110 I've posted this before and I posted it again. There was a disabled vet from Iraq I who use to post here. I believe he even went to a NY moron meet. I think his name was Paul. He talked about sending an email to this guy walking to the North Pole and the guy emailed him back from the Pole. This guy was feeling depressed but the North Pole guy encouraged him to work out and continue with rehab which he did. He had just gotten a van equiped so he could drive it cross country. Anyone remember this guy? It must have been at least 5 years ago.

115 "Mrs. CoolCzech just made me sit thru my 1,000,000th episode of Law & Order" Speaking of tv shows that piss me off. I used to be a huge fan of the franchise, but they have become so clearly a means to promote the leftwing agenda of whoever controls the Law and Order franchise, that they have become about 90% predictable. Evil corporate guy, evil military guy, evil religious guy, evil right-wing politician, evil redneck, gun nut survivalist. I think that the Law and Order scriptwriters have a bunch of Microsoft word templates that they follow. Oh, I forgot the most predictable script template. You start out thinking a muslim is the bad guy, because, you know, we're all Islamaphobic. Then it turns out that he's innocent, and we're all supposed to feel guilty because we pick on the religion of peace. And those terrorists are just misunderstood or something.

Ya know what went wrong with the R primaries this time?  I'll tell ya what.  It looked like whuppin Obama was a cake walk back about the middle of last year, and the "candidates" came out of the woodwork.  Romney was expected.  Paul, too.  The rest?  Bit players doomed from the start.

Think about it.  If around April last year someone said Gingrich ought to run, you most likely would have considered that ill-advised given his "past".  Who knew Bachmann?  Huntsman?

Palin quit.  The best of the youngsters, Rubio, Jindal, et al, decided to sit one out and here we are.

All the above is just my opinion and not worth much.

I'm not sure I agree with the Lohan comparison. I greatly fear that this is actually how she is when she's sober. Some UK paper had a feature on her going out jogging with her dog -- in shoes with a 3" heel or platform. Lohan is a tragic loss of beauty to drug abuse. This woman, I'm not sure there was anything to lose in the first place, and I'm not at all convinced that drugs or alcohol are a factor at all. If I had to sum up my impression of her, it would be "animated blow-up doll."

That's a pretty interesting analysis, though the last part doesn't quite work. There are always those who will lust after Presidential power, whatever the circumstances, and whatever you may say about Romney, he's not dumb. Nor are the rest, really. Suppose the crash comes. If you wanted political power, wouldn't you want it right at that moment, when you had a chance to save the country? I would.

As for Rubio, Jindal, Christie, they're an awesome bench. But they're not ready yet, and they're wise enough to know it.

272 268 Problem is that whoever is elected will have to deal with the Congress in place at that time... which will NOT make the changes needed... it will take one or two more election cycles to weed out those who don't get the problem...

So... as he won't be able to fix things with the Congress which will be in place? I certainly would not want the job.... not until the FOLLOWING election at least... when you will have a fundamentaly different Congress...

I had a long response to this, but it got messed up somehow. So I'll say something more abbreviated: the sequence of events may not choose to follow your script, and your timing. At some point, our creditors will lose faith that they will be paid back. At that point, many changes will be possible that were not possible before. A Republican President, at that moment, would have an opportunity to do many great things, that Congress would go along with, for lack of options.

Plus, the Democratic Party would be on the verge of imploding like the Soviet Union at that point. If they can no longer tax and spend, what is left of their philosophy?

I completely agree with your despair at the possibility that the government's catastrophically profligate ways will be tamed in advance, but I do not share your optimism that that will happen if we can just get one more cycle of Congressional elections. I think it will take the crisis, and I damn sure hope that someone who understands the essence of America (hint: not the current President) is in charge at that moment.

287 "From November 2008 through February 2009, The Weather Channel terminated seven long-time on-camera meteorologists: Kristina Abernathy, Eboni Deon, Kristin Dodd, Rich Johnson, Cheryl Lemke, Mark Mancuso and Dave Schwartz. With the exception of Eboni Deon, all had been on the air for more than ten years. Three of them had been employed by the network for more than twenty years. In July, 2010, The Weather Channel terminated Bill Keneely, the last of the original on-camera meteorologists who aired on the network's first broadcasts in 1982."

"On January 3, 2008, it was reported that The Weather Channel and its assets were put up for sale by Landmark Communications. On July 6, 2008, NBC Universal, Bain Capital and Blackstone Group agreed to purchase the Weather Channel from Landmark"
