Poll: Swing State Voters Take Dim View of Dim Vice President

What do we make of this?

In the 12 swing states likely to determine the outcome of the presidential election, only 40% of registered voters view Biden favorably, while 54% view him unfavorably. These numbers are worse than President Obama's who is seen favorably by 50% of registered voters in those same states and unfavorably by 49%.

...

Independents are also down on the VP, with 50% saying they view him unfavorably and 35% holding a favorable view. The survey found the same pattern with voters who are not strongly committed to any candidate, with 52% viewing Biden unfavorably and only 33% holding a favorable view.

Why should Biden's favorability ratings be so low, compared to Obama?

Wasn't Biden supposed to be the reassuring, charming one with decades of serious foreign policy experience?

Wasn't he supposed to make Irish Grandmothers swoon or something?

I would suggest something else:

It's safe to say you don't like Joe Biden. He's white, after all.

How much of the differential could that account for? Oh, probably not a huge chunk. But some of it. Some voters will say they have a high opinion of Obama, while saying they don't have a high opinion of the senile dolt Biden, even though they don't like either.

And on election day, those people will stop counterfeiting their actual beliefs.

If this baseless speculation is anywhere close to correct, Obama could be looking at a very short night on Election Night.

There are more than a few people that when asked about Obama will say they like him just because they think whoever they are talking too will consider them racist if they don't say they like him. I really believe this skews Obama's "favorability" rating quite a bit

That Hildebeast will replace Joey Plugs to become the first female VP, setting her up in 16 to be the nominee. She also may be able to open up the money spigots via Billy Jeff's supporters.


If he did this, it would be a desperation play, and would be seen as one. The only way it can be done is for Joey Plugs to step down for "health issues". Since he had the aneurysm, people would believe it and the media would sell it bigtime.

65 If the pollsters call me, I'm inclined to give Biden high fives all around. The last thing I want to see is him being replaced on the ticket. Even without Hillary, there are a few Dems that might be seen as an upgrade w/r/t independents or disenchanted Dems. Think Booker, Bayh, Rendell, etc. That could be the marginal difference in the election, particularly in swing states, if it's close.

It cuts them off before they even start. It makes sure that the focus and more importantly, the money, will be on her. No one else will be able to get the money because she is the VP, and that carries a ton of weight. Bob Beckel sized weight.

This I just do not get....Who REALLY cares what some dude on the phone might think about the way you answer a question? I will continue to say it and repeat it until every friggin' talking head on the right starts nodding along- there is no "Blue Wall" anymore for Obama. There are areas that are incredibly vulnerable for him behind it that we need to be aggressively attacking. Not because we will win them. But if he is stuck defending them, he can't defend weaker states. North Carolina is quitely being ceded away. Florida too (see the GS article in WaPo). You force Obama to defend Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, and the resources start drying up for small states where Romney has rebounded (Colorado) and larger ones which are drifting back (Virginia). Obama's big spenders are already drying up, Romney and the SuperPACs have not really begun hammering. Obama is incredibly weak with white blue collar voters who are RIPE for the picking, some of whom didn't even go for Reagan in 80 or 84 (see Western PA 80 84 88 92 96 00 and 04). Spend money behind that fucking wall, big money, and watch the states we "need" fall right into place.

Prior to the VP spot, Joe was nearly insolvent. 

He owed almost as much in loans as he was worth.  The house was in deep hock, he had lines of credit strung out all over the place, etc.  How he managed to get that fucked up financially after sucking down a senator's phat salary for 30 years is still a mystery to me.

The only thing I can think of is he may be a retard, and a cheater in college, but he's not particularly corrupt as a politician and simply never learned how to profit from being a senator.

She may simply be hanging around for the phat VP paycheck and retirement he'll get.  That's been enough to pull him out of the ditch over the past few years.

I think he'd drop-kick Biden in a second if he was convinced it would help him *and* HRC was willing.

As for Clinton's reluctance, she wouldn't do it just to help Obama. But if she became convinced that she could come off as the Democratic savior who then deserved the reward of a party coronation in 2016, that might work.

They have to find a way to ease Slow Joe out without its seeming like a panic move. If that can be done smoothly--and remember that the media will gush all over it--then it's a no-brainer IMO.
