Romney's Internal Polls: We Got This, Bitchez
— Ace

Narrowly as you can possibly win it.

Mitt Romney is ahead by a single percentage point in Ohio, according to internal polling data provided to MailOnline by a Republican party source.

Internal campaign polling completed last night by campaign pollster Neil Newhouse has Romney three points up in New Hampshire, two points up in Iowa and dead level in Wisconsin and - most startlingly - Pennsylvania.

But behind in Nevada. But then, Nevada has been looking like a No Go for a while.

Harry Reid's machine -- fueled by unions and illegal aliens working as get out the vote staffers -- might just be too much for any ethical campaign to overcome.

38 I think it's impossible to predict at this point. Romney's been a great candidate who only made one mistake (not making Benghazi an issue reporters had to cover), and his work ethic has been fantastic. Romney seems to have last minute enthusiasm, on account of him being a great candidate and many hating Obama. But there are a lot of socialist ninnies, the media's been in the tank even more than usual, and the Dems have the margin of cheating in their favor. The erosion of Romney's numbers over the last week in both Gallup and Rasmussen's tracking polls (despite Rasmussen ticking up a point for Romney today, and Gallup showing a 1 point lead) is worrisome. However you slice it, a 1 point lead is tight. And the polls get crappier as fewer people answer the phone, so who knows how close they all are? It could be tight as hell. Or maybe Romney will overperform his polls. No way to tell really. No point in even trying to at this stage, except bragging rights. Which side wants it more? Which side turns out? We know the Dems want free stuff. They'll turn out to demand it. Do Republicans, as a group, turn out enough to send a message and give Romney a mandate, or do too many of them get hung up on their pet differences on policy or equally bad, just assume their vote doesn't matter/they can't be bothered. You know, they don't believe in this government thing and voting's kind of like that. With both Rasmussen and Gallup showing a 1 point lead for Romney, and with Obama having a bit of an advantage on how the Electoral College map breaks down, the only smart bet is to assume it will be close, avoid complacency, and get out the vote. Independents, for their part, will do their thing.

See, this is why I remain not cocksure as so many are--when your internals give you ONLY a one point lead in a state that is basically conservative and your opponent is not just a lib, but a PROGRESSIVE, then you ask, "What has happened to America."

Obama is not a "moderate" as Clinton posed.  It's fine with me if you'd rather not use charged words such as "socialist" to describe him in an effort to have a discussion, but even Dems admit he's been a poloarizing figure, even Dems know he's fucked up a lot, and for there to only be a point differential in an internal poll makes me fear we have indeed reached the tipping point in America.

Lastly, why the hell would any "Republican party source" provide internal polling data to anyone?

And since they wouldn't, what's the reason for the seeming "leak"?

81 2 things:

1) A campaign should ALWAYS say they are just winning by a hair.  If they said they were 5 points ahead, people start getting lazy, money and volunteers start drying up.  Remember that.  And the way Romney has been acting, it doesn't seem like their internal polls are saying it's a one point game.

2)  The whole "Nevada is unwinnable because of the Reid/Union/illegal alien machine".  If that was true, why did Harry Reid's son lose by around double digits when he ran for Governor also in 2010?  You can't have it both ways.  Answer: Reid won because Sharon Angle was a wingnut and conservatives need to stop nominating dingbats unless they just want to hand left-wing Democrats Senate seats on silver platters,

I will say, Nevada has changed demographically, but I have a good friend that is involved with an outside group in Nevada that actually says Romney is going to win there, and he was someone that was bearish on Romney's chances early on.

I haven't followed the context of your comment, and I can only assume then that you're referring to Ace's main post. Well, campaigns leak internal polling all the time. Especially at the last minutes to rally the troops. It's not like keeping it secret from the Dems is that huge of a deal the day before election.

149 I bet Romney wins Nevada. But again: Don't watch the results. Ignore the TV, ignore the news. Shut it all off for the day, don't even come to blogs if you can't stay away from the results. Just wait until Wednesday, it can wait 24 hours.
Just think of all the stuff you can get done or the naps you can take, or sex you can get or whatever. Do something else that day. Relax, enjoy yourself. Then Wednesday see what it was like.
I say this for four reasons:
1) you're just going to get an aneurism or ulcer if you don't give this a break, its too big and you can't influence it beyond your vote on Tuesday 2) The press is going to do everything humanly possible to call the election for Obama, to suppress votes west of the Mississippi, and to depress you. Why enable them? Just avoid the bastards. Shut them out. 3) The real work begins on Wednesday and we need the rest. We've been pushing hard. Take time off. You don't need to know the results the billisecond they come out 4) Usually the results are confused, incomplete, and contradictory for the first day anyway. Avoid the grief.
Please, people, do this. If you are a nelson house ESPECIALLY ignore the TV results. Choke them out, starve the beast. This is their big night, make them pay for all the times you've gritted your teeth and shook your fist at the press. The best way to make them pay is to just ignore them.

I believe we tip both of them because they are hurting with white working class and have been for 2.5 - 3 years. Unions can't goose the numbers much anymore. I think in many ways this PA thing is mostly on the Philly urban machine. It does seem we took advantage of people's donations to Romney over the months, and caught them with their pants down a little bit here, but the city is a lot to overcome.

No, just the opposite. They spend millions doing it right, something Razz or Gallup just can't do.

True, but what they choose to leak is strategic.

You could believe that R^2 is choosing to release a close poll based on a conservative (i.e., more Democrat) turnout model to show everybody that it's winnable but not to get complacent.

A losing candidate will release his best polls.

This may be anecdotal but I voted friday here in henderson at the Galleria.  There were a lot of pissed off looking people at the polls with pissy expressions in line.

The surprising thing is i watched them as the entered and as they left the polls while i moved up in the line...most of the pissed off looking ones had lookes of peace on their face when they left the polling station.

The few who were there with forced happy faces on left the polls looking distressed.

Make of it what you will.

Thanks for at least tacitly admitting what Sharon Angle and any other candidate would have been up against, not to mention "Republicans for Reid" and the openly acknowledged bussing of Casino workers to the polls...not even close to the same situation as O'Donnell.

That said I am still going to call Nevada for Romney. The polling sources are unreliable and there just isn't the enthusiasm for Obama this time around. A good percentage of Clark County's 2008 and 2010 leftist voter base will not turn out this time, this will be offset by the sizeable population of Southern Nevada Mormons who largely sat out the last two elections.

Nevada will go red.

#7:  "I. Can't. Fucking. Take. It. Anymore.

"I'm waking up tomorrow, proudly voting a straight GOP ticket, then going dark for the rest of the day. I can't handle the stress of a close election. I just can't."

Ditto.  I will here admit how I dealt with all four debates,

Debate One:  I turned off the tv, sat in darkness with my computer, did all I could to avoid websites or newsites that had pics or reports of the debate in progress, and oh, yeah, to pass time, I took a long hot bath and didn't listen to the radio as I usually do.  Ninety minutes later, with dread, I went to HotAir and just as I saw a page of posts of jubilation, my phone rang with my sister (who'd been warned not to call me during the debate, not to offer progress reports) at the other end screaming for joy.  I spent the rest of the night reading the posts at HotAir and loving it.

Debate 2:  VP debate:  same thing- when sis called, she told me Biden had been really, really weird as if he was "on something."

Debates 3 and 4 :  Was visiting my sister who lives 2.5 hours away for a few weeks.  Knowing I couldn't bear to watch these any more than I could the previous two, my sister suggested that I spend the 90 minutes in her computer room, with door shut as she watched the debate on a tv in another room.  I said, "No, can't, " because the two rooms shared a wall and I knew I could hear through the wall and because I figured she'd be letting out shouts during the debate.

So, in both instances, I left her house, got in my car, went to Starbucks, then Office Depot, browsed, drove around town, and basically wasted the gas in my car that I had paid $4.74/gal for.

As I have aged, I've grown less able to deal with such things.  I have no idea what I'll do tomorrow.  I like a glass of wine now and then and a good Margarita, but I'm supposed to be watching my blood sugar so shouldn't have those....I am a real mess.  Rip Van Winkle time...who knows?

I've got a fireplace but no running water, fortunately I live on a lake so I've been filling my toilet tanks with lake water to flush. Its like little house on the friggin prairie, my back is killing me and I'm hemorrhaging cash. I'm just thankful Jerry Rivera's gold fish are safe.

262 >>>True, but what they choose to leak is strategic. Yes, this. That said, if I were choosing what to leak, and I had a poll showing my side blowing out the opposition, and another showing a narrow race, I'd sure as hell leak the second one even if I thought the first one was more likely to be true. You can suppress turnout with complacency, not just despondency. So I'm not saying the Romney internal polls leaked are wrong. Just that they're tight.

Quick New Mexico primer: Think of NM as three different polities: Albuqueruque and the lower Rio Grande which includes Las Cruces, SE New Mexico and Northern NM (El Norte).

ABQ and South are D-majority, but R's are competitive. SENM is called "Little Texas" for a reason: Most of the oil and gas and highly conservative. El Norte? Taos, Santa Fe and environs. Strong R area in the NW corner, but blue as it gets otherwise.

Gore beat Bush here in 2000 because it snowed in SENM on election day. (True story!). Obama came in and out organized us in '08 and won a crushing, Conan-like victory.

Because of that drubbing and the fact that Libertarian candidate gary Johnson is from here, both sides basically bailed on the state early which might be a blessing. I don't know what Truman knows, what I do know is that, as in most battlegrounds, D early is down, R is up.

As is the case in most NM races it'll come down to election day in ABQ. If it breathes and looks like it'll vote R in SENM we're getting them out. I do have specific knowledge of that (Can I sleep yet? )

Northern NM turnout will be down, there's no excitement for O there. Honestly, some racism probably involved.

Comes down to how well the Party and Victory can get the NE Heights R's to turn ouit in ABQ. 80% plus, we're in it. Going to be interesting.

Retake  Ohio, take PA, take Wisconsin and the GOP strategy moving forward.   The GOP needs to grab  PA and put in the red column for good.  That will counteract the fact that the Dems start with CA, NY and IL and have 100 EVs right off the bat.  We need to counter it with TX, FL, and PA.  I think we  can  take IL too  as I think it will implode anyway  and will go  red by necessity.  It may lose 2 EVs anyway by natural  attrition following its implosion.

Rove was on earlier, sounded hopeful of over an over 270 electoral votes victory, said he still put WI in a "tossup" category....wow, come ON, WI.

Rasmussen on now on Hannity with Barone and Ras just said, "that all the data we have now says that as long as his people turn out on election day, he[Romney] wins."  He was speaking of the whole election.

Barone still says, "I could be wrong" but he and Ras point to underenthusiasm for Obama but just now both said, "Still, the Obama people have a good turn out machine."

Barone:  "The firewall somewhat crumbled after that first debate."

344 30 Any word on the darkhorses (NM, ME-2, OR), particularly New Mexico?
==============
Here's what I got on NM:
Albuquerque it the big pot, heavy Dem but low turnout there and the rest of the state can overcome it.
2008 the JEF pulled 171k votes from there with 127k from early and absentee. It split 63/37 for the JEF.
2004 Kerry pulled 132k but the split was 52/48.
Absentee ballots were 75k of the 2008 vote. 2012 saw only 41k sent out.
Early voting there, however, is up 20%, 125k to 150k now. (EV in 2008 was 66/34; 2004 51/49)

Assuming a 2008 split and the JEF is down 8k; assume a 2004 split and the JEF is down 32k.

Bush won by 8k; JEF by 80k.

I've done GOTV in NM--the GOP is fired up.

Truman North knows more but he ain't talking.

One other thing, Heather Wilson says she is tied at 46.

349 It's over Yahoo is predicting a Barry win:

As the last full day of the 2012 presidential campaign gets under way, the Signal's prediction remains the same as it was nearly nine months ago: President Barack Obama will win reelection with 303 electoral votes, winning Ohio and Virginia but losing Florida to Gov. Mitt Romney.

There is only about a 15 percent chance that we'll actually be correct, based on our prediction model, given the many combinations of close states that could go either way.

15% chance!!! And yahoo runs with that as a front page news story.

350 For delicious schadenfraude, I hope Romney DOES lose Ohio. But wins in PA to put him over the top. All of JEF's operatives' best-laid plans have been in gaming the early voting travesty in OH to steal the state and steal the election. With a phalanx of attorneys ready to help out wherever needed. So in the end, the relevancy of their plans is made moot by PA. Yes, that would taste like.....bacon dipped in vanilla pudding. With skittles sprinkled on the top.

Sounds like he's confirming that Romney has the Independents.  By my estimate, if Romney has Independents by 10% (ballpark), Obama needs about a D+4 to win the popular vote.  With cross-overs (more Ds crossing party lines than Rs), he might actually need a little more.

If the Republicans show up to vote, D+4 won't happen, and Romney has this by a margin.

We're in MN, MI, PA before the end. We're expanding the battlefield into the blue states. Reverse of Obama in 2008

Reiterates he expects that Romney will be giving his victory speech at 10PM CST

Is this to cover for OH? No we are close in these States and OH has nothing to do with it. The Dark Price is adamant about OH being where we need it to be due to EV numbers before we even do our election day GOTV.

OH, PA, or MI are announced for us it is over. Don't even need to wait for other States after that.

Are you worried about cannibalizing your own vote on EV? No the huge push for early votes was low propensity voters (vote once every 2-4 years) and the solid R's (primary voter, etc)were not pushed.

WI - Tommy running ahead of Romney overall in WI.

Most pundits are predicting Obama to win - why are you so confident?

Enthusiasm matters...and its being downplayed.

Belling: I know Priebus and he has the sound in his voice of a guy that knows they will win. Why? They believe that R turnout on election day will swamp Obama.

403 Don't abandon Nevada as a deep blue state just yet. Jon Ralston, a far left pundit in Nevada, predicts that Obama's win will be by only 4 points, BUT that Heller will get in, and the Republicans will take the State Senate, while increasing their numbers in the Assembly. Also, Obama's margin of victory will probably be due to the 50K voters the Reid machine registered at the last minute, which they got away with because the Ron Paul cultists who took over the GOP here wouldn't shut up about UN plots to take over their refrigerators (I am not kidding). The casino owners are starting to turn away from Harry Reid, and when Reid goes, so goes his machine. To help that along, Romney needs to push for regulations/legislation that will reign in the unions.

BTW, ABCNEWS now reporting on my radio that "President Obama is now slightly leading, broken ahead"----damn MEDIA BASTARDS, never explaining the internals of the polls to people.  BASTARDS--they need to die.

Some odd findings:
1) Romney/Obama are TIED with Indies.  Um, no.
2) Romney only gets 57% of white voters.  Um, no.

Looks like most of Obama's surge came from NE after storm.  Of course, those states can each only be counted once, so a vote surge only there doesn't really help.

Yeah, but losing campaigns always overstate and say "we're up 5" to try and use the bandwagon effect. This +1 makes it close enough to keep us going to the polls. It might be if anything tamping down the numbers a bit so we don't Winston Wolfe it.

432 Sounds like he's confirming that Romney has the Independents.

Posted by: Optimizer at November 05, 2012 04:53 PM (Mxt9o)

They have Obama at D+4 and he is barely keeping even and they are significantly underreporting independants.

Obama needs a D+7 turnout to win.

You live by a lake? But no running water yet, so you're having to carry water for toilets?

Here is a DIY idea to help you rig up a way to get water from the lake:

http:/ /home.mchsi.com/ ~tblount/piston.htm

It's a gravity water pump.

There are other variations out there on the internets...and you can tailor the basic idea to fit your situation.

So if you can scrounge up some pvp pipe, and some buckets...it's doable.

Just a suggestion.

As for Pennsylvania - I TOLD you bitchez Romney could win here.  Just based on what friends and neighbors have been telling me for months.  He's going to win Bucks County, and I think Delaware County too, and that will decide the state.  Philly turnout will not be as nmassive as 2008 and maybe not even 2004.

My big fear is that around 4:00 p.m. tomorrow, Democrats will realize they are going to lose in PA based on massive turnout across the Red parts of the state and lower tunrout in Philly, then run and file suit to keep the polls open in Philly and Bristol (the ghetto part of Bucks County) until 10:00, citing problems with power and such as a result of Sandy.  It's bullshit, but if they find the right judge they might get it.  And then we won't know PA's results early, and Dems will have time to bus in the voters from outside and possbly steal it in Philly.  I'm not putting anything past these scumbags.

Barone said he thought resources sent to Nev. are probably too late.

Thus, if you are right and Ryan is there today, why would they risk using him there when a place they absolutely have to have, like VA and WI and maybe Iowa are better uses of him....unless they know something?

I don't know what to do tomorrow.  I can't watch.  I can't not watch.  What to do?

I think it's the 'multiple contractions' that are what drive some people crazy.

Like:

"Y'awnto" .....for "you want to".

"Y'awnamean" ....for "you know what I mean".

I may have an accent, but at least I try to avoid using these types of multiple contractions.

Northern accents have some of these too...which are sometimes difficult for me to make out.

You know, living in CA as I do, I know just how bad it is and I kept waiting for R/R to make that a staple in their stump speeches, something like, "We can't let ourselves go down the road of a California" but I never heard it.  I wondered if he figured that the line would be bad for those who own businesses in CA.

553 Too close, long term doom. Get out while the getting is possible, because I'm not sure any long term trend is favorable. Real world example--the South had a bad reason to leave the Union and a good reason to be defeated, but the plain simple fact is tnat if she had left in 1850 it would have been difficult for the North. 1840 might have been impossible.

Just saw Rove and Trippi on Bret Baier--dumb segment.  They were giving their electoral maps with toss-ups and leaners.  Rove still says WI is a lean Obama and when forced to do away with leaners, puts it in the Obama column.

The reason I said the segment was dumb is that  the first 5 minutes they based the maps on the average of a bunch of polls.

Forced to end the segment with no lean states, Rove put WI in Obama's column and I forget what he did with NV, but I remember his saying it might be decided by 10k votes.  He put PA in Obama, but of course, he had Romney winning while Trippi had almost all of the battleground states going Barry and Barry winning.

They both said, "Depends on which turn-out model is right."

555 Internal polling? I saw an internal cum shot once in a movie. It also "leaked". What a movie. For those who want to know whether they can trust internal polls that are leaked? I think in this case...yes. They have to counteract the CNN D+11, and now ABC/WP D+6 Narnia Narrative Nonsense. Look I think Romney's going to win, mostly because I think he's going to win the popular vote...giving him anywhere from a 70% (he wins by under a point) to virtually 100% (he wins by over two) chance in the electoral college. But maybe he'll lose. But this polling has been bullshit and is among the reasons many don't trust things like Climate Change research etc. It's gotta be counteracted. And we know it's not a lie. It's gonna come down to turn out...that essentially means tied everywhere. So those internal polls are true. It's PPP saying O's up six in VA that's Bullshit. And now I've seen they've rolled into MN, FL, PA etc so they can't fuck up those RCP averages too... FINISH HIM!! AND THEN FINISH THEM!!

My NP wife two years ago was deluged with election mail, but not one piece she got bearing the return address "Nevada Democratic Party" mentioned any candidate other than Harry.  No legislative, statewide, or congressional candidates.  Nothing.

I agree with Pete Ernaut.  It looks like Obama and Heller for Nevada, but I hope it will also be Danny Tarkanian in new CD 4 and Greg Brower for state senate in Reno.
