— Ace But with a twist:
Q: Senator, if one of your daughters asked you—and maybe they already have—“Daddy, did god really create the world in 6 days?,” what would you say?
A: What I've said to them is that I believe that God created the universe and that the six days in the Bible may not be six days as we understand it … it may not be 24-hour days, and that's what I believe. I know there's always a debate between those who read the Bible literally and those who don't, and I think it's a legitimate debate within the Christian community of which I'm a part. My belief is that the story that the Bible tells about God creating this magnificent Earth on which we live—that is essentially true, that is fundamentally true. Now, whether it happened exactly as we might understand it reading the text of the Bible: That, I don't presume to know.
The twist is that that isn't Senator Marco Rubio talking in 2012, that's Senator (and presidential candidate) Barack Obama talking in 2008. And Slate, yes, points that out, and chides liberals generally for pretending that liberal politicians don't do this sort of thing.
Well-played, Slate. Well-played.

Funny the tag "of which I'm a part" you only say that if you either think the person listening doesn't know or believe that you are part of said group....Or you are having dupers doubt and feel the need to oversell your inclusion in the group because you really aren't part of it.

I really do start to believe those surveys that say our benighted republic will elect a child abuser as president before an atheist. But it'll probably be longer before our even-more-benighted press asks a coherent follow-up question about literal bible interpretation.

Personally I am ambivalent about evolution. I am a Christian, and I am open to the idea of divine evolution, but I neither accept nor reject it. Whether Adam and Eve is a historical account or a metaphorical account doesn't affect the core of my faith -- the inherently sinful nature of man and the need for Christ's sacrifice.
By the way, the above response would also apply if I was asked about gay marriage and abortion. I'd say, "Those are issues for the states, not the president."

Anyway, what this goes to show us is that despite our wringing of hands that only pubs are asked these gotcha questions, it turns out that zero was asked as well (although admittedly in much softer tones, i.e., bringing his kids into it rather than just a straight out 7 word question as to the age of the Earth). And guess what, he gave the perfect bullshit politician waffle answer.
And guess what, our people should be fucking prepared to do the same!!!! Rubio's answer was perfect.
So buck up, and defend yourself against these kinds of questions. The big one will be evolution right? There is no evidence of special evolution AT ALL. All the evidence is to the contrary. But wait until the lefties go nuts on this one. It's a bigger religion for them than global warming or climate change.
SIDE NOTE: Just goes to show how dumb these hippie fucks are. Climate change is never wrong because temperatures always CHANGE. But they are stuck with their global warming bullshit. hilarious.

In other words Pythagorus (sp?) theorem is just as true today as it was in ancient Greece.

I only say it because what the Old Testament has to say about anything is basically irrelevant when it comes to Christianity in general. It's just a primer leading up to the New Testament. What the Old Testament has to say about the age of the earth and it's formation means very little in Christianity. Unless someone is really into studying the Bible there ain't a Christian around that knows what it says about the Earths age, and they don't have to know it or care about it. I got no idea what the scientific consensus is on it either, couldn't even give you a ballpark because who the fuck cares? Yet some dork that uses this shit to discredit Christians decided this was the anti-science litmus test. It doesn't even make any sense.

Read it cover to cover -- some of it even in Latin (raised old school Catholic). But by all means don't let a polite question get in the way of your valiant defense.
You sure do have a creative definition of "every thing that creepeth upon the earth" (Gen 7:
But then, I rather doubt any of my "objections" would cut any ice with you. See you during the next Big Flood. I'll be the guy in back with the beetles.

You sure do have a creative definition of "every thing that creepeth upon the earth" (Gen 7:. Though the concept of species is a tad past Noah's time I would presume they'd at least be worth a look -- at least the ones that creepeth. I admit I haven't "cracked the book" that explains how he could have ID'd them all -- much less collected them.
But then, I rather doubt any of my "objections" would cut any ice with you. See you during the next Big Flood. I'll be the guy in back with the beetles.
A little late, but hey.
You are arguing that your "impossible" scenario is the only possible interpretation of the cited verse, when the account was written at a time when the notion of "species" was not defined or used.
You are trying to argue that the only way to preserve the diversity of animals we have today, is to have a copy of every single modern species living on the ark.
One very faulty assumption you've made is to assume that the only way to have all the modern species we have today from a Biblical PoV, is to have the same number of species in the past. Never mind that many modern species can interbreed just fine - identifying what a "species" is somewhat arbitrary. I am not being creative about definitions - you are using the vague modern term "species" to make unjustified criticisms of the Bible.

Perhaps you feel a mocking tone is polite, but I'd like you to note that you're not as well informed about Biblical interpretation as you think. So to provide a reasonable answer to your polite "questions".
1. The verse does not refer to species. Your reading species into it is in error. Genesis does refer to "kinds", but these are not necessarily "species". "Kind" probably refers to animal types - think cats, dogs, birds, etc.
2. An animal "kind" can provide the genetic baseline for all modern species to specialize from. All the different breeds of dogs we have today are a single species. A single dog "kind" can encompass all the genetic diversity of wolves and dogs. There's actually not that many types of animals, and the existence of two related but incompatible modern species is not evidence against an ancestor "kind". In fact, evolutionary theory argues that ancestor "kinds" must exist, though we're talking about very different time frames for speciation using different mechanisms.
3. It doesn't seem like you read the Bible cover to cover very carefully. Gen 9:15. " ... And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh." I'm not waiting for another Big Flood, but have fun sitting in the back with the beetles.
