President Kick-Ass: "This Seat's Taken"

Remember when Bush indulged in tough-guy bravado like "Don't mess with Texas"? And how that meant he had a cramped, thuggish intellect and could only think in simple lizard-brain impulses and higher-primate ritual aggression displays?

Well, every time President Kick-Ass does this sort of thing it's just awesome or something, according to the press. Gone are criticisms that it's "arrogant" or shows an unwarranted "swagger." Now it's just Our Hero laying down a masterful challenge to his critics.

So, President Kick-Ass tweeted this, with the text "This seat is taken."

Nice Deb isn't so nice about it.

In the insular world of the hard left Â– this is thought of as a Â“deftÂ”, Â“snarkyÂ”, Â“cheekyÂ” response from an administration that has always been Â“adeptÂ” at social media.
To me, and I think a lot of Americans Â– it looks petty and narcissistic.

It is narcissistic. I also think it's a bit ridiculous -- it's braggadocio coming from, I'm sorry, a loser. When you've got a terrific record and everything you touch turns to gold, you can break out the dick-waving braggadocio.

When you're basically just hoping your employer will overlook your last three and two thirds' years' performance and let you stay on for a little bit longer... Well, it is, to put it charitably, admirably disconnected from the horror of the actual facts.

This sounds like Jason Biggs' trash-talking. Trash-talking is fine, but it sounds pretty silly out of the mouth of a shlub.

Now, after MSNBC insisted furiously that Clint Eastwood had bombed, they showed this picture, and they all force-laughed and force-laughed at how hilarious it was. So apparently "just a grin with a body behind it" wasn't funny, but this sort of idiotic 16-year-old trash-talk is the height of wit.

I think this response by Adam Baldwin is pretty hysterical. It's so... I don't know. Silly and to the point.

He certainly acts presidential. He could have done the same gag and made it funny, taking some of the sting out of Clint's remark.

24 I was on Twitter when that tweet went up. It was less than 1 full hour after the RNC ended, if I remember right. So less than 3 hours after Clint had done his speech. The fact OFA felt it had to rush out this pic of Obama sitting in a chair tells us all we need to know about how effective Clint was. Clint instantly created a powerful visual image of an absent leadership. 'Invisible Obama' 'Empty Chair Obama'. Progs instantly seized on this even before most Conservative commenters did. Image is THEIR whole thing, and they instantly howled with outrage over what Clint was doing. They are trying DESPERATELY to head off the launch of imagery & snark that's going to come at Obama inspired by what Clint did.

When the shoe's on the other foot they have no response other than trembling rage because they aren't used to being the butt of the joke. They don't know how to handle it. I think I remember, during the 2008 campaign, there was some event where both Obama and McCain gave comedy speeches, pretty much. McCain's was actually quite funny. Obama's fell flat, for the most part. He made one good quip about his middle name, but the rest of it was weak. He tried self-deprecation by joking about how humble he is, but it was lame and uncomfortable.

After all, these lefties always rave about things they consider "edgy", and Clint's performance was one of the edgiest I've ever seen.

Seriously, as a performer I thought he showed great courage, working on a high wire without a net. Watching the first minute or so felt precisely like that to me.

Putting the matter in the jejune mindset of the liberal, what Clint did was one of the coolest things ever to happen in American politics. This, I think, is what troubles the left so much; I believe it is causing real cognitive dissonance in a great many of them hereabouts.

Yeah this is going to be talked about for years. And I don't think the analysts and talking heads have figured that out yet. I think they believe it was odd and poorly timed, a bad performance by an old man past his prime that may have hurt the Romney campaign and embarrassed a legend.
After the election I think they'll be talking about that as one of the watershed moments.

Yes Toldyaso, no big bounce one day after the convention. I too am shocked that Romney does not have a 20 to 30 point lead by now. Given that Obama is such miserable failure of Pres. - every thing that he touches turns to crap, and Romney is a very intelligent man with the perfect skill set to solve our problems; what the hell is wrong with America??? How many morons like you are there? I believe America would be hurt, but could survive four more years of Obama. I do not believe America could survive the fact that the majority of our population is now stupid enough to give BO for more years.

This pushback against a brilliant performance was as pathetic as MSNBC skipping the minority speakers. It defeats the left's narrative.
