It's hard to overstate what it reveals. He directed coverage not just at Yahoo, but ABC News before that. His contempt for one of the two major parties in the nation, and his stereotyped assumption about the party and one of the biggest issues in the nation's history, influenced countless nationwide dispatches for years.

74 Journalists are B- students who spend their careers covering people who are better looking, more talented, richer, and more famous than they are. Many times their subjects are also far smarter than they are. The main function of the journalist is to transcribe what those more important folks say and do for dissemination to the masses. Just like anyone else, the journalist tends to enjoy and magnify the situational power the job provides, but in the case of the journalist the motivation toward envy is greater than in most.

Realizing the above explains a lot of journalists' professional behavior.

Ifill should stand with Chalian - in the unemployment line.  She should have been run out of "the business" after that pathetic "moderation" (LOL) of a Presidential debate when she had a book coming out.  But, instead, she stayed on the propaganda rolls, being paid by you and me ... which pisses me off to no end.

110 There was a time when the legacy media and entertainment community tried to tailor their content to the public's mood - they were always worried about some mythical old lady in Podunk, Nebraska and her presumed reaction to content.
So after a serious shellacking in the elections or box office, they'd change their tone, moderate a bit, cut back on the obvious bias. For over a decade now that's simply not been the case. They've thrown out the old lady and hoping to tailor their content to customers.
Hollywood figures there's enough money overseas to make up for enraging the richest market on earth, and the legacy media has apparently just gone insane, taken over by hacks and freaks that used to only find work in those crappy college alternative newspapers that have Ted Rall and Politenessman comics in them.

137 I think Ann Romney did throw some very subtle punches in her speech. I am the granddaughter of a Welsh coal miner who was determined that his kids get out of the mines. My dad got his first job when he was six years old, in a little village in Wales called Nantyffyllon, cleaning bottles at the Colliers Arms. When he was 15, dad came to America. In our country, he saw hope and an opportunity to escape from poverty. He moved to a small town in the great state of Michigan. There, he started a business — one he built himself, by the way. She really emphasized that "in our country" - she made it clear that though her father came from Wales, she consider the US her country. And I can’t tell you what will happen over the next four years. But I can only stand here tonight, as a wife, a mother, a grandmother, an American, and make you this solemn commitment Not saying that this was dog whistle birtherism, but she made quite clear that she was going to be the First Lady of the USA, and she could not be prouder of it.

206 So how do we destroy them?

A flood of FCC complaints questioning the renewal of broadcast licenses for the broadcast media.  Build a solid case, present it, and keep working it through the system.

Its a long tedious process, but its one that WILL get the broadcast media's attention.  They take these periodic renewals for granted.  Make them have to justify them.

The print media can only be attacked by not funding them (don't buy their products) and via complaints to advertisers.  They don't need anything like an FCC license to operate, so they must be starved.

Posted by: AllenG (Dedicated Tenther) Channelling Breitbart at August 29, 2012 03:54 PM (8y9MW)

The regressive push is actually to move AWAY from     the standard required reading,   which sets up what they derogatorily refer to as a "Western canon."   "What makes Shakespeare so much better than (insert obscure foreign name here)?   The implication is that Western literature and values are superior to non-Western ones!   We must be inclusive and multi-cultural!"

You'd be more likely to get    The Communist Manifesto    or, even more likely, Mao's "Little Red Book" on a required reading list, specifically because they represent the NON-dominant       economic paradigms in the modern world,   rather than Western-style capitalism.

RCP has Mia trailing by 15...though the last poll results they show were from June. Her incumby dem opponent is also outspending her ten to one.

Her money bomb today will certainly help...it's gone from 6k bux this morning, to 118k bux this afternoon. She could probably put even more to very good use.

Does anyone know if there are more up to date polls out there?

Matheson has goodwill for the family name + a huge political machine behind him; he started his campaign off a million dollars ahead. Mia has a lot to do to make up that gap, her race will not be a cakewalk.. But if there is a high repub/tea party turnout, and she uses the RNC buzz to get her name out there, I think things can swing in her favor.

When my wife and I bought our home, we intended to send our future kids to the local private school We checked out the local public school down the street, and it looked ok. My point is, our response as conservatives to crappy public schools should not be to pull up stakes and run. The Left took over the schools legally and methodically. We can do the same. If an idiot like me can run for school board anyone can.

338 I'm sorry about my tone on education, I don't mean to crap all over parents, its just... these kids are getting 6-8 hours a day of leftist indoctrination and you get them what, half an hour of real attention? You can't compete with what the public schools are doing. There's a REASON young people turn out such rabid Democrats and have such idiotic ideas.
This is the only way to fight for the future, you don't win from the top. You win from the ground level, growing up generation after generation. Abandoning that to people you KNOW are openly hostile not just to what you believe but who you are and what you dream of is just irresponsible.
And as Somebody Else notes: the education is awful on top of all that. The system is broken, almost everywhere, not a green stick fracture, but a gushing compound fracture to the throat.

The dirty secret is that the problem with bad public schools is not, primarily, the school. It's the students. Or rather, their parents. Rather, their parent. The single parent who can't prepare the child to learn as well as other parents.

In our school district we have two high schools: one scores well, the other poorly. Everyone knows which one has the most kids from the apartments with the single parents. It's obvious.

Let's see.   Millions of rounds  of ammo for the IRS, Homeland Security, Social Security Admin., etc., etc.  I'd say the SCOAMT is planning a ground game.

Oklahoma has one of the highest percentages of votes for Republican presidential candidates. I suspect a lot of Oklahoma democrat voters cross over and vote Republican at the top of the ticket.

AllenG,

Oh, we still have some barking moonbat types.....but they are thankfully in such a minority that they're not winning any major elections.

We're getting a lot of new transplants, though...because of jobs....not in the numbers that Texas is, but still, it worries me that it could cause some problems....if they're liberal.

What should you know? First, the nuts and bolts. Does your school district have regions or at-large seats and where do you live. And when is the next election. Maybe talk to those serving on the board and see if maybe they actually are in line with your thinking.

See if your local GOP committee endorses for such races. (Mine did. It can help.) See if you can track down the vote total for the last time the seat was up and how many you'll need to win. (How big the task is.)

Depending on how contested the seats are (you could just get on the ballot and win easy, or have to raise a few thousand bucks like I did) it could be a breeze or consume your life for a few months.  But it will be fascinating.

355 Because of how the calender works we're looking at a 30 year turn around cycle minimum.

Very true.  The problem is the Republic needs to be able to survive that long for it to happen.  If there's a total collapse, nobody knows what comes out on the other side.

357 367 PA,

Conservatives are going to have to do something anathema to a lot of our ideals and start funding and retaking back some of the foundations for granting scholarships to idealistic youth of our bent.  I am not slagging our movement either, it is just that a lot of our old philanthropic work and institutions have been subverted.  We need to remedy that.

I'd make an Adam Smith Foundation with a George Washington Carver, and Alexander Hamilton endowment if able and tie the award to essays on ingenuity, capitalism, and theory of Federal restraint in impoversihed/minority communities.

That's just me.

Voter registration is strictly optional in Texas- you only have to register for a party for State-Wide elections.  So the ones who do register as Democrats tend to be in line with SJL and EBJ.  Barking mad moon-bats.

359 Sven, here is a bit of history and heroism.  For rescues undertaken during Hurricane Camille without regard to their personal safety, seven members of the MS Army National Guard were awarded the Soldiers Medal.

360 That is interesting. Do you mind sharing which school district? Just wondering because usually public school teachers walk a picket line before they agree to any cuts in their pay or mandatory furloughs. Sometimes it even takes a court order to get them back in the classroom. Maybe the teachers where you live are a more compliant breed?

Posted by: Keep The Change at August 29, 2012 04:25 PM (AWxUm)

I'd rather not if that's OK. We're in the local news A LOT and well... Pennsylvania is all I should say.

In our case, the only reason we had the furlough threat available was because we could show the state that our enrollment had gone down in recent years. But that was a one-year bullet and we shot it. They are up for another $2.5 million raise this year, and their pension is going up another $3.3 million (that's the real killer.)

The union ain't compliant. When the contract comes up next year, it will be war. And I'm up for re-election then, so I could be a Bush 41 one-termer if they have their way.

365 Its easy to guess the most likely outcome though, based on the preponderance of historical evidence. It won't be liberty.

This is why I'm perplex by the SoCon stance.  They want to grease the rails by boosting the numbers of those who would hasten our demise.

Either they believe they'll be the ones wielding the lash on the other side and are OK with that, or they're simply blind to 5,000 years of recorded history.

We're just crazy enough to want to protect the lives of helpless innocent babies. The exchange of perhaps political gain doesn't seem like enough of a positive.

370 We're just crazy enough to want to protect the lives of helpless innocent babies.

But you're OK with millions being killed in a total collapse of the Republic?

That's what I see the stakes as being.  I don't believe those babies will do any better under what emerges after the collapse, and during it the suffering will be horrendous.  Apparently you believe the post collapse scenario is a better one than I do.

Can your family survive if the power/water are out for months/years?  Can they survive if food supplies are interrupted because the power is out and gas/diesel pumps don't work anymore?

This isn't about some lofty moral issue, its about personal survival.  IMO, anyone who has kids today in the dire situation we're in is a fool.  There's a significant chance those kids will never live to see 30 or raise any families of their own.

This is no longer a largely agrarian nation that could suffer a complete collapse with relatively little actual damage.  Our support/delivery infrastructure is rife with single points of failure.

372 Is it just me, but doesn't the DoJ position that having a voter ID disadvantages minorities sound like a racist proposition in that what it really means is that minorities must be too simple-minded to understand that they need a voter ID (after months of discussion about it) and cannot understand that there are a multitude of free outreach programs that will assist them in every way to actually get one of those IDs (the same type of ID required to get into DoJ buildings, the White House, buy liquor, buy tobacco in many states, or buy good cough medicine)?

Stupid is as stupid does; if "God's gift to political journalism" is so bone-warpingly stupid as to say such things in an environment filled with recording devices, then God must not love political journalists all that much. Which in turn raises my opinion of God even higher.
