— Ace By the way, it was $500 billion, but I guess another $200 billion came from the sequestration as part of the debt-ceiling deal? I guess that's how it became $700 billion.
Anyway, Republicans are not going to let Democrats MediScare without noting, over and over again, that Obama chopped $700 billion out of Medicare, but simultaneously wants to run as the guy who will fight for every dime.

One other thing we need to hit back on. The internet is flooded with articles stating Ryan lived on SS Survivor benefit payments to his mother when his father died. All true. But in the next breath they say those are the very benefits he wants to do away with. Ryan's SS reform plan left Survivor Benefits and Disability untouched. That needs to be strewssed over and over.

That's not the argument. The argument is that the Democrats insist that the GOP wants to slash spending in entitlements AS THEY DID EXACTLY WHAT THEY ACCUSE THE GOP OF DOING.
Which is why the left wants this to be kept out of the public eye.

...
the federal government will devote about $500 billion less to Medicare
At this point, you're just quibbling over semantics.
And as Christopher Taylor points out, it's a red herring anyhow. You're missing Lowry's point entirely.

I can't deny that it will do more, but that "more" is almost all bad. More bureaucracy, more big government, more cost, more shortages, more waste, more fraud, more duplication. Better health care? Lower costs? Not so much. But definitely more.
Posted by: Christopher Taylor at August 12, 2012 10:16 AM (r4wIV)
Bwahahahahah! There's $500 billion in fraud and overpayment in the Medicare system already? Gee, that is a good argument for more government-run health care.
On the other hand, the Dem's admitted to double counting the $500 billion.
"The actuary also previously confirmed that the Medicare reductions in Obamacare “cannot be simultaneously used to finance other federal outlays and to extend the [Medicare] trust fund” solvency date – rendering dubious any potential claims that Obamacare will extend Medicare’s solvency. As Speaker Pelosi admitted last year, Democrats “took a half a trillion dollars out of Medicare in [Obamacare], the health care bill” – and you can’t improve Medicare’s solvency by taking money out of the program."
Proggy, there's a reason why telling the truth is the best policy. You don't get caught up in successive lies.

Whether or not something else takes up the slack or things are handled better is irrelevant. The GOP plans always have a better way offered, but you on the left don't care, all you do is scream CUTS!!!! hoping that scares enough voters to help you win.

Posted by: Albie Damned at August 12, 2012 10:20 AM (Yhu4q)
The voucher system he wants to turn medicare into reduces benefits for future seniors. As future seniors grow older, they will have to come out of pocket more and more to pay for their health benefits.
Sounds like a GREAT plan! Becasue then the Feds will be taking less out of MY POCKET to pay for those future benefits.

" Benefits are actually increased."
What world are you liviing in? we will be 25 trillion in debt by 2016, these "benefits" only come throught 1) higher taxes 2)more debt or 3)more money printing. Not one of them is good in a contracting economy. I own a business, I've seen first hand, revenues are down, people are scared stiff to hire, expand.
SS, and Medicare are now slowly in the red, benefits will start contracting, how do you think Medicare works? A senior has to call up docs, hospitals to see who will accept medicare, not every doctor does, with 700 billion in cuts to Medicare, less and less doctors, hospitals will be accpeting medicare, what happens then? Less choices, more wait time, essentailly rationing.
We don't live in a fairytale world where benefits are "free", there is no "free" thing, someone is paying for it, and with a debt reaching 25 trillion, those benefits are going to get slashed even more, doesn't matter what Barry and his liars spew out, math still applies, the 2 sides of an equation have to add up, and when value of one side of the equation goes down, so does the value of the other side.

It doesn't matter what blah-blah you utter about how Obamacare is all puppies and unicorns and how great it will be, just you wait and see! Obama cut $700bln from Medicare.
That's it. That's the truth. You see, when Republicans try to explain how they both aren't cutting Medicare fur current seniors and are trying to restructure it for the future, we get Mediscare from the Dems.
How do you like it?
Romney, though, is undertaking a stroke of genius here. The Dems can only attack Ryan one way -- on budgets. Because that's all he is. And it forces the conversation back to the economy. No more distractions with Paul Ryan in the race.
And they can't resist Mediscare. It's their elephant gun.

All of #83 was a brilliant distillation, but let me focus on this.
This is what they actually believe. They believe that bureaucrats, having no profit motive, are intrinsically better and will produce a fairer solution than the market. In fact, they never see a market, they see a conspiracy. Companies don't compete against each other to please their fellow man, they're all fatcats in suits who all hang around the table trying to figure out how to screw you.
We aren't talking about DMV-type bureaucrats, though -- and that's bad enough. We're talking about cronies, the kind we've come to expect from the Obama administration. These are uber-bureaucrats, think Jamie Gorelick.

Oddly enough the only part of Medicare to be at least temporarily under budget was Bush's part D.

More of this. You take those facts and make them eat it.
modify the rebuttal from "Romney is at the top of the ticket" to "neither man wants to see current recipients cut" and we have a winner....
No. Keep saying "Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong." Until she takes a fucking breath and then say "It doesn't cut ANY benefits for anyone currently on Medicare or that will BE on Medicare in the next ten years."
"Stop lying. Stop Lying. Rachel, stop lying. Why do you lie so much. You're lying. You're lying. You're lying."
I fucking LOVE election season. Especially when you have some Republicans who aren't afraid to knee Maddow in his balls like they're stretching new carpet.

This is something that needs to be hammered home. There is clear precedent that there is no guarantee of any payment of government benefits. SS and Medicare could be completely eliminated tomorrow and there would be no right by anyone to sue to get "their" money back.
There is no bank account for "Jane Q. Public's Social Security". There is no lockbox in which the SS money that's taken out of my check is placed for my future use. Ask the Delphi retirees exactly how much we should trust that the US government will keep promises.

The VA decided that they really were under no obligation to give veterans free medical care for their entire life. Naturally the veterans sued, one of the Swiftboat guys lead the suit. His name is George 'Bud' Day and he has this bauble called the Medal of Honor earned for trying to escape and when the North Vietnamese tortured him with such marvelous inventions as a rubber hose across the rear cheeks until that flesh looked like raw hamburger.
They showed in court copious amounts of literature documenting where the various military branches did promise veterans free medical care. The government of course argued that 'no we never really promised that.' The court system believed the government and ruled in their favor.
So remember what the Government promises to offer it can just as easily renege on.

In government insurance there is no contract, only a goal.
The government will deny you a medical product or service on the grounds the cost will exceed the benefit.
The cost to the hive and the benefit to the hive, that is.

Friend of mine works as a paramedic. She recently got a new partner who had recently moved from California. The new partner was jazzed because she was expecting a $1500 check from California for her tax returns. The state had issued her an IOU prior to her moving. Being the cynic I am, I told her, "you just watch, Cali will come up with some BS about you owing back taxes and you'll get nothing." "Oh no" she said disbeliving. A month later she got notification from Cali that they had looked into her taxes and saw that she owed them back taxes to the tune of $1500.

No. 700 Billion was cut from Medicare to pay for a new entitlement -- ObamaCare, which has unlimited funds (subsidizing everything and anything for people with no insurance), so yes, it increases govt spending by trillions.
Both arguments are 100% correct. You're cutting from one popular entitlement to massively expand a new unpopular entitlement.

You have to twirl them into knots using their own world view. I can't quite manage with a straight face or anything like Ace/Iowahawk-like language. But:
"BigJesusBoy as a moniker? Really? We've been repeatedly taught by the allies of the Left that the proper response to the malicious usage of any of our prophet's names is honestly beyond hate speech and a reasonable rationalization of completely bestial behavior. So please assure me that your usage is because you actually -believe-, or accept the label of "hater" gracefully. We should probably make sure you're aware as part of full disclosure that IPs -are- tracked and the vast majority of people present here are armed. And a fair number are angry. Just so you know.
"Big" is also offensive. Since you're obviously unaware, I'll take this opportunity to tell you America has an obesity epidemic, and it happens to afflict the demographics most attached to the Democrats for some reason. So it's quite insensitive to continue propagating as positive any aspect of "big".
"Boy" is also unnecessarily offensive. Untrue sexist diminutives are forbidden. Duh. Unless, of course, you -are- a boy, in which case you need to check out Harry Reid's Senate page program. He likes bent pages I hear.

I did NOT know this. This is outrageous! Who put this exclusion into this bill, and why? What reason was given?

It is hard to figure out who put it in there and we are a captive audience so nobody even said "why"....

now "to be fair" we CAN pay a spare 2400 per child to get coverage
however
The Military Officers Association of America is reporting that Defense Department officials estimate the expansion will cost each member $2,400 per year to cover each child over age 21 (or 23). This is provision would be unique to TRICARE and would not be imposed on non-military parents using commercial health care insurance. DoD officials say they have to charge a separate premium because they canÂ’t spread the cost among other beneficiaries as civilian insurers do.

which means as always you know a politician is full of shit because their mouth is moving....
they are pretending that military medical coverage is somehow different than other insurances as a 'individual gift' but then fight tooth and nail using our collective withholdings pool to negotiate with medical facilities and such.....
Ogabecare has all sorts of little gems you will not hear about without looking.

How perceptive are Maddow's viewers? I attended a politically themed Halloween party a couple years back dressed in a thrift store pantsuit, a microphone, a five o'clock shadow, and a nametag that read "Rachel Maddow." Nearly everyone busted out laughing on sight, that is, except libs. They thought I was an admirer.
Smart crowd.

we have tried to control things that way for about 25 years now and I don't recall you guys allowing "the cut in future growth is probably too optomistic" I recall commercials showing Granny dying and "YOU WANT FOLKS TO EAT DOGFOODZ!"
so enjoy the shit sandwich we learned it from you and tell your handler I said that.
You don't get to use that level of demonization to get power to do what we wanted to do to get shit passed and add cost when we are not allowed to use it to cut cost....
Your days of shitting yourselves to hurt the GOP and us not feeding it back to you are done.

R-R must relentlessly repeat that Obama is destroying medicare and social security.
What is so hard to understand?
A. By not addressing the fiscal non-sustainability of both programs, Obama is destroying them.
B. This message means a lot to a lot of voters.
C. The details will never get worked out during the campaign.
D. The only relevant factor is the large truth, Obama's incompetence or inability or insouciance or cynical ignorance is a threat to both programs.
E. R-R have a unique opportunity to bludgeon Obama with his own medicine, the difference being they will be speaking the (unsubtle, un-nuanced) truth.
F. Rinseandrepeat, the Republican Guy on tv today, asserted this exact message and was wonderful. "Blood on his (Obama's) hands" is the precise way to say it.

Please folks, this is a critical message. If you cannot get on board with this, remember there is no place to move to after our amazing country is finally crushed.

Is there still a AoS Facebook page?
Yeah but it's been taken over by a humorless coven of shrews.
So mind your step or be banned for refusing to emasculate yourself or any other male at their command.
