I'd like to thank all those good Republicans who supported me in my last victory and ask them to once again to send their hard earned dollars to Massachusetts to put gas in my pick up.
I really really promise this time I'll vote Republican as much as I can, unless my staff say otherwise.

Ya know what went wrong with the R primaries this time? I'll tell ya what. It looked like whuppin Obama was a cake walk back about the middle of last year, and the "candidates" came out of the woodwork. Romney was expected. Paul, too. The rest? Bit players doomed from the start.
Think about it. If around April last year someone said Gingrich ought to run, you most likely would have considered that ill-advised given his "past". Who knew Bachmann? Huntsman?
Palin quit. The best of the youngsters, Rubio, Jindal, et al, decided to sit one out and here we are.
All the above is just my opinion and not worth much.

I'm not sure I agree with the Lohan comparison. I greatly fear that this is actually how she is when she's sober. Some UK paper had a feature on her going out jogging with her dog -- in shoes with a 3" heel or platform. Lohan is a tragic loss of beauty to drug abuse. This woman, I'm not sure there was anything to lose in the first place, and I'm not at all convinced that drugs or alcohol are a factor at all. If I had to sum up my impression of her, it would be "animated blow-up doll."

I have a different take...
The real big players know that Washington is not ready for the change needed to actualy save us... yet...
The next 4 years are going to be an economic disaster... there is really very little that can be done without fundamental change.... which won't happen UNTIL after the Collapse...
And who would want to be the President who went down in history as in charge, during the Collapse?
Which is why the Repbulican feild is so weak... its made up of those who don't get it...

That's a pretty interesting analysis, though the last part doesn't quite work. There are always those who will lust after Presidential power, whatever the circumstances, and whatever you may say about Romney, he's not dumb. Nor are the rest, really. Suppose the crash comes. If you wanted political power, wouldn't you want it right at that moment, when you had a chance to save the country? I would.
As for Rubio, Jindal, Christie, they're an awesome bench. But they're not ready yet, and they're wise enough to know it.

If anyone gives a shit, the dental procedure on the fiddle today was successful.
It took a bit of fine drilling and picking to get the broken ebony out of the tuning peg hole.
All that's left is finding a luthier who can re-fit the sounding peg back under the bridge. It's the piece that keeps the sound board from collapsing when the strings are under tension.

Problem is that whoever is elected will have to deal with the Congress in place at that time... which will NOT make the changes needed... it will take one or two more election cycles to weed out those who don't get the problem...
CONGRESS has the power to make the needed changes... yet won't because of the system in Washington... President, if he follows the Consitution does NOT have the power to effect the needed changes...

otherwise how do you explain the normally surehanded Packer receivers dropping all those passes or fumbling it when they did catch it?
You mean like when teams that don't make certain mistakes all season suddenly make them in the playoffs? A more cynical person would say the postseason is scripted.

I had a long response to this, but it got messed up somehow. So I'll say something more abbreviated: the sequence of events may not choose to follow your script, and your timing. At some point, our creditors will lose faith that they will be paid back. At that point, many changes will be possible that were not possible before. A Republican President, at that moment, would have an opportunity to do many great things, that Congress would go along with, for lack of options.
Plus, the Democratic Party would be on the verge of imploding like the Soviet Union at that point. If they can no longer tax and spend, what is left of their philosophy?
I completely agree with your despair at the possibility that the government's catastrophically profligate ways will be tamed in advance, but I do not share your optimism that that will happen if we can just get one more cycle of Congressional elections. I think it will take the crisis, and I damn sure hope that someone who understands the essence of America (hint: not the current President) is in charge at that moment.
