Rasmussen daily tracking poll is by far the most accurate poll, first because it polls likely voters, it poll at least 1,000 voters each day (30,000 voters a month), and it has a realistic party ID breakdown in their poll sample. Gallup daily tracking poll is also accurate but less so then Rasmussen because it polls registered voters which tend to favor Obama by 3 points on average.

All the other media organizations polls are junk, first because each media organization only poll 1,000 people per month versus the much larger sample fo Rasmussen and Gallup daily tracking poll of 30,000 voters each, second because in these media organization polls they are insanely oversampling democrats, third in most cases they are polling adults/registered voters versus likely voters.

So in simple statistics a poll that polls 30,000 people a month (Rasmussen and Gallup) with realistic party ID breakdown is vastly more accurate than a poll that polls on 1,000 people a month with crazy oversampling of democrats.

That is because the other media polls are insanely oversampling democrats. Again the math cannot be aruged here. Each Rasmussen and Gallup polls 30,000 people a month with realistic party ID breakdown in their polls but each of the media organization (Foxnews, CNN, ABC/WashPost, NBC/WSJ, CBS/NYT, etc...) poll no more than 1,000 people a month with insane oversampling of democrats.

 

So to summarize:

 Rasmussen + Gallup = 60,000 voters a month with realsitic party ID...

All other media organization combined = 10,000 voters a month with insame oversampling of democrats...

 

The math is very clear: Rasmussen and Gallup are vastly more accurate...

Umm, no. The Gallup and Rasmussen polls are "daily tracking polls" and only use the previous 4 days, not the previous 30 days. Plus, having 30000 in a poll or 10000 does not lead to more accurate polls. What makes the daily tracking more stable is that a good polling or bad polling night is pretty much gone by day 5. With the non tracking polls, a good/bad night carries for weeks until the next poll. Also, the DTPs can make sure they have the proper balance in their polls, while the snapshot polls can't shift on the fly.

Watch the tracking polls, throughout history the Dems have always polled better on the weekends, and conservatives during the week. Some say that the reason why the Ds do better on the weekends is that 2nd shift workers get included, R's say it is because conservatives tend to be at church and with their families on the weekends. Since there are a lot fewer 2nd shift workers, the Republican argument is the better one.

If you look at the numbers from election day, the poll from Friday before the election is pretty much the most accurate. But the media loves the weekend polls because they will say that the Dem is stretching the lead or surging from behind, but come election day, the friday poll looks pretty good. It's why Rasmussen doesn't poll after friday before election day.

That is why there isn't the usual April-June bump in durable goods spending, people's tax return checks ain't what they used to be. Plus, many taxpayers now send a check to Uncle Sugar.

We're not gonna shut things down completely - for example, the oft over-emphasized issue of earmarks is not without importance in the corruption of legislation, as earmarks are the "horses" used in most horse-trading on spending bills - but by far the largest damage comes from rent-seeking and artificial industries.  Rent-seeking, as in having guvamint "regulate" in such a way that it helps you and hurts your competition (see Dodd-Frank, and a zillion other smaller absurdly disastrous "reforms"; artificial industries, as in 95% of "alternative" energy technologies (the misdeeds of the current administration are actually without precedent in modern times - Solyndra for example is an indefensible and outrageous thing that actually probably involves clear violations of law, not just obvious corruption and incomptence).

 

The US is so cretinized now in terms of public policy, economics, law, the constitution, and much else that every single "campaign issue" is actually a huge teachable moment.  And teaching these things isn't some quixotic aspiration.  If we don't eradicate the jaw-dropping economic illiteracy (key to the envy and bigotry that now dominate, incl. among some "conservative" types), every policy victory will be much harder, and probably pyrrhic in the end.  It's not actually hard to do - but most modern politicians are incredibly unable and cowardly, hell they can hardly be dragged kicking/screaming to challenge the premises of the increasingly delusional "journalistic" questions they get (if they're not part of the dumb/racist/fascist mess that remains of the "liberal coalition").  Ryan and Romney both have the smarts, Romney seems quite timid though as a communicator in general, whereas Ryan is clearly not shy about (correctly) lecturing his idiotic opponents when they are barfing up their typical nonsense.

 

For the moronettes:  do you think Ryan's, uh, "females looking close and shifting in their seats" factor will help him with some apolitical types?  Hell, for an older guy Romney is also one of the better looking candidates in a long time.   Both guys should surely appeal to the deep inner nesting and security instincts of the female population - sincere honest straight-shooting high-achieving good providers with beautiful family lives. 

 

Polling:  Slatz is basically correct, a survey's quality must be judged by its methodology and sample size and quality.  I believe Ras' ID weighting is driven by an ongoing large national sampling operation that updates party ID constantly - making if far more credible than even 2010 exit-poll or election data.  Don't know about Gallup's.

 

But as I've been telling many folks who ask for some time, an incumbent is typically very difficult to unseat.  But it does happen.  Always during times of economic distress.  And Bambi's approval numbers, as well as his head-to-heads with Mitt, have been screaming "incumbent referendum" for months.  Anything is possible, but just using the rock-solid numbers and long-established patterns of voting behavior and common sense, at this point the president has to be rated as 50/50 or more likely a bit less on re-elect.  Personally - barring some game-changing exogenous events - I think it's about 60/40 right now in favor of Romney victory, Senate control, and House pick-ups - plus continued wave of Rs at the state and local level in many states that didn't already do that in 2010.  That is, one of the 3 or 4 great wave elections in US history.  All the building blocks are there - and for those who look at the history of these things in some detail, that's not something you usually see.

It is fine to post and glean ideas from the great ones here, but everyone should take a personal pledge to go out into the blogosphere - especially lefty blogs and bomb them with facts.  It's fun, makes the dems angry, and I know from some replies that it has had a positive effect on some.  Not just the regulars, but they're lurkers who watch the debts and come to their own conclusions.  Sure you will get banned from some, that is part of the fun and you can then wear the banning with pride and rub it in the face of other lefty sites how they do not want to hear anything but the choir sing to them.
