The Flag is at Half Staff- Gaming Thread
— Gang of Gaming Morons!

Herro Errybody! Zakn Here with your "weekly" Gaming Post. Going to move it to Saturday to evade the NFL Post,

It's Been a pretty Morose week for me in Gaming. We lost one of our own. Ace has posted about it, but We lost Vile Rat. Vile Rat was the Right hand man for Mittens. He headed up Corps Diplomatique, which has been instrumental in the formation of the CFC. Vile Rat was able to assemble most of the English Speakers in Eve and Blue (ie not shoot) them to each other and provide a Flag to fight under.

He created an atmosphere where say Gents culture is vastly different to say FCON Culture, we will sill fight to the death to defend each other.

More Below the fold I had only Interacted with Vile Rat on Kugu, an out of CCP influence forum (Because who the fuck wants to post in a Company moderated forum). He was a class poster and person.

Anyways I'm still Sad Panda. So Some Tributes.

To give you an idea on size, each of those bubbles are 26km wide. We lit 200 Cynos (or Candles, as we call them)

"All these beacons lit up, but the one pilot we want won't be jumping hom
e to them." - Lex Kotose

I was depressed by the loss, And My Alliance Leader told me the Equivalent loss. It's fucking devastating. If you think I'm wrong Listen to Mittens. SoTG> Audio is at the bottom.

I can only imagine losing your Right hand man of 6 years bites it. Fuck. Anyways friends. I'll see ya'll.

So here's the Map Vile Created. The west is Blue from Thorn to Convicted. We are a United front.

RIP Vile

2 As to Barry McGuire's "Eve of Destruction" in the sidebar, I don't know what's weirder; the song being introduced by Jerry Lewis or the Jap subtitles. WEIRD.

3 Ok, I didn't understand about 85% of this, (you gamers talk in acronym code like the military guys).....but I get the gist of it.  RIP indeed, Vile Rat.

8 I kinda lost track of gaming after Pac Man fizzled out.

So I don't understand a word of what you're saying, but I too mourn the death of this man, who appeared to be a true patriot and loving man.

18 OT, and sorry it is so early, but for those who gave such good advice on the previous thread Told him the punishment just now. He did not argue but his eyes "popped" especially at the dog poop and bathroom cleanup duty. Thanks guys for the support. I was up all night entertaining the worst fears. Naturally he did this when hubby is coming home from London so I had to deal with it by myself. Probably why he chose last night to push the boundaries. I think you get what you tolerate. He's a good kid and I want to keep him that way. Thanks again

Vile Rat was the gaming handle for the guy who posted from the Benghazi consulate, 'Oh shit, someone on the security detail is photographing the compound', or some such, correct?

Mittens? Corps Diplomatique? Do you have a scorecard for non-gamers?

RIP Vile Rat.

23 Hey morons, if you have an iOS device you can download my first app for free -- look for "Enneaglyphs" in the App Store. There's no hobo murder in it, but hey, it's free. Plus there's an update coming, which adds some nice new features, as soon as Apple approves it.

Checking it out now, thanks for the tip.

Also, while Vile Rat was the #1 story this week, there was a little something called Black Mesa released yesterday that I'm surprised not to see mentioned.

32 Since we has gaming thread some initial responses:

http://release.blackmesasource.com/
Update to Half Life using the Source engine. I'm only up to where the military first drops in and tries to kill everyone, but all the big stuff is still in there.  They changed some minor things to keep it interesting, like in the intro a lot of the side labs are populated and you can bust through the glass to get into them to get extra loot or fight more baddies. Free download.

http://diaspora.hard-light.net/
Diaspora.  This one is a Battlestar Galactica space flight sim based on the Freespace Open engine.  Looks nice and handles well once you configure your controls properly.  Gets a bit nuts with the flak clouds and stuff; but I love the toggleable inertial guidance system.  Lets you fly it like a plane or switch to where you can slide sideways and turn, just leeching off your momentum.  Free download.

http://www.ftlgame.com/
FTL.  Think...maybe Rogue with a starship?  I'm having lots of fun with this one, but I'm also a huge nerd.  Basically you have a ship and a crew and are trying to deliver intel to stop some bad rebels.  You get to upgrade your ship as you can afford and want to, get new crew, do fights and diplomacy and such.  Once you die, it's over and you have to start over.  On sale on Steam for like $8.00 today.

Well, I've read a couple of these 'Gaming' threads...looking around.

From what I can tell,  they're pretty much in the 'Gaming and Real Life- Can't Tell the Difference' threads....

37 This isnt the same vile rat that worked overseas in one of the embassies that got attacked is it? Could have swore I saw a post from a guy named vile rat that was also an EVE player and was concerned over the fact that the local Libyan police were casing the building the night before.

38 Hey 'infovore'. Get his widow, and fatherless children on the phone, and tell them that. Sign off with your real name, then feel free to stfu for the rest of your miserable life. Oh...and tell Axeltoad you're being grossly overpaid. A simple handshake, and stiffy up the pooter is all you need to carry on Teh One's divine work.

39 So the WiiU release date has been announced (mid-Nov. for the US).  Anyone going to get one?  I'm trying to convince the wife we should.

Posted by: Hal at September 15, 2012 11:07 AM (2wZs/)

40 RIP.  I don't understand that type of gaming community.. I just shoot stuff, but I appreciate the loss to EVE players and too, I am angry about the circumstances that took 4 lives in Benghazi that shouldn't have happened... and I'm not talking about the administration/MFM distraction about that stupid movie.  That is/was a ploy and is a FAIL on it's face.

Nope. It just doesn't offer much that cannot be retrofitted to the existing consoles most of us already own. SmartGlass on the Xbox will allow a large variety of phones and tablets to interact with the console, while Sony will push using its own Vita handheld game system as an adjunct screen/controller on the PS3.

I guarantee the Wii U will see a price drop before it's been out a year. Around that same time a lot of the early games will be heavily discounted.

I can wait.

43 Current World of Warcraft news:

Great entertainment here. Last night someone playing a Death Knight discovered a bug that allowed him to target and kill characters within his own faction. Within minutes flash mobs of Death Knights appeared on many of the servers and so began a three hour massacre of lowbies, bank alts and NPCs, with Goldshire being the hardest hit. People really hate Goldshire - a favorite location for erotic-role-players.

In the forums last night and today there is intense anger on both sides, with people calling for griefers' heads and the griefers saying they did nothing wrong.

If you are a psych major, just find some threads over (a href="http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/984270/>here</a> and get ready to sport a major boner.

Glad I logged early then. hanging out on Twitter was probably less annoying, and it's been pretty aweful the last few days.

Do you have any toons on Hellscream? I'm trying to get a Horde guild running for the HQ Horde.

RIP Vile_Rat. I don't understand a lot of the details of the tribute either, but my impression is it would be much like losing one of the original members of a tabletop gaming group.

45 Until I take care of some upgrade action I'm not rolling on any server at the moment. Nor am I thoroughly convinced I want to renew my sub. I'm in "wait and see" mode.

Until then, there's always Nehtack.
