State Department "Security" Officers In Benghazi Were Unarmed
— Ace

An exclusive from Kerry Picket, now at Breitbart.

Their weapons were in another building. After the attack started, some of them went to other building to get weapons, but all but one was prevented from re-entering the consulate.

“From the accounts I read, those guys were not ready. When the attack came that night, they had to go back to the other room and grab their weapons. Then the worse part about it was they never even returned to be with the Ambassador. One returned to be with the Ambassador with his rifle. The other two went back to where there were [sic] barracks. And two stayed in that same building where there were radios and other weapons and the safe and other stuff was there.

There were no shots fired in return. On the embassy property, just the embassy property, none of those security agents blasted a single bullet from a single pistol or rifle at all in defense of the Ambassador—nothing.”

And she has this solid. This isn't scuttlebutt.

This was the security situation Obama and Hillary engineered -- five dudes, with no time together to form any sort of group cohesion, without guns. The serious military security had been sent away in August, over the objections of the consulate's security chief.

BTW, Word geekery: Why did they add [sic] after "there were barracks"? I'm guessing it's because they think the noun doesn't agree with the verb, like the noun is singular but the verb is plural. But isn't "barracks" used interchangeably to mean both a barrack and a cluster of barracks?

If you're a military person with some word geek skills, let me know. I think Breitbart got this wrong.

Not be confused with "Barack," meaning "a stuttering cluster***k of a miserable failure," of course.

Oh, Here's Another Military Word-Use Question: "Bivouac" means a temporary camp, right? So is it used to distinguish between a more permanent, more structured camp (which is still pretty temporary)? Like a "camp" would be a more serious shelter you intend to stay in for a while, while a bivouac is a quickie thing you build overnight, en route to the place you intend to camp?

Or is it just jargon?

the sic is after "where there were".  Before barracks.

"Where there were" implies past tense..... as in the barracks are no longer there.

The proper sentence could be written :  "The other two went back to the barracks."

I hope in the near future he isn't stationed as security for an embassy.  This is morbid, but I think he'll be safer in the middle of Afghanistan.  At least he'll have another Marine watching his back.

The emails also said that it took intervention at the ambassadorial level to get the permits. I think this was for the local security staff--but still the embassy in Libya was forced to hire locals because US nationals were cut. Even though the Defense Department and a General (whose name I cannot recall) personally guaranteed that they were willing to extend the TDY's of the military US nationals.  Sounds a lot like the circumstances where some of my Brothers once lived.

...in a barracks.

...in Lebanon.

Like Libya, it wasn't really a 'non-combat zone,' if you know what I mean. (Guard hadda call to get permission to shoot...while the truck crashes the gate right in front of him. Wasn't no kinda back-up in place, either.)

I'm still pissed about that one. (I still blame Reagan, too. The Commander and Chief has the ultimate blame for that one.)

Adding more fuel to fire wasn't really necessary.

Which is why my opinion is that if you go to war against Islam, it's Total War. Kill 'em all, let god sort 'em out and then make the rubble bounce...or stay at home.

Conservatives have never gotten serious about this war. The one they declared against us more than thirty years ago.

140 It was General Ham. Transcript of the Oversight Hearing on Benghazi: *************** COL. WOOD: Yes sir, I did. I assisted Eric Nordstrom in preparation of the requests for support, in as much as they dealt with SST support. I reviewed some of those documents and a — and assisted in the preparation of those. I’d like to — I’d like to add also that there was frustration from the beginning. The initial — or perhaps this — it was the second request for extension that occurred on April 5th — Ambassador Cretz encountered some difficulty in understanding what was going on; he was getting conflicting signals from DOD and DOS. I got him together with General Ham; they worked out a complete understanding. And General Ham made it very clear to Ambassador Cretz that he could have the SST as long as he needed them. This was a great interagency cooperation, and that was made very clear to him. It was also made clear to Joan Polaschik, who took over as charge d’affaires in between Ambassador Cretz and Ambassador Stevens. He came personally, and told her that. He also had a VTC with Ambassador Stevens and reiterated that same point — that the SST was his as long as he needed them; all he had to do was request them, and General Ham was perfectly willing to provide that support. http://iissonline.net/?p=3139 ******************* For whatever reason--The State Department did not accept the security.

Along with a significant, and armed group of what we typically refer to as "local hire" guards. In Finland. Pre-September 11th. What the hell was going on in Benghazi? This is just pure insanity for anyone who lived the State Department brat lifestyle. Holy Hack, the Marines and DoS Regional Security Officer would occasionally run classes for the kids of the embassy staff on how to actively watch your surroundings, not get kidnapped, etc. Again, in pre-September 11th Finland.
