IMO, Rush mistake was that he used the info about her that was on the blogs, and that info didn't really make it clear that she was talking about other women at Georgetown, and for the most part, their medicinal application of BC for non-BC medical problems. Therefore, his joke about her seemed to make her a victim. But the think is, from his perspective, he was commenting on what he believed from reports to be her behavior, i.e., she was (and other women at Georgetown were) sleeping around so much that BC was costing $1K/year ($3K over three years). To call that type of behavior "slutty" would NOT have been out of bounds. OTOH, Maher calling Palin the "C-word" or the "T-word" was just being mean and degrading, and reflected BM's true misogynistic feelings towards women he doesn't like.
