shows decided to do a little market research - 'hey, if we do credible journalism over here now and then, will it help our ratings?'
Ashley (wasn't it once 'Ashleigh' back in the first Gulf War days?) Banfield's producer apparently didn't get the memo, they were still in full-Dem-oil-massage mode the last time we looked.
There really is room in the middle for an outfit prepared to dole out hotfoots equally to both sides, but it's got to be relevant.

i mean you have to get out of bed and everything, you know?

"I have a co-worker that somehow seems to believe that businesses should exist to create jobs."
This was the (misguided) point that a lot of the Occupoopers were all about.
A business in business of making money is evil. Businesses should exist to give me a place to go for eight hours a day and do as much or as little as I desire, and then give me a paycheck at the end of each week. What, you don't have any positions where my Bachelor's in Post-Modernist Canadian Literature makes me a perfect fit? Well, then, I guess you'll just need to have a few words with My President about that.

Expect this to try to tie into "big banks" and "Wall Street regulation" as we go farther into the cycle.
The democrats are trying to seperate "profit" from "job creation" using banks and the finacial system as a wedge to do it. Mostly because the average american doesn't understand private equity or banking.
So their plan is to convince the public that Bain was no better than a big bank (like BofA) which people already hate, connect the two in their mind and BAM! Profit.
I don't think it'll work, but americans have been stupider before.

I may be in the minority here, but I really don't think you'd find too many people in the higher levels of the O administration (possibly excepting O himself) who believe this tripe. Yeah the first principals of business. I was struck today because Kodak is calling it quits with film and photographic paper and selling that part of their business. Reason being of course that they can no longer turn a profit in that business. This hits me personally because I still shoot with film for a variety of reasons. Now I think amongst the arteests there is still a place for film photography, the problem is Kodak didn't anticipate their product transitioning from main stream to a specialty niche product.
I just hope that whomever buys Kodak's film business recognizes the going forward value (though vastly reduced) of buggy whips for that niche market and actually serves our needs for quality products.

FOXNEWS CALLS IT BY NAME!
The Great Depression that Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke claims to have averted has been part of the background radiation of our economy since at least 2008.
It's just that, like radiation, it's invisible.
We've called it the recovery, the jobless recovery, the slogging recovery and more recently the fading recovery. We've measured modest growth in our nation's gross domestic product to record that our so-called Great Recession ended in June 2009. And now we are saying that if this disappointing growth suddenly disappears, as currently feared, we will be in a new recession.
They admit that the stock market is because the rest of the world is more scared of their home than here and we are the hedge....
Helicopter Ben your time is UP!

OT - my smartphone's camera app has a "polaroid" feature. Basically, you take a picture with it, then the screen goes dark brown. You have to shake the phone for 10-15 seconds as the screen slowly fades into the picture.
Then you have a "pen" feature with your finger where you can write over the photo.
Thank you, Android, for reminding just how lame things were 25 years ago. Maybe in ICS, the Polaroid Camera App can also require me to take the phone apart and put in a new flash after every couple pictures, too!

Obama Liberals have the cheek to come out, in public, and essentially proclaim "We have no idea where all the money or jobs come from!! WHEEE!!"<<<<
I don't think you can improve on that summary. They really are that stupid, and explaining it wouldn't help, because they don't have the mental acuity to from the explanation.
Mark Rippetoe has a great quote about arguing with idiots who are convinced of their brilliance:
"Just because some jackass asserts a thing does not mean that it is worthy of refutation. If the same guy tells you that every space shuttle launch perturbs the Earth's orbit, and that the cumulative effects are just about to start the process of the loss of the atmosphere into space, thus creating a vacuum that will destroy all life on the planet in approximately 36 hours, would you deem this necessary to refute? How much time would you spend explaining to him why this cannot happen? Would not your time be spent better doing other things? And if you devise a concise explanation, why would you assume he would understand?"
Mockery is the correct course.

Wait . . . what?
Not to give the troll cover or anything, but profits do not keep the lights on, revenue does. Profits are what's left after the lights are on. The only real justification for corporate profits are dividends to teh shareholders, which can be viewed only through the prism of whether the company needs operating capital from teh stock issuance. The stockholders demand profits from the board or the board gets replaced (in theory)
Non-profit companies employ a lot of people, and are a perfectly viable way of running any business. Problem is, they cannot raise capital, and they cannot attract initial investors with the lure of profits. A "break even" company is perfectly viable, though.

Now that performance, I think it had some serious issues. The advice I gave last week about how I work the audience when I sing remains good advice for this performance as well. I see a little of my style though which I do like. Overall though I think this performance just wasn't enough like me to be good.

If all you are doing is "breaking even" you are wasting the time value of your investment capital. If you are merely breaking even in the long run, you need to shut down sell your assets and put the investment capital into a more profitable enterprise.

Posted by: sven10077 at August 24, 2012 12:19 PM (LRFds)
Yes. Leftist theories are always stagnant because of the limitations of weak minds that can only conceive of a static world that never really changes, since they can't imagine what changes would happen, which then leads them to centralize power and build committees that force that stagnation on everything around them, as they force reality to stick to the static detailed rules of the centralized power and committees to rule over it.
On top of that, there is the lure of forcing stagnation - and thus death - on humanity in order to carry out their more nihilistic motivations.

A "break even" company is perfectly viable, though.
Why aren't yourunning one?

oops.
Economically, dipshits. I said I'm not defending the idiots. By the same token, it's just as ignorant to say that a business must turn profits to continue. Practically speaking from an investor standpoint that is absolutely true, but it is also an incomplete picture of the economics of the thing. Profits are what's left over after paying expenses, and if expenses are covered, then the business can continue.
In fact, there are many small businesses that operate without profits, because they are getting started or going through lean times. When its you who has to make those choices to keep people on staff, come talk to me about how anyone not running a profit is a commie.
But that's the problem with the foundations: all the leftists go into them because that's how they view the world. That's also why conservatives need to establish expressly conservative foundations as a counterweight. Getting non-profits doing conservative work in society is fundamental to getting this country back on track.

Daughter was channel surfing and talking with me while I was getting ready for work. Out of the blue she says, "He is just so gay."
"Who's gay?"
"President Obama." Sadly, first thoughts were of the AoS blog comment section with Reggie Love commentary. I obviously spend way too much time here.
"What makes you think he's gay?"
"Not gay gay. He's just ... gay." I'm not for sure, but I'm pretty sure that I felt an eye roll accompanying her answer.
"Have you ever watched him give a speech? He smiles just like he expects everything he says to get up twinkles."
Knowledge of up twinkles courtesy of teacher in her Intro to Macroeconomics class. Yep. Idiots teach even here in the Dallas area. Same school taught Swahili during Black History month because Swahili is culturally relevant to the achievement of blacks in the US. Whatever. I digress.
"Well, Baby Girl, there are a lot of people out there that think he has done a great job as president and believe that he deserves a second term. Those are the people he speaks to, so yeah, he expects to get up twinkles."
"Mom. Ya know what? I don't think he's all that great. I'm old enough to vote this year and you know what I'll be thinkin when I vote? Twinkle this asshole 'cause I'm voting for Mitt Romney."

Drudge is saying some victims were hit accidentally by police. After reading that, I am not surprised.

I don't really think so. He cocooned himself right away.
The fault is with Akin, not with people who didn't jump to get him out of the race. He's the one who is mentally ill. I think it is entirely appropriate (although I disagreed) to argue that he should have been able to apologize and try to dig his way out of it. He since failed miserably, but a skilled politician or one with a stellar record on womens' issues would have been able to do so.
The window was narrow but, let's face it, he can drop out now and he isn't.

Anything but a really cheap video card is going to be better than the integrated graphics chipset.
No need to spend a lot of money unless you're a hardcore gamer (there are a lot of decent cards in the $125 range), though I'd get one thats DX11 compatible.

That's dedication to herding cats there. The mental images that produces are priceless.

"So in other words, Obama just sees business as some kind of WPA project."
Uhhh...what's WPA?
But don't mess with us! We don't need all your fancy history-stuff to know what's best for our generation!

So, like, is the Obama administration about creating jobs?
