Second Poll Confirms: Obama Has Lost His Lead In Blue Michigan
— Ace

Previously, a EpicMRA poll was the outliner showed Romney up by 1 among likely voters, 47-46. @conartcritic thought that was probably an outlier.

But maybe not. a new poll by Foster McCollum White (PDF) puts Obama up by only 1.41% -- a statistical tie -- and furthermore with registered voters. The poll is automated, but then, so are Rasmussen's, and Rasmussen is accurate enough.

(Note: There is an error in this pdf, dating it from February 27th. However, the release notes Scott Walker's recent win in Wisconsin and Obama's gaffe. The poll is actually from June 12, as it notes in the actual text.)

Here are some quotes:

President Barack Obama and former Mass. Governor Mitt Romney are in a statistical tie making Michigan a serious toss-up state heading into the summer months before the convention. [bold in original]

...

President ObamaÂ’s Michigan lead has deteriorated into a dead heat with Republican nominee Mitt Romney. President Obama leads former Governor Romney with a scant 1.41 point margin, 46.89% to 45.48%. Michigan was considered solidly Democrat, but based on the feedback from Michigan respondents, Michigan will likely be a very competitive state.

...

“The past week for President Obama was hurtful to his numbers”, per Eric Foster, chief pollster and President of Foster McCollum White & Associates. “The campaign is very fluid, but the President’s campaign may want to shift its focus towards presenting more of a business case narrative of why voters should re-elect President Obama."

Is this a Republican shop? Seems not.

Foster and Baydoun actually have a reputation for representing Democratic Party interests.

Much as I harsh on CAC's constant poll obsession, he's right that the bluest of states are cracking open for Romney.

It's a miracle that Michigan is competitive.  The gay marriage thing must be suppressing lots of blue-collar and black enthusiasm for BO.

Obama's narrative is at fail big time.  No news there of course but their continual tacking around failed narratives is going to become the story.

In Obama's speech today he appears to be enlisting the press to go after Romney and investigate his plan.

Obama's machine is running on the same old 2008 lubricant.

He's got a record now and the machine don't work on records.

RUSH: It is amazing, isn't it? After three-and-a-half years, everything that's happened the last three-and-a-half years, if it's all been Bush's fault, don't we have evidence enough now to know that Obama can't deal with it. Obama doesn't know what to do with it. We need to elect somebody who can stand up to Bush.

CALLER: Absolutely.

RUSH: This guy can't even rescind tax cuts. This guy can't fix anything that Bush did. If we reelect Obama, won't it just be four more years of disaster caused by Bush? Obama's admitting he can't fix what Bush did. Why reelect him? If Bush screwed it up so bad we need somebody in there that can fix it. Obama's been at it three-and-a-half years, he is admitting every day, and he's gonna do it again today, that he can't fix it. That's what he's saying.

CALLER: Yeah.

This a.m. I checked the PA elections website to see the results for 2008 and 2010 elections. McCain was shellacked in the Philly collar counties, he lost by double digits in all four. Toomey won Bucks and Chester county in 2010 by healthy margins, and Sestak took Delco (predictable, since he was our congressman), and Montco by much smaller margins than B.O. won two years earlier.

Hoping this trend continues. If either Montco or Delco join Bucks and Chester county in November, PA goes red.

97 CAC should consider adding Nevada to the toss-up to red column. Between last years special election for NV02 and the this weeks primary, the GOP in Nevada have been turning out in massive numbers compared to the Dems -- though this may be due to Dems who have fled the state in the past two years. Even though it was a low-turnout primary, more GOPers voted in the Senate primary then Dems...in Clark County (the Dem's stronghold and home to 70% of the state's population). This is mirrored in the NV03 race and the portions of Clark County in the old NV02 district last year. This happened despite the Dems having a unified machine, while the GOPers have a civil war with the "Rump" Ron-Paul supported party vs. "Team Nevada." While people point out that Harry Reid won in 2010, they need to realize he had the perfect storm of an election with a horrible candidate. Also, despite Harry Reid's win, his son was defeated by double-digits for Governor and lost every county. The GOP, as well, got more votes for the state Assembly then the Dems (though the Dems retained control due to 10-year old districts where one GOP leaning district had more voters then seven Dem leaning districts combined. tl;dr Nevada is up for grabs, and I'd like to help out on election day with Nevada county reporting. 118 Michigan has a new republican governor. He is a moderate who was a businessman who had run Gateway computer. He has been working on getting school districts to get concessions from teachers' unions on pension and health insurance. People are finding out that the districts who get these concessions are balancing their budgets without layoffs. He is also going through state takeover of school districts, such as the Detroit Public Schools, that have decades of total failure. The teachers of course, are pissed off. They tried to do a recall and had to call it off because they couldn't get enough signatures. If I remember correctly they only got about 2000 signatures. People are getting fed up with the unions and all of the people who receive government hand outs. Romney, at least, has a chance.

131 OT: Today is Flag Day so Frank J @IMAO has a post on the history. Here's a couple of items:

1) The American flag was invented in 1777 by Betsy Ross. At the time, the flag of the fledgling nation had only 13 stars because the rich wouldnÂ’t pay their fair share to buy more.

4) Even after the South seceded from the Union, President Lincoln would not allow any star to be removed from the American flag, although he briefly considered replacing Confederate state stars with bright orange 1969 Dodge Chargers with “01″ door decals.

When displaying an American flag, it should always be lighted. Acceptable light sources include sunlight, halogen bulbs, and rocketsÂ’ red glare.

Speaking to voters nationwide from the pivotal battleground of Ohio, President Barack Obama mounted a full-throated defense of his record on the economy on Thursday and warned that Mitt Romney would re-enact George W. Bush's policies.

"Though we will have many differences over the course of this campaign, there is one place where I stand in complete agreement with my opponent: This election is about our economic future," Obama said.

"Not only are we digging out of a hole that is 9 million jobs deep, we're digging out from an entire decade," he said.

That'll be after the SS has to pry his fingers off the doorframe and drag him to the chopper.

You can have my White House when you pry it from my cold dead fingers.

204 YIKES!

Exactly, Detroit looks more like Dresden in 1945 than Dresden did.

205 In a way, the GOP is implementing what I would call the "Rio Bravo" strategy (great John Wayne movie). Recall that part where the Duke is giving his critique of Dean Martin after he gets the murderer; specifically where he tells him the reason the he got away with it is that they weren't expecting it; the y were laughing at him. The Dims are used to a pattern of behavior from the GOP, and they're not seeing it now. They haven't a clue as to how to deal with what they are seeing.

I live in Michigan and will crawl through/over broken glass to vote for Romney.

Of course, I've been saying for 3 1/2 years that if the GOP nominates a cheese sandwich with OJ as its running mate I'd vote for that, too.

But all the "Hope & Change" bumper stickers and crap from 2008?  You only see them now on VWs and Priuses (Priusi?), underneath the "coexist" stickers.  Makes me want to run them off the road.  With kindness, of course, because I'm working on the no anger thing.

208 Somehow, SCOAMF just doesn't seem to quite capture the epic fail anymore.

Thoughts?

Stuttering, condescending, ignorant, jug eared, malicious, America-hating, delusional clusterfuck of a miserable failure.

"The poll is automated, but then, so are Rasmussen's, and Rasmussen is accurate enough."

I write telephone applications for a living. In my experience, automated systems collect better data than do live operators, because the respondents are more candid: the computer not considered to be judgmental.

Posted by: Brown Line at June 14, 2012 04:35 PM (VrNoa) Let me put it this way, Mr. Brown Line. The 9000 series is the most reliable computer ever made. No 9000 computer has ever made a mistake or distorted information. We are all, by any practical definition of the words, foolproof and incapable of error.

Michigan is in play.

And the local level looks like a lot of fun, for the "R" types anyway.

We may have come to our senses. At last.

218 192 I just have this Image of Barry being choppered out of the WH for the last time. Michelle is just GLARING at him.   I guess they'll have to return at least once, for the unveiling of Obama's official portrait.  Maybe they can enter via the back door near the garbage cans, like the Dalai Lama.
