Romney Bringing Out Welfare Attack on Obama As Game-Clincher?

Romney's welfare ad -- which accused of Obama of gutting the strict requirements for work, because, you see, he did -- was detested by the media, especially those pretending to be neutral fact-checkers, because they felt it was race-baiting.

Even if it was accurate, it was race-baiting, so they made the extraordinary claim that it wasn't accurate.

It's accurate. It's always been accurate. Previously, the law was firm that those on welfare must seek and find work. Now states may waive that requirement, so long as they submit a "plan" to reduce welfare caseloads.

Not that they actually do reduce welfare caseloads-- so long as the file a "plan" to do so.

As the best method of getting people off welfare is getting them on work, any plan that reduced the requirement to work is automatically not a plan to reduce welfare caseloads.

The welfare attack disappeared from the airwaves for a while.

Kaus says it's back.

I was worried the welfare issue hadnÂ’t tested well for Mitt RomneyÂ–it disappeared from his ads for a while and he didnÂ’t bring it up in the debates. But it now looks like he was just saving it for the endgame in Ohio, Colorado and IowaÂ–where ObamaÂ’s controversial welfare Â“waiverÂ” policy has again been raised in a Romney TV ad.

You want a blue collar conservative democrat issue as well as something that isolates the rich white poor un-working democrats as the party of ruling and dependence that they are its the "abusing the safety net issue."

Media and education fraud/indoctrination, Foreign wars, financial scandals... they couldn't care less. The people they see milking the system while they work everyday, is really getting under their skin.

I cant even go to any shopping area anymore without seeing at least one "disabled person who is clearly just exaggerating." No wonder they need so many disabled parking spots. 5 for the fakers 1 for the actual disabled person.

Conservatives would be wise to complain about those "abusing the safety net." Rather then the safety net itself.

In other news, Romney now leading by 5 in Virginia according to Roanoke College poll. They nailed the 09 McDonnell blowout much earlier than the others, and it is considered the "gold standard" in Virginia politics.

Also, using a more stringent likely voter sample says Mitt up by 12 in Virginia. I may be fapped out next Wednesday.

70 I have been in management in a service industry for about 25 years. In 1997 when Clinton's welfare to work went into effect, we got a boatload of applicants but the majority of them were just sorry. These were 3rd generation welfare recipients and they had no clue how to work, or what it took to hold a job. Life skills were almost non-existent. Let me say I was living in an area that benefited very generously from Lyndon's so called war on poverty. My estimate is that it was about 10% of the population. Thus began a continuous revolving door of short term sorry employees, and most of them were cut from the same cloth. Training was grueling and so many just did not get it or did not care. The quality of our work force began to improve after we quit rehiring them (large organization, they could slip into another dept.) and later started demanding background checks. It made it harder to fill even low level positions but the quality of employee improved. After about 10 years, as an organization and as a community we were a step up. People were forced to improve themselves or they were on the streets, and after that usually jail. And most of them were still getting some kind of benefits because of their 'low level of income' so the redistribution was still happening to a degree. But it was an improvement. It is very hard to affect a shift in culture but it is possible. Barky blew all this to hell with his little EO several months ago.

123 Well, they are pulling out all the stops to keep the perception that Obama can win this. New Ohio poll with Obama ahead by 2. Even has a split partisan ID. Independents favoring Obama (not sure how Romney get to -2 with that).

40% of the poll is from Northeast Ohio.

Also National Journal posts a poll that gets included in the RCP, with Obama +5. Of course the DU and DKOS kids are all over it.

No internals, just an off hand mention that they are seeing an electorate slight more Democrat than 2008.

I'm going to need a week's worth of showers after Election Day.

140 This needs to be shown over and over. Senior citizens and even unionistas hate the welfare moochers. The so-called Welfare to Work program was supposed to change that, it didn't do much but it did make things a bit tougher. That's why so many switched to scamming disability. I worked for a non-profit and we saw these people all the time.
