— Open Blogger OK, so I didn't have time to put together a chess thread for tonight, so there's not going to be one. I know that this will come as a huge disappointment to thousands of you, but there you are.
So, this is an open thread. Zero content.
And since this is a non-chess open thread, talking about chess is strictly forbidden. 'Chest' jokes are OK, though. God knows we don't get enough of those on the chess threads.
Also, longbows.
Beneath the fold you will see how many times Michael Moore has seen his feet since 1993.

This may be why anyone can't get certain sites. I assume that that's why Daily Caller is also down.

Greetin's and salutin'-at-ya's, y'all.
Had a great gig last night. Good music made with good friends, and copious amounts of Guinness. I feel much better today than I have since we became slaves on Thursday. Today is more music and friends: my drummer buddy (who passed away last summer)'s widow compiled a "greatest hits" CD and the release party is this afternoon over on the coast, right on the water.
All is right with the universe again, or as right as it can get. Still can't get motivated to write anything for my blog tho'. I will probably retire it. Ain't much reason to beat my head against the wall any more.

I think he's teh weird.
Sexually or psychologically. Maybe he's asexual (they do exist) but because of his career, he can't be seen as gay or allow conditions to appear as if he is. Thus the "marriage" to Katie.
This is her big payout. She can NOW go on with the rest of her career with a BIG pile of cash to allow her to do anything at all she wants to do.
She should get an honorable mention at the next Academy Awards for best Actress in a long term part. Plus Child birth! (well maybe, maybe not)
Simple part and depending on the personal demands (probably few) and the interruption in her career, I'll bet she came out better than she would if she'd refused and gone with regular parts.
Hey. I'd do it in a minute if offered the opportunity. (except the child birth part.) (if she did)

1. all legal means to change the culture
This one's important as conservatives have pretty much been laissez faire about taking over.
2. elect actual conservatives.
This is tough as they lie and appearances can't be trusted. Plus what's conservative in one place, isn't in another.
3. educate your children.
Home school. Get your children out of the government run schools.
4. educate your friends.
don't keep them if they aren't conservative.
5. Move to areas that are conservative.
make being conservative rewarded.
6. refuse to be persuaded by any liberal about anything.
trust no one's claim to be conservative. form your own set of guidelines and go with you gut sometimes.
Or we can just all move to montana and wait em out. They'll kill themselves off eventually and we can move back south.

@43...and Obama's up on Rasmussen and Gallup.
I don't believe that for one second. Look at other polls: handling of the economy, foreign affairs, consumer confidence, overall mood of the country, etc. All these numbers are way, way down, some even approaching record dissatisfaction with the current state of fuckedness we're in.
There is no way his approval could possibly be that high.

There is a general observation that the worst moments in a Tom Cruise movie are those when he is supposed to be displaying some passion for the female lead. One of the reasons 'Eyes Wide Shut' was a turkey is that Cruise came across as such a cold fish throughout.

no criminal penalties (yet) for failure to file papers saying you have a legal and compliant health care provider. (notice the wording)
they will however take any refund and apply it to the penalty(tax) before they cut your check.
Just like if you were a dead beat dad.

Please. You think Cruise is selecting them? They're all Scientology proteges.
Mimi Rogers got involved through her drug problems. Scientology runs their own version of a rehab program that is a recruiting system. Nicole Kidman was born to Scientologist parents. And so on.
From what I heard, the first wife decision came down to a coin toss between Mimi Rodgers and Kirstie Alley. They were roommates and notorious party monsters in the early 80s.
I'm sure the Cruise handlers in the church have a short list of names already under discussion for the next Cruise arm candy unit. They'll probably bump up the age a bit this time, which is kind of funny since Mimi was a bit on the old side back then but would be perfect now if she were still that age. There is no longer much of a fecundity requirement as Cruise moves into roles where his character has adult children. He'll probably be cast as a grandparent before 2020.

Scientology is evil. Village Voice has been relentless in exposing this cult's hideous abuses. Sounds like the whole evil charade maybe imploding and exploding. Major defections this week. If this whole scam goes belly up I wonder if movies will get better? Just a thought. It does seem they are running Hollywood these days. Apparently one speculation regarding Katie Holmes filing for divorce in NY is to escape the influence of Scientology court/judge. However knowing Hollywood idiots they will quickly find something to stupid to replace it.

So long as it's in a metromale URBAN setting policing others, he manages as well as a TSA agent secures our national security.
But when he was supposed to play a Samurai, in the heat of battle his limp performance barely hanging on to his saddle was an absolute let down. The plot relied ENTIRELY on the other screen actors.

A tax is levied on something legal (buying a car).
A penalty is levied on something illegal (speeding).
Therefore, how do you frame the question? What is the (in)action?
It's illegal to not get a building permit, therefore penalty. If it's illegal to not get a health insurance policy, therefore penalty (and ACA falls).
Or, if it's legal to be inactive and not buy a health insurance policy, this is a tax (and the mandate stands).
Holy crap, this makes the most sense if I was an alien that just learned English and was talking to earthling Roberts for the first time. For it to be a penalty, the court would have to agree that it is illegal to not get health insurance.
I'm going in circles so much I could be a SC justice. :-( (PS, the ruling sucked.)

Online threat — but SWAT team raids wrong house
18-year-old was watching Food Network with front door open, when storm door came down, stun grenade went off. Whoever made these threats, the Courier & Press said, likely remotely routed them through the Milan's open Wi-Fi connection, which means it could have been used from an outside location. It's possible the Milans, or specifically Stephanie, were targets of "swatting," a particularly nasty prank by which the perpetrator — often through hoax 911 calls — tricks a SWAT team into raiding a house of his choosing.

She has tried to pretend otherwise but it was pretty well known when she was an ingenue and long before the 'Days of Thunder' pairing with Cruise. There is a reason she was on the list of candidates.
Scientology has a surprisingly strong base in Australia. I've had more than one friend come back from there and report their surprise at encountering the same kind recruiters we were used to meeting if we were walking down Hollywood Blvd. to go to a movie or the big news stand at the corner of Cahuenga.
