— Ace It's called "teasing." People do it.
If someone talks about how no real pie has anything but a homemade crust, and how she'd never call a pie with a store-bought crust a real pie, and you eat some, and you say, "Mmm, this is good, where did you buy the crust?" newsflash, media: This is called teasing.
But apparently it's now "CookieGate.
Romney’s Comment Sparks ‘CookieGate,’ Democrats Add It to ‘Foot in Mouth’ List
...The former governor met with local residents at an outdoor roundtable lunch in Bethel Park, Pa., during which he joked about a batch of cookies.
“I’m not sure about these cookies,” Romney said, and continued teasing a woman at the table: “They don’t look like you made them. No, no. They came from the local 7-11, bakery, or whatever.”
But the cookies came from Bethel Bakery, a local hot-spot since 1955.
“We are a local landmark in Bethel Park,” Julie Lytle, the bakery’s sales and marketing assistant, told ABC. “When we found out the governor was coming, we sent him cookies to welcome him. We didn’t realize what a big ordeal it was going to become.”After locals expressed outrage through fiery comments on Twitter and the bakery’s Facebook page...
I've lost track -- now this outrage is real and not manufactured by Democrats, right?
I know that half of these are "manufactured outrage" and half are genuine and newsworthy but I can't remember which is which.
You know, here's one of the funniest bits of teasing I can remember. ABCNews should make this into a national story.
steve_in_hb had just bought a big high-def tv. A Samsung (I mention this so they know to be outraged by it). He was very proud of it, and amazed by the clarity of picture (it was his first HDTV). So he's bragging about it for a week or two.
So, I'm over there, and neither_steve_in_hb_nor_not_steve_in_hb shows up. I'll call him "Neither" for brevity. He looks at the TV and says, "Nice TV. Did it not come in HD?"
So steve gives him a look and says "It is HD." Neither shrugs, like "If you say so."
Ten minutes later we're watching it and steve asks if the volume is okay. "The volume is fine," Neither says. "It's the focus that's bothering me. Can you make it clearer?"
Steve gives him a look.
Ten minutes more and now Neither is rubbing his temples and saying, "This TV's giving me a headache. Why is it so blurry? Is it supposed to be 3D? Are there special glasses?"
I don't know how to explain "teasing" to someone who actually knows exactly what it is but wants to play dumb to gin up an Obama-loving story out of nothing.
And by the way -- Tied in Pennsylvania. So, suck it.

If Obama Did it File number 1004147123:
Newsflash! Obama prefers wife's cookies to professionally made cookies. Despite possible political blow-back in a critical swing state, Obama bravely admitted he preferred his wife's cookies to those prepared at a popular PA Bakery. Michele glowing at the compliment said she would have understood if he had hedged and pretended to like the bakeries cookies more but was proud of him and more than a little complimented by his brave honesty. Bakers from the bakery were quoted as saying "Well how can you really compete with Michele's cookies? It really isn't a fair comparison"
Because Romney Did It:
Newsflash! Romney cannot palate common bakery cookies. Prefers those made by his non-working stay at home wife. Some speculate that the lack of real truffle in the cookies is what failed to appeal to Romney's refined and apparently expensive taste buds. Apparently insensitive to the negative impacts to this small Pennsylvania business, Romney publicly lambasted the bakery's product. Coworkers at the bakery claim the baker responsible for the cookies went home crying after hearing the news.

Wait, so, as I read it, Romney was trying to tease someone about how the cookies look so good they must come from the local bakery and people are OUTRAGEOUSLY OUTRAGED that . . . they came from a local bakery? Ummm. What?
I am, however, outrageously outraged that none of you wannabe minions have brought me cookies. willow is always right on the spot with the tea, after all.

125 So let me get this straight. Cookies. That are made by a bakery, are dissed because Romney said, "You didn't make these, they came from a 7-11 or a Bakery?" The same 7-11 that has bakeries making product every day.
.....Instead of the bakery letting themselves be used by the Left, why didn't they just say, "You noticed our cookies can't be made by just anyone, thank you."
---------
I know! .....That was the same point I was trying to make upthread (#82). ....It sounds more like Romney was making a compliment, than dissing the cookies.

It's no where to be found on the Pitts Post-Gazette home page. Here's how outraged the owner (Walsh) is:
**Tuesday's events didn't exactly endear Mr. Romney to Mr. Walsh, who said he thinks the comments were made in jest. Mr. Walsh said he's a Republican, but hasn't decided who to vote for in the next week's primary election.
Now he's hoping to persuade Mr. Romney to try some of his baked goods the next time he is in the area.
"I think that we just need to make him a Bethel Bakery fan," Mr. Walsh said. "He had no idea he was half a mile from one of the most beloved institutions in this area."**

One day God saw a man rowing across a lake. As he rowed, he would say, "One, two, three. One, two, three." God thought to himself, "What would he say if I took out half his brain?" He did but the man kept rowing, "One, two, three. One, two, three." "That's amazing," says God, "But what if I remove his whole brain?" He does but, it's the same, "One, two, three. One, two, three." "Wow," says God, "how about if I fill his head with cowshit?" He does but now the man rows, "Yes we can. Yes we can."

oh no. they also have Anne Romney's horses. She started riding as therapy for her MS, but she now has a very nice horse thats at the World Cup Finals for Freestyle dressage. I am already seeing smarmy articles concerning this. Also she chose not to go to the World Cup, (no engaged owner would miss this if their horse was a contender to win) because of the campaign. Artical mentioned the Romneys are trying hard to keep this from becoming an issue, but you can bet the Dems are gonna flog this like crazy. Make her look like a rich bitch.
I am not sure when horses went from "Wholesome sport that girls like" to "Horrible thing that only the filthy rich who starve babies do" but i have experienced in my own life that a LOT of dems hate horsepeople, unless they have horses themselves. oh no. they also have Anne Romney's horses.
Yup. ....And hollywood types, like Alec Baldwin, have been saying things like Nugent said....for years. Against conservatives.
When Clinton's impeachment hearings were going on.....Baldwin was on Conan one night, and said that all the congressmen who were voting for impeachment, "should be dragged out in the street and stoned to death!"
Whereupon, Baldwin jumped up off the couch.....and bent over, glaring into the camera, chanting "Stone em! Stone em! Stone em!".
But liberals laughed that off at the time.

And he'd do this... why? I know, I know: "Animal cruelty." Blah, blah, blah.

One of those not steves has some serious skills.
That's how you get your mindfuck on - by subtly denigrating someone's major purchase. A purchase that they put a lot of thought into. A purchase that they researched, that they compared to other options, that they visualized.
A purchase that made them feel good inside.
And then you start pecking away with the criticisms and watch as the irritation builds into annoyance which builds into anger. Because even though he's seemingly complaining about your purchase, he's actually taking a giant piss inside your ego.
Well played.

That's another manufactured issue.
I was actually in MA when there was a popular referendum to end dog racing .
This happened after Romney, but even in liberal MA, it failed by a consderable margin. (I voted against it, as did every actual dog owner I know).
They may be liberal in MA, but they're not so stupid as to think that the dog racers actually abuse their dogs. Not only do the dogs themselves LOVE racing, but their "careers" are very short, IIRC, only a year or so, and they spend the rest of their time doing what "ordinary" dogs do!

Actually, I think there are phases.
1) Right now, when it's obvious that's where the fight will be, they'll try to do a concerted, first-impression smear of him. Hard.
2) Week before and after the convention.
3) Oct-Nov.
In between these periods are the standard noise. But really, that first 'candidate defining' smear period is the most important on our side. Romney needs to survive that well.

Bakery items generally look better than they taste. Evidently Mrs. Romney bakes homemade cookies. At least Mitt's Mom likely baked cookies from scratch.
