Her version of “why we lost”:
Romney lost because he was running against an incumbent, was beaten up during a long and vicious primary fight, and ran in a year with a very different electorate from 1980
She also claimed Romney was the most libertarian candidate since Silent Cal. She is full of shit on just about ¾ of this article.

Now hereÂ’s the rub folks who are not familiar with SC law. Yeah, its an old law and unfair as hell. I personally have been caught up in one of these raids. First off SLED will not make a raid unless someone files a complaint. (The one I got caught in one of the guyÂ’s wife filed a complaint because her unemployed husband was losing all the grocery money she earned.) Second, the fine for the gamblers is only $20 (at that time) and it is a misdemeanor. Do you really want to carry this all the way to the State Supreme court?

Today is Thanksgiving in the United States of America
Looking beyong politics for a minute, this is a great country full of wonderful people. It is remarkable at times how kind and generous people can be sometimes. A little good and good cheer can brighten anyone's day.
I'm sure most of us have something profound and worthwhile to be thankful for today. All is not lost.
Yet.
Whether the present political foolishness will bring us down or we will overcome it is a question that won't be answered today. I know that many will be with family and friends today, so be safe and happy in your travels.
For those alone today, you are not forgotten. God be with you also.
So I hope all you turkey rapers enjoy the day.

Made the mistake of reading the VDH piece this morning. Can't tell if he's being slick and sarcastic or starting down the squishy Surrender Monkey path already being walked by Hannity, Poppin' Fresh, Kristol and other eunuchs, but the whole "Choom Boy won, so give him whatever he wants" idea is almost as terrifying as the basic "Traitor-in-Chief Gets a Second Term" clusterfuck itself.
At least in theory, our government was designed to keep would-be third-world tin-pot dictators like Osama Obama from running roughshod over the people. Even with cretins like Cryin' Boner and Bitch McConnell on "our side," there's still an outside chance we might survive, thanks to the Founders.
Does VDH want to give that up?

Good morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes. And thanks for the news, Vic.
ItÂ’s certainly hard for me to give thanks this election season, since IÂ’m always looking on the dark side, but I hope you all have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving. In honor of the day, IÂ’ve got a long, chewy story here, so enjoy it with a morning coffee or come back to it later today with a little shmear or leftover turkey and mashed potatoes:
If you’ve seen the 2001 film The Cat’s Meow, you may be familiar with the name of Thomas Ince. If not – well, Ince, as a recent biography calls him, was “Hollywood’s Independent Pioneer.” Prior to Ince’s advent, moviemaking and distributing was still a rough and ready effort; after 1910 it became much more streamlined and efficient, thanks largely to Ince’s visionary view of what a producer should be. In fact, it’s no real exaggeration to say that Ince created the modern role of a producer; realizing that movies were a business like any other, he built the first major Hollywood studio (located in modern-day Culver City and nicknamed “Inceville”), which combined under one roof every department and most major outdoor locations that a studio could need.
So let’s begin. . .the year was 1924. Hollywood was still trying to recover from two scandals: the 1921 rape / murder trial (the first of three attempts by a crooked D.A. to nail the fat man) of Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle and the 1922 murder of director William Desmond Taylor. Ince, contemplating a merger of his studio with Cosmopolitan, the studio bankrolled by newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst to showcase his mistress Marion Davies.* November 7 found Ince aboard Hearst’s yacht Oneida to celebrate his 44th birthday and discuss the upcoming merger. On November 19, he was dead.
What happened to this young, strapping man? The truth was heart failure, brought on by ulcers, indigestion and, above all, overwork. But the legend? Ah, the legend was so much more intriguing. According to the actress Eleanor Boardman, Toriachi Kono, a PA to Charlie Chaplin, told people Ince had been carried off of the Oneida on a stretcher – with a bullet hole in his skull!
Hearst, it seems, was violently jealous of Davies and resented the attention being paid to her by Chaplin, his spies reporting that the two were having a heated affair. The newspaper tycoon, it was said, decided to have both of them on board so that he could see for himself if any hanky-panky was going on. From there, three stories result: 1.) Hearst caught Chaplin and Davies going at it like rabbits, shot at the Little Tramp, but missed and hit Ince instead; 2.) a hapless Ince drank a poisoned cocktail intended for Chaplin; 3.) Ince himself made a pass at Davies and was shot by Hearst.
Then, to prevent another Hollywood scandal, Hearst bribed or threatened every guest on board and paid off the coroner in order to have InceÂ’s body cremated without an autopsy. InceÂ’s widow, itÂ’s told, was set up for life with a trust fund while struggling columnist Louella Parsons was guaranteed a column for life if she kept her mouth shut.
And thatÂ’s the end of Part One. Have another splash of coffee or bite of sandwich and come back a few posts from now.

And the shitter was even after I finally got off of shift work I went on the Emergency PLan on-call schedule and the way the rotation worked, if you had on call during the week of TG you had it for the week of Christmas too.
And if you were on call you could not drink or leave the area. (or even be alone with kids who needed looking after)

Welcome back to Part Two of the Thomas Ince murder scandal. So you read the story. WhatÂ’s the truth? LetÂ’s go through those three versions I mentioned before:
Hearst caught Chaplin and Davies together:
Hearst and Davies certainly were having an affair – one that lasted until Hearst’s death, but they didn’t marry. Not because Hearst wouldn’t marry, but because his wife refused to grant him a divorce. Chaplin and Davies, however, were not. She admitted to the writer Adela Rogers St. Johns that Chaplin did flirt with her, but he was considered “harmless” – and besides, she, as well as every other Hollywood power player, knew that Chaplin’s taste ran to pre- and barely-teen pink rather than full-grown women.
Ince drank a poisoned cocktail:
Ince was seen to be distressed after drinking a birthday toast, but, as pointed out earlier, he had ulcers and acute indigestion which champagne only aggravated. His wife, Nell, told St. Johns that Ince admitted he drank the champagne only because Hearst had toasted him (so one would think Hearst would have noticed Ince drinking from the poisoned cup and stopped him).
Ince made a pass at Davies:
Let’s let the lady speak for herself: ‘Ince would have had to have what Freud called a death wish to give me a wink on a yacht which has as much space and privacy as a barrel. Tom Ince was a very ambitious man. He wanted something from W.R. – you know everybody always wants something from W.R. . .why would he take such a million-to-one chance? Ince was devoted to his wife and family. If he cheated he was damn discreet about it. No no – I could still recognize when a man gave me the eye and Tom Ince didn’t. Moreover I would not have given it back to him, so why would W.R. get mad enough to murder him? It’s plain silly.’
But what about Mrs. Ince and her trust fund? I hear you cry. No such thing, I’m afraid. Ince’s death left his wife quite wealthy and she used the money to dabble in real estate, eventually buying property on Franklin Avenue to build the magnificent Château Elysée hotel (now the Church of Scientology Celebrity Center).
Louella Parsons and her perpetual column? No luck there, either. She was made motion picture editor of HearstÂ’s New York American in 1923, almost a year before InceÂ’s death.
The cremation without an autopsy? San DiegoÂ’s DA said he was satisfied that Ince died of a heart attack, and since the death was due to natural causes, there was no reason for an autopsy.
But he was taken off the yacht with a bullet in his head! No, again. Ince was seen to walk off the Oneida. He was taken from there to a hospital, but that was to treat the exhaustion and indigestion that were rapidly turning into a coronary thrombosis.
So why did Toriachi Kono say Ince had been shot? Well, to tell the truth, we don’t have any first-hand report of what Kono might have said. The only one who repeated his story was Eleanor Boardman, who only said she had heard from someone else that Kono had told the bullet story. What is more likely is that Kono’s comments were taken out of context or distorted through “Chinese Whispers” (sorry); it would be natural for Kono to be affected by Ince’s death, as Ince had been instrumental in casting Japanese actors such as Sessue Hayakawa and Tsuru Aoki in leading roles; with him gone, that chance of advancement was very much lessened.
So the cover-up was that Ince, this “young, strapping man” was a physical wreck. No-one knew, of course, because knowledge of Ince’s health would have caused investors to be leery of an Ince-Hearst merger.
Not that the story trumps the legend. Even Patty Hearst fell for the legend, using it as the basis for her 1996 potboiler novel Murder At San Simeon.
Have I bored you enough? Well, lucky for you, hereÂ’s where the story stops. Hope you all have a wonderful day. Thanks to all you Morons and Moronettes for giving me a place to rant and ramble. Thanks to all the cob-loggers who keep things tidy at the HQ. And a big thanks to the Head Ewok for pulling it all together.
To paraphrase a Jewish blessing – may you all be inscribed in the Book Of Life for another year.
God bless you all.
*Marion Davies, it should be noted, was regarded by her Hollywood peers as a very talented light comedienne. Hearst, however, believed comedies mocked her and wanted her cast only in

That's an interesting question, Vic. I suspect it was because Arbuckle had already lost a huge amount of money defending himself and, perhaps, thought that attacking the DA might hurt his chances for a comeback. As well, he was violating the Volstead Act, so suing Matt Brady might have left him open for Prohibition violation. I know someone who is very well up on the case; I'll ask her and see if I can get an answer.
