I tells ya one thing, I'm really enjoying all the open accusations of racism. Not that they're happening, but that they're overt now. I think it makes the Left look silly.
Only one of the two major parties still openly appeals to race for votes, and it ain't the GOP. The Right can win on race issues.

Whenever someone says Republicans are racist (yeah, we freed the slaves, our bad) I ask them one question: if somehow, suddenly, magically, everything that some say hold minorities back were eliminated, which party would gain, and which would lose?
Cui bono, baby, cui bono. And cui bono is no relation to Chaz, either.

Unsurprised that it is common to joke among the production staff and call us racists or worse.
I know some folks in Hollywood, who don't know I'm conservative. This is their tribal dialect.
We can't change their minds, they are unteachable.
So how do we destroy them?

See, it's BAD when Christie uses the first person when talking specifically about himself. But it's GOOD and LAUDABLE when the Preezy uses the first person to talk about how he did the gutsy thing and killed Osama bin Laden.

David Chalian got fired not because of what he did, but because he got caught. The laughter from the crowd is enough to show you that this type of slander is widely accepted among liberals.
It's hard to overstate what it reveals. He directed coverage not just at Yahoo, but ABC News before that. His contempt for one of the two major parties in the nation, and his stereotyped assumption about the party and one of the biggest issues in the nation's history, influenced countless nationwide dispatches for years.

Ifill should stand with Chalian - in the unemployment line. She should have been run out of "the business" after that pathetic "moderation" (LOL) of a Presidential debate when she had a book coming out. But, instead, she stayed on the propaganda rolls, being paid by you and me ... which pisses me off to no end.

So after a serious shellacking in the elections or box office, they'd change their tone, moderate a bit, cut back on the obvious bias. For over a decade now that's simply not been the case. They've thrown out the old lady and hoping to tailor their content to customers.
Hollywood figures there's enough money overseas to make up for enraging the richest market on earth, and the legacy media has apparently just gone insane, taken over by hacks and freaks that used to only find work in those crappy college alternative newspapers that have Ted Rall and Politenessman comics in them.

New Orleans is looking at another 24 hours of tropical storm force winds and rains. Assuming Isaac stays coherent. The eye wall is shrinking. If this storm was still over the ocean that would mean strengthening. Over land, Isaac's eye might be collapsing and turning into this giant clutter of rain and wind.

Not at all. Most leftists have no Good Intentions, at all. Either they are projecting their own issues onto everyone else or they are just being the despicable lying scumbags that all leftists must be to embrace anything about that leftist ideologies, since the bulk of leftism includes having to accept ideas that are as unnatural and as ridiculously stupid as anything ever.

A flood of FCC complaints questioning the renewal of broadcast licenses for the broadcast media. Build a solid case, present it, and keep working it through the system.
Its a long tedious process, but its one that WILL get the broadcast media's attention. They take these periodic renewals for granted. Make them have to justify them.
The print media can only be attacked by not funding them (don't buy their products) and via complaints to advertisers. They don't need anything like an FCC license to operate, so they must be starved.

The regressive push is actually to move AWAY from the standard required reading, which sets up what they derogatorily refer to as a "Western canon." "What makes Shakespeare so much better than (insert obscure foreign name here)? The implication is that Western literature and values are superior to non-Western ones! We must be inclusive and multi-cultural!"
You'd be more likely to get The Communist Manifesto or, even more likely, Mao's "Little Red Book" on a required reading list, specifically because they represent the NON-dominant economic paradigms in the modern world, rather than Western-style capitalism.

Any conservative not home schooling or sending their kids to private schools is part of the problem. Seriously. Why would you fight for politics at the top and continue the corrosion at the bottom?
Believe it or not, there really ARE conservatives out there who can't afford private school, and who can't afford to have one parent at home teaching the children instead of out getting a paycheck. It sucks, but it's true. That's why it's vitally important that parents pay attention to what their kids are bringing home from school, talk to them about what they're learning, and SET THEM STRAIGHT.

I'm a moron. I get to decide a $155 million school district budget. When the teachers union wouldn't give up its $2.5 million pay raise, I got to successfully argue to furlough enough of them to make up the difference.
Do it.

Even though we paid for the local ghastly public schools while educating our kids privately, I would not have done it any other way.

If you want to teach a child about the business cycle you should volunteer for junior achievement
http://ja.org/
I taught 3-7th graders the ins and out of business accounting and running a lunch based business over a 6 week course I volunteered 30 minutes every Thursday for for 3 years during the school year.
Business I taught them was Crazy Bread Sales, inner city, rural belt, suburbs you name it. We even had a Hispanic girl that taught it to English as a Second language students. The joy I got from this and the award for teaching Business Skills from my peers was what convinced me I might have been able to teach.

To be clear, if you want to home school, and can, and your local school is crap that's fine. My sister did and her four boys are now wonderful, intelligent men. When my wife and I bought our home, we intended to send our future kids to the local private school We checked out the local public school down the street, and it looked ok. (My mom taught in a Philly public school, I know what bad looks like.)
My point is, our response as conservatives to crappy public schools should not be to pull up stakes and run. The Left took over the schools legally and methodically. We can do the same. If an idiot like me can run for school board anyone can.

@312,
That is interesting. Do you mind sharing which school district? Just wondering because usually public school teachers walk a picket line before they agree to any cuts in their pay or mandatory furloughs. Sometimes it even takes a court order to get them back in the classroom. Maybe the teachers where you live are a more compliant breed?

Storm surge in Mississippi was 9.6ft at Waveland. But the winds blowing ashore are keeping the waters on the land. Might get to about 12ft on the Jourdan River which is the record.

We need a broad spectrum approach. The swinging of the schools happened around the school boards not because of them, they took the school boards over to protect and fortify their gains. Because of how the calender works we're looking at a 30 year turn around cycle minimum.

This is the only way to fight for the future, you don't win from the top. You win from the ground level, growing up generation after generation. Abandoning that to people you KNOW are openly hostile not just to what you believe but who you are and what you dream of is just irresponsible.
And as Somebody Else notes: the education is awful on top of all that. The system is broken, almost everywhere, not a green stick fracture, but a gushing compound fracture to the throat.

The dirty secret is that the problem with bad public schools is not, primarily, the school. It's the students. Or rather, their parents. Rather, their parent. The single parent who can't prepare the child to learn as well as other parents.
In our school district we have two high schools: one scores well, the other poorly. Everyone knows which one has the most kids from the apartments with the single parents. It's obvious.

What should you know? First, the nuts and bolts. Does your school district have regions or at-large seats and where do you live. And when is the next election. Maybe talk to those serving on the board and see if maybe they actually are in line with your thinking.
See if your local GOP committee endorses for such races. (Mine did. It can help.) See if you can track down the vote total for the last time the seat was up and how many you'll need to win. (How big the task is.)
Depending on how contested the seats are (you could just get on the ballot and win easy, or have to raise a few thousand bucks like I did) it could be a breeze or consume your life for a few months. But it will be fascinating.

Conservatives are going to have to do something anathema to a lot of our ideals and start funding and retaking back some of the foundations for granting scholarships to idealistic youth of our bent. I am not slagging our movement either, it is just that a lot of our old philanthropic work and institutions have been subverted. We need to remedy that.
I'd make an Adam Smith Foundation with a George Washington Carver, and Alexander Hamilton endowment if able and tie the award to essays on ingenuity, capitalism, and theory of Federal restraint in impoversihed/minority communities.

Oklahoma has one of the highest percentages of votes for Republican presidential candidates. I suspect a lot of Oklahoma democrat voters cross over and vote Republican at the top of the ticket.
Voter registration is strictly optional in Texas- you only have to register for a party for State-Wide elections. So the ones who do register as Democrats tend to be in line with SJL and EBJ. Barking mad moon-bats.

I'd rather not if that's OK. We're in the local news A LOT and well... Pennsylvania is all I should say.
In our case, the only reason we had the furlough threat available was because we could show the state that our enrollment had gone down in recent years. But that was a one-year bullet and we shot it. They are up for another $2.5 million raise this year, and their pension is going up another $3.3 million (that's the real killer.)
The union ain't compliant. When the contract comes up next year, it will be war. And I'm up for re-election then, so I could be a Bush 41 one-termer if they have their way.

Posted by: Christopher Taylor at August 29, 2012 12:59 PM (r4wIV)
But you're OK with millions being killed in a total collapse of the Republic?
That's what I see the stakes as being. I don't believe those babies will do any better under what emerges after the collapse, and during it the suffering will be horrendous. Apparently you believe the post collapse scenario is a better one than I do.
Can your family survive if the power/water are out for months/years? Can they survive if food supplies are interrupted because the power is out and gas/diesel pumps don't work anymore?
This isn't about some lofty moral issue, its about personal survival. IMO, anyone who has kids today in the dire situation we're in is a fool. There's a significant chance those kids will never live to see 30 or raise any families of their own.
This is no longer a largely agrarian nation that could suffer a complete collapse with relatively little actual damage. Our support/delivery infrastructure is rife with single points of failure.
