Report: No Protest At Benghazi Consulate Prior To Attack
— DrewM

Like the ever shifting details about the raid that killed Osama bin Laden, the administration can't get its story straight about the attack on the US Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

First it was just a protest that gotten out of hand. Even though one of those killed observed one of the local "guards" scouting the grounds.

Then it was a "terrorist attack" but it wasn't planned, just you know, some terrorists who saw an opportunity, grabbed their heavy weaponry and just got lucky the Ambassador was there.

Now it turns out that witnesses say there was never any protests and it was a straight up attack.

Witnesses of last week's deadly attack on a U.S. consulate in Libya have told CBS News that the alleged anti-American protest that U.S. officials say morphed into the assault never actually took place.

The new details add to the widening rift between U.S. and Libyan accounts of the attack as Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is expected to brief members of Congress behind closed doors Thursday. On Wednesday, a top U.S. counterterrorism official told lawmakers on Capitol Hill that the assault was "opportunistic," but a "terrorist attack."

Meanwhile the Libyans say they gave the US three days advance warning that trouble was brewing.

So, who are you going to believe? Some ramshackle government or the Libyans?

Yeah, me too.

Added: You can see the video version of the report here.

CBS' conclusion?

"What's clear," the CBS reporter concludes, "is that the public won't get a detailed account of what happened until after the election."

And they're ok with that? Your Lap Dog Media in action.

The reason Carter lost convincingly in 1980 is that the MSM hammered the hostage story relentlessly day and night. (That's how Nightline, the show whose host has the big hair - got its start.) Every night: DAY 28: AMERICA HELD HOSTAGE. This went on for what, 144 days?

44 Well, according to Rasmussen anyway, NO ONE CARES.  The entire Middle East is exploding in flames.  The story about what actually happened with our assassinated Ambassador changes daily - and yet, Obama hasn't lost a single point as far as approval of his foreign policy.

Meanwhile another poll showed Obama losing 14 points.

I sometimes wonder if just guessing wouldn't be more accurate than all these polls.

Obama refuses to take responsibility for anything that happens under his watch and people are actually buying it?  The end days are upon us.

This shit has to end. And the best way is to pull all our people and resources out of countries that let their Muzzie hordes attack us, and let them rot on their own, unaided.

This video will surface at some point, showing the (now non-existent) protesters "helping" the ambassador to the hospital.  It will only look like they are sodomizing him and dragging him through the streets.

113

This relates to my list of 11 absurd things we've been asked to believe in the past week and a half:

1) Ambassador killed by "spontaneous" protestors with RPGs, mortars, and machine guns, not a terrorist attack.

2) "Low profile" security in Benghazi was OK (in an area where random people allegedly walk around with RPGs, etc), and in no way reflects on Hillary, who is responsible for security there, and her boss.

3) The Egyptian failure to provide security, which resulted in our Embassy being breached, is not a reflection on what they think of the US or its President.

4) The President is not responsible for embassy statements, even though representing the US is literally the embassy's job, and POTUS personally appointed the ambassador.  Obama apparently heads a different US govt than they do.

5) Crowds screaming "Death to America" in 22 countries does not relect an anti-American sentiment that would imply that US standing in the Arab world is the same as before Obama, or actually worse.

6) The existence of a short, amateurish, and obscure video clip is a reasonable reason for rioting, and said rioting is the fault of said clip's author, not of the rioters.

7) It is complete coincidence that it was 9/11, despite said clip being out for months.

There is a timeline for disputing US statements disrespecting free speech, and not following it is a "gaffe".

9) It's OK for the Pres to head off to fundraise in Vegas, and have his national security briefings mailed in, after the killing of a US ambassador, and during multiple attacks on US soil at various US embassies.

10) Bringing a guy in for questioning after midnight, surrounded by a dozen law enforcement officers and multiple news crews is a perfectly reasonable way to look into a sudden interest in possible white-collar parole violations, it is a complete coincidence that said individual had just appeared in the news for doing something that was completely legal, and it was no way an attempt to bully or intidate anybody out of their free speech rights by the very same authorities who are supposed to be defending them.

11) This is all bad for Romney.

As to #11, the bubble of fantasy surrounding Obama should be bursting after this astounding display of unseriousness and incompetence, which is at a dangerous level.  But I don't see evidence of that, so we seem to have a rather frightening Idiocracy situation going on here.

114 Apropos of nothing except curious' idiotic handle, I never seek peace as a goal. It's a shallow and thoughtless idea propagated by the weak. Anyone can have peace any time they want it through submission or the grave. I seek liberty. Peace is sometimes a welcome byproduct of liberty but not the goal. 142 Obama has to survive three debates with Romney. I cannot believe that Romney won't come prepared with an opening statement raising every single gaffe and lie the President has told and forcing him to answer for them. Given the media blackout on Obama's gaffes they may come as news to much of the public -- which is a GOOD thing because the discourse will shift to them. The media won't be able to block out that humiliation. Just bringing up and pursuing one of them -- "how could the president not know the amount of the national debt and demand an increase in the debt limit? -- would be enough to destroy him. And there are hundreds of them. It ain't over til it's over.

Not to overuse the term "literally", but this is literally an assault on the rational mind.

This isn't akin to BDS, where they got themselves all worked up in a tizzy over nothing.  It's been a lengthy string of things that aren't even political opinions - just objective facts - being ignored, invented, or denied, that only have indirect political implications.  It's not an argument about marginal tax rate, abortion, or a troop withdrawl.  If these things didn't reflect on their guy, these are all things a Democrat could agree with, and probably would if the shoe was on the other foot.

2)  They prove that they are above the common herd.  Sure, some knuckledragger might not understand the legitimate rage that a member of the religion of peace feels by being disrspected but they do.  They know more and are more moral than us worker bees.  See Andrea Mitchell.

I honestly believe the tactic of this administration is to bombard the electorate with sooooo much shit (that taken alone is enough for impeachment) and it creates a spinning effect and the average joe throws up their hands and walks away disgusted.

177 @138. I think it is a variation of the battered wife syndrome. The media fell in love with an empty suit who promised them the moon and swore he loved them back and somthey dutifully and figuratively married the guy and declared their undying love openly, repeatedly and shamelessly. Now, even though Obama is beating the crap out of America with his ineptitude, incompetence and overall suckitude, the media cannot allow themselves to believe that is actually happening, first, because they were too stupid/duped to see it coming and second because they still love the guy and they have to believe him when he says he will change (in this case, change back) to the golden boy they fell in love with in the first place. That, and having set themselves up as the arbiters of all that is true, they simply cannot admit they were wrong.

183 Obama has to survive three debates with Romney.

That's so funny.  There will not be three presidential debates.  He'll get out of at least one, guaranteed.  Remember that the schedule was the same for Carter/Reagan and Carter only did the last one (the "there you go again" debate).

I actually thought he'd skip the first on domestic policy (read: the economy) and go to the townhall and to the one on foreign policy, but he doesn't want foreign policy either.

Look for a "national emergency".  He may just skip it, citing issues with the rules.

Frankly, I think they'll all be a huge joke.  The media, including these uber-biased moderators are willing to kill whatever reputation they have left in order to try to elect Obama.  They won't be subtle.

I cannot believe that Romney won't come prepared with an opening statement raising every single gaffe and lie the President has told and forcing him to answer for them.

I do believe he'll do a decent to good job, but let's look at what happened over the past couple of days: Obama's had gaffes on Egypt being an ally, not knowing the debt was $16trillion (As you mentioned. We all know that was a lie, but I don't want to give him credit for the lie.) and a few other small ones I can't recall.

But they weren't gaffes because the MSM didn't call them gaffes.  At the same time, if Romney doesn't have a memorable line a la Reagan, he'll be said to have "lost" the debate or "not done what he had to" and people are really into buying spin these days.

Given the media blackout on Obama's gaffes they may come as news to much of the public -- which is a GOOD thing because the discourse will shift to them.

If Romney has a good line, they will have to do it, but it has to be soundbyte-worthy.

244 It would take a simultaneous bombing of three US embassies and dozens of US citizens dead to get Susan Rice back on those same four Sunday morning channels before 11/6. And if she appeared, not one reporter would revisit the Libyan event. The MFM is going for the win, and nothing will stop them. No news event, no how. Just "bad Romney" 24/7.

Okay, here's a question for y'all.   Head over to Drudge and look at the picture he's got there of Holder sitting under the seal for the "Arab Forum for Asset Recovery."   BTW, I like that Holder even attended such a thing, but whatever.   My point is, the seal includes some Arabic writing   in the center    (with the gavel)      that's positioned square above Holder's head.

Look at that picture for a minute.   Maybe squint a little.

Am I alone in thinking that the Arabic script resembles a pair of testicles hovering over Holder's head in preparation for an epic teabagging?

3 debates of Romney vs Obama and the Moderator

Moderator Jim Lehrer of PBS. The candidates "are expected to spend half their first debate talking about the U.S. economy, the moderator said. The second half of the 90-minute debate Oct. 3 is expected to focus on "health care, the role of government, and governing," said Lehrer.

The economy gets one-half of one debate? Not cool, bro. And why healthcare AND the role of government? Why not just "the role of government"? I know health care is a growing part of goverment, but that's part of the "role of government" debate. Carving it out is pro-Dem.

It is as if a billion souls have been turned into these marionettes, the traditional dolls that are held straight up and made to perform intended moves by playing the strings. The strings are managed by the controller, appropriately called the “manipulator”. It has never happened in human history that so few, with no talent, skill or good sense to speak of, can manipulate the lives of billions with their feckless actions."

Of course, there's always The Wizard of Oz, "PAy no attention to that man behind the curtain!"

Most recently, I keep seeing a commercial for a movie called "The Master", where I guy (who I think is talking to the master) screams at the end "Just tell me something that's TRUE!!!"  I think it's about a cult, so maybe this latest one sums it up the best.

The thing to remember here is that it is all irrelevant.

It doesn't matter if there was a mob there or not.  Protesters don't have RPGs.

Even if there were protestors RPGs, in this sort of fantasy world they suggest, then you have to ask why security was so minimal that even a few protesters were able to get to our ambassador and kill him.

This is one of the most dangerous places in the world, and Hillary decided that a low profile was a good idea.  It's a complete indictment of their "Obama has declared that he, the Messiah himself, is willing to LISTEN to them, and so therefore, they shall be glad and honor us."  If that sounds a bit snarky, the scary part is that it's really pretty much how they look at it.

304 Tensions between Israel and the current U.S. administration further deteriorated last week when President Barack Obama refused to meet with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu during his upcoming visit to New York, where he will address the UN General Assembly. The White House insisted that the meeting would not take place due to the president’s pressing “campaign obligations” which would take him out of New York. Obama has further snubbed Israeli leaders by refusing to meet with Defense Minister Ehud Barak, who will also be in New York next week, WND news station reported. Barak is scheduled to attend the 2012 Clinton Global Initiative, an annual summit of high-powered political and business leaders scheduled to overlap with the U.N. General Assembly. While the President has not cited any pressing “campaign obligations” that would take him out of New York during Barak’s visit, he has, nonetheless, refused a meeting, WNDreported. While Obama will not meet any Israeli leader during their visits to New York, he will, however, find time to meet with Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi. The president is also expected to meet Libya’s new prime minister, Mustafa Abushugar, though the meeting has not yet been announced. HEY LIBERAL JOOOS WAKE UP

Also, responding to myself here, it doesn't even look like just testicles.  It looks like SWEATY testicles.   Sweaty, dangling balls just waiting to be dipped into Holder's mouth like    pudding after election    day.

I find this optic humorous.

319 Via Rep. Allen West: It was George Santayana who stated, “Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” This maxim reigns ever true when we assess the current situation in Libya and Egypt. History taught us from the Carter administration that when you depose a leader in the Middle East you must prepare for who fills the void. Today, we find out radical Islamists stand ready to exploit the gap created. A crazed, maniacal, barbaric, and determined genie is out of the bottle…having nothing to do with a stupid Facebook video. This does however have everything to do with a naïve and failed policy of appeasement, reminiscent of Sir Neville Chamberlain. That is why you MUST study history.

@119

Yes, it's interesting that nobody talks about the 2 SEALs as though they were part of the security there.  And they shouldn't.  SEALs do jobs for the CIA all the time, and certainly a consulate could be involved with that.  Whether SEAL or ex-SEAL, they would have been there because of their involvement in intelligence.

I suppose they might have been able to help out with defense of the consulate, if they were armed, but that wouldn't be what they were there for, and they would have been too outgunned and outnumbered, obviously.

example: I am a recent college graduate, what are you going to do to help me pay my college loans and get a job?

When Romney and Ryan had their Town Hall meeting here in NH at St. Anselm's back in August, one of the young women in the audience asked essentially this question.   She was a Romney supporter, but she said, "I know i'm going to have a lot of debt, as are a lot of my fellow college students.  What if anything do you plan to do to help us?"

R&R's combined response was:

1) Stimulate the economy so that new graduates can find jobs that will allow them to pay their loan debt; and

2) Do whatever is possible to combat the unsustainable,    meteoric rise in the cost of tuition;  and

3) Romney said, very clearly, that he could not and would not cancel student loan debt.

So that particular question has an answer standing by.

I've got a random HD antenna from Target that stays unplugged Monday-Saturday. It worked better in Milwaukee than in the Indy exurbs...the local CBS affiliate's signal is weak (NBC is OK and FOX is very strong).  You may want to do a dry run before committing.

For streaming I use Netflix and YouTube.  Caveat: I do not keep up with current TV, since a) it's all crap and b) the thing or two that isn't crap is more enjoyable when you can tear through a whole season in a week. If you really really really need to talk about a non-over-the-air show the morning after it airs, this might not be for you.

It aint just about folks of Jewish faith. The left has totalitarian designs and will sell out any group in their "coalition" in order to achieve them. Anarchists, lefty libertarians, women, and homosexuals, along with Jews, need to wake up and realize that the Left sees Radical Islam as the Perfect theological foundation for a totalitarian new world order, in that it doesn't tolerate dissent at any level. And they are more than willing to sell out the all the aforementioned groups in order to achieve the homogeneity and control over the populace that radical Islam promises. With radical Islam, the sheep need no constant Shepherd, for the most part they will herd themselves. If that means full Burqa and sub-human status for women so be it. If that means homosexuals get executed with the Christians, Jews, and Atheists, and other undesirables who won't get with the program, so be it. They've got there omelet to make and some assembly is required.

They've done it every single time after the revolution. *every*single*time*; they've turned on the inconvenient allies and executed them.

I went with a digital antenna in the house, but I could probably put one in the attic, eventually, to feed the whole house.  I get pretty decent reception and about 20 or so channels including CBS/NBC/FOX/ABC, public television, and a bunch of other lesser stations.  As pointed out, there are many sports broadcasts on the networks, I am just not much of a fan of televised sports (but my brother is), so I can't say how much I would miss it.

Holy crap. That's funny.

Two pull quotes:

"Is this an upbeat human-interest story about a 'day in the life' of a bloodthirsty president who likes to kill people? Or is it more of an examination of how Obama's unusual upbringing in Hawaii helped to shape the way he would one day viciously butcher two helpless citizens in their own home?"

"Or maybe the story is just that murder is cool now," Kaplan continued. "I don't know. There are a million different angles on this one."

and...

"President Obama's letter presents us with a classic journalistic quandary," executive editor Bill Keller said. "If we print it, then we're giving him control over the kinds of stories we choose to run. It would be an acknowledgment that we somehow give the nation's commander in chief special treatment."

Added Keller, "And that's just not how the press in this country works."
