— Ace This contradicts most other polls, but I think it means something. Maybe Rasmussen is +2 points or so too friendly to Republicans, but even so, rumors of the demise of Romney/Ryan have been greatly exaggerated.

Romney needs to come out swinging again right now, dammit. If he himself and Ryan are going to hang back (inexplicably), at least they should be sending out surrogates like there's no tomorrow. Because in a sense there is no tomorrow.
And yes, we can start impugning the SCOAMF's character now. Do it, Romney/Ryan: you are good, and the SCOAMF is a sociopath, and that's that -- say it with examples out the wazoo.

1. As much as the left bitches about Rasmussen, its national polls were pretty much on the money in 2008 and 2004 (I'd have to go back and check the state by state polls).
2. Swing state polls, besides Rasmussen, seem to have been tightening lately (and it's not as though convention bounces in '04 and '08 disappeared in a week anyway).

Keep in mind that even if the poll you are looking at accurately measures the true feelings of the people that are sampled, they can not still measure turnout.
McCain was doomed on turnout in key States like VA and NC.

In 2008, Rasmussen's last poll predicted 52% Obama/46% McCain.
Gallup predicted 55% Obama/44% McCain.
Some other final poll numbers were:
IBD/TIPP - 52% Obama/44% McCain
Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby - 54% Obama/43% McCain
Marist - 52% Obama/43% McCain
NBC News/Wall St. Jrnl - 51% Obama/43% McCain
Pew Research - 52% Obama/46% McCain
Ipsos/McClatchy - 53% Obama/46% McCain
ABC News/Wash Post - 53% Obama/44% McCain
The election results were
52.9% Obama/45.7% McCain
So, if the left wants to bitch about that--um, okay, whatever.

I am getting a break on about half of my dividends now that will go away. I live off of those dividends. So after this year I get a triple whammy. My net income goes down due to a huge tax increase from both dividends AND rate tables going up. And on top of that the prices of everything goes through the roof because Obama made helicopter Ben throw out another trillion in fake money so help him try to get reelected.

I don't see how the Democrats motivate their base to turn out. The economy is in the shitter and now you've got Barry the Amazing Clusterfuck bending over backwards to excuse the murderers of his employees.
The embarassments are too many and too visible to ignore.
No way you flip Democrats because they're too fucking stupid to change, but I don't see how the more self-aware ones overcome their disgust with StutterForce One to stand in line on Election Day.
I'm predicting low turnout, not even including all the minorities I plan to disenfranchise. Even the douchebag hipsters will stay home. Because it won't be "cool" to vote this year.

LOL, I used to have a 20g pump it didn't kick too hard. But I did come home one eventing with a black and blue shoulder. Our town used to have an annual pidgin shoot downtown to keep the flocks down.
I shot probably 8 or 10 boxes of shells. I finally quit because my shoulder could not take it any more even with a 20.
The hardest king shotgun I have is a double barrel 12. The hardest one I have ever shot was an old 12 gauge Browning that a friend had. I don't what it was about those but everyone said they kicked like a mule and I agreed.

Eh, not that tough.
Take the 11 swing states - NV, CO, IA, WI, MI, OH, PA, NH, VA, NC, FL.
Give NC to Mittens, I think that is pretty likely.
Also give NH and PA to Obumbles, which sadly I think is also likely.
Even if Mittens loses FL, he could also win if he takes both OH and MI. Which is a possibility.
So I don't think it's as bad as you think.

The troopsÂ’ silence continued through several obvious applause-lines.
There was isolated cheers when Obama said his withdrawal policy would ensure “fewer deployments … more time to prepare for the future, and it means more time on the home front, with your families, your home and kids.”
The silence deepened when the president lauded his strategy of withdrawal from the war. “Make no mistake, ending the wars responsibly makes us safer and our military even stronger, and ending these wars is letting us do something else; restoring American leadership,” he said amid complete silence.
When he said demobilized soldiers would find jobs because “all of you have the skills America needs,” he got little reaction.
There was no reaction when he promised stepped-up recruitment of soldiers for police jobs.
He won some applause when he announced his support for soldiers injured in combat.
The most enthusiastic applause came when he lauded the soldiersÂ’ military mission, and promised continued support for that professional task.

Take the captured stray cats to the county pound. The county will make the owner pay to retrieve them.
If the pound refuses to take them, tell them the cat is damaging your crops, and you will have to drown it instead.
I suspect the pound will take the cat, and several $100 fines/ransoms will teach your neighbors to control their pets.

Too many CA slugs have moved to CO, AZ, and NV to escape the mess they made and are now making the same mess.
I know. A friend and I were plotting a few years ago about bolting a 4x8 piece of plywood to the "Welcome to Colorado" sign at the UT border, that said NO
VACANCY. But then we sobered up and the ramifications if we got caught would have pretty severe.

“I’ve actually read this in the American press; they said well you know if you take action that’s a lot worse than having Iran with nuclear weapons,” insisted Netanyahu. “Some have even said that Iran with nuclear weapons would stabilize the Middle East.
“Stabilize the Middle East? I think the people who say this set a new standard for human stupidity,” Netanyahu snapped.
He added that Iran has suicide bombers “all over the place” and warned that “since the advent of nuclear weapons, you’ve had countries that had access to nuclear weapons, who always made a careful calculation of costs and benefits.”
With respect to Iran, Netanyahu warned, “I wouldn’t rely on their rationality.” Netanyahu pointed to President Kennedy’s imposition of such a line during the Cuban missile crisis of the 1960s, a move that may have “purchased decades of peace” with the then Soviet Union.

I would still feel more comfortable with Romney winning Florida....blue states tend to have more electoral votes. Romney may have a lot of red states, but they are small the electoral count. But then again, I am not really up on the latest stats/voting trends. So I'm not the best judge there.

Leash laws here apply to ALL animal pets. And they are ALL enforced the same, not at all.
In fact, when I first moved here one of the neighbors had doberman that would get after the kids at the bus stop. I complained and got a standard "my dog wouldn't do that" answer.
I called the cops the next time it happened and they told me to shoot him. I didn't get to because the damned dog was smart and he would see the gun and run between houses.
A different neighbor who had two daughters took care of him one night.

Dug up every last bit of loose dirt they could find, since they didn't like pooping in the same place if they could help it. I watched all that new grass get buried, and the weeds took over again.
This fall I had to spend another $60 on weed poison, buy another $50 worth of seed, 3 more yards of potting soil, and this time three large rolls of burlap and a bunch of wooden stakes.
The burlap went over the new planting so I wouldn't have to kill my neighbor's stupid cats.
And yet she still had the gall to bitch about it. To the county.
Leash laws do apply to cats in most jurisdictions, but are not enforced unless someone's cat becomes a problem.

She has another dog and a cat that haven't been a problem. Just that one. She doesn't keep any of them on a leash or in a fence.
The other dog did get into a fight with another dog down the street. When a kid came out to separate them he kicked that dog and got bit.
She had to tie him up for 10 days and they told her if he bit anybody else they would put him down.
If he had bit one of my kids I would have put him down there on the spot.

Unfortunately, he was. However, so were a bunch of others too. Gallup was even worse.
From Real Clear Politics:
Poll / Reps / Dems / Spread
Final Results / 51.6 / 44.8 / Republicans +6.8
RCP Average / 50.7 / 41.3 / Republicans +9.4
Gallup / 55 / 40 / Republicans +15
Reuters/Ipsos / 50 / 44 / Republicans +6
Pew Research / 48 / 42 / Republicans +6
Rasmussen Reports / 51 / 39 / Republicans +12
CNN/Opinion Research / 52 / 42 / Republicans +10
FOX News / 50 / 37 / Republicans +13
ABC News/Wash Post / 49 / 45 / Republicans +4
To the extent this argues for him being skewed Republican, it argues for Gallup being even more skewed Republican, which I don't think anyone would buy. This doesn't absolve from getting 2010 wrong, but it doesn't really indicate that he should be dismissed in favor of others. Nobody, really got 2010 right (Pew got the spread right, but was still off in the final numbers) except for Reuters/Ipsos, which...I guess I should give Ipsos more credit, but with Reuters in there I'm just going to say f'k it and attribute it to luck. Because.

In one picture there is a deputy that has his hand on the man's shoulder.
That is physical contact. It is a physical statement that the deputy has taken charge of a prisoner. Anyone in that situation would recognize that "threat" that if he does not proceed where he is being directed, he will physically be taken there.
It's a recognized gesture used by police and prison guards the world over. He was arrested. Just because they allowed him to leave without being in handcuffs means nothing.
He was IN CUSTODY.
Also, the media was alerted to the arrest just so those pictures could be taken and spread. They also assured that he could not return to his dwelling (a fact I am sure was taken into consideration when the media was called as now no one can reach this guy and he's afraid to BE reached.)
I'm just surprised that they didn't have the TSA do the arrest.

Two things that are affecting the poll numbers...
1) People are lying to the pollsters...afraid to say they're voting against Barky.
2) Fewer people than ever before...have land lines. Pollsters are even admitting that this is a problem.
I would imagine that these two things were a reason why the polls in 2010 were off, as well.

Simple fact. Every poll is over sampling Dems. All of them show a slight Romney lead when normalized against a rational sample. However, if this election were to turn out R+2 instead of D+2, then Romney wins in a blow out.

Romney has a pretty easy path to the Bush 2000 states, and can add Iowa and Wisconsin.
Keep in mind, Rove is counting these D+ over sampled polls in his averages.

It seems...disrespectful...to have our military uniforms made by convicts.
Just seems wrong.
I wouldn't care if it costs more, for them to be made by other US companies.
I'm all for cutting costs.
But lets fire some fat-assed bureaucrats at the GSA....make cuts in other places....rather than have our military have to wear uniforms that were made by inmates.

Just sayin'."
And I'm just sayin that all of those examples are using bad data.
Let's go back to 2010. What was the most outside the boundary prediction for GOP pickups? 65 seats. All the "smart people" were saying 30 to 45.
What was the result? 65 seats. The rule of thumb is the most GOP leaning poll is most likely right. Been that way since 1980.

"Comment: One difference from past eruptions of Islamic ire is that in some Arab countries demonstrators not only denounced the US and Israel, they also denounced President Obama by name, calling for his death. This is the first time that anti-American sentiment was personified.
Readers need to know that these protests were uniformly anti-American. Equally significant is that local security forces were prone to not oppose the demonstrators in multiple cases."

From the stuff I've seen them blow I'd say its hyped enough. There have been some stupidly blown things. Like Seatle getting a 4th timeout. A block in the back being waved off. The play clock hitting zero and the play still going off. And that was only half of the ones that I saw while watching the games last week.

The hell you say.
I know rural people in three different states who no longer have land lines.
They are voting Romney.
Well since you trotted out some facts that are completely anecdotal I guess I should just admit defeat and save us both some time.
Surely we could agree on a couple of facts that might lead us to an inductive supposition:
1. Most folks that don't have land lines are under the age of 40.
2. Most folks under the age of 40 skew Democratic.
3. Therefore most folks who don't have land lines skew Democratic.
Do I know people who don't have a land line and are voting for Romney? Yes, hell I don't have a land line and am voting for Romney. Do our anecdotes mean shit when predicting the overall trend? Only if they confirm the data set and I don't believe they do.

(CNN) - Mitt Romney's campaign said Sunday they were calling off a planned rally in Pueblo, Colorado, as not to hinder the investigation into a small plane crash at an airport there.
"Due to a plane crash involving a small aircraft at the Pueblo airport that is under investigation we are no longer going to Pueblo," campaign spokesman Rick Gorka told reporters traveling with Romney. "We do not want to interfere with the investigation or any emergency response efforts."

Well just think about the hurricane response for further evidence. Once the hurricane was through and the convention over Romney went there. Obama meanwhile had to hastily plan a trip there after Romney beat him to the punch and had to cancel a campaign event for it.

Depressing talking to some independent(ish) Democrats today. The tsunami of negative ads Obama ran here in the I-4 Corridor have them thinking Mitt Romney is "evil" and "like Gordon Gecko."
Apparently our national debt is "no problem." I tried to explain the concept of Debt:GDP. And mentioned that we are as bad off as Spain. They found that to be fine as "We're not Spain." This confirms my belief that pride in the United States and our past history of being able to avoid the cliff until now has many people in the country thinking the ordinary rules of economics simply don't apply to us. If Bernanke doesn't seem to care, the MSM doesn't cover it very much, and the entire Democratic establishment isn't openly concerned why would ordinary citizens be any better?
I was speaking to an attorney, a financial advisor, and an accountant all the sort of voters you might expect to have second thoughts. Yes, that's not encouraging. I would not conclude Romney is going to lose, but it looks to be agonizingly close here. And of course, no state actually in play matters more.
Reporting on the ground from the Holy Swing State of Florida.

Nevergiveup,
Good thing Obummer gave the pipeline to China, won't allow drilling on federal lands, and isn't permitting offshore. Under ordinary free market conditions the US would be facing a huge oil boom which would create all kinds of icky high-paying jobs in petroleum and cause dirty ripple effects through the economy. If oil was good for the economy North Dakota would have really low unemployment. And since NBC never mentions it, that's obviously not the case.

What is your estimated breakdown assuming things go well?
Can't be better than 51 or 52 R. Not much breathing space. I'm a bit skeptical when it comes to statistical analysis of the Honey Boo Boo vote.

361286:
Posted by: YouDaManTiger at September 16, 2012 05:50 PM (Lq7d/)
------------
The problem with your 'inductive supposition' is the fact that there are more people over the age of 40...than under 40.
A lot more.
Which is why SocSec/Medicare is going broke.
And the original cell phone users are in their 50's, and over....people who have had cell phones since they were invented.
What we should be considering, is...that of the people who still have land lines...which ones are the ones who are:
A) Answering their land lines?
B) Not afraid to tell the truth about who they're voting for?
I would think that the answer to those two questions, would be:
Dem-voters who are eager to say that they're voting for Barky.

#504 Yeah, he was. But it's depressing seeing Obama ads and no Romney ads. TV reaches more people than personal appearances do. I don't get any notices of when Romney will be in Iowa, and I've contributed to his campaign.
Be that as it may, I proudly display my Romney/Ryan window decal in the midst of progessive idiocracy.

443, Beagle with all due respect I do no buy at all your spin on Independents on the I-4. I live right here as well and the reaction I have seen has been extremely positive for Romney. The Obama Ads...well there are now plenty of Romney Ads and Super Pac Ads. Indies I talk to are tired of Obama and are getting sick of the economy continuing to lose steam. Plus the price of gas going up and up. You talk to an Attorney and Accountant...those are DEMS TO THE CORE....Indies my foot! Not sure if you are real or not...but on this part of the I-4 Corridor Romney signs are popping up everywhere. My friends are fellow doctors, small business owners and sales people. So your story I find suspect. Obama ads have decreased over the last week in Central Florida and more and more Romney ads are showing! So Beagle does not speak for the I-4 Corridor!! Ryan was just in Oldsmar by Tampa and the rally was jammed!
MX....the most recent Ohio Polls are ARG which has 48/47 Obama and Ras 47/46 Obama. NBC oversampled Dems by 10....PPP had female to male 60/40 percent and oversampled 18-30 yrs from 2008 and Gravis I do not know much about! So throw PPP and NBC out of the Ohio Mix!! They are garbage....you show me where in Ohio you will have 60 percent female and 40 percent male...that is the PPP breakdown in their Ohio Poll!

Ace...just to let you know Ras had Republicans at close to Plus 4 in Registrations in Aug....yet at best they are doing just Plus 1 Rep in samples....if anything they are acutally undersampling Republicans....which I think he is doing to be more on the safe side. Ace never seems to have problem with the fact Gallup always oversamples Dems and CNN heck they oversampled Dems by 9.6 .
Why do so many on our side accept as Fact bogus Dem Polls with massive Oversamples yet they will QUESTION IMMEDIATELY if one Poll has a Plus One Republican? Now you see why Romney has such a fight...Not only does he have to fight the Left and the MSM....he is up against Negative Conservatives that fall for the left narrative night and day. Who would ever want to run for the GOP Pres?? It is not worth it. We are so quick to tear our guy down while the left defends Obama to the death. So many of us accept all the Left BS that they throw. No wonder they laugh at us all the time. We are never united and easily cut down...sad!!

Look, I don't know who this Lara is, but she might have some nice tatas.
... and a webcam.
So let's not get too hasty in running her off.
Now, Lara, honey. Would you like to show us your boobs?

"What we should be considering, is...that of the people who still have land lines...which ones are the ones who are:
A) Answering their land lines?
B) Not afraid to tell the truth about who they're voting for?
I would think that the answer to those two questions, would be:
Dem-voters who are eager to say that they're voting for Barky."
Loud and proud eh? I'll buy that.

Sorry. I have family in Fort Collins and they want me to move there, but I don't care for the tax structure or other leanings in Colorado. I vastly prefer Wyoming to any other state in the union.

"What are you talking about? I work hard for r & r in mi."
Implying that you are involved in the campaign in MI? If so, then you have insight into the professionalism the organization uses. Yet your first post ever is to express concern...
"Because this is my first post, I'm suspect? I've read here for 4 years."
If you have read here for 4 days, then you are quite aware of our opinion of new people showing up to express concern. If you have read for 4 years, then you surely recall Concerned Christian Conservative, and many others. yet you are surprised that you aren't given credence...
"This leak of a speech has me worried."
You said you work hard for R&R in MI. I don't work for R&R at all, yet I was fully aware that he personally wrote the speech over a period of 6 weeks in preparation for the convention, and that he went through numerous drafts. But since the process somehow escaped you, despite your involvement with R&R you are worried. After all, it it completely plausible that someone from inside a very well run organization is going to go to a media source who just last week published headlines that stated that Romney's legitimate response to the Cairo tweet was enormous news, yet has yet to mention that Libyan officials contradict the official White House position...
"I'm sorry coming here and saying so is suspect."
No it isn't suspect, it is proven. You are a liar. At least one of the statement above is a lie. The only question is which...
"I have a feeling there's more to this story than the average in fighting"
On this we do agree. And the rest of the story is that it is a dirty trick being run by the Obama campaign with the full cooperation of their house propaganda arm. I am also convinced that you are a paid operative who receives compensation from OFA to go to opposition web sites and post "concern" regarding leaked stories.

No problem.
Yea, if you are going to move to the Fort Collins area, you might as well move to Cheyenne or Laramie.
No income tax and almost comically low property taxes. Same weather. No hippies running things.
If you need to buy stuff not available in either, you can always do a day trip south.

All the concerned posters should get together and decide which amongst them is the most concerned, and just let that most concerned poster post all the concerns for everyone's benefit.
Otherwise I'm going to get concerned about possible infighting among the concerned.

It's not quite that simple.
Romney is in a bit of a danger zone, but not for the reasons commonly cited. Obama got a bit of a bounce, but not a big deal. It's being amplified by the "conventional-wisdom" media into some statement of the game being over just as it officially began (end of conventions).
The problem is that Obama's outperforming in the swing-states because he's invested large sums early on in advertising. He's running ahead of his national numbers -- he's in a false vacuum state. I assumed Romney could carpet bomb Obama in the last few months and just saturate the vote landscape, collapsing Obama back down to the national average or below.
The problem is Obama raised $100M last month as well. Granted he's got a burn rate like Enron's shredding room at 3am and his cash on hand is small, but still.
Strategically, Romney's best bet is maybe to lay-low as the world burns, see how the first debate shakes out then attack.
