I asked this last night.

Is there any record in previous elections of endorsers switching from their previous endorsement for the winner, to dropping the incumbent, and going with the challenger?

Like in 2000 endorsing Bush, then in 2004 switching to endorsing Kerry?

Are this elections number of switchers ordinary, or out of the norm?

8 Official good morning, kids and kittehs. The late George McGovern's candidacy in '72 signaled the take over of the Democratic Party by the hard left that has remained to this day. Perhaps the former Senator's passing will be a harbinger of things to come for liberalism and SCOAMF come November 6th,

13 Repost of averages:

National:

O+0.94% - Current RCP Average
O+0.58% - Average using the 2008 turnout model
R+2.09% - Average using the D+3 turnout model
R+4.22% - Average using the 2010 turnout model
R+4.29% - Average using the 2004 turnout model
R+5.90% - Average using the Rasmussen Party ID turnout model

Ohio:

O+2.13% - Current RCP Average
R+8.61% - Average using the 2004 turnout model
O+0.74% - Average using the 2008 turnout model
R+5.43% - Average using the 2010 turnout model
R+6.04% - Average using the 2012 registration model
R+2.58% - Average using the D+3 turnout model

I analyzed the new PPP and Gravis Ohio polls, and they are insanely over weighted. Romney is winning Ohio easily, even using Obama's best case turnout model of Dem +3.

Notice the shift in Obama's campaigning? He is going to IA and NH. He is trying to deny Romney that last state, since Ohio is looking so bad for him now.

WASHINGTON — The United States and Iran have agreed in principle for the first time to one-on-one negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program, according to Obama administration officials, setting the stage for what could be a last-ditch diplomatic effort to avert a military strike on Iran.

Iranian officials have insisted that the talks wait until after the presidential election, a senior administration official said, telling their American counterparts that they want to know with whom they would be negotiating.

36 Rasmussen Polls unchanged this morning both nationally and swing states. Wish I knew why he insists on a Dem +5 turnout model when it contradicts his own numbers. Why do people assume he is a Republican? You hear him speak and he looks almost constipated when he says Romney is leading and acts excited when he thinks Obama is doing well. In the final weeks when these crazy oversamples go away Romney is going to surge hard. I believe Gallup sees this and wants to say they were the first to spot the trend.

44 For all this complaint about Romney needing to request names of qualified  women for senior positions from outside his own circle, can you imagine the outrage if he had staffed his administration exclusively from the women he did know personally? Thrifty and virtuous Mormon women from his church circle, efficient and results-driven women from his business circle, non-feminist ideologues from his social circle, makers not takers from his Republican party circle?

Meanwhile, the candidates Obama brought it from his Chicago and radical circles were so toxic and repulsive that he had to create czar posts that didn't require embarrassing Senate approval. And he had to drag in hundreds of hostile Clinton retreads to fill his undercard, because there were so few  effective and successful Democratic women running anything anywhere.

I assume the Clintonistas sent over the resumes in tidy piles wrapped with rubber bands, to avoid the stigma of binders.

76 In today's commercial republic, the freedom our founders fought for is expressed in the form of free enterprise: the system of laws and institutions that rewards entrepreneurship and hard work, largely on the basis of markets and competition. Free enterprise is what Thomas Jefferson meant by the "free exercise of industry . . . and the fruits acquired by it." Free enterprise is compatible with government in the case of market failures (such as crime) and a safety net for the indigent, but it is inconsistent with today's growing statism and corporate cronyism.

Today, we rarely hear a moral defense for free enterprise from our politicians, which is why Romney's statement was so striking. And the general lack of moral defense explains why - despite the fact that surveys find a large majority of Americans think the government is too big and trying to do too much - we acquiesce to larger and larger government from both parties. Indeed, it is why government at all levels has grown from 15 percent of U.S. GDP in 1940 to more than 35 percent today, and - according to the Congressional Budget Office - will hit 50 percent in 2038.

85 Why is Obama going to small states?

Population.  With Ohio slipping away from him, Obama's only remaining play is to deny Romney the final state he needs to go over the top.  If Romney wins NH, WI, IA, CO, NV, NM, or OR (not to mention large states like PA or MI), he wins the election.

In these smaller states, Obama might be able to swing the state into his column if he can get a few 10s of thousands to turnout for him.  100,000 more votes in all of these states could save him, where 100,000 more votes in Ohio won't.

This is why you will see both campaigns outside of Ohio during the next few weeks and in places like Iowa and Nevada.

Posted by: Dave in Fla at October 21, 2012 05:32 AM (dX4hn)

86 Third, we have to argue for the rights of the poor, and fight for the system that lifts them up by the billions. Between 1970 and 2010, the percentage of the world's population living on less than a dollar a day has been reduced by about 80 percent. What explains this miracle? The United Nations or International Monetary Fund? U.S. foreign aid? Of course not. It was globalization, free trade, entrepreneurship, property rights, and the rule of law spreading around the world.

So what is the system that satisfies our demand to let people earn their success, that is fair, and that lifts up the poor by the billions? There is only one: free enterprise.

94 My wife and I went to the premiere of "Hating Breitbart" last night. The director, Andrew Marcus, was there and we spent some time talking to him at the after party. Really good guy. REALLY good movie. It's funny as hell, and surprisingly entertaining. I'm still laughing at the recap of O'Keeffe taking down ACORN. It's SO improbable! O'Keefe walking around in his cartoonish pimp outfit, getting coached on how to hide $$ from underage hookers. So much has happened the last 4 years, I forgot a lot of the detail. I highly recommend seeing this movie, then writing a positive review on "Rotten Tomatoes." The libs are going to try to bury this film. It needs to be seen.

(AP) The event, scheduled to be held in the Pak n' Save's luxuriously appointed ladies room, was quickly filled to beyond capacity, when event organizers were forced to move the venue out of doors to handle the unexpectedly large turnout. Ms. Fluke, getting up from her knees after caucusing one event goer, a broad smile on her eager face, paused before speaking to the overflow crowd to wipe something off her chin. Tami,

Is the bird injured or just stunned? Check to see if anything is broken, if you put it in your hand will the bird try to spread it's wings? Also, it's a good idea to rinse the bird off with water, because doggie mouth germs will cause infections in birds. If it's only slightly injured you could take it to a bird sanctuary.

I have yorkie that loves to kill birds, I have a closed in deck but occasionally someone will leave the door open and a bird will fly in, but if my dog gets it she breaks its neck with in seconds.

Good luck

It is outside....on the deck.

Which reminds me of a funny story.  My daughter found an injured bird.  She found a box to put it in and went into her room to get something to put inside the box.  She came out with a t-shirt and I said, don't ruin a t-shirt get an old rag.  She said, "Mom....it's that stupid Obama shirt someone gave me.  Bird crap is all it's good for."

The pro-Romney ad was ex-Mayor/Governor/US Senator Voinovich telling voters that Obama's policy failures were due to not reaching out to Republicans  but  Romney had been a governor with an 80% Democrat legislature and he has a history of working with Democrats in order to get legislation passed.

175 Sandra Fluke, the woman at the center of a media firestorm earlier this year after Rush Limbaugh called her a “slut,” spoke Saturday in front of about 10 people at the Sak ‘N Save in north Reno.

The speech was part of a daylong futile effort by Democrats to get Northern Nevadans to the polls on the first day of early voting.

“I’m trying to do everything I can for an elrection that I feel is very important. I have a unique opportunity for how I get to do that,” said Fluke, who is coming off recent campaign trips one-nighters to Colorado, Iowa, New Hampshire and Florida as a surrogate for Democratic President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign farewell tour.

Today I noticed in little tiny letters underneath you can give ad feedback. First you had to click whether you like or dislike. After that there were about 6 choices to click on telling why you didn't like. The two I clicked were "claim is misleading or untrustworth" and the other was "this image is offensive" I doubt it will go away but it made me chuckle.

What I found striking about the first debate was the fact that Lehrer actually asked a question that included the phrase, "is that a proper role for government."   And yet that exchange got exactly zero play in the post-debate discussions.  We need to continue to stress this concept under the coming Romney administration.

205 Honestly, I don't think anyone here can say they flew 35 daylight bombing missions in a real (i.e., declared) war against a real military with serious anti-aircraft capabilities and not have their views of life and politics changed.  And before any of you morons go off about you flew raids over Baghdad in Desert this or that, I can't imagine a more terrifying combat job than flying an unpressurized 215 mph bomber, without fighter escort, in daylight, over Germany in WWII -- and do that 35 fecking times.  McGovern put his sack where no one here has ever had to, and he lived. I have no problem criticizing his politics, but unlike today's anti-war left, you have to respect the service he gave to this country, a service that -- hell, all I know is Alan West -- few, if any, sitting Republicans have done, and yes, while there is no requirement that the CinC be a vet, I recognize the term chickenhawk.  RIP George.  Glad you failed in your 1972 mission, but be damn proud of the 35 missions you flew in WWII.

254 OT-ish: Read a story yesterday about a Brit veteran of WW2 who passed away a few days ago and when he was cremated, they found almost a half a pound of shrapnel that he was carrying around for the past 68 years, courtesy of a German land mine he stepped on in 1944. Sheesh.

I've been envisioning an extension of the empty chair meme.  Something along the lines of a photo of an empty chair in the back of a pick-up truck- as in..."If you need some help moving out of the White House this January you can borrow my truck."  Maybe we could have a million truck march down the Mall in D.C.  "Be a good neighbor, pitch in and help them move."

Think of his life as a parabola (a "U" for you poets) with the 2 ends being WWII and his WSJ op-ed.  What's astonishing is that hardly anyone in '72 knew how much of a stud he was.  (Contrast LBJ, who faked earning his bronze star.  I wish he had earned it, posthumously.  IMO, LBJ is worse than Carter.)

351 I just read a story on Big Journalism that the term Romnesia has been used before... It was used by disgruntled womenz in the Mormon Church regarding Mitts counseling them re- Abortion. and how he can't remember about having done so.... Gee I wonder if this is being coordinated with old Gloria and the obama adm.?

355 RIP to George McGovern. We were for him when we were young, inexperienced kids.

To his credit, he admitted he was wrong about a lot of liberal dogma, when he saw the results of government regulation intervention on his own small business. He wrote an op-ed on the subject at the WSJ.

Exactly. We wouldn't recognize some of these "old" Democrats as Democrats any more. That's how far left they have gone...

357 I signed up to be a poll watcher.  But since I live in SC, maybe they don't care.

I should put that Traveling Wilburys CD in the player.  I haven't heard it in years.

359 McGovern's passing does feel like the end of an era. I don't hate him. IIRC, he broke with the party hacks over EFCA. I respected that. His biggest accomplishment was inducing my dad to switch party registrations, to Republican.

In ten years, Kate Upton's tits will be pointing towards her toes, and with fifty extra pounds of ass, she'll look like any other Walmart super-sized woman in Spandex.  Clunk'd clunk'd, clunk'd.

The pro-Romney ad was ex-Mayor/Governor/US Senator
Voinovich telling voters that Obama's policy failures were due to not
reaching out to Republicans but Romney had been a governor with an 80%
Democrat legislature and he has a history of working with Democrats in
order to get legislation passed.
