— Ace Mark Thiessen:
ere is the state of the presidential race in a nutshell: The Obama campaign charges that Mitt Romney might have committed a felony by misrepresenting his position at Bain Capital to the Securities and Exchange Commission. Outraged, Romney fires off this response:“He sure as heck ought to say he’s sorry.”
Ward Cleaver, call your office.
Not surprisingly, President Obama brushed off RomneyÂ’s request and continued to hammer him over the weekend. Obama is playing by the brass-knuckle rules of Chicago politics. Rather than calling for apologies, Romney needs grab a bottle, break it on the bar and start fighting back.
This may not come naturally to Romney, but we know he can do it.
I think it does come naturally to Romney. I think he likes going for the throat. But I think he's wary of coming off as "the bad guy."
I don't mind this slow-to-anger posture. I believe (my speculation) this is his way of preparing the ground -- noting the justification -- for what comes after.
Thiessen notes, by the way, that the race should not be a tie:
Obama is coming off of the worst three months of an incumbent president during an election year in recent memory... Three months ago, Gallup had Romney with a five-point lead over the president; today, they are at 46-46.Framed this way, the picture for Romney does not look so pretty.
No, not framed that way. But as I keep saying, I think the underlying structure of this race favors Romney. Polls will say what they say. The basic circumstances of this country are not changing for the better.
On Fox&Friends, Romney ripped Obama for running a fundamentally dishonest campaign -- one that might work in "Chicago," but not in "America" -- and added:
“If we want to talk about transparency, the real issue is, why has this president used his presidential power and executive privilege to keep the information about the Fast and Furious program from being explained to the American people?"
We'll see. I believe Romney will go after Obama with the tongs; but he'd prefer not to, for both political and personal reasons. But now that he's gotten a taste of Chicago politics, I think he's weighing when he's made enough of a case against Obama's negative campaign that he can start hitting him hard in return.

I guess I never could understand this line of thinking. Obama is the fuckface of the century in presidential election politics. Bad guy extraordinaire. Yet our side is always, seemingly, afraid of being the bad guy. W.T.F. I think it's time for some "cordial" scorched earth and beat back at this liar Chicago thug prick. Why would Mittens think of himself as a bad guy for pointing out the truth?

That means that the pie is getting smaller for all Americans, and no amount of lying from Obama can change that.
It is the message that needs to get out.

Obama is trailing by at least 2 touchdowns, and it's late in the 2nd quarter. He's throwing bombs into the end zone. Romney is swatting them down.

FWIW, there are plenty of former Democrats who are starting to sound the "Romney for President" charge. This is a fantastic post from one such voter (who just started a FB page "Romney Democrats"):
I am done being cowed, and I am finished holding my tongue. I have every right to say what I think wherever I feel like saying it. And I will be putting my new Moms for Mitt decal on my car and talking about how I think Mitt Romney is the moderate with the right business acumen we need in America at this time, that he will address the trifecta of issues that will dominate the political landscape in 2012: jobs, the economy, and deficits/debt. Buying that decal last Friday was a small step in that direction, but Davis has now given me the courage to go out and make it happen elsewhere. I donÂ’t care who it alienates. I care about getting this country back on the right track. And that is worth the risk.
I am no longer satisfied with my seat under the bus. Like Rosa Parks, I will now ride it to right it.

You know....that guy Bush, who didn't exactly 'go on the attack' with his opponents.
But I agree with Theissen.....Romney does need to go for the jugular.
He should probably wait until he gets back from Israel and Europe, though.
Otherwise....it would be a sort of 'Hit and Run' kind of thing.
Romney cannot do any attacks on Barky while he is in other countries.
This would be a huge mistake.

He's admitting that he's a communist with his quoting the Manifesto with every speech, so I'm guessing that means you're at minimum, a sympathizer.
Progressivism, or liberalism, or whatever you want to call it is pure evil to it's core. We believe in self-determination. You don't.
To quote a not so famous band (Course of Empire): "Earn your future, or perish with the land."
Your mindset will cause the land, and all those in it, to perish.

When I was in-house security in Vegas, one of my jobs, of course, was to evict troublemakers and cheaters. One of the best tactics I used was to not say anything as I was escorting them to the exits.
They'd call me every name in the book once they were outside, and the longer I stayed silent, the angrier they got. A couple of them got so angry that they started threatening my life and everyone who worked at the casino.
That's when the casino manager would call Vegas metro. Mmmm...bye bye.
I'm thinking, perhaps, Mitt is using the same tactic.

Old news. Obama's record since January 2009 is such a target rich environment that Mitt shouldn't be wasting a lot of effort on stuff the voters already proved willing to overlook the first time.
Demonizing Obama the man probably won't work, and could result in backlash. Skull fucking Obama's record- and perhaps characterizing it as the result of his inexperience- is more likely to resonate with voters.

If I were Mitt, I would wait until the second quarter GDP figures are out and use that hard data to start hammering home a different destination for America if he is elected. These Q2 numbers are looking like they are going to be bad and the Q3 numbers will come in too late to have any difference and one quarter won't make a trend if the numbers are up. But if the Q3 number is down when it is released in October, the bottom will fall out of the Obama campaign.
So, basically the strategy should be: Wait until the Q2 economic numbers are released to come out with all guns blazing with a positive, forward-looking campaign while hammering the Obama administration with their incompetence. If the Q3 numbers are up, it will not help Obama but if they are down, that pretty much guarantees the win for Romney.
Posted by: crosspatch at July 16, 2012 02:01 PM (ZbLJZ)
Mittens doesn't have it in him to be openly belligerent. He'd prefer to let the surrogates do it. And I don't know how you can think letting Obama define every issue of the campaign now is "preparing the ground" for Romney.
Basically, Mittens is playing defense, when he has to play to win. It's the same thing McCain did. But then, I'm hardly surprised, this is how the Establishment candidates always run against the Left.

There are over a dozen other villains that could have been used instead of Bane.
Nolan's "realistic" approach....is already an adaptation.
He could've adapted any one of the other villains to fit his 'take on Bats', as well.
He began writing it in 2008, right after the last election.
Romney has been running for President...for years.
It's been a foregone conclusion for years, that he would be the challenger this year.
Why release this movie, right now, in the heat of the campaign?
They could've waited a few months and released it after the election, for the Holiday Season.
When it comes to Hollywood and Politics....I no longer believe in 'coincidences'.

Just because Romney's keeping cool calm and collected, just because Romney doesn't look or sound angry, doesn't mean he isn't (as somone above put it) sticking the stiletto in deep. The astuteness of Romney, the jujitsu of Romney, is that he sticks the stiletto in (hidden in his hand, so onlookers hardly notice) precisely when the other guy is angrily and conspicuously waving around a big knife and making exaggerated stabbing moves in the air. So the other guy looks to onlookers like the violent thug, but at the end of the fight it's the other guy who's bleeding more, from deeper wounds.
As Miss Marple noted this morning,
1. In response to the president's refusal to apologize, he pointed out that the entire thing is an attempt to distract from Obama's terrible record on jobs.
2. On Rahm saying he should quit whining, he said when someone falsely accuses you of a crime, you get a bit upset. He is proud of his ethical business record
3. On business in general, he pointed out the forgiveness of government loans to political donors (Solyndra, etc.) stinks to high heaven.
4. On transparency, he pointed out the executive orders regarding Fast and Furious, which he said was unprecedented and something else (maybe suspicious).
So, he used the openings Obama gave him to talk about Obama's terrible jobs record, the fake accusations and his own excellent ethical record, the graft and corruption with companies like Solyndra, and the White House involvement in Fast and Furious.
Romney's seized the opportunity-- the wonderful opportunity presented when the Obama campaign called Romney a felon, a charge so ridiculously over-the-top and obviously false that it thereby discredits itself, weakening its own attempt to charge Romney with corruption and lack of transparency-- to point out Obama's own arrant crony capitalist corruption (Solyndra) and the suspicious, potentially criminal opacity surrounding Fast and Furious. Fast and Furious, people. Romney is talking about these things with the MSM spotlight helpfully on him-- because of this seemingly silly (non)apology story.
People complaining that Romney is just playing defense, that he's just whining that Obama 'isn't being fair," seem completely blind to what Romney is actually doing. You see the Obama campaign conspicuously waving around a big knife lunging dramatically at Romney. Romney politely points this out to the American people (look at this crazy person lunging at me with a knife)-- so that the American people take note of who the thug is in this situation. NB these knife thrusts keep missing Romney, they nick and scratch but haven't managed to hit any vital organs. You then complain that Romney isn't shouting, cursing angrily and waving a big knife at Obama in turn-- and you completely miss the fact that all the while, Romney's sticking the stiletto in, again and again, making the other guy bleed without himself looking like a thug and aggressor.

You're absolutely right, "polls will say what they say." So what does a poll say when after three terrible news months for Obama, Romney went from +5 to tied? Absolutely nothing; heckuva campaign strategy, Mitt; or ropeadope and above the fray is not a superb campaign strategy? Just asking.
Mitt definitely liked going for the jugular against fellow Republicans. But is there any evidence that he's chomping at the bit to do the same against a Democrat? And how long does Mitt need to go about "weighing" his need to do this, anyway? Wouldn't it be obvious to anyone lacking a phalanx of highly paid polical consultants that you actually have to criticize an incumbent who has a lap poodle news media backing him up, and not just a little, once in a while, if you want to win?

#255: >The Archie Bunkie guys. Man they were awesome.<
Fact: Archie Bunker was a caricature created by liberals who despised conservatives. Archie Bunker was designed to show that conservatives are perhaps well-meaning, but fundamentally wrongheaded and stupid.
Because Archie Bunker was brought to life by a talented and charming actor, the character became a very successful, "below the radar" means for ridiculing conservatism -- both to liberals AND ill-informed conservatives (who were properly repulsed by the supposedly conservative character's stupidity and racism).
I know this is obvious to most people who post here, but it may not be recognized by some.
