Let's all sit back and enjoy some cat photographs. Shall we?

Early NASA Astronauts Couldn't Afford Life Insurance
So they found a neat way to raise money.
So about a month before they were set to go to the moon, Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Buzz Aldrin were locked into a Plexiglas room together and got busy providing for their families the only way they could — they signed hundreds of autographs. In what would become a common practice, the guys signed their names on envelopes emblazoned with various space-related images. The 'covers' would, of course, become intensely valuable should the trio perish on the mission. They're now often referred to as " Apollo Insurance Covers."

Now, Eastwooding has become a photo challenge. Similar to planking, Internet users are uploading photos of empty chairs with the hashtag #Eastwooding.

The Government Is Suing the Navy Seal Author
I think their goal is to prevent publication. I guess the book end up in the Washington D.C. vault that contains the Ark of the Covenant, the original copy of Lt. Col Anthony Shaffer's Operation Dark Heart, and the made for TV movie The Path to 9/11.
Last night, the Defense Department's top attorney wrote a letter to Bissonnette threatening to use "all remedies legally available" against him for the publication of No Easy Day, his firsthand account of the mission to kill bin Laden in Pakistan. "You are in material breach and violation of the nondisclosure agreements you signed," wrote Pentagon general counsel Jeh Charles Johnson. The letter hinted at a criminal prosecution of Bissonnete for disclosing classified information and threatened to seize the royalties from his book and go after his publisher Dutton, an imprint of Penguin Group.
Anothr Fan Dies Falling In A Stadium
I said last night that I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often. I didn't realize it would happen the next day.
20-year-old man from Tennessee who plunged about 35 feet from the upper level of the Georgia Dome and struck another fan during the Tennessee-North Carolina State game has died, authorities said Saturday. The man fell on another fan seated in the mezzanine area during the game Friday evening, The Georgia World Congress Center Authority, which operates the downtown football stadium, said in a statement.
The Feds End Criminal Probe of Sheriff Joe Arpaio
The federal government has closed a criminal probe of alleged financial misconduct by Arizona lawman Joe Arpaio, who styles himself as "America's toughest sheriff," and no charges will be filed, the U.S. Attorney's Office said on Friday.
They are still investigating him for civil rights violations.
Apprently Mitch Hedberg Is Dead
I just found out a few days ago. I was wondering to myself as to why I hadn't seen him on tv in a while. A quick google search shows he died seven years ago. I'm really behind the times.
I don't think he's a great comedian, but I did find him funny. I especially like his delivery. Below is a special he did for Comedy Central.
Check me out on Twitter.

If by day 3 they got a fan blowing out of the office, your work is done.
I can see the advantages of using a dead cat -- people will assume it crawled up there and died and the sabotage isn't as obvious. With the dead fish, the guy knows someone is fucking with him...which can be useful if you're looking to build paranoia.

Really? They think he's the only leader in history who has had to work with an uncooperative legislature? I despise Clinton, but I got to admit he knew what he was doing. More examples? Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, Canadian PM Paul Martin did 4 years with a minority government. How about Boris Yeltsin battling the old guard commies. Or Lech Walesa, and Pope JP2? They had no real legal power and they got shit done. Corazon Aquino in the Phillipines?
I could go on but I'm preaching to the choir here.

Yeah, that's the funny thing about old Augusto. The media hated his guts, howled for his head, brought him up on charges in the world court, the whole bag...but when he was done ruthlessly fixing the shit the leftists had fucked up in his country he turned it back over to an elected government.
And he was a ruthless mf'er, too. That whole "dictator" thing, y'know. But, when he was done...back to the elections. It's kind of funny that he seems to be the only dictator the media has ever hated.

Hi ont. Someone last night said dogs were socialist because they want to be fed, walked, taken care of, etc. Agree but dogs do give us love, friendship, loyalty. So we are re-paid tenfold
Now cats are another story all together!

I've never understood them. It's part of their charm.
He was just the sympathetic ear, he listened to the problem and then advised her to talk to her dad, yeah he'll be pissed but he loves you and pretty soon he'll get over it and he'll help you out. Very mature of him, I'm proud of him.
Then he got off the phone and said FUCK THAT WHORE! and I had to be stern with him. Poor kid.

Just wait 2-3 weeks. Signs and bumper stickers will be everywhere.
Also, most towns have laws that prevent signs from being put up on public land until 30 days before the election.

On the G-36 front, I got a 15 pound spring for it to replace the stock 17 pounder and it seems to be working much better, no more FTE issues.
Also, I have my .45ACP reloading dies, so...yeah...
Posted by: GGE of the Moron Horde, NC Chapter at September 01, 2012 10:42 PM (yh0zB)
For my regular guns, I'm a SIG gal. I recently lucked into a P228. I've had my P226 for years. I don't have dies for reload but my brother does. Not sure now if I need to get my own. Anything more than a 9mm tends to scoot me backwards unless I'm wearing tennis shoes. I'm regaining my gun-legs. It's been a while since I regularly went to the range. Two weekends in a row have helped. I won't disappear from the range for so long in the future.

Yeah, but if you recall those were mostly Obama stickers. Not Obama/Biden stickers.
That means they were leftover primary stickers. It's only after the convention that you'll see President/Vice President stickers.
I've got a ton of people in my area asking me about Romney/Ryan signs. I'll probably have to pick up 20-30 to satisfy demand.

Mine's a Heritage Sentry that I picked up for a steal at a Friends of the NRA silent auction. It's a decent gun and I was dead-on accurate with it from the first shot. That's a win in my book. The only drawback is that the LRs aren't recommended so I have to buy the mags. (They'll work but don't always fire... ick) Haven't seen bricks of those.

If you're really serious about cooking then yes. If you use the oven like most people do then no. Kind of like asking if you need an Hitachi or Bosch drill or just a Black&Decker. The B&D is fine for people who are just going to be assemblin IKEA furniture a couple of times per year.

For anyone who uses the Russian steel ammo--cleaning is easy, using a sparing amount of spray carb and choke cleaner. Also a liberal shot of spray silicone makes an M-14 run beautifully.

I do. It's the same as always, no girl is ever liked enough, or pretty enough, or good enough, and some guy always can talk her out of her pants on those grounds. If all else fails, tell her she's selfish. It's just a dreadful fact that it works, especially if you don't have a strong family structure behind you, and no one ever told you that it's up to the guy to prove his worthiness for you, not to you to do anything to "win" him.
I'm sorry as hell for GGE's son, and the girl, and everyone else. This is just a miserable situation.

One reason I knew she was no account was how she went on the View (!) and played the victim card.
I mean, would Ann Coulter have done that?
I don't dislike her, but I've seen her talk, and I think she gets way more attention than she should because of how she looks. She's in no way as dumb as Meghan McCain--not at all--but her biggest asset upstairs isn't her brain.

Plus the writer, Rakewell, even gets to take down an anti-gun British reader in the comments.

Another proposal is to convert CA-99 to I-9. Fresno is the largest city in the US without an interstate. Although CA-99 is already pretty much at or near interstate standards. Not sure how much new construction would be needed.
On the east coast I've seen proposals for a Raleigh to Norfolk interstate highway. I'm always surprised that there are more highways in eastern North Carolina. I-40 only fairly recently (a decade?) made it to Wilmington, but that the southeast corner of NC.
Posted by: Flatbush Joe at September 01, 2012 10:40 PM (ZPrif)
Good luck with that. The I-73 route has been kicked around for 20 years now. 20 years ago we all heard it would be ready about now, they still are studying it. I-73 would be Detroit to Charleston, SC. It would cut about an hour off the trip from Roanoke to Myrtle Beach, and from Roanoke to Cincinnatti, but the fookers can't get the studies finished and appease the enviros.

She continued, saying she was opposed to the idea to have Eastwood address the RNC from the beginning. She said she thought it would be hypocritical to embrace a conservative celebrity, given that Republicans are often dismissive of celebrities who are vocally liberal.
Center-right celebrities are punished for political commentary - it directly impacts their ability to earn a living - for the duration of their careers. Risk vs. reward.
“This is what conservatives do – they get, sort of, distracted by the shiny new toy in any Hollywood celebrity that comes our way.”
The shine was off the Eastwood's apple 30 years ago - old white guy, remember? Clint was speaking to JFK democrats and moderate unionist pensioners.
"What's a movie tradesman doing out here?

My theory on the suppression of the BC is that it may say that Obama is...white. African-American babies tend to be born light skinned. A nurse or administrator comes into a hospital room in Hawaii in 1962, sees a white mother cradling a baby, and writes what he or she thinks is right at the time.
It means exactly dick, but for someone as racially obsessed as Obama, it would be a source of great shame.

The only thing I can figure is I took a lightning bolt on the pier and it backfed to the main panel, bypassing the whole house surge suppressors. That's my theory, and I'm sticking to it unless someone else has any better ideas.

I will receive a whoppin' two hours of training (Whew, at least I don't have to memorize Art III with Blackstone's commentary again), and will have to go wherever in their damn county they need me to "fill in." There are parts of that county I make a point of avoiding.
I went upstairs and dusted off my dark blue Servant of The People suit, made plans for a shoe shine, and came back down just in time to hear that a judge had declared early voting for the whole population of the whole state. So all the fraud wil be over before election day, and I'm just going in as window dressing. Think I'll wear a wire.

A few years ago when we had our air conditioning system installed, we learned Gramps had vented the master bedroom's heater... through the underside of the house. (By my own recollection, he and my dad had installed it probably sometime around 1969-70.) Learned that's been a big-time no-no in California for a long time now, you have to vent everything upwards/through the roof.

More than likely you have a broken connection in the chain of outlets. Assuming, of course, that the circuit breaker has been checked and is found to be working properly.
Once you check the breaker/fusebox and rule this out as the problem, locate the last outlet that works.
SHUT OFF THE BREAKER for that leg. Remove the plate. Remove the outlet. Check the connections.
More than likely there is a broken lead. If, you can locate it, just strip the wire back and reconnect.
Replace oulet, replace cover, turn on breaker and check the 'dead' outlets.

His mannerisms were all "Dog". He would even shake the water off when he came inside after a rain. He was going to be our last kitteh, as we are old.
He was helping me fold laundry one day, when he threw a clot, his back legs stopped working, he looked up at me like: "What's happening?" and then he died. It made me tear.
We're old now, and will never have another, as they might out-live us.

OMG, that is such a matter-of-fact way of relating a moving and sad experience. I suppose there is the blessing that it was quick and relatively painless, but the sudden disruption entering into your lives was horribly unwelcome.
I hope that the pleasant memories of time with your friend far outweigh the memories of when his life just fell apart.

Being politicos, their members of that board have been just as tantrum-prone as the dems, but if there is a reason why there is a sudden lack of volunteers I want to know it. You can do the local paper and talk-show all day here and never have an inkling of what's really playing out. For all I know, GOP is boycotting the process like Aung Suu Kyi. Except not as good-looking, and way better fed.
If it looks like the state/county officials want pawns in some secret powerplay, I might tell them I won't go if I can't carry. Might even say OC, if that's what it takes. That ought to shut the bastids up.

LOL Lou, Reminds me of a blog that I read a couple years ago called "The Hooters Girl." Written by a late 20s/early 30s, very entitled moonbat princess. Thee way she described how her and her waitress colleagues think of male Hooters customers... well, let's just say I don't care if I never go back.
Her attitude (besides that she and her friends were so pretty, smart and politically correct, they could never be wrong about anything ever) was that if you're not wealthy enough to leave a $100 tip for a $4 PBR and a small plate of wings, they don't ever want to see you eating at their restaurant again. And when you *are*caught there again, don't be surprised if you get some "extra sauce" with your meal.
Anyway, not long before the blog was abandoned, this Hooters waitress claimed her previous job was, in fact, as a professional, world-traveling fashion model, and that she was earning easily six figures a year posing for world-famous covers worldwide. So why was she slinging greasy wings? Well, she started having these mysterious tummyaches before photo shoots, and other weird excuses.
The more she went on in blog entries recounting this "history" of hers, the more obvious it became that she was either only telling about 30% of the story, or that everything was BS to begin with.

voltage 117 so I can't blame the power co-op for my troubles.
No phone or cable or satellite here. the surge either came in through the main line and laughed at the surge suppressors or came in from a strike on the pier....those are heavy copper lines down there #2 copper so they could send quite a shock back to the house with the greatest of ease.
This happened while I was gone so thankfully the reefer circuit was one of the few that wasn't tripped.

The day after Andrew Breitbart passed.....people here were talking about the way that he stood up to liberal weasels.
We were saying that....we should all try to *be* Breitbart, in some way.
Stand up to the weasels.
Not let them just blather on, unchallenged.
SoS's story started about that time.
He finally stood up to a clique of liberal weasels at work....that he had been putting up with.
Che-boy was the ring leader of that little clique of bullies.
That was SoS's way of 'being Breitbart' in his own way.
It seemed like he was just reporting on that here...as a tribute to Breitbart.
Then.....a lot of us kept asking him about what was happening as a result of him doing that.
That's how the story developed.
I thought it was believable.
I didn't know that he'd stopped commenting....but I noticed he wasn't around anymore.
It's not like that was all he talked about.
SoS shared his thoughts on a lot of things.....like the rest of us do.
I hope he is well.

While I was building my place, I used to joke around with a couple of my employees at the other job, guys who I knew had done some construction wiring, about the kind of stuff you get into. The standing comeback for any work-around accomplishment was "Yeah but a real electrician would've done that on a live box."
So, couple years go by, and I inherit my uncle's big commercial garage building with an apartment above it. On this one, I don't know who did the original work, so I more or less sweet-talked a state employed, actual real union electrician to come in on a side job, put in a new breaker box, investigate, and rewire the classic but unprovenanced fluoro fixtures.
It went OK, and as we were finishing up, smokin and jokin, I told thim the one about amateurs and the live box. He was leaning against a big A/C airhandler with an open box on it, and toying with a screwdriver. "Ya know," he says, casually backhanding the blade into the swarm of connectors and throwing sparks all the hell over, "I always like to leave 'em on. I think it's safer, really." But he only used one hand, see.

Not really.

There were some flaws.
It didn't read like a story arc.

In general, half your outlets are +/0 and half are -/0, because this balances the load on your supply wires......but this makes it very easy to get confused and wire something +/- by accident. Or share the 0 between +/0 and -/0 devices

Ty. My life is strange but it's mine. I lost that job or rather left to follow the wife to El Paso/Ft Bliss.
I'd have been thrilled to have a more normal life, then again maybe not. My time in the military blew up in my face and I've been a failure or lost or sucked at most everything I've ever done. Like I said if this was a fantasy I am pretty sure there'd be a lot more NC-17 scenes and I'd be a lot better off financially.
I have a mortgage I probably am underwater by 10% of value on, a bad hip, developing arthritis, a 12 year old who has parts of 3 accents, and a wife who may or may not have her e-7 job in a year.
On the bright side, I've got hope for the first time in 4 years, and I may follow in dad's footsteps and drive if she loses her Army career and let her relax for a bit.
I also have here.

I have a 60-year-old house I bought 2 years ago. It had a minor electrical problem last year that ended up being easily fixed by the electrician, but it took a long time to find.
Anyway, none of the outlets are grounded except in the kitchen and bathroom (which the electrician said wasn't a huge deal as long as you knew it). However, when he had the outlet covers off, the wiring looked old and sketchy (although not knob and tube), and the electrician found four hidden junction boxes above the ceiling in the basement bathroom. As a matter of curiosity, I asked him how much to rewire a house, and he said $20k.
Would that ever be a good idea, or should one just handle it room by room? I'm definitely going to have the junction box situation fixed as soon as I can afford it.

Our Training department uses a lot of computer based training. One of our trainers gave me grief for clicking through a 50 slide powerpoint presentation at my desk in 7 minutes. (I had actually went through it a second time to find a referenced document, after spending a good hour reading it the first time. honest!)
But I learned that they could track how long we took, so after that, a lot of my training time included head breaks, lunch and other activities. I assume eventually someone will use the data, and I was going to look like a really, really studious learner.
The bad part is we have idiots in our management who can use the reports to see who has not completed a training class. They set expectations like the entire division will finish their training two weeks before the deadline, and then forget to tell us until 2-1/2 weeks before it is due.
Where's Mike? He's on vacation, back on Monday. Quick, call him and have him log in from Mexico and finish this lesson plan! He needs to do it before VP HIMFIC runs the training report!!!

Wiring = drywall.
There is no "rocket science" about doing wiring from scratch -- it's very straightforward, nearly foolproof, there are books out there, etc. The problem is sneaking around in existing walls -- but if you peel back the drywall, that problem goes away.
Unless you live in a mansion, I can't believe that rewiring the place will approach $20K. We added grounds to every room, GFIs where appropriate, and ran Cat5 and cable everywhere in 1987 for about $4K.

The thing about wiring is that there are two kinds -- one kind is like a 2nd grade experiment with light bulbs and wires, and the other kind has results similar to red shirts on hostile planets in the original Star Trek. The trick is to know one from the other.

the Sacramento Crash that shut down my old airline.
That was why i told the girl go to the break room.
The way that we secure cargo was either in Utility Loading Devices which look like fiberglass huts, or on flat pallets we had to secure.
Initially it was suspected that the Sacramento crash was caused by improper securing of the cargo pallets and a shift of a Komatsu drive shaft that made the plane fall, but the NTSB investigation determined the more probable cause was poor maintaining of the avionics and control electronics/hydraulics suite.
NTSB report

Anyway temps never tied the nets taut enough without oversight and Emery had a bad rep for net looseness, I was in Texas with another airline when this accident happened but I was scared witless that one of the guys who was working in the 9h cargo handler job that got me my start had screwed up.

I was fortunate enough to see a shutdown of Alice at Disneyland from the front row. They have a locking thingie that they clamp on the "go switch" that looks like a set of brass knuckles -- it clamps on and has several eyelets around the outside. Everyone who comes to the ride swaps an ID for a key and a lock, locks one of the eyelets around the thingie, and takes the key with them into the ride. It was physical, foolproof, solid, and well-practiced -- a thing of beauty in it's own right.

If you want 3-prong receptacles on the ungrounded circuits, you can get that by GFCI protecting those circuits. If they're GFCI protected, the electric code allows you to replace protected 2-prong receptacles with 3-prong.
All GFCI's come with a batch of stickers you'd put on the ungrounded 3-prong that would say "GFCI protected" and "no equipment ground".
It can get tricky when there's old cloth/rubber insulated wire where the color on the cloth wrap is faded/gone. Then you gotta do some testing to figure out which wire is the neutral(normally white), and which is hot(normally red or black). That's not usually a problem with the newer plastic insulation.
What kind of cabling system is in this house? Sometimes there is in fact a ground even when there's not a green or bare copper wire. If its armored cable (people call it BX, but the electric code calls it AC) and there's a thin aluminum bonding wire between the jute paper wire wraps and the spiral armor, then that cable would use the armor as a ground. That system works fine when all the box connectors are tight. If they get loose, the ground can vanish. I like a connector called the AMC-50 when using AC cable -- it won't get lose, ever. Not cheap, but very good.
If no bond wire, then the cable armor is NOT suitable for ground. This is older really bad shit. Its much worse safety wise than 2-wire old Romex or knob and tube. If there's a line to box/armor fault that goes all the way back to the panel, and the cable run is long enough, the fuse/breaker won't pop because there's too much resistance from the armor coils and the armor starts to act like a light bulb filament and gets hot...very hot...red hot...burn a place down kinda hot. This is what that aluminum bonding strip prevents.
The good news is...that burn your house down scenario is easy to prevent -- just GFCI protect those circuits at/near the panel. The GFCI will pop when over 5ma of current is leaking down the armor. 5ma ain't enough to torch the armor.

My house was built in 1939 and had fuses. I had a circuit breaker put in and got rid of the knob and tube. It was worth it.

OK sorry i went to In-n-Out. This is all based on NEC & CA. rules:
First, there are so many union and other pro electricians who have been out of work for a year it's really a buyer's market. If you have any doubts playing with electricity is like playing auto mechanic. Don't-
On an old house change out all of your 2-wire receptacles to gfci- protected 3-holers. Up to six regular 3-holers can be run downstream of a GFCI receptacle and still be GFCI protected. DO IT!!! No seperate ground is required, so it's a CHEAP and great improvement. If nothing else at least the bathrooms, kitchens and other wet locations.
60 year-old house means plaster to me. wire can be fished through the walls unsupported- i agree $20K is WAY too high but if you got 3 estimates from legit guys out of the Pennysaver you'd get an idea of the going rate in these tough times. That guy didn't want the job. make the electrician explain to you the parts he's choosing and his prices. Don't go with the cheapest or amateurs 'cuz this stuff is deadly. If your area is anything like mine half the pro electricians are out of work.
Really you might as well run CAT5 and/or phone jacks while he's up in the attic or under the house
I strongly suggest barter in these times.

On a related note I recently learned (while helping type an earnings call for an electric parts wholesaler; I help type quarterly meetings on a part-time basis as a work-at-home job) about how it's illegal for homebuilders today to use aluminum wiring in residential homes, because of sparking issues. Answred the question I had for awhile about why copper still gets used, when so many thieves are just waiting for any structure out there to be abandoned for a week so they can strip/steal it.

Harris-Perry loses house
on to the nucleus of her Moonbattery
“What is riskier than living poor in America?” Harris-Perry demanded. “Seriously! What in the world is riskier than being a poor person in America? I live in a neighborhood where people are shot on my street corner. I live in a neighborhood where people have to figure out how to get their kid into school because maybe it will be a good school and maybe it won’t. I am sick of the idea that being wealthy is risky. No. There is a huge safety net that whenever you fail will catch you and catch you and catch you. Being poor is what is risky. We have to create a safety net for poor people. And when we won’t, because they happen to look different from us, it is the pervasive ugliness.”
Darling what is "riskier than being poor in America" is the fact you are theoretically a Poli Sci prof at a university who has convinced herself that she understands ANYTHING. If you are filling the kids of Tulane with your vapid sense of entitled rage on behalf of a poverty you live near but do not know you are aiding in the destruction of the Republic. It will be a pleasure to see you detonate and lose your job next year.

Posted by: sven10077 at September 01, 2012 10:49 PM (LRFds)
If the place was piped in galvanized rigid, you already had a ground -- the pipe itself. Galvanized rigid makes a fine ground when all the locknuts and couplings are tight. You only needed to pull a black/white. I think the Empire State building was piped in galvanized rigid.
When the pipe is used as a ground, the electric code does however REQUIRE a ground wire from a receptacle to the box. It doesn't want you to trust the receptacle mounting screws to provide a gnd path. The only exception would be surface mount with self grounding receptacles.
Wire that starts and ends within a box, like that mandatory gnd wire to box, does NOT count towards box fill, so you'll never get dinged on a fill violation by putting one in.

The speaker was talking about gauge however, and the ratio of how much aluminum to use vs. if you were using copper.
Posted by: qdpsteve at September 01, 2012 11:05 PM (7B7jB)
That's why you use larger gauge Al vs copper -- to reduce the resistance. I use Al for panel/panel feeders a lot due to cost. The only dangerous thing about it is the idiots who don't know how to terminate/torque it properly with anti-ox prep.
I've got a 100A subpanel feed planned for this winter that'll serve the kitchen area and an electric stove. That feeder is going to be Aluminum, but its going to be 1-0 Aluminum.
If someone claims to be an electrician and they don't have a torque wrench, send them away.
That old Al that was put in residential places back in the 60's and 70's, that's a different story, but it wasn't the cable's fault - it was the devices it was connected to, poor installations that didnt' use the anti-ox goop, and wire nuts that didn't work well long term with Aluminum. The cable itself was fine, it was all the other shit surrounding it that failed.

You don't use paralleled conductors until you get into the heavy amp shit like 400A+ services. One condo in WPB I setup the gear room on some years ago had like 5 or 6 paralleled 500 or 600mcm in their own pipes on each phase coming in. That was a 2,000A service.
The smaller shit they don't even make anymore AFIK. You can get aluminum 4-wire SE cable down to about #6 and I've used that occasionally on 40A stove circuits where its a straight shot from panel to receptacle. Still gotta anti-ox prep/torque and make sure the stove receptacle and breaker is UL listed for use with Aluminum wire.

“Independence Day is more aspirational than actual,” she began her monologue. “We have longed defined the American Dream with commodities, a home of ones own, better education for the kids, family vacation and a car to the vacation in. Wages have dropped, and the median net worth of American families plummeted by almost 40 percent.”

My dad had me help him put a service on a warehouse he bought back in the late 60's. We used Aluminum from meter to the panel and meter to the weather head. Last time I drove by that warehouse a few years ago, the service we installed was still there and in use.
Most POCO's use Aluminum for the laterals off the transformers to meters. That shit's not getting replaced all the time.
Success with it IMO is *completely* dependent on the quality of installation. Duffers or people unfamiliar with it will fuck it up. A pro who knows how to deal with it won't.

Well, yeah....that is the sort of thinking that has spawned the OWSers.
They've bought into the bullshit, that "if you get an education, there will be a job waiting for you".....then you're set for life!
Hard work doesn't figure into their picture.
If you can't get a job..."in your chosen field"...then you blame the evil rich for that, for not creating one for you.

The data I've seen indicates that class mobility is largely a function of time. A poor new immigrant family with low skills takes about 3 generations to reach comfortable middle class.

I would be happier about the situation if they were not so able to poison young minds with state support and give out the grades. Sadly, we have so many fine youngsters that have to live into their 30's or beyond before they find out their schooling has damaged their education.

My hope is that this goes deeper than just a single election- We're really at the culmination of their idea of the power of diversity (JEF) and government as the corrector of every human failing and fulfiller of every need. And what do we have? A giant wet fart of incompetency and a death-spiral of debt. My most schadenfreude-laden hope is that they *realize* they have failed, and it haunts them to their deathbeds.

If the collapse comes, a person who can repair a roof or fix a toilet will find a way to scrape along somehow. The people with no maintenance skills and a PhD in women's studies or some other sketchy shit are going to be the ones with problems.
My dad started my serious education about mechanical/electrical shit when I was just a tyke. Its served me well over the years and saved hundreds of thousands of dollars. My graduate degree is nice, but I know it won't be worth shit if things really go sideways.

So, learn something practical. If you already know something (or a lot of somethings- I know how you M and Ms roll), learn something more. It'll make you feel more human.

Nature smiles on fast reflexes and endurance. A lot of what people credit as luck in escaping dicey situations really isn't. Its being just a bit better than average or being able to stay frosty and keep working the problem mentally and not panic, or being able to anticipate a problem before it becomes a problem.
I've had a number of incidents on the highway where random shit came my way and just doing my regular front/rear/side scans allowed me to see something developing and just slow down or pull off before it became a real problem. Of course the other oblivions on the road dove right into the impending disaster and got their shit beau coup fucked up.

LG Electronics is pissing me off. They sent out a firmware update for my Blu-ray burner that introduced new problem where it had been flawless before. Produced my first coaster on BD-ROM media. I can't leave the box checked for 'close session' to make a disc permanent because it never finishes. Hopefully the recipient for these won't accidentally overwrite them.
Went to the LG support site and there is no listing for the model I have, only older models. This thing has been out at least 8 months. What are they waiting for? I want to see if I can revert tot he previous firmware that had no bugs for my purposes.
