— LauraW Daniel Sarno of Enfield, CT was caught after sending hundreds of threatening letters to the Family Institute of Connecticut, a political advocacy organization for traditional marriage. The letters were addressed to Executive Director Peter Wolfgang, who read in court:
"Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident," Wolfgang said. "In fact, it is part of a growing and disturbing intimidation campaign among some proponents of same-sex 'marriage.' It is clear that their pretense of 'tolerance' is over."Using death threats to stifle debate is un-American. These types of tactics won't work. The Family Institute of Connecticut will continue its work to strengthen and protect marriage, life and religious freedom."
Photo of one of Sarno's threatening letters below the fold.

Now, I don't want to downplay the situation. We always have to respond seriously to threats of political violence. And monster stickers.
Still, one might be tempted to reason that maybe political disagreement is not really the root cause of this man's bad behavior.
Under sentencing guidelines for federal judges, Sarno faces 10 to 16 months in prison, though Senior U.S. District Judge Ellen Bree Burns can impose a sentence either longer or shorter than those in the guidelines.Burns ordered Sarno to report back to the court Jan. 3 for sentencing, and in the meantime to submit to a psychological evaluation.
I hope this sick individual gets the help, or punishment, he needs. Also, a basic course in graphic design.
Pink? Really??
Thanks to Tom M.

We're told it's about gays getting married, right? And that means getting a license from the state, right?
Well, in Connecticut, you're really close to New York, where it was actually passed by the legislature.
So go there and get the license. This whole push is just weird and creepy.

I think I actually figured it out, but it's hard to put into words. So excuse me if this rambles a bit.
There are two views of our Rights- that they're Natural (granted by God, or the Universe, or whatever) and Government exists to protect them, or that they're man-made and only exist to the extent Government says so. Liberals more-or-less subscribe to the latter theory, conservatives to the former.
Marriage is a Natural thing. That is, it has existed in more-or-less the same form for as long as we have records, it is supported by nature (even if you don't believe in God, the species can only propagate itself through heterosexual relations, and the permanent pairing of man and woman provides vast advantages to both). Thus, if Rights are Natural, and protected by Government, then the "Right" of marriage is a Natural one, which is simply formalized by any religious/social acknowledgement, and is to be protected by Government.
On the other hand, if Rights are not Natural, the Government can grant whatever rights it wants to whoever it wants. In this view, to prevent any two people (logically- no matter their status, same sex, adult/child, whatever) from getting married is denying them a Right that others are provided by the Government
That is: it's a weapon in the Big Government wars. Just like making health care a "Right" means the Government gets to make decisions about your health care, making Marriage a man-made "Right" means the government has more control over what is a "legitimate" marriage.

Most people could care less if you're gay. What they do care about is having your sexuality shoved in their face and being told that if they don't approve and affirm everything about your lifestyle they are bigots.

[Had a friend on FB, a psychologist, who was on Chik-fil-A because gay teens are five times more likely to commit suicide.
[/i]
This always irritates me. The assumption is that the gay teens committed suicide because of something to do with their gayness. No one ever asks:
A) Could it have been unrelated to their sexuality? Failing chemistry and flunking out of high school doesn't usually have anything to do with being attracted to the same gender.
or
B) Were they REALLY gay, or did they "come out" as gay because of some underlying psychological issue that they couldn't interpret (depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, what have you), and so they decided that their internal confusion must mean they're gay. OR they didn't know how to get the kind of support and attention they desired for an unrelated issue, so they came out as gay to get that support. And the support failed them.
It's the whole "correlation does not equal causation" thing, and it irritates the hell out of me. It's absolutely possible that teens who identify as gay and who commit suicide do so BECAUSE of an issue related to their sexuality (teasing, hazing, disapproval), but there are other reasons, too. Everyone just ignores those other possibilities.

Meh, not so much offensive for me. But because the courts cannot be trusted, we will end up having public accommodation forcing people to participate in same-sex weddings commercially.
Also, we will get polygamy. Something about the state not having a compelling interest in denying somebody the right to marry two people.
And, of course, it continues to feed the notion that marriage is something that the geriatric do. We actually do have a problem with marriage in this country in that the people who should be marrying -- because if they don't it effects all of us -- aren't doing it.

Meh, not so much offensive for me. But because the courts cannot be trusted, we will end up having public accommodation forcing people to participate in same-sex weddings commercially.
-------
The 'offensive' part...is demanding that we re-define an institution of society that has been around for thousands of years.
It's a way to force the idea that....'homosexuality is Normal'.
This goes beyond tolerance.
This is forced propaganda of an Idea.
....And also a 'forced acceptance' of an Idea.
And it is an Idea that a lot of people just can't accept...no matter how much they try to force us to.
The parts don't fit.
It requires us to accept a deviation from our basic biology.

OT, but speaking of threats, got this from the Fox News story linked at Drudge about possible anarchist violence at the 'Pub and Dem conventions:
The bulletin mentions possible violent tactics anarchist extremists could employ, including the use of molotov cocktails or acid-filled eggs.
"Acid-filled eggs?" Who the hell goes through the effort of filling eggs with acid? I get that they'd like to use eggs because they break easily and can be thrown with accuracy. But Am i the only one who thinks that's a little too labor intensive? You ahve to empty the eggs first, then fill them with acid, then transport them to the venue without breaking them. All for, what? Five minutes of acid-egg throwing, culminating in jail time?
Mind you, I expect the kind of Occupy idiots likely to try such tactics would end up spilling acid all over themselves and spending the entire convention week in a hospital crying for their mommy.

Friday evenings are when my paycheck comes in, and I can go use the free WiFi at McDonald's for a few hours.
Until the kids complain about me to the manager, and he makes me get out of the PlayPlace ball pit.

The Committee for Convention Appearances nixed the acid-filled-egg idea, anyway. The Dummer's Circle Subcommittee brought up a good point when they asked about where we're supposed to get the money to afford only organic eggs from free-range, cruelty-free chicken farms. Then the director of the Vegan Chamber of Ethics started a big "mic-check" over how eggs were basically stealing from chickens, and the next thing we all knew, we were mic-checking our agreement to only use plastic eggs like they have for Easter.
You can't find those things anywhere right now. Besides, why on earth would I waste my perfectly good acid on a bunch of Two Party Elitists?
Let them score their own tabs.

Not only that. Acid eats egg shell. You wouldn't be able to keep an egg filled with acid of any strength for very long. Ninja's used to use eggs as weapons by filling them with ground glass and shards which were then thrown in the eye's of enemies. But otherwise an egg is very impractical.

I foresee some mordantly hilarious "work accidents" next week as the anarchists organize their weapons brigades. That or steady, driving rain diluting their "acid eggs" and snuffing their Molotov cocktails.
And where do they get this acid? The Muslim Men's store?
