Rasmussen: Obama 42% Romney 48% Me: Meh

Oh, and Santorum 45% Obama 44%. Romney has now lead Obama for 3 straight days, Santorum for 2. Still meh. Art thread later.

1 National head-to-head polls are virtually worthless right now.

Once Republicans hold their convention Republican poll will get a huge bounce and Vomit will spiral into despair.

8 Any polls taken before we have are nominee are pretty useless other than to demonstrate Obama's weakness.  Once the base rallies around a nominee, it will only get worse for Obama.

I am sticking with my prediction that Romney will be the nominee, will pick a popular, telegenic conservative running mate (like Rubio), beat Obama badly and also take the Senate.

P.S., He won't pick Christie because he is from the NE.  All you need to two NE'ers to REALLY turn off the south.  Also, women don't like Christie's gruffness.

Romney/Rubio in a walk.

Obama's done.  It's over.  His only shot is to refuse to accept the election results and go full Muagbe on our asses.

Which I don't rule out completely.

19 I have figured out a plan to get Obama out of office.

Democrats won't vote for a Republican.

Many Democrats don't like Obama.

So... when voting time comes... encourage them to JUST SAY NO. Tell them the strongest, most courageous form of protest is to NOT vote for any candidate and stay home.

Then, if Republicans come out and Democrats/ Independents stay home... O is hopefully history.

62 Not quite sure why head-to-head polls are any more worthless than any other polls at this point, at least if you're talking about somebody who isn't an unknown. Obama vs. McCain and Bush vs. Kerry were in the ballpark in November of what the polls showed at this point. They differed, but not by, say, 10 points. The one example everybody always brings up is Reagan. There was a Harris Poll showing him down 19 points at this point. There was also a Harris poll in May of that year that had him up 5 vs. Carter. Also, that was 32 years ago.

(Richard Murdock) Lugar is hurting for the first time in his career. Turns out.. he sold his house in Indiana when he was elected in like 1977. He lives in Virginia.. no home here and uses that address from 1977 to vote. He has only been back to Indiana a handful of times since elected. 1. Mitt is competent. He went into an incredibly challenging field, and was wildly successful in starting and re-purposing companies, i.e. making them work. And he made lots of money for his investors. THAT is tough.
2. Mitt is competent. He turned around a corrupt clusterf*ck Olympics.
3. Mitt is competent. While elected Governor of BlueMass, he was able to limit their wildest excesses and made the best of the corruptocrats he had to deal with (MassLeg). I don't like RomneyCare, but I am convinced that had he not been there, it would have been much, much worse.
4. Mitt is competent. He is able to formulate complex answers on the fly.
5. His opponent is the incompetent stuttering clusterf*ck of a miserable failure.
6. Is there anything else to add?

Posted by: Ducatisti, crashed riding 120mph for Perry at March 11, 2012 10:33 AM (mr/dg)

148 of course, absent from the list is the long checklist of conservative litmus tests like "solid on abortion", "solid on taxes", "solid on gun control", because he's not these things. If that is what you are looking for, then there really isn't a positive case to be made, other than Mittens has come around eventually (sometimes begrudgingly) to adopt most of the conservative litmus tests.

Now that's a good list. Stop trying to jam me into a convenient pigeonhole. The negative case is a losers argument, go around presenting that exclusively and you make Romney sound like a loser and we will lose in the general.

185 We should be wary of falling into the media driven fallacy that independent events must be strung together into a tidy narrative that supports an overarching worldview. Attributing Romney's success to the Establishment's machinations to nominate an easily defeated RINO lines up pretty well with what alot of conservatives feel is the ongoing tale of history, but just isn't so. Romney could have broken out of the narrative if he weren't as tonedeaf as Santorum or Rush, but we should be thankful he didn't.

Ha! So would I except I'm too cheap to have it in the first place. So take that, HBO! *shakes tiny e-fist*

From the Insty post lots of people who are dumping it cite 'political content' as the reason, a nice blanket statement that covers the idiot Maher and Game Change.

So you're relying on some secondhand information to know their positions. I don't know where they stand, I very rarely read either one. The better argument would be that they're damaging our chances in the general to no benefit, the same way that reflexively jumping to insults does.

238 151 "If that is what you are looking for, then there really isn't a positive case to be made, other than Mittens has come around eventually (sometimes begrudgingly) to adopt most of the conservative litmus tests."

One thing I keep thinking of is that the only thing Romney wants more than 1 term as President is 2 terms. On that basis, he will do what he needs to to win that 2nd term and if the base really has the numbers it claims to have, they ought to be able to force his hand on specific policy decisions.

The larger part of my social circle is urban pseudo-intellectual SWPL types, e.g. people who currently work at Bain Capital. They're not stupid and they understand narrow things like how to turn an individual company around, they just don't understand human nature, history and politics. They were already saying they'd vote for Romney over Obama in late 2009. It's not a huge demographic, but the number of people who need to be swung over to the GOP to take the Presidency isn't huge, either.

255 Meh? Why? What has the Democrat line been all during these primaries/debates? That the Republicans are 'damaging' themselves and 'embarrassing' themselves and getting weaker against Obama. I never bought that crap for a minute. Rasmussen polls REGISTERED VOTERS and LIKELY VOTERS. All the other polls you look out by ABC News, Wash. Post., etc. etc. are usually polling ALL ADULTS and weighting the samples to heavily favor Dems. to keep Obama treading water with a lead. 3 months of Republicans kicking each other in the balls and Romney has a lead greater than the margin of error. Wait until the convention is over and the Republicans unite behind one candidate. That's when Obama's desperate position is really going to be apparent.
