— DrewM Now liberals can love PolitiFact again.
Mitt Romney's claim in a campaign ad that President Barack Obama "sold Chrysler to Italians who are going to build Jeeps in China" earned PolitiFact's "Lie of the Year," the site announced on Wednesday.
Of course to do this they have to conflate two separate statements and ignore reality.
From PolitiFact's "award" (no links for propagandists)
"I saw a story today, that one of the great manufacturers in this state, Jeep, now owned by the Italians, is thinking of moving all production to China," he said, to boos from the audience. "I will fight for every good job in America. IÂ’m going to fight to make sure trade is fair, and if itÂ’s fair, America will win."Reporters mentioned the mistake in their stories the next day, it lit up the Internet, and the liberal cable channel MSNBC attacked Romney for not knowing the facts.
"His lie is embarrassing, frankly, and it should be unsettling for the rest of the world," said MSNBCÂ’s Rachel Maddow. "Imagine Romney waking up in the Lincoln bedroom or whatever, checking his conservative Twitter feed and running with whatever he finds there."
RomneyÂ’s campaign didnÂ’t retreat, though. It doubled down with a TV ad for Ohio voters that weekend:
"Who will do more for the auto industry? Not Barack Obama," the ad began, adding, "Obama took GM and Chrysler into bankruptcy and sold Chrysler to Italians who are going to build Jeeps in China. Mitt Romney will fight for every American job." A similar radio ad soon followed.
The campaign statement was based on an erroneous report in the Washington Examiner. Romney never used the "all production to China" line once he was told the story he was relying on was wrong.
The second claim that Chrysler is going to build Jeeps in China is true. Even PolitiFact admits that.
But Chrysler was thinking of reviving the Jeep brand in key foreign markets, and like other American automakers, Chrysler preferred to build cars in the countries where it intended to sell them -- a common strategy to reduce tariffs and transport costs.
In their original Pants on Fire rating for the ad they said this.
Bragman, the auto analyst, said RomneyÂ’s notion that expansion in China comes at a cost to American workers runs counter to the facts. ChryslerÂ’s Toledo plant is running at full capacity, and its Detroit plant is at three shifts. Chrysler is building cars in the United States for sale here. The production of cars in China is a sign of Chrysler's growing strength in overseas markets. It would like to build Jeeps in China to sell in China. It is not outsourcing American auto jobs.
This is the nifty little slight of hand. Suddenly opening plants in foreign countries is cool and doesn't cost US jobs? Why I'm so old I remember when Obama though that was immoral.
The distinction Obama and liberals are making is it's only eviilllll outsourcing (off shoring really) if a plant closes and the production is moved to another country but it's fine and dandy if a company opens a plant in another country instead of America (except when a Republican invests in that company, then it's evil again).
This is the intellectual corruption that infects the Democratic Machine Media.
By the way, here's my "Lie of the Year"
“We should ask the wealthiest Americans to pay a little more,”
Obama isn't going to "ask" anyone to pay more, he's going to make them pay more. Just try saying to the IRS, "The President has asked me to pay this higher right, I respectfully decline".

True Dat and except for a few notable stalwarts, the GOP is committing suicide as fast as it can. I am embarrassed that the GOP falls for every single trap the Left lays out for them. Once in a very great while, it would be nice to see Boner look up at the Acme safe falling towards his head and make a token attempt to evade it.

any newspaper editorial endorsing TFG for re-election. To posit that not only had Obama done a good job for four years, but was deserving of four more, was a lie so monstrous, so vile, so totally beyond any reasonable standard of human decency, that it must qualify as the lie of the year, if not the young century.

Speaking of Chrysler, they were forced to reinstate the "workers" who were caught getting drunk and stoned during lunch.
Keep that in mind the next time you're driving a Chrysler product and the steering wheel comes off in your hands.

Exactamundo and their favorite fool proof GOTCHA is the Abortion question--to which there is no good answer for a GOP candidate. I am in favor of a mandatory brain washing camp for GOP candidates, where they use aversion therapy to train them to never take the question, but, just give a stock answer, "Abortion is settled law. I do not discuss it, next question."

He's not making "the wealthiest" pay more, either. Their heirs may have to, if they're too stupid to set up the trusts correctly, but we don't tax wealth in this country, we tax income. Once you've got yours, you can fix it so you pay very little indeed.

Talked to the ex-gf last night, I almost convinced her to vote R/R. I asked why she pulled the lever for 4 more years of disaster. "I wanted to protect my reproductive rights. Romney scared me."
Facepalm and heated words followed (especially after '[Obama/]Clinton's done a good job internationally.').
Of course, she's a self-admited low-info voter. Maybe in 4 more years she'll be more open to truth.

A-effing-men, Drew. I had to shove that in the faces of a few lefty relatives over Thanksgiving. I followed that up with, "my wife and I make (figure redacted) a year. I want you to tell me exactly what the hell my "fair share" is. Money, motherfu*ker! Give me a number!"
Well, actually, I didn't say that last bit because Mrs P hustled me out of the room. But it shut those doucheholes up for the rest of the day, anyway. I'm looking forward to an encore presentation at Christmas.

I'm Barack Obama, and here's my entry for Lie of the Year. It was at Colonial, the twelfth or thirteenth time I played it this year - 4th hole fairway. My set-up short caught a tuft of crosscut, and there was this damn twig right up against my Titleist! But somehow I managed to hit a perfect lift, all the way to the pin - 7 feet away! Here is the opening sentence of the Bloomberg News article:
'Fiat, majority owner of Chrysler Group LLC, plans to return Jeep output to China and may eventually make all of its models in that country, according to the head of both automakersÂ’ operations in the region.'
Later:
“The volume opportunity for us is very significant,” Manley, who is also president of the Jeep brand, said in an interview at Chrysler’s Auburn Hills, Michigan, headquarters. “We’re reviewing the opportunities within existing capacity” as well as “should we be localizing the entire Jeep portfolio or some of the Jeep portfolio.”
So, if Romney says "I saw an article where jeep was 'thinking about' moving all Jeep production to China", is that a lie? No, not at all. That's what the story said. A GM exec is quoted as saying essentially that in the excerpt above.
Bloomberg article also says:
"Manley referred to adding Jeep production sites rather than shifting output from North America to China."
However, they just put him in quotes saying “should we be localizing the entire Jeep portfolio or some of the Jeep portfolio.”
The facts is, for Romney to say what he did was not a lie. Did he see the story? Yes? Did the story say that jeep was "thinking about" moving all Jeep production to China? Yes, it did, and the GM exec is IN QUOTES sayiing essentially that.
I would rate calling Romney a liar here as the Lie of the Year.

Wrong.
The exec is saying they will produce all Jeep models in China eventually - as local production in China. He does not say production in China will replace current production in the US of all or any models. Merely that they may eventually produce the complete model lineup in China as well as all or some of the lineup in North America. They will make the same model in multiple plants.
