Here:

so both home teams are favored

I live in western Massachusetts, near Amherst and Northampton. Every single fucking person around here thinks like that. And they constantly repeat their bumper-sticker-slogan opinions to each other. It's a kind of bonding ritual, like penguins squawking.
You can argue with them, you can debunk their misconceptions, you can mock and deride them. None of it does the slightest good. Their opinions aren't the product of logic, education, or reason. It's all about ego. These are the opinions Good, Smart People like Stephen Colbert have. Consequently having those opinions makes every other liberal idiot a Good, Smart Person.
Disagreeing simply means you're a Bad, Stupid Person and they can ignore you because you aren't a Good, Smart Person.
And since all these Good, Smart People are enlightened post-religious sorts, they have absolutely no moral compass. If a Good, Smart Person lies, cheats, or steals, it's perfectly all right because they are a Good, Smart Person. You can point out the corruption in the Obama administration and they don't even argue. It's perfectly okay with them.
What we need in this country? We need vouchers and charter schools to break up the NEA monopoly on indoctrinating our kids. And we need to fucking murder every single motherfucker employed by the mainstream media.

The head of Toyota was here a few years ago to dedicate a new plant located near Florence, SC. The hybrid Prius has been out about 2 years then but had only sold 2 cars in the entire State during that period.
A reporter asked about the cost factor and what could justify the Prius economically. He outright said that it could not be justified on a cost basis until gas hit $5/gallon.
This was years ago.

I'm a teacher in Chicago, and also very familiar with this mindset. Judging from the charter schools I've been in, they are no refuge from liberal indoctrination. What they can do is dump out the underperforming students and select for admission (to varying extents) the higher testing ones. The parochial schools are probably a safer bet.

That's why the Prius is loved by the lefty do-gooders and the elite of Hollywood in a way the Volt just isn't.
The Prius LOOKS like the car of the left and has a shape everyone recognizes immediately. It's a giant bumper sticker that says "I care about the planet and you don't"
The Volt is the same body as the Cruze, it doesn't immediately distinguish itself from all the other econoboxes around. For 45 grand you want everyone to KNOW that you care.
Much as I've hated the Prius over the years, I came to defend it after Ray TheHood went on a jihad against it based on some phony claims about the sticky accelerator hyped up by the MBM
Fires or not, nobody wants a 45K car that looks like a 15K car. Don't be a Dolt, Don't buy a Volt

What's surprising is how fair it is. Usually, when making a video like that, you have a tendency to want to mock each statement with hypocrisy. There are a few moments of that: "...but I don't support their mission. Ever." and the bashing of corporations while talking on the iPhone. But generally, this is shit liberals actually say. Verbatim.

There is no such thing as a moderate. That is a fake name made up by the MFM and by the liberals themselves. You are either a conservative or you are a liberal. It is like being pregnant, there is no "in between".
To the MFM a moderate is a Republican that votes with the Democrats 50% of the time. A Democrat that votes with the Republicans once a 2 year session is also a moderate.
Any Republican who votes with Republicans 90% of the time is "far right wing". And a conservative is anyone who is not an atheist.

You have the smug self-righteousness but without the humility borne of divine retribution.
You have the symbols of piety without any underlying meaning: Prius ownership, cloth bags at the grocery, "fair trade" coffee, etc.
You have the desire to impose restrictions on others: The San Francisco city council, etc.
You have the demonization of non-believers, but with no real desire to convert them. Liberalism NEEDS enemies.

You can blame the stupid CAFE rules for SUVs. The minivan and the SUV are both the answer to legislating the station wagon out of existence. Car companies have not been able to market what the public really wants since the 70s.

Yes, it was too tame. Yes, it does sound more retarded when spoken. And yes, liberals wouldn't see the satire because this is just a simple repetition of their talking points. That's why I don't think this was very effective.
Much better satire in the comments section here.

156 My favorite is that butt-ugly Smart car, I laugh every time I see one. I always expect to see a couple dozen circus clowns come pouring out.
Those things are tiny. ....Little cars like that would get lost in the potholes in the roads where I am.
I guess city people forget that not all of us get to drive on those nice, smooth concrete roads all the time.

In a lengthy New York Times profile of Ickes in 1997, Michael Lewis nicknamed Ickes "the Garbage Man" and noted that 'Ickes has been caught up in so many of Clinton's scandals and crises that he came to describe his function in the White House as 'director of the sanitation department'.

Noblesse oblige: Most of the time they like to proclaim they are "out to help the little guy". This serves two psychological purposes. First, it makes them feel superior even if, in many cases, they aren't in nearly as superior a position as they think they are. Second, it gives them a sense of power over others.
Bien pensants: Ace likes this one. Literally: "good thoughts". It's the idea that if you espouse the right views that you are morally superior. This was talked about a lot in the Clinton era. Sure he abused women and treated them like trash, but he had all the right political opinions. You'll notice the bien pensants most in Facebook-type pontifications in which the speaker doesn't want to engage in a dialogue but to be patted on the back for having made a declaration of opposition against some hated figure.
Emmanuel Goldstein: This is the (probably government-invented) villain in 1984. The Left always defines itself in opposition and they need something -- or preferably someone -- against whom they can be in opposition. Just think of the people who can send a lefty into a towering rage, people who you think they would kill if they got the chance. Just imagine the reaction if you mention: George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, Bill O'Reilly, Rupert Murdock, Glenn Beck, etc. It isn't just an opposition or a groan of disapproval but full-on white-hot hate.
Psychological projection: Liberals are, in fact, some of the most bigoted people around. They constantly judge people based on the groups one belongs to. They are the ones who see everything through the lens of race but they think it's OK because they do it with noblesse oblige. They are the ones who have the rigid unquestioned faith through their bien pensants. They are the ones seething with hate because they have to have their Emmanuel Goldsteins.
I've found that if you accuse them of one of the four things above, they usually have trouble responding.

Superbird went for 200K
For some reason (possibly the mere volume of viewers down here), my cable reception is extremely shitty. Audio is spotty and video has big black sections in it. The adjacent Golf Channel is OK, tho'.
One of the signs of Advanced Curmudgeonhood is slight wood whilst watching the auction. Backseat memories and all that...

Truman, I think that the SUV developed because of people wanting a station wagon with 4WD, so they could get the kids around in the snow and take them offroad on the weekends.

Got no problem with the sale prices on these cars. Anyone who's ever participated in or followed a frame off resto understands the effort put out. To say the car is better than factory is a huge understatement. Even at my level, it is a labor of love.

I'm keeping an eye out for a machinist job down here at a shop that does some kind of restoration (wouldn't necessarily need to be cars), and might need my services. Part-time would be fine, and I work cheap. If anybody hears of anything like that in MouseHouse country, please let me know. Something like that wouldn't really be a job.

Jeesh, you guys just haven't had the fun of driving a Prius. I put a Palin sticker in the back window when in Portlandia. You can hear the heads exploding as you drive alongside the fuckin' electric street cars. We stopped at an upscale nursery for some plants; they'd look but none of the pussies would comment. I drove it to a Willamette Valley wine tasting; but it could have been the shorts, reflector sunglasses, do-ragg and Harley Sturge tshirt that kept it on the down low. But I digress.
The sales staff is trained to pitch the leftists bullshit. During the pitch, I told our salesman to can it; we were buying it on the expectation that under the Obama Adminstration that gas prices would spike and scarcity would rule. He was stunned. I asked him if people believed that bullshit. Asked him if he had any recommendations for a home defense shotgun. Shortest closing I've been to.
