The funny thing about comic book people is that they are shameless hucksters and always have been, always shamelessly indulging in carnival barker stunts to sell mags.
Why is Spiderman dressed in weird armor? To sell books of course. "NEW LOOK SPIDERMAN!!"
Why does he punch out Al Gore? Slap it on the cover: "WHY IS SPIDERMAN PUNCHING OUT AL GORE??!"
Anyway, I'm trying to find out why Spiderman just punched out Al Gore, but I'm sure they'll do a take-back. You know, that Al Gore was Mind-Dominated by the Leader or this is an Al Gore Clone or an Al Gore Android (indistinguishable, naturally, from the real Al Gore).
There's no way they're actually taking some kind of position -- not to the conservative side, anyway.

Eh? Some of the writers seem to have been moving that way- and this is the new Avengers group- which, IIRC, has several of the same creative team that worked on some of the ideas for the Iron Man movies (also the upcoming Avengers movie)- and they're fairly conservative, actually.
Also, even some lefties are getting tired of Gore's BS.
So it could happen.
Though I have to say, that almost reads like Joss Whedon wrote it (which would be awesome): My favorite line?

Well, yes. Also to give him a distinctive look for this particular comic.
This is part of the current Avengers iteration (I think Wolverine is in it, too?) But Spidey, without a whole lot of work, can't hang with the Avengers- it's been established too often that he's just not in their league.
Say what you will about "retconning" in comics- they're actually pretty consistent with those kinds of things. So, to get him to be able to "punch above his weight" (if I may), they had Tony Stark design him some cool Spidey Armor.

The armor is a collection of stuff Spider-man has acquired over the years for dealing with the superhuman gang Doc Ock commands. They done such stuff a fair number of times. In a recent storyline where Spidey had lost his 'spider-sense' and could no longer reflexively dodge bullets, he made up some bullet-proof armor to execute an assault.
Plus there was the Tony Stark designed costume with lots of gimmicks he had in the Civil War storyline. That was just a few years ago and went on for a good while.
And hey, it's Tuesday, so the big weekly collection torrent appears tonight and tomorrow the new issues.

I vehemently disagree. Spider-man has always fought well above his weight.
There was a great story in the mid-80s where Spider-man finds himself up against Firelord, one of the guys who worked for Galactus after the Silver Surfer. Pretty much a god. Spider-man kept him so badly off balanced and confused he couldn't muster his power and was pummeled unconscious.
The Avengers show up and Hercules is astonished to learn how Firelord got that way and is greatly impressed. Spidey leaves and when Firelord awakens, shouting fro vengeance, Hercules tells him words to the effect, "Knock it off, asshole. You lost fair and square. Lets find a bar and drink it."
Really, the only Avenger, sort of, he has to really worry about is Squirrel Girl. Really. She beat Doctor Doom and Galactus. Thanos wants to paint her toe nails. The Universe loves and protects her. She is the most unbeatable character in the Marvel Universe.

Spider-Man has kicked Wolverine's butt on multiple occasions. He's fought the Hulk solo and lived to tell about it. He once fought the entire '80's version of the X-Men and they couldn't lay a glove on him.
Don't sell him short, the Peter Parker version of Spider-Man is a badass. He's physically superior than Captain America in every way (faster, stronger, and tougher).

Also, the '80's version of Spider-man was about as tough as you'd ever see, until you get Symbiont Spidey in the... early 90's? Actually, maybe tougher, since he had the Infinity Gauntlet (or was it the Power Cosmic?) for a brief time.
As for being superior to Cap- meh. What Cap lacks in physical power, he more than makes up for in actual fightin' smarts.

They're just as irritating, too. They tell a story, finish it, and then set everything back to where it was before the story started ... just like a soap opera.
I gave up the serial comic books almost 20 years ago because of it. Still pick up the occasional graphic novel, though.

Pixar was not founded by Steve Jobs. It was a department of George Lucas' Industrial Light & Magic. Remember the Genesis Sequence in the second Trek movie? The guys behind that, especially Loren Carpenter, were the Computer Division that became known as Pixar.
Pixar was mainly in the computer and software business, making short animated pieces as demos. Pixar's Renderman was the first place most animators got to use pixel shaders, many years before the first hardware implementation. Pixar also produced the Editdroid, marketed under The Droidworks brand, an early Non-Linear Editing system for video that made heavy use of Laser Disc players for source. That was sold off to AVID in 1993.
Lucas sold Pixar to Jobs in 1986 for a whopping $5 million. Lucas was a bit cash constrained at the time due to a divorce. Jobs promptly sunk another $5 million in capital into Pixar to keep it operating while it sought create marketable products from its expertise. Disney paid Jobs the equivalent of $7.4 Billion for Pixar,making Jobs the largest Disney shareholder.

Nah. Moon Knight exists for beating up werewolves. He's done other stuff but the sole reason he exists at all is because a werewolf had his own book at Marvel for a few years in the 70s.

On the sites I use, the big 0-day set shows up on Tuesday around Midnight, give or take a couple of hours. The new books start dribbling in Wednesday morning.
The 0-day always has a fair number of items nobody posted individually on my sites and so it toss in the ones I have get an early start on seeding as I pull down the additional stuff.

You cannot copyright 'Werewolf' or rather, if you can, Universal got there first. But in 1972 the phrase 'Werewolf By Night' was up for grabs. This is also why Marvel had 'Tomb of Dracula' rather than just Dracula.
And there will never be a period of greater than two years, IIRC, without Jack Russell appearing billed as Werewolf By Night to preserve that copyright. Likewise, there will never be a longer span without a Spider-woman or Spider-girl. Or She-Hulk, of which there are currently three.
Even if there isn't anything really useful for them to do storywise, it is unacceptable to the corporate TPTB that another company could start publishing a Spider-woman comic if Marvel did not maintain the copyright.

I just use the one that includes EVERYTHING from everybody. Often there will be a much better, smaller scan than the one I acquired read at the first opportunity and the better scan becomes the keeper.
When I win the lottery I'll finally take a month off to catch up on all the spots here and there I missed a year of a series. I'm pretty much caught up on most stuff until the early 90s when the cost became too much, the industry was getting horrible gimmick obsessed, and I stopped buying comics. I'd browse occasionally so I'd be aware of the big storylines. I caught up with a lot when I started torrenting but still have a lot of material to cover

Different era. DC's best horror work was running long after Marvel was only doing reprints of stuff from the 50s and early 60s. Reed Richards appeared in several of those as a scientist/adventurer type, albeit not always named or the same name. The generic character was inspired by Russell Johnson, who did a lot of horror-SF stuff before Gilligan's Island, which was typecasting for him.
So when Alex Ross painted his Reed Richards many years later, he was referencing Kirby's inspiration. (And any resemblance by the Hulk to the Amazing Colossal Man is purely coincidence, even if both owed their origin to close exposure to an experimental nuclear weapon blast.)

My favorite comics moment was years ago, one of these typical all-a-misunderstanding battle between Iron Man and the X-Men. Shellhead's holding his own against them until Professor X uses his telepathy to knock him out.
. . . at which point the armor switches to failsafe AI mode and utterly TRASHES the X-Men before flying off with its unconscious occupant.
That's right, it turns out Iron Man is FAR more effective when he's unconscious than when he's awake. I love comics.

There is a new series, The Avenging Spider-man, which is essentially a revival of Marvel Team-up but the other person is always an Avenger. (But then, half the population of the planet seems to have been an Avenger at some point.)
One issue ended with Hawkeye explaining that he has to do stuff nobody else in the Avengers is driven to do, because other than being a really good shot, he is just a guy.

Still, he did 1-155 of GI Joe, most of The Punisher's better stuff, and some of the better Wolverine arcs. That and a couple 'Nam tours keeps him on my good list. He was a bigger influence on me growing up through his comics than some of my blood relatives.

Would be nice to have those old Mad Mags, but I do still have a couple of old Mad books from the '50's, where the running joke is "Moxie" all over everything. I picked them up at a bargain bookstore as a kid in the '60's. Pretty inscrutable stuff, until I revisited them as a stoned teenager in the '70's. KTAMMMMMM!!!!!!!
