A video blasts the left's double-standards on "misogyny."

Whether or not any of this is "misogyny" I don't know. I know the left calls it that-- when they want to divert the country's attention from the 9.1% unemployment rate. (Whoops-- that's what the independent gold-standard survey organization Gallup found it was. Obama's own Shop of Understanding Accountants found it was 8.3%, as I guessed they would.)

I'd call it "mean jokes," myself. And generally comedians (or just anyone, acting as a comic) can tell them.

Except when the left decides you can't. Then it's the Worst Thing Ever.

And yet they never call out their own.

Allah's Quotes of the Day from last night features Kristen Powers making this obvious point.

Â“ItÂ’s not true that liberals never call out people for misogyny!Â” is the refrain. Of course itÂ’s not true, and I never said it was. Many of the professional left seem incapable of distinguishing between a few blog posts and comments condemning left-wing misogyny and a full-scale war to remove someone from their job. This really shouldnÂ’t be so hard to grasp: If you hate misogyny and sexism in the media, then react to the consistent and repeated misogyny of men on the left with the same fervor that you have reacted to Rush LimbaughÂ’s sickening outbursts.
President Obama has seen fit to wade into the Limbaugh kerfuffle, even telling reporters Tuesday that LimbaughÂ’s behavior was an attack on everyoneÂ’s daughter and Â“I do not want them attacked or called horrible names.Â” Speaking of daughters, do you remember when Bill Maher said that the real name of then-20-year-old Bristol PalinÂ’s book should be Â“Whoops, ThereÂ’s a Dick in Me?Â”

While there might have been a CYA tut-tut offered sotto voce over Maher's, or Letterman's, or Olbermann's, or Shultz's, or Taibbi's nasty jokes, there definitely was not this two week long -- and counting -- Flood the Zone coverage of it.

The media still chooses what the national debate will be about. I sort of think the 9.1% unemployment rate and $1.7 trillion annual deficits are worth talking about.

Team Obama thinks we should talk about what a Big Meanie Limbaugh is, and, shockingly enough, the media agrees. Even generally fair-minded reporters like Jake Tapper agree that Limbaugh's gag is worth two weeks of "debate" about, whereas the right strained to even get anyone in the media to take notice of Maher's twat-bombs and c-bombs.

I briefly heard Rush today, who said the direct result of all this nonsense was that they essentially took away one of their most commonly used political tools: the brazen insult. He apologized because it's their go-to tactic, and if he can't use it, he's darned sure going to make sure they can't either.

Agreed. I don't mind economic boycotts at all. It's part of the free market speaking. What a company says, how it operates, the product it pitches, the device's reliability, its cost relative to others... all of this matters in my mental calculus. And sometimes price isn't everything.

Maher and anything with which he or the likes of him are associated will never get a look or a dime from me intentionally. He has free speech. I choose not to hear it and I'll punish those who use him as an advocate. There will remain enough fools to finance his soap box anyway even should it actually be just of wood.

Because they have been playing this game long before we woke up to it. These pieces they play have been on the board since the late 1800's. We didn't get in the game until Reagan, long after they had taken the reins in the media and school systems.

105 The best way to attack the far left, socialists, and Obama (well, what's the difference, really) is through humor. Saturday Night Live in 2008 pretty much destroyed Sarah Palin as a credible candidate through humor. What Conservatives need is a funny show that ridicules the far left. I know, I know, that would be harder to put on TV than an ad featuring Bill Clinton selling condoms. But hey, if we had a program like that on a major channel, or even on a good cable channel, I think it would work. The public is tired of the far-left bashing conservatives all the time. Equal time can be funny, too. I just wish there were some talented people out there who could put on a 30 minute show bashing the current crop of liberals who inhabit the White House right now.

107 But do we really want this issue to go away? It strikes me as being remarkably successful in bringing up the kind of statements this video illustrates. The Left can repeat Limbaugh's comment again and again, and our side can keep flooding the airways with old misogynist statements that didn't receive any coverage at the time. Seems like the long term strategy is to keep the "who's more sexist" meme going.
