Kind of funny, but I think it's counterproductive. Believe it or not, the press was actually occasionally chastising Obama for the negative tenor of his campaign. This just gives them license to do what they want to do anyway, which is go 100% for Obama (as opposed to 96%).
Maybe he was annoyed by NBC's special on Mormonism last night.
Not a big deal, though. The press is in Full Rape Mode. There's not a lot lost in alienating them, given that that horror show is their idea of fair.

Please. It's not Romney's fault so many have questioned Obama's birth, he's just using it in contrast to his own, undeniably American roots.

I used to counsel the same, but really - it just doesn't fucking matter anymore. The times you are communicating directly to the voters are the only time you get to forward your agenda.
You just have to concede the MSM commentary to Obama. It's futile to expect a fair shake and your efforts would be better spent hitting back against their mischaracterizations rather than attempting to tailor your speeches to suit the library palate.

This is smart by Mitt. Keep getting under Obama's skin. You have to needle him like Caffey did to Jessup. He is ready to just explode because he thinks he is smarter than everyone and doing everything right. He is tired of having to hide his true lefty. He would rather America just said Thank you and went on its way. Keep egging Obama on. He is thin-skinned and can't deal with it. Normal people will recognize this for the joke that it is. The only ones who will not find it funny are those who are going to vote for Obama in the first place.

We need to keep pushing back.
There are a lot of people that get their opinions from snarky people like Leno and Maher. Since the right does not have someone like Maher, our politicians have to provide the snark pre-canned for the media.
Besides these little hits make Romney and Ryan look confident and hip.

As someone who was not the biggest Romney fan, and I still have certain reservations about him once he gets in power, I have to admit, I have been pleasently surprised and happy with his campaign. One of the knocks against him in the primaries (which I used) was he has been running for President for 6 years. Well, I can certainly make the positive case for that now. He has been running for President for 6 years. The guy wants to be president. Unlike McCain, who just wanted to be the Republican presidential candidate.

This crack works on about three levels. And Ben LaBolt's over-the-top "instant response" was about seven kinds of hysterical pathetic.
Romney is playing the part of a Big Swinging Dick in the corporate boardroom. The guy all the women want to fuck and all the guys want to be. A winner, IOW.
He's painting Obama into the role of affirmative action mid-level staffer, always bitter and resentful and looking over his shoulder. Big time psychological dominance Romney is establishing here. Obama will betray the effect of the dynamic at some point in the near future when he feels totally desperate and trapped. That time is not long to come.
Weak horse - strong horse, and all that. You don't get to the upper levels of business without understanding psychology and strategy.

George Romney was born in Colonia Dublán, Galeana, Chihuahua, Mexico.
George Romney's parents, Gaskell Romney and Anna Amelia Pratt, were American citizens and natives of the Territory of Utah, so he was a "natural born" American citizen.
Questions were occasionally asked about George Romney's eligibility to run for President in 1968 due to his birth in Mexico, given the ambiguity in the United States Constitution over the phrase "natural-born citizen". His Mormon paternal grandfather and his three wives had fled to Mexico in 1886, but none of them ever relinquished U.S. citizenship. Romney's parents chose U.S. citizenship for their children, including George. The family fled Mexico and came to the United States in 1912 during the Mexican Revolution.

The old adage that if you are explaining, you are losing applies to Obama and birtherism too. My guess is most of the voters really don't care one way or the other. It didn't make a difference in 2008. It probably won't make much of a difference in 2012.
If the press asks Mitt about it, my response would be: "It doesn't matter where he was born, his policies are wrong for this country."
Voters will say, yeah, why does it matter. But it will tweak Obama just enough. Provoke Obama into getting into the issue.

Frankly, I like the subtle needling of Obama. Romney should try to do that on a more routine basis, but vary the topic.
I agree that Romney can keep himself under control, but sooner or later, Obama is going to have a "Downfall in da Bunker" moment, and fly off the handle. I only hope it happens in public, and a lot of people see it. Let's see Axelrod, Cutter and the rest spin that.

I was about to pose the same question, then I realized that we're not talking about "legitimate rape" and the answer appeared.

Romney needs to spend more time convincing the moderate middle that he's not the extreme radical right-winger that Obama's people describe him as. he should start by publicly disavowing the Koch Brother and Ann Coulter.
And no point trying to get under Obama's skin. He doesn't have skin -- he has ARMOR, from growing up tough in America.

Because most Americans don't trust any of Barky's ridiculous and inconsistent birth stories. The idea that anyone would even try to hide the details of his birth polls very strongly every time, and not in the Indonesian's favor.
Hiding stuff that is fundamental, simple, required to prove eligibility and that all of us have had to provide on many occasions makes normal people wonder, "WTFFF?"

Soothsayer - I hear what you are saying, but I'm pretty sure the underlying economic conditions of 2004 were a little bit better than they are now.
Plus the big issue in that election was terrorism and national security and most people trusted Bush on that issue. The big issue in this election is the economy and most people do not trust Obama on it.
But it is a good caution.

The downside is bringing up the whole Birther issue, which I doubt is a winner with undecided voters.
I like that he's acting tough, loosening up and having fun. But getting anywhere near Birthers is a loser.
Even making a joke about Birthers is a loser. Why go there? It's not like the media will report on the comment accurately. Too easy to connect Romney with Trump and his nonsense.
Better that he should have fun going after media bias. People want a fair fight. After just about any issue he hits Obama on, he could add something like, "But you never hear that from the media." Or, "The media never reports that."
He needs something like Reagan's "There you go again" comment -- but one that's directed at the media.

It needs repeated saying, just because the press talks about something does not mean it is a loser. Romney made a joke. The press and Obama can interpret it anyway they want. His supporters can too. This one joke isn't going to move anyone from Obama's camp to Romney's or vice versa. Its a lighthearted moment and campaigns need those. Even in serious times.
Let's wait until Soledad asks Sununu about it. I'm guessing the response is going to be id doesn't matter. The question will be why is Obama and his team so focused on an issue no one cares about.

Barky was a co-sponsor of the laughable Senate resolution that had McShame submit his documentation and then declared McShame a "natural born citizen", 'born to American citizens'.

I have a number of lines for Romney to use that I have submitted and I have no doubt others probably have thought of similar lines as they are easy to write. They shouldn't be too sarcastic and demeaning and don't have to be high level comedy to be effective.
Truman kept a sign on his desk that said The Buck Stops Here. President Obama has a similar sign that says The Buck Stops Anywhere But Here.
President Obama thinks that the private sector is doing fine. He also thinks the Cubs are doing fine.
The President believes that at sometime you have made enough money. I wish he would also believe at sometime you have spent too much money.

Playing into a media narrative of embracing birtherism is just as bad as playing into a media narrative on abortion.
Need we remind you that the media tried to call Romney a racist because he used the word "anger" when talking about Obama's divisiveness. Entire swathes of the english language are now considered "racial dog whistles" and "code words," for no reason other than the darker toned skin of the dog-eater in the Oval Office.
The media "narrative" is one of hysterical desperation. Let them choke on it.

And that was after Barky refused to release the same forged document in response Col Terry Lakin's discovery request in his court martial, allowing Lakin to hang in the wind, evidently for "no" reason, but jumping the moment the Donald brought it up (because Barky knows that no one in America buys his crap - not even his supporters). Maybe having to submit the forgery in a court versus as a jpeg on a web site had something to do with the decision ...

It's not about Romney's right to say what he wants. It's not about me changing my diaper -- it's about getting Obama out of the White House.
I'm glad Romney's comment make you feel good, but do you really think the following will help swing undecided voters in Ohio?
http://tinyurl.com/c9dn376
... The Obama campaign quickly responded, with spokesman Ben LaBolt saying that Romney was embracing the most extreme elements in the conservative movement.
"Throughout this campaign, Governor Romney has embraced the most strident voices in his party instead of standing up to them," he said. "It's one thing to give the stage in Tampa to Donald Trump, Sheriff Arpaio, and Kris Kobach. But Governor Romney's decision to directly enlist himself in the birther movement should give pause to any rational voter across America."
Romney adviser Kevin Madden played down the joke, saying Romney was "only referencing that Michigan, where he is campaigning today, is the state where he himself was born and raised"
Mitt Romney's own birth certificate was released by Reuters on the same day as the candidate appeared with Donald Trump, who loudly amplified doubts about the president's birthplace...

Difference:
Mitt Romney --> Made a joke
Todd Akin --> Believes in magic vaginas

It's very useful in provoking an unhinged reply from Team Preazy. Sit back and watch what happens.

She was surprisingly lucid and good-natured about the whole thing.

This is very disturbing. My image of somebody taking nightly multiple inputs from parole violating Quebecois trash while screaming marxist dogma has been blown straight to hell. It's gonna take a while to come to grips with this.

Even throwing Mormon virgins into a volcano would not appease the MSM gods. And the concern trolls won't be happy till Ron Paul is king of America.

Nah, this is one of the few issues where we look like the unhinged ones. The White House would very much like this to dominate the news.

When the FUCK! will NBC do a detailed review of the political gathering, sorry, I mean congregation, at trinity united?
NEVER!
They Even used SOUTHPARK FUCKING CLIPS! And insinuated a sorta Hidden Mormon Gold fucking theme, JESUS CHRIST! Trey Parker and Matt Stone should SUE!
And I'm not kidding about that, they should sue, since the ENTIRE STORY! NBC ran was based on the opinions of SOUTHPARK! IT WAS!
REAL HEADLINE! "NBC IS A BIG FAN OF SOUTHPARK, AND WE HATE MORMONS!"

Well they just got their wish. Did you see ace's latest post? You could go over there and opine what a great coup for AxelJarrett this is.
also, re: your suggestion that Mitt/Ryan should be focussed on the economy...that's pretty much all they've been featuring as a theme. The economy is hitting the independents/undecideds particularly hard in the Philadelphia suburbs. The white collar professionals are sweating their houses going underwater.
Who to blame, what to do...?

Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO) to hold a press conference in St. Louis County today at 4:15 pm central time. That's all the release says.

FU liberals, suck on it. Romney was funny. Stupid liberals call all but call Romney a: murderer, felon, tax cheat, racist etc. but Romney can't make a little joke? Idiots. I suggest an Obama school transcript joke or a 57 state crack for Romney's next joke.
