Rick Perry On Jimmy Kimmel: "I Do Interviews [Armed] with a Gun"
— Ace

Kimmel is doing shows from Austin in connection with SXSW.

He gets an Austin welcome -- that is, he gets jeered and booed -- but his proposal to partly decriminalize (or defelonize) minor marijuana possession of course gets them on board.

Asked if he jogs with a gun, he says he does interviews with one.

He also notes he's considering running for president. Asked why he'd run again, given his failed 2012 run, he says "America is a great place for second chances. Let's just leave it at that."

BTW, what's up with the Executive Chair Dominance Play? Perry's taller than Kimmel, but their respective chairs make Perry a full head shorter than Kimmel.

15 I hope he gets some serious training in debating if he's considering running for President again. He needs to improve majorly considering the majority of voters put such weight on debate skills. (Personally, I'd rather have a great conservative policy-maker than debater but what the heck do I know.)

34 Honestly I think Rick Perry, on fire, not hurt, and prepared would be pretty powerful on the campaign trail. According to most Texans I've heard, he was unstoppable in his governor campaigns, and they were baffled by his presidential run.
Is he the ideal guy with no flaws? Nope, and good luck finding that guy. Will it make a damn bit of difference in the end? Nope. But it would be fun watching him run if he's brought his A game. We saw brief glimpses of it in the campaign in 2012, I think.
There's a reason Obama is out there finding new and insane ways to blame Texas folks.

61 For the Kimmel h8ers.. He's BFFs with Adam Carolla and did the show with him of course back in the day. For those of you who don't know, Adam's a pretty conservative/libertarian dude. His podcast is not overtly political, but it's most definitely a right-leaning show. Doesn't make Kimmel right obviously. But you have to figure he's not a complete left wing lunatic if he's best buds with Carolla. And he has had a god chunk of anti-Obamacare material lately.

He can deliver a speech, he has a vibe, and he can work a room. Obviously his debate skills are an open question (or to some settled). His run in 2010 against KBH was pretty impressive because he wasn't very popular back then. He has a history of recovering from past mistakes. Trans Texas Corridor being the big one in Texas. I honestly do not know many people who love him, but there is no denying of the incredible economic run that Texas has enjoyed under his leadership.

I still think Palin would be a great president, but I think her window of opportunity for the big chair has closed due to the MFM character assassination spree. But cabinet member in a Perry (or any conservative) Administration? Yeah, I could see that.

Perry needs a good bit of rehab due to his ill-advised, rushed campaign. As a governor of a successful state in awful economic times, he should be reassessed for a presidential run. He managed Texas well and, because the nature of Texas' government, let the state Congress do their thing and go home. IOW his touch was relatively limited but effective.

I like Cruz more, but we need a competent, small-government minded manager. Perry, at a minimum, has become that as he transformed from the Democrat plantation.

Anyone would've performed better than Mitt against Obama, at least after the 1st debate. Mitt was a scared puppy after Candy whacked him on the nose with a newspaper.

203 "[Perry] managed Texas well"

Unfortunately, he managed Texas well. Would that it had been another state.

Unfortunately because from now until probably the year 2040, any Texas political figure jumping on the national stage is going to automatically be tarred with the politically toxic radioactive legacy of the _other_ Texas political figure who within recent memory jumped on the national stage and then fucked up colossally and left office with rock-bottom approval.

Reflect that majorities of Americans STILL blame the horrid state of the economy TODAY on George W. Bush more than they do Barack H. Obama. Amazing but true.

Is that fair? No. Is it factual? No. Is it an overwhelming political reality? Yes. Do the GOP ignore it at their peril? Yes.

Read my lips: no new Texans.

Reflect that Sen. Sam Nunn once plausibly and hungrily harbored Presidential ambitions but could never make it work. Why not? The long-lasting toxic legacy of another Democrat from Georgia before him, who had been President and not worked out well. This stuff crosses party lines.

204 Oh God, living in CO we have all the "Driving while high is a DUI" commercials now.  The state is going to spend most of the pot tax revenues on prevention programs for kids to keep them from getting high and other drugs.

What am I missing here...?

205 Interesting theory on why Baracka golfs so much:

A golf game takes about as long as it takes for the visible effects of taking cocaine to wear off.

Or he could just be golfing.

Obviously, the Democrats have short attention spans (among other deficits). They were the ones who gave us President Lbee Jay.

It would take at least 10 John Nance Garners to make up for that.

218 OT: just saw the news about Jan Brewer not standing for re-election.

It would be awfully nice if someone were to start to whisper in McQueeg's ear that the _mavericky_ thing to do would be to leave the Senate to stand for her office. Why, he would be the ultra maverick of all time!

A hypothetical Governor McQueeg in AZ would still be batshit insane, but it would confine the resulting damage to one state instead of fifty.

But, I don't honestly think McQueeg could be talked into this. Not least because he's a National Defense! guy even though his judgment in defense matters is demonstrably lousy, and there's plenty more National Defense! stuff for him in the Senate.

I didn't find him fidgety at all, but I loved that the second the interview was over, he got up. he was sick of being so much shorter than Kimmel, lol.

230 Look, I like Palin, and I think she was treated unfairly for sure, but any chance she had at elective office ever again was tossed aside when she resigned as governor of her state for no apparent reason. You just don't come back from that, and thinking otherwise is simply delusional ... Why would any R prez appoint her to a cabinet or choose her as a running mate? She can't be trusted to fulfill the obligations of the office ...

Posted by: Joewhoisalwayslatetothethread at March 12, 2014 03:11 PM (4jlYO)

231 RNC is talking about doing all the debates online, and, reminder, it's still two years away, not this year ... Focus, people, focus ... we need to win local elections, retain house, get senate, find good candidates - not be trying to fight for a ticket that won't be in place for 2 years ... I've already said 2nd look at Perry so I hope he jumps in ...
