So, About Wisconsin...
— CAC

Marquette U has been teasing me all morning with a poll that has finally come out, showing a much better picture for Mitt Romney, both in the primary and the general election:

In February, Romney trailed former Sen. Rick Santorum by 16 points in Wisconsin, but he now leads Santorum by eight points, 39% to 31%, the poll found.
Romney has also narrowed the gap between himself and Democratic President Barack Obama, if the presidential election were to be held today and they were the two major candidates. But Romney continues to trail Obama in Wisconsin – by five percentage points in the new poll, compared to 15 points a month ago...

Funny they use "but he still trails" instead of noticing he has slashed President "Inevitable Re-Election" 's enormous advantage down to just outside the margin of error. This trend will likely continue with the primary winding down, Wisconsin bounces right back to tossup status.

Governor Walker continues to face a tight race in his recall, but also continues to lead all the Democratic challengers, beating Falk 49-45, Barrett 47-45, Vinehout 49-41, and La Follette 49-42. His favorability and approval ratings have improved as well, up from 46/48 in February to 50/45 with the former, and up to 50/47 from 47/47 on the latter.

Wisconsin voters moved measurably to the right in 2010, with a bit of pushback from the unions in 2011. They are a far cry from the dark blue crowd of 2008, and seem willing, narrowly, to keep Walker around despite all the fuss. They also seem willing to vote for having two Republican senators, with Tommy Thompson averaging a healthy lead in polling over Tammy Baldwin. Perhaps we may see a trifecta of Republican victories in the Badger State after all.

Has anyone thought of saving the state some money on a recall election?

They are going to have a primary to determine who runs against Walker.  What happens if everyone pro walker writes in his name?

Walker runs against Walker, therefore no need for a recall election and Wisconsin saves millions of dollars.

Come on fellow morons!  Let's do it!

13 Anybody but Tammy and her all gay agenda. Would be nice to actually have someone who represents the entire state, rather than a little sliver of lesbians who live in Madison and push their sexual peccadilloes into everyone's face. Maybe someone who will put forth some actual lawmaking that benefits somebody besides their girlfriends. Maybe like that.

Oh, and I'm voting Santorum, because Mittens is so, well, boring and whitebread and, um, boring.

37 We get a two-fer from Wisconsin. The unions have to sink zillions into trying to get Walker. Even if they succeed, those dollars can't go into The Marxist Cancer's pocket. If Walker wins, it destroys the unions and makes them less of a threat come November. And that is always a good thing.

68 okay that is good to know Posted by: chemjeff on the phone in SD at March 27, 2012 07:36 PM

The reason being, there is a statute or something or other that prohibits the name of a candidate from being an eligible selection on both D and R ballots.  Since he's specifically on the Republican ballot, and Democrat ballot cast in the primary with his name on it is automatically ineligible.

The latest I heard from the Governing Accountability Board was the the primary is scheduled for May something or other, and the actual recall election is scheduled for June 5th.  These incessant recall attempts are costing us a fortune.

---------------------------------
That short time between the primary and recall is actually really good for walker. His opponent also will most likely have less money than him since he gets to keep his funds

71

The Walker campaign just hit me up for cash.  Lots of extra expenses this month and I was about to say no - and then I looked out the window at the "Recall Walker" signs of the idiot libs who live on my street - and decided to toss Scott a few more bucks.  It will be well worth it to open my windows on the morning of June 6th and hear the sound of lefty heads exploding all over the state.   It's a beautiful sound, like popcorn in the microwave.

72 I'll worry more if his opponent turns out to be Barrett rather than Falk.

Posted by: Donna V. at March 27, 2012 05:19 PM (tmM1e)

73 Can anybody from Wisconsin give me any insight, Walker's numbers against Barrett make me a little nervous, is the situation in the state favoring him or is there a real shot of Barrett beating him in the recall?

Posted by: Jon at March 27, 2012 05:25 PM (hn68z)

74

Jon, Barrett makes me nervous too.  He's likable and popular in Milwaukee and I'm afraid he'll draw out black voters who have been generally disengaged by this whole recall saga.  (That's been my impression anyway - the anti-Walker protests have been 99% vanilla.  What do blacks owe to the teachers' unions?  Their kids are stuck in crap schools while the unions fight vouchers tooth and nail.)

However, Barrett has benefited from many of the cost-cutting reforms introduced by Walker when Walker was Milwaukee County Exec - a point Walker will surely exploit.  I still hope Walker faces Falk, who is a standard-issue Madison lefty hand-picked by the unions.  Rumor has it Barrett really has no great desire to be gov, that being mayor is exactly the job he wants.  I dunno - it's hard for me to imagine a pol (especially a Dem) who doesn't want more power over more people.

Posted by: Donna V. at March 27, 2012 06:24 PM (tmM1e)

75 I wouldn't take anything in that poll as even close.
The poll doesn't take any cell phone polling into account. 29% of people in the US have a cell phone for their telephone use and do not have a land line.
The 71% that have landlines are not the movers and shakers of the world and probably won't be voting or at least are not as tuned into the current events as those that only use cell phones.
