— Ace As Wikipedia and other sites go dark (and I join them in protest, by going late), Rubio retracts his support of the measure.
Eh, good. I don't even follow the issue but I like this strange new innovation that citizen input plays some role in democratic processes. Let's give this a spin, see how it plays out.

Yuk it up, but how come we have sooo many willing to start from the more oppressive solution ...and this from a good guy. Enough. Is. Enough.

Just listen how Noot says Juan. Clearly racist.

GOOD. Good Rubio. Way to actually pay attention to the will of the electorate. If you wouldnt mind passing that bit of advice on to your fellow Senators and House Representatives, I'd be grateful.
Now don't do it again, or we're sending the Ewok to fuck your garbage some more.

How about encourage capital investment into companies specializing in constantly evolving encryption technology to market to internet businesses instead of reflexively looking to Big Brother teh closet commie?

My lib/dem, last election uber obama supporter friend (has been very quiet this election cycle so far) sent each of their friends an email this morning with a phone number that you could click on and it would lead you to some woman at their representatives office. Said friend instructed you to say "please tell congressman/senator so and so that I am completely against SOPA/PIPA and I will surely remember his/her vote on this issue in the future"....
kid you not. So who wants this if everyone seems to be against it?
Posted by: ambrosia at January 18, 2012 09:19 AM (oZfic)
Benjamin Quayle, who is on the House Judiciary Committee, withdrew his support for SOPA yesterday.
Sacred Honor compels me to admit that I made out with Ben Quayle in an Iowa corn field.

Anyway, I keep seeing reports about his tax plan and the MSM seems to leave out the fact that he has earned income credits for the very poor which gives them money back.
On another note, my friend who is looking for a house in Rockland county (cause that is what they can afford) heard both Andy's ideas and christie's ideas and they decided to look in Jersey now (cause of the tax benefits).
And they reasoned they won't be alone as "up there it's easy to jump over to New Jersey and they imagined the uber wealthy just might do that to get Andy's mitts off of their hard earned cash.

Hollywood, mostly. Political-wise Lamar Smith is the big cheese behind SOPA in the House, and Al Franken's driving PIPA in the Senate. Hollywood's hired Chris "Waitress Sandwich" Dodd to lobby for it, which tells you all you need to know.
Posted by: Ian S. at January 18, 2012 09:56 AM (tqwMN)
And Maria Cantwell says she favors the goals of PIPA but not the means. She's touting and sponsoring something called the OPEN Act, S 2029, which doesn't sound a whole hell of a lot better:
"The OPEN Act recognizes that the Internet has created new opportunities for foreign products to reach the U.S. market and that there is little difference between downloading a pirated movie from a foreign website and importing a counterfeit movie DVD from a foreign company. For those foreign web sites that are determined after an investigation to be primarily and willfully infringing, the International Trade Commission will issue a "Cease and Desist" order. The "Cease and Desist" order may also be served on financial intermediaries that provide services to that foreign web site, compelling financial payment processors and online advertising providers to cease doing business with the foreign site in question. This would cut off financial incentives for this illegal activity and deter these unfair imports from reaching the U.S. market.

This, and Ace gets a warm-fuzzy feeling when ever Rubio is around.
Can we haz him for preznit now?
Red State did a whole e-mail/phone campaign to Rubio's office on this. Glad to see he takes his constituants advice seriously. Often times I always suspect pols don't know enough about a particular subject or legislature to vote responsibly, the new interweb thingy has worked wonders.

Can someone tell me who is in favor of this?
MPAA, RIAA, copyright lawyers, and people who want to control speech and/or the internet.

Have you ever read the shit they sign their names to?
No one can read that. It's intentionally obscure. They go by what their staff or their colleagues tell them about the bill, and/or what they are liable to get for supporting it.
Posted by: Entropy at January 18, 2012 11:21 AM (mf67L)
At least by ObamaCare supporters' logic.

Honest to god, some of the people on "my" side need to take the f'n anti-government blinders off once in a while. There are some things the USG is SUPPOSED to do, and interstate/international trade is one of those things.
