Salman Rushdie: My Safety Is More Important Than Yours
— Open Blogger

-Warden

Not-American critic of U.S. constitutional rights, Salman Rushdie, has a big giant brain and wants you to know it.

And so upon hearing about the slaughter in Aurora, Rushdie raced to Twitter to drop this thoughtful insight:

The ‘right to bear arms’ is the real Bane of America.

Rushdie, fretful that everyone might be too focused on the horror of a baby being shot in the back at point blank range to properly appreciate what he'd done, capitalized Bane just to make sure everyone got the clever wordplay.

Surprising to no one whomever, Rushdie has a different take on guns when it's his own safety that's on the line.

Salman Rushdie, the Indian-born author whose novel ''The Satanic Verses'' prompted Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini to call for his death, has spent the past six months living in British intelligence safe houses, cut off from friends and protected by armed guards, friends have said.

Ms. Wiggins has been quoted as saying she and her husband are keeping diaries, stay in touch with their families and with world events, and always have at least one armed bodyguard with them.

I guess a woman who's being stalked by an abusive ex-husband who's vowed to kill her should just hire a couple of 24 hour a day armed bodyguards, huh?

Same goes for the guy running a convenience store in a bad neighborhood.

Just about every loudmouthed gun control advocating celebrity has similar access to firearm-toting muscle. But you? Well, tough titty if you can't afford to hire out your protection.

They're leftists, they're rich, and they think correct thoughts, you see. And membership has its privileges.

If there were tough enough gun laws, guns would be the ONE ITEM OF CONTRABAND that bad guys totally wouldn't be able to get.  Oh yeah, I get it now.

Gun control will reduce crime, and people shouldn't have the right to defend themselves.

38 Regarding the idea of gun ownership: I was reading through the Atlantic's archives of Civil War era stuff, and one interesting thing that has stuck with me was the words of a white officer who was the first to command black Union troops: "for there is nothing in human history so momentous as the transit of a race from chattel-slavery to armed freedom" Freedom with arms is freedom with power: that's what scared the Democrats then, and continues to scare them today because they do not trust and sometimes even condescendingly despise their fellow man. For anyone interested in the article-- http://tinyurl.com/buzzytm All their old Civil War stuff is pretty sweet. The current stuff is a slightly different story, but oh well.

49 Gun control will work no better than drug control. Posted by: eman at July 20, 2012 09:31 PM (bbW7j) Immeasurably worse. Productive, well-adjusted, popular and thoughtful people do not, in large numbers, consider fighting their own government over availability of pot. A significant number of the citizens who make things work and support our government would become its enemies, at least politically and in terms of public propaganda. The consequences would be horrific, politically and economically, even leaving aside the issue of political violence (on both sides of the issue).

I have a David Truby book with a bunch of picture in it of expedient guns manufactured by prisoners in the Canadian prison system while they were still in prison.

So far the only class acts about Aurora, CO have come from Obama, Romney, and the NRA. As in they are offering condolences and prayers.

For the pond scum who have raced to clamber atop the still warm bodies of the victims to push their cause like Garibaldi waving his bloody shirt, I have one thing to say - "Have you no shame?"

Of course they don't. All things are politics first and always for them. They don't care who they hurt as long as they push their agenda. They are monsters in their own right.
Lets all take a moment to pray for the victims and families.  Go donate blood for your community and dedicate it to those in Aurora. CO.  Move forward in a positive way for all those affected.

56 Last time I checked, Vermont had no significant gun control laws of its own, relying primarily on the existing Federal legislation.  i.e you could carry concealed or openly in VT without any permits or licenses from the state.

VT is loaded with guns, and anyone could be packing, yet is not a slaughterhouse.

59 Gun control, drug control, price control, micromanaging environmentalism all stem from the modern leftist notion that every facet of reality can be bent to fit their desires, if they only get the chance to make a rule that says so. This is what happens when personalities frightened of things like objective, stubborn reality, human nature, the laws of economics, an uncaring universe and other such big scary things get into politics. Instead of dealing with their neuroses people want to make more rules to make everything safe, failing to imagine that reality might dare to disobey their rules.

60 "Staunch gun-control advocate Rosie O'Donnell insisted her personal body guard be issued a carry permit to protect herself and her children. "

The goal of the left is to punish, terrorize, and ultimately destroy the middle class.  That requires us to be victims.
