Super(ish) Tuesday Pre-Results Thread
— DrewM

CAC put this list of closing times together (times are eastern, I think):

GA 7:00
VT 7:00
VA 7:00
OH 7:30
MA 8:00
OK 8:00
TN 8:00
ND 10:00
ID 11:00
WY 11:00
AK 12:30

The real big question is Ohio. Even if he does well in the popular vote, Santorum is going to have trouble with delegates since he failed to file a full slate of delegates in some of his more competitive districts.

Virgina will go to Romney easily since he's only up against Ron Paul.

Georgia is going to go for Newt and the rest? We'll see.

If Santorum wins Ohio we're in for a few more weeks of Mitt limping to his still likely nomination.

Either way, my prediction is: Pain. Lots and lots of pain.

Richard Rahn, longitme Republican insider, now a fellow of the Cato Institute, and former husband of Peggy Noonan, was speaking at a political gathering over the weekend that was carried on C-SPAN. Worked in the Reagan White House, advised GHWB  (Bush 41) in his campaign.

He talked about all the Republican candidates, and discussed especially their weaknesses in their economic plans.

Ron Paul:  Unrealistic about how we go back on the Gold Standard.  Really thought his foreign policy ideas were nuts.

Newt Gingrich:  He knew Newt very well and likes him personally, has known him since 1985, thinks Newt is really smart but needs a keeper to make him stay focused.  Could not actually see him as President. Newt would have 12 ideas a day, 10 of them were trash, one would be okay, one might be brilliant.  That's Newt.

Rick Santorum:  Likes some of Rick's ideas, but the idea of not taxing manufacturing is ridiculous.  Pretty soon, every one would be claiming to be "manufacturing something".

Mitt Romney: Thought he had a lousy economic plan and wrote about it, and 24 hours later the Romney campaign had greatly improved their economic plan.  He was impressed that they actually read what he wrote and responded to it so quickly.

Why do you think Romney doesn't say anything when he's campaigning?  Anything he says that can be taken out of context will be the lead story on every news program for the next six months.

101 At some point, we need to realize that "our" guy may not win and come together and move on.  I don't see how it serves the conservative movement to have a nasty fight for the next 6 months with clownish alternatives.

Santorum and Newt are just non-starters, even if things went worse economically, those two would still lose.  And really, I have a hard time seeing how these two are really to the right of Romney, they're both Establishment DC insiders, but wrapped in a horrible package.  Newt has been a vocal proponent of federal health care mandates for decades and Santorum voted against right to work legislation.

I would have preferred someone different, but this primary is going to kill the GOP and ALL the downticket races if it's not resolved quickly.

103 I am tired. Tired of working to put food on other peoples plates that could do so for themselves, they just chose to make shitty decisions, I am tired of paying for their rent because of the same. I am tired of paying for their schools. I am tired of paying for their medical care when they skip out on the bill. I am tired of them still whining and bitching for more. I am tired of subsidizing some government bureaucrat to retire at 55 with kick ass benefits for life. I am tired of giving my money to these supposed "green" companies that go tits up after taking in billions and kicking back money to Owebama. I am tired of paying for all kinds of shit that I will never use and is of no benefit to humanity. Money to study the tufted tit mouse. Who gives a shit. To top it off I had to help pay for someone elses car through cash for fucking clunkers. Then I had to bail out GM and Chrysler directly because they can't or won't stand up to the union or Owebama (redundant I know) Then I get to pay for someone elses mortgage who made a shitty decision. No I'm not talking about someone who lost a job or got sick. I am talking about the twit who took out the max and then added 2 home equity loans and was fucking shocked to discover that contrary to Owebamas ideas you can't keep spending more thann you make. Now the cherry on this turd sundae is bailing out the people who bought shitloads of rental property and lost on their gamble. Unfucking real. So the next time some whiny bitch tells me he or she is going to stay home or write in someone vs. Barry because Mittens isn't their dream conservative candidate (which I get) I think I might just physically harm them.

Despite my sunny disposition and inclination towards lost causes (I'da voted for Perry, had he been on the ballot down here), I'm about ready to lie back and accept the fact that Romney will be the nominee.

Not sure what I'll think about, tho'

I suppose the best I can wish for is a few more Pubbies in the House and a takeover of the Senate, which I do see coming (does the Curly Howard polish of the crystal ball). Since Mitt's just a glob of political Silly Putty, maybe we can get a lot of the SCOAMF's damage reversed.

"To the pain," means the first thing you lose will be your feet below the ankles, then your hands at the wrists, next your nose.

Prince Humperdinck:

And, then my tongue I suppose. I killed you too quickly the last time; a mistake I don't mean to duplicate tonight.

Westley:

I wasn't finished. The next thing you lose will be your left eye, followed by the right . . .

Prince Humperdinck:

And, then my ears, I understand. Let's get on with it.

Westley:

Wrong! Your ears you keep, and I'll tell you why. So that every shriek of every child at seeing your hideousness will be yours to cherish, every babe that weeps at your approach, every woman who cries out: "Dear God, what is that thing?" will echo in your perfect ears. That is what "to the pain" means. It means I leave you in anguish, wallowing in freakish misery, forever.

187 Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic bishops, has released a public letter today detailing a stunning conversation he and other bishops had with top White House officials about the controversial Obama mandate. In the letter, Cardinal Dolan relates a shocking meeting :

http://tinyurl.com/7d75zzu

Dolan writes:  “At a recent meeting between staff of the bishopsÂ’ conference and the White House staff, our staff members asked directly whether the broader concerns of religious freedom—that is, revisiting the straight-jacketing mandates, or broadening the maligned exemption—are all off the table. They were informed that they are.

There you have it.

189 Dolan: “We have made it clear in no uncertain terms to the government that we are not at peace with its invasive attempt to curtail the religious freedom we cherish as Catholics and Americans. We did not ask for this fight, but we will not run from it.”

"They were informed that they are."

And they'll all believe it, right up until they get yet another unconstitutional mandate. Which will probably be right after the SCOAMF's reelection, since they'll go all in for him like they did last time.

Absolutely nothing that comes out of this administration can be believed. And if the Bishop's Council hasn't figured that out by now, they probably never will. Are they serious when they think that Ofuckup will ever stop his crusade against Christianity?

Christianity is supposed to open your eyes, not blind them. Sheesh.

195 Yeah, maybe you're thinking of select Catholics, but the Church does not go "all in" for someone it believes is protecting mortal sin.

Why the outrage? The Church has been supporting candidates who are on record as supporting infanticide.

@68

 I like you're reasoning Grim.

I would take it one step further...

This just might work.  We get Romney as our nominee and we have very very very persusive handlers ( that know MMA and carry cattle prods) make sure that Mitt doesn't say one word during the election campaign against Obama.  Ever.  Not one fucking word.  Just show up at campaign trail events...  Silence.  Appear on all the alphabet talk shows on Sunday morning... nothin' but silence.  Show up at the debates against Obama (if Obama allows debates this year)... silence.

This actually just might work.  At the very least Mitt will do slightly better than McCain.  Best case scenario... Mitt wins in a 48 state landslide.

...California and New York by law (passed in super secret after Regans landslide victory) have to give their electoral votes to the democrat party...

This will work people.  The media and Obama won't know what the fuck to do against this.   Seriously.

198 Backwards Boy

?

I think  perhaps you mis-read it.  (or did I?)

What I am seeing from the article is that the Bishops were asked to sit down with the White House to iron out the wrinkles in the mandate.  When they got to the meeting, they were told it was already wrapped up and a fait accompli.  There would be no changes.  When the Bishops asked if there concerns about religious freedom were off the table, the administration told them yes - the Church's concerns were not up for discussion.  Done deal.  Here's your hat, what's your hurry, as my grandma used to say.

I don't see the Catholic Church as buying into this in any way shape or form.

Dear Catholic Bishops,

For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk: the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up.

@217

That's just it.  It's a fucking slam dunk election year triumph!  No other election candidate could pull it off either...

Mitt would be the perfect non talking ken doll presidential candidate.

The main question is... could we have the handlers keep it going even after he wins the presidency...and could we get the handlers to silence all of congress as well.... I mean... the nations moral would skyrocket!

This can work people.

Other points of Oklahoma interest, in no particular order:

1. Tall Grass Prairie
2. Washita Mountains
3. Cowboy Hall of Fame (Wonderful Art Collection)
4. Gilgrease Museum (more art)
5. OKC Bombing Memorial
6. Bricktown in OKC

now, one of you other Okies, add some stuff, ah'm tahred...

My wife lost her ever loving mind when the loaner priest endorsed Obama at Mass. She made such a good case the local Diocese moved him along. She was chatised for not being respectful for calling him a servant of Satan in front of the congregation. She is still proud.

This is Cardinal Dolan's blog.  I posted it the other day, not sure anyone saw it. The pope finally gave permission for religious to be on the internet and he started a blog.

213 Catholics are voting for romney?  That's not a good sign as it means that the faithful is Catholic in name only.  Something that the vatican has been concerned about for a couple of years now.
