Days from the start of the Iraq War until the fall of Baghdad: 21 Days.

Days from the Benghazi terrorist attack to securing the site: 17 Days and counting.

This is absolutely absurd. Explain to me how the situation on the ground is safe enough for a CNN reporter but not safe enough for an FBI investigation team? Is it the Goldilocks of dangerousness? Too dangerous for some but not too dangerous for others?

Furthermore, why is the Administration admitting that this is terrorism treated as some sort of endgame? Congratulations, you admitted the obvious. Now, what the hell are you going to do about it.

I do as well. The speed with which it was turned into a call for suppression of free speech seemed too fast to me. On the other hand, it requires an actual conspiracy for it to *not* have been organic, and I don't think I'm ready to go there. He more than likely was close to action as it unfolded and rummaged around the scene during the action or in its aftermath and came upon the diary.

69 It's also illegal for the CIA to conduct investigations or surveillance domestically. The FBI is granted purview off all domestic surveillance and investigations. Since the consulate is U.S. soil (even though it's a foreign country) it's the FBI's bailiwick.

It never was merely a 'crime' scene, and it surely isn't now that people have been trampling all over it for going on three weeks. They went for the wrong letters: needed CIA, NSA, NRO, all that stuff, and USMC, not FBI.

I understand wanting to keep a light footprint because it might upset the Libyans to see US troops. Islam hates it when soldiers show up on 'Muslim land.' Wanting to, but not actually doing it when lives are at stake.

To simply make "no assessment," get waivers of usual security, to ignore warnings, the date being 9/11, MSM reporting from Benghazi, State Dept travel warnings even. Amazing. Hard to avoid malice at some level. And a huge cover up using the First Amendment as the scapegoat.

And if an American citizen, particularly an official is killed overseas, FBI has the discretion to investigate. FBI was sent to the USsCole, Khobar, etc, to ensure that any evidence obtained was legal to use in court, should suspects be apprehended and extradited . They are usually on the ground within 48 hours of a major incident, so the fact the no one has shown up 15 days later is very telling.

173 I expected Obama to be lousy at the job, he had no experience or training and no temprement to do it. I though Hillary would be better at foreign policy though. Good lord she's awful at this, and she surrounded herself with hapless ideologues. I've worked for a lousy female boss who hired on all her cronies and basically dominated the entire business before. It really, really sucked. Men got no promotions, knew nothing, couldn't get anything right, and were always to blame when the boss and her BFFs screwed up.

177 willow- Rice and Obama go way back. They are closer than Holder. She's not going anywhere 6 weeks before the election and even if she did it would reflect on Obama. And nobody is going to believe that she went on multiple Sunday shows to repeat the same lie that her boss supposedly knew before her. She works for Obama. There is no way on earth a Un Secretary has or should have a better brief on security than the President. Obama is in a lose lose situation. If the media continues to hound this its going to cost him points everywhere and but him back on defense.

I have no doubt Obama knew about the video on September 9th (or the 10th at the latest) when the Grand Mufti of Egypt condemned the video publicly and the Mufti's statements were carried on Egyptian television. I'm sure the Embassy noted it and I'm also sure the Embassy reported it to Washington.

As for why he continued the narrative this long, I haven't foggiest idea.

Yeah, they showed bits of it. It was in the newspaper, too. So was the Mufti's condemnnation. Garance Franke-Ruta at The Atlantic wrote about this in her timeline the morning after it happened. On 9/12. I'd been harping on this since reading about it that day.

I've also been harping on why Anne Patterson, our Ambassador to Cairo, has been conspicuously out of the picture in all this. Her embassy must have known about the Mufti's condemnation and had to have reported it to Washington if anyone there is worth a plugged nickle for doing their job. In fact she was in Washington at the time. I wonder why and when she left Cairo.
