THAR SHE BLOWS! Romney To Start Running Ads In Pennsylvania
— DrewM

The White Whale....she lives!

The Republican presidential candidate is making a final-week bid to defeat President Barack Obama in territory long considered safe for Democrats. No Republican presidential candidate has carried the state in nearly a quarter century. Recent polls suggest the race there is close.

Republican officials with knowledge of the plan report that Romney's campaign will begin running ads statewide as soon as Wednesday. The buy includes the expensive Philadelphia broadcast market, where Romney's campaign was reluctant to invest earlier in the month. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss campaign strategy.

Team Obama reacted to the move with mature insight. Nah just kidding, they lied and made fools of themselves.

"They understand that they're not going to win in Ohio so now they're getting desperate," Messina said. "They are not close in Pennsylvania. We are going to win Pennsylvania."

David Axelrod, Obama's senior campaign adviser, said the Democratic ads are a "precaution."

"We're not going to surrender any state to them in terms of airways," Axelrod said. "Make no mistake about it. This isn't a sign of strength on their part. It's a sign of weakness. They're looking for a way out."

Sure guys, sure. Romney expanding the map is weakness but Obama sending Bill Clinton to Minnesota is a sign of....wait THAT'S a sign of weakness. Oh and VP Choo-Choo train was supposed to go campaign in Scranton but the trip was cancelled because of Sandy.

Here's the Romney ad aimed at the fickle teases we call Pennsylvania voters.

Note: Normally CAC would do this post but he's at the doctor because, um, it's going to last for more than four hours (IYKWIMAITYD)

8 Even if he doesn't win Pennyslvania or Minnesota, this spreads the field enough for the game-winning score. Obama's having to pour $1M+ into Pennyslvania and $600K+ into Minnesota. That's money and attention not being focused on Ohio.

Looking forward to a short night on 11/6.  There's no reason Romney and Smith both can't win.

Looks like Scott Brown sees no reason to reschedule last debate and Warren has reversed her opinion and now is begging for another debate.  Read into that what you will.

Obama supposed to be in downtown Cincinnati tomorrow.  Let's snarl up workday traffic on Halloween, why don't we?  Romney will be up in Boehner's district in West Chester.

31 I seem to remember in my youth that the news was mostly about events that took place and investigations, not reactions by politicians, predictions of coming events, and polls. Isn't that what "news" means? Something new, an event, something to report on because people don't know?
Blogging tends to be reactive, analytical. That's where responses and polls and stuff go, opinion pages. But the front page should be about things that happened, not "things politicians and experts say about what happened." That's not a news story, that's a small part of a news story.

“Sources have confirmed that Hurricane Sandy, now buffeting America, was instigated by highly advanced technology in the possession of the Resisting Iranian regime and in coordination with our [Syrian] Resisting regime. These same sources have confirmed that there are experts in Syria who have contributed to this effort. This is punishment for those who attack Assad’s Syria.”

138 Admiral Lyons on Benghazi http://tinyurl.com/9tfmorf Having been in a number of similar situations, I know you have to have the courage to do what’s right and take immediate action. Obviously, that courage was lacking for Benghazi. The safety of your personnel always remains paramount. With all the technology and military capability we had in theater, for our leadership to have deliberately ignored the pleas for assistance is not only in incomprehensible, it is un-American. Somebody high up in the administration made the decision that no assistance (outside our Tripoli embassy) would be provided, and let our people be killed. The person who made that callous decision needs to be brought to light and held accountable. According to a CIA spokesperson, “No one at any level in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need.” We also need to know whether the director of CIA and the director of National Intelligence were facilitators in the fabricated video lie and the overall cover-up. Their creditability is on the line. A congressional committee should be immediately formed to get the facts out to the American people. Nothing less is acceptable.

145 Campaigns don't make multi-million dollar investments into states to just thump their chest.

Do you see Obama throwing up a few million in ads in say Arizona?

My guess is the Senate race where the Republican has spent millions has tightened up the electorate considerably.  The War on Coal has also finally been revealed as a real threat, not something in the abstract.

If PA can elect statewide a Republican Senator, Governor, and lopsided Republican legislature, why can't it also go Republican for the Presidency?

The voter id law staying though would have likely sealed the deal.

Note about Romney in PA...

While he might just now be ramping up ads, the campaign has been an active player in PA.  I'm a local GOP poll coordinator, and they've been active for months.

The Romney campaign is providing the apps that allow our poll strikers to use smartphones for GOTV. Every county GOP committee has been working with the Romney folks for months. on this.

Imagine all that money coming in for Katrina....then Joplin tornados hit but you cant use Katrina money for Joplin....oh no...you have effectively tied their hands. Most resource dollars come in during an event....plain and simple......then it tapers dramatically....yet red cross still helps victims of home fires etc. All Im saying is that Red Cross is not the evil org portrayed during Katrina.....They do great work when no ones looking.

That's another funny thing about internals.  Candidates know they're going to lose, so it takes the wind out of their sails, but campaign managers are more interested in getting more of their voters to the polls IN SPITE of the fact they know they are going to lose.

It's good for their resume, and it helps their employability for the next election cycle.

Listen, I've got a lot of experience with power outages out here in the philly burbs. Number one rule: never assume that someone else has called in the outage. If you haven't already, do so now-- the number is on your bill. We once went 56 hours before someone finally called it in. It got fixed within the hour. Everyone thought someone else already called.

She neglected to mention that the can goods etc collected could go to food pantries and churches within the disaster area. She also neglected to mention the Romney campaign's numerous requests for people to give to the Red Cross.

Her final point shows her abject stupidity. She mocked Romney for collecting goods in Ohio, because it wasn't effected by the hurricane. You don't collect the relief stuff from the victims you ignorant slut, you collect it outside the disaster area and deliver it. OMG what a f-cking idiot.

This is the media desperately hoping to influence independents, knowing that registered Dems are switching to Romney by 9% or staying home. This is how they reinforce how presidential Obama is v. Bush during Katrina or Mittster Roboto. Example: "Obama will make a very presidential announcement, but not live." By contrast: "Romney holds a relief event, but refuses to say whether he will cut funding for FEMA." I can't wait till these fuckers get exposed as the treasonous lying crooks they are. Though I live on Brooklyn, I feel this hurricane was God cock punching Sodom and Gamorah aka NYC DC with the old 1, 2. The follow up will be delivered by the voters next week.

290 Why didn't McCain run ads like this?

This quote was available 4 years ago.

Pennsylvania and West Virginia were coal states 4 years ago.

Four years ago, anybody with sense knew that Obama was a

* redistributionist,
* anti-energy,
* anti-American,
* infanticide-approving
* leftist.

But we had to watch while Obama proved himself even worse than that, by

* bowing low to Arab and Asian despots
* humiliating the Israeli prime minister
* appeasing the Russians by snatching missiles away from the Poles
* appeasing the Ayatollahs by refusing to support freedom-loving Iranians
* issuing illegal executive orders
* grandstanding narcissistically on the courageous acts of those who killed Osama
* borrowing and spending our country into unimaginable debt in order to benefit his political cronies
* pushing through Obamacare on an entirely partisan vote
* refusing to defend  U.S. laws in court, including the Defense of Marriage Act
* suing states to protect illegal aliens
* unilaterally ordering the deaths of American citizens in foreign countries
* labeling a terrorist attack "workplace violence"
* selling guns to Mexican drug lords and covering up his mismanagement through executive privilege
* mismanaging our economy through ignorant policies and punitive regulations
* refusing to seek the punishment Black Panthers who menaced voters
* sacrificing a U.S. ambassador and CIA operatives to terrorists in order to protect his own political prospects, and then covering up his actions
* having a U.S. citizen arrested because he created a video that committed blasphemy against Islam

We will never see a worse president if we live 500 years, so incompetent, selfish, arrogant, power-loving, Constitution-hating, cowardly, cold, lazy, pretentious, lying, and law-breaking is Barack Obama.

Romney and Obama spending money in PA is a good sign...for us.  It means the Prezzy in on the defense because his firewall is on fire.  The only question now is how big of a win will Mitt have?  If PA and MI go his way (OH is already in the bag), it could be massive.

Hopefully the end result will be more Rs winning on the undercard.

308 I live in Western PA. I've been saying this for weeks. In the last week, if the battle is developing in PA and MI, O has lost. If it was in VA and FL, O has won. Where are the new ads going up? Here's the kicker--I suspect that one of the Rs will appear in the Philly suburbs and Pittsburgh this weekend--that will be the stake through the heart of the vampire that is O. This is all about the composition of the Senate at this point--it's time to send Harry Reid to oblivion.

309 They likely will run the coal ad in Western PA, and a "work across the aisle like I did in MA" in Eastern PA. R is really the most ideal Repub candidate for PA in years--loves coal, and can work with Dems. This could be the IN of 2012.

312 Philly turnout will be down for a variety of reasons, one being that even though the voter ID law was delayed, you still can ask for ID at the polls. That will deter a lot of mischief. Additionally, the voter rolls were purged, much like Cuyahoga county in OH. This is going to be close in PA.

331. OR...simply...Obama won 57 percent in 2008 he is at 47....THAT IS PATHETIC....47 plays over and over and it is becoming Obamas' reality.  Oh and JDP...the weed initiative in OREGON is DOWN in the polls by double digits....just to let you know.  The Weed thing is hurting Obama and Johnson...sorry.  Obama is tanking in Blue States...he may win them but the numbers will way way down....which means in total votes Obama is losing millions...he is down 12 percent in California as well....being at 47 percent for an Incumbent in a liberal state like OR is a disaster....in MN he is also at 47 percent again for an incumbent that is a disaster.  Who does not know Obama?  WHO?  Undecideds are those that heva decided against Obama but they have to see if the will vote for Romney.  Undecideds will break at least 3 to 1 to Romney...which is very bad for Obama....

Mitt has the money and spreading it to MN, WI, MN and PA is A GREAT THING!!  You never use money in a losing state but you will to defend a state...like Obama in MN and PA....does anyone with a brain think that Obama wants to spend money there...HECK NO!  He is already down in fundraising and his calls are more and more shows he is desperate for cash.  Romney is raking in millions already over 30-40 million more than Obama...and that does not include the SuperPacs....Remember Restore our Future just purchased over 2.1 million in ads in PA, 2 million in MI and 1.6 million in WI....we know Romney bought ads in MN and is looking at MI as well....Ann Romney is off to WI as well.  Paul will be in WI all day on the 31st before going to CO.  I think you will see Mitt make some stops in PA soon and possibly MI....

Spin is spin...but as Mark Helperin said this morning...OBAMA is playing defense now in MN, PA. WI and MI....that is not good for an Incumbent in any place.  GO MITT!!!  Love the Ad....and I so proud to see you taking it to Obama in the Blue States....when you see Obama losing over 50 percent of his lead form 2008 in Liberal Big Blue States like Oregon and California that tells you how soft his support is in closer blue states!!

331 Remember the Univ of Colorado model? "Putting these pieces together, clearly President Obama is in electoral trouble. To be sure, he enjoys some advantages. First, Obama's successful campaign in 2008 gives him a substantial leg up. He can lose some states that he carried four years ago without losing the election. Second, a prominent second-term incumbency advantage should prove advantageous. Still, the big issue is the fragile economy. With an unemployment rate in excess of 8%, Obama is about two-and-a-half points beyond the break-even point for a Democrat running as the in-party candidate… The states we predict President Obama will carry include a substantially reduced set than those he carried in 2008. This is supported by the fact that no states won by McCain are predicted to flip to Obama. What is striking about our state-level economic indicator forecast is the expectation that Obama will lose almost all of the states currently considered as swing states, including North Carolina, Virginia, New Hampshire, Colorado, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Florida. Three other states that might be viewed as swing states — Michigan, New Mexico, and Nevada — are predicted to stay in Obama's column. Our forecast is that the president will receive 208 Electoral College votes, putting him well short of the 270 needed to win reelection." Who's laughing now?

Yeah, of course the Dems are going to latch on to that. Team Obama has to (and will) milk Sandy for all it's worth-- what else do they have?

NB It's now reported that Obama's doing a photo-op tour of NJ with Christie.

But what exactly did Christie praise O for-- what did O do that was so "outstanding"?

He monitored the storm from Washington, he talked to Christie on the phone at midnight, and he "expedited the designation of NJ as a major disaster area."

Wow! Amazing stuff, above and beyond the call of duty! I mean, credit to Obama for, like, doing his job.

My own speculation as to why Christie is being overly effusive in his praise for Obama is this. Maybe Christie now feels he might've gone a bit too far (at least appearance-wise) when he publicly rebuked the Atlantic City mayor. The rebuke might have been deserved, but such a harsh public embarrassment of an African-American Dem politician at the height of the storm, might have come off a bit... partisan.

So now Christie is (over)compensating by being all super-bipartisan and full of praise for Obama. A bit of political (over)correction, maybe.

338 I don't think I've ever seen such a look of misery and dejection on the face of my daughter as I just did a moment ago.

I sat down with her on the sofa and (as calmly as I could) tried to explain to her why the Republican Governor Christy wants to cancel Halloween. I tried to keep my voice steady, but it became increasingly difficult - the rage and feelings of helplessness were just too much. She could tell something was wrong. I found myself at such a loss for words - nothing made any sense; nothing makes sense anymore. I finally had to admit, " I just don't know - I don't know what's going on in this country anymore..."

When I finished her lower lip started to tremble and her eyes began to fill with tears, "Mommy" she said, "why are the Republicans doing this to the country?" Well, that was it for me: I finally fell apart. I just fell into her arms and we both began sobbing for several minutes. She had to comfort me and get me back on my feet. Sometimes I just think itÂ’s too much, but seeing the strength in my daughters voice helped me to get through.

339 PS IMO Team O's attempt to politically milk Sandy is likely to backfire.

Between them & the MSM, it's likely to come off as too blatant. O's likely to look useless next to the govs/ mayors. He doesn't do "empathy" very well (he can't fake it as well as Clinton). Too obvious that one side (the Dems) are trying to politicize the tragedy. In that respect, Christie's praise (by comparison) will make Dems' nasty remarks (like Andrea Mitchell') look petty, nasty, small.

Team O is already playing to a skeptical audience out there. At this point, trying too hard to look 'presidential' (between Sandy and the Osama movie)-- juxtaposed with Benghazi etc.-- is just as likely to turn off more people.

Maybe just wishful thinking on my part, but Team O is so desperate at this point, they're likely to overplay whatever hand they think they've got.
