— Ace I don't know what data we need to get these guys to make a major play for this state.
Only 2% are undecided in this poll. I suppose that's something that suggests you don't necessarily bother with a lot of ads. But GOTV personnel can be moved there, maybe.
Romney/Ryan are now outspending (by a fair amount) the Democrats across battleground states.
This week alone, Republican groups are combining to spend $59 million across 13 states. Obama and two other Democratic groups are spending a comparatively paltry $36 million across 10 states. Collectively, the Republican side has spent $115 million more than the Democratic side — $539 million versus $424 million, according to sources watching the advertising market.
But the big advantages in ad spending are in states we're now sort of assuming Romney wins (Florida) or where we already knew he was fighting hard (Ohio).
Not in Wisconsin.

I think Gateway Pundit has an article this morning on how white men are going heavily for Romney. This means Obama would have had a fantastic second term and the economy would be growing at 6% a year and the world would be at peace, but those racist whites refused to listen facts, logic, and Greg.

The thing about Ohio is that McCain lost by 205,000 votes out of ~7 million.
THREE Percent.
Ohio has sent out something like 800,000 ballots that represent around
ELEVEN Percent.
Because some people may not mail them in early and they have
to be crosschecked so that some stinkers don't vote in person and by mail, they won't be opened until November 17th.
Anyone see a problem here with a close election?

i THINK (ymmv) that what was going on in Libya was our people trying to get hold of weapons stocks left over from the fall of Qaddafi, and put them in to the hands of rebels in Syria. Of course, this is sort of 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend' thinking which backfires more often than not. The attack on the Benghazi consulate has the potential to blow the roof off the whole operation. Obama may find himself in an updated version of Iran/Contra here, and he doesn't want that, so they have to cover up.

As noted above R/R are paying attention to WI with visits and ads. Heck with the VP candidate and head of RNC from WI and with a successful governor race recently they know what they are doing
#37 agree a bit. If they start saying Ohio is Romney's O can't win and people stop paying attention. I think it was Rove who this week said internals show R up a few in Ohio and that R would take Ohio
Polls are polls. I'm using the anecdotal evidence - R going into more states, big crowds, O acting small and desperate, endorsements switching to R, etc as a better indicator.
#79 - good point. With the cautious businessllike approach R has next week could be like a guy who's already reached his goal taking a few long-shots hoping for a jackpot but knowing his already set

I think Romney is doing a rope-a-dope in some of these states.
Dems are good at early voting, and organization in general and very sgrong in tradional northern union Blue states.
Maybe Romney thinks by tipping his hat too early, he will just mobilize their sleeping giants. Wait until the last week, and let momentum and a sup-duper-major ad blitz carry over an extra 2% to 3% and maybe steal a MI, WI, PA before the Dems realize what hit them.
In the meantime, use all resources to secure FL, VA, OH and CO.
Seems like the plan to me.

I heard a nasty rumor that Obama meant for Stevens to be kidnapped so that Obama could mount a rescue as some Oct. surprise and then it went horribly wrong. I dismissed it as bullshit at first, but the more this coverup story comes out the more I wonder what the hell did happen.
It sounds like total crap but when:
(a) your ambassador's requests for more security are not only denied but his security is downgraded, (b) there are more than 30 people in the building, (c) the operators on the ground are denied permission to assist the people in the building and even worse told to stand down, (d) there was a drone in the area and the whole thing was being observed, (e) the operators were denied support twice;
it starts to make you wonder if there's any basis in the conspiracy theory. And furthermore, this is how conspiracy theories take root: debacles combined with shoddy investigations combined with a refusal to engage in discussion about the debacle or the shoddy investigation.

Romney's scheduled to have a big rally at the Wisconsin State Fair Park on Monday night, so he'll get a lot of free media in Wisconsin early next week, including probably all day attention from the local talk show hosts (Charlie Sykes and Mark Belling are the two biggies). I expect that he'll start a big media push in the state after that.
Put Wisconsin in the bank. The enthusiasm by Republicans in the state after the Walker recall election is sky high. It's going to build over the next ten days.

OK.... so.....
A US Plane bombing a country that we have NOT Declared War on, nor gotten any Congressional apporval for.... gets shot down by its Legal Government....
And its NOT NEWS???? No one TRACKED this STORY DOWN?
And the Government apparently was able to SMOTHER the story?
We no longer have a Press worthy of the extra protection we gave it in the Constitution.... and our Government seems to feel it is no longer accountable to the People....

IF.. very big IF.
If he can win Wisconsin, he doesn't need OH.. He can win FL, VA, NC , WI.. and simply take CO, and IA for the win..

198 I think Wisconsin is our effort to outflank them. While everyone is focused on Ohio, we slowly crank the GOTV efforts under the radar in Wisconsin and New Hampshire to win.
Romney is multi-tasking. They know that as of now they've got FL, NC, VA, and CO in the bank. That puts them at 257. So Ohio would be the easiest route to 270, but they can also get there with any combination of any two remaining states, so long as one of them is Wisconsin:
Wisconsin-Iowa (10+6+257 = 273)
Wisconsin-Nevada (10+6+257 = 273)
Wisconsin-New Hampshire (10+4+257 = 271)
Or, they could just use the Regular Guy's plan, which is to win a whole shitload of states, including PA, MI, MN, OR, as well as all the swing states, and then we go to bed early after throwing back a river of top shelf Scotch.
Whoopee!

Meanwhile Benghazi is really blowing up. It looks like Romney is putting Obama away this next week.
Posted by: TallDave at October 26, 2012 09:15 AM (/s1LA)
I think Ohio WILL go Romney, but when you have opposing billion dollar campaigns focus like a laser on a single state, anything can happen. All the other national numbers look great for Romney, I think the popular vote is in the bag, but Ohio has been VERY stubborn in the polling. I'm not sure any of them have actually shown a Romney lead ever (although I agree with people like Dave in FLA that the models oversample Democrats, but it's still worrisome)
If the polls are to be believed, Romney looks just as likely to win Wisconsin and he is Ohio, and the recent events there show Wisconsin has a conservative electorate that's energized and organized.
I just don't want Romney to make the mistake of putting all his eggs in one basket. The thought of Romney winning the popular vote 53-47 but losing the Electoral College is a nightmare scenario of mine.
Posted by: McAdams at October 26, 2012 09:16 AM (i7sIe)
Well, Ras and Gallup now both see the electorate at about R+2, meaning Romney wins by about 5 considering his lead with indies, meaning he probably takes all the swing states and a couple Obama leaners like WA/OR. If things break well next week, he might even take a couple states like CT that are considered safe for O, much the way O took IN in 2008.

Sorry, but Greg's right. We haven't led in any Wisconsin poll since August. As of right now, I want my money in the four states above, plus more competitive states like NV, IA, NH, OH. We're losing in the Electoral College - just barely, but we're losing. I agree with Romney's strategy - we've got to get to 269 electoral votes, and that's the most likely path to doing so. I don't want to screw around with pipe dreams like WI, MI, and PA. I don't care how much we're leading in national polls. I want a Romney win.
