The Greatest Event In Television History
— Ace

Paul Rudd did something funny.

For whatever reason, he's long had a dream of recreating, shot-for-shot, the opening titles of semi-funny eighties detective show Simon & Simon. Correction: It looks like this was more Adam Scott's idea than Paul Rudd's.

He did so. And then began promoting this as The Greatest Event In Television History.

They also did a "Behind the Scenes/Making of" tribute to their 2 minute clip, pumping it up, again, as the most amazing thing history. So of course it's hosted by Jeff Probst.

You know what's funny? I was just listening to the Simon & Simon theme earlier this week.

Anyway, the Making of this landmark event in the history of television is below. The recreation begins at 8:39. Well, that's where the countdown starts.

Plus, a side-by-side comparison of the recreation. The recreation stars Adam Scott from Parks & Recreation, and John Hamm from Mad Men.

Thanks to Just the Tip.

Touret-Poster-Boy Joe Biden let slip another gaffe threw engine starter fluid on the fire, and got the Nation's attention, therefore forcing the MSM to play. This story needs another 4 or 5 days of play ... Carney needs to stutter some more, Teh JEF needs to issue statements (probably scaring/enraging the Clintons), several House and Senate Democrats need to feel the heat, and call for an investigation. Biden needs to speak some more ... it is, theoretically, possible to put out a fire by emptying one's colon on it ... we should at least allow Joe the chance to try to fix his ... mistake ... it's only fair. 316 I beg to differ. The Rockford Files was the best show ever made. If Jim Rockford took a punch at the beginning of an episode he was still lamed up from it at the end of the episode. And he lived in trailer near the ocean. It has always been my ambition to live in a trailer near the ocean. Posted by: CharlieSays at October 13, 2012 05:08 PM (2aJHq) I wish I were wrong. My comment pertains mostly to production quality. I think it is harder in shows with car chases and shooting - time takes a greater toll as newer and better techniques come along. Columbo is still really good, probably best detective show, because it only relies on dialogue.

318 So many good episodes of Magnum. My favorites was the one with Ivan (Did you see the sunrise this morning?) and the one where they go back to Vietnam (with Higgins fighting alongside!).

320 317 -

See, that's the kind of thing I don't mind about Rockford.  Car chases are underwhelming, when drivers are not assumed to be NASCAR-level daredevils zooming through the streets at breakneck speed.  Hubcaps fly off, tail ends bang into parked cars, etc.

It may be less exciting, but it's more realistic.

316....I've avoided re-watching Magnum for that very reason. I don't want to ruin it for myself.

The scene in the intro...where he is giving snorkeling lessons to a babe, and looks down at her butt, then looks away...

That is still funny.

It's the humor in Magnum PI that is standing the test of time...imho.

My favorite was when Magnum went back east to visit family.  It's a difficult visit because he doesn't get along with his stepdad, and  part of it was the relationship dynamic between Thomas, the stepdad, and Thomas' younger brother.

The closing moments of the show are Thomas visiting the Vietnam wall, with Joe Cocker's version of "I Shall Be Released" playing in the background.  If that doesn't make you tear up like a man, you aren't really a man.

Good point.  Recently my daughter heard a reference to someone having a mustache "like Magnum" and she didn't know what it meant.  So I explained it to her, and ended up describing the show in some detail, at some length.

Now, it's not always easy to get a 17 year old to sit and listen to you for very long.  For some odd reason though, she was very interested in my description of Magnum and his life of beaches and babes and chest hair, etc.

333 2 terrorist killed in IAF strikes in Gaza Air Force launches two strikes in Gaza killing two members of Mujahideen Shura Council who planned to carry out terrorist attack in Sukkot, were involved in previous attacks against Israel Elior Levy Latest Update: 10.13.12, 21:33 / Israel News Two Mujahideen Shura Council operatives who planned to carry out a terrorist attack during Sukkot were killed Saturday in two Air Force strikes in Gaza. One of the terrorists was involved in the firing of a rocket that hit a backyard in Netivot on Friday and the other helped carry out the border attack that claimed the life of Said Fashapshe last June. Hey I think this is great but I'm a little concerned with cost/benefit thingy here. I mean an Air Force strike ain't cheap. I think you should take out at least 50 of the enemy. 337 Maybe I'm biased about Rockford because I lived in SoCal about the time of the show.  Used to eat in a place much like Jim Rockford did--red plush leather and the chopped steak lunch + a beer was nearly the same price as McDonalds, perfect for a struggling actor.  The roads were still good, the economy was secure, despite Jimmah, and dreams were still possible to fulfill (even if I didn't make it as an actor because I, uh, well, kinda sucked).  Now I read Victor David Hanson and it makes me sad.

When Tom Selleck did that commercial for National Review....Magnum PI was cancelled not long after that.

It was still getting top ratings.

I think it was the top rated show on CBS at the time.

And they cancelled it.

So...I will always attribute it being cancelled, to Selleck openly touting a conservative magazine.

No matter what they said about it, at the time.

Well, its a good thing the country went thru the whole civil rights thing:

The Florida State Board of Education passed a plan that sets goals for students in math and reading based upon their race.

On Tuesday, the board passed a revised strategic plan that says that by 2018, it wants 90 percent of Asian students, 88 percent of white students, 81 percent of Hispanics and 74 percent of black students to be reading at or above grade level.

Its a civil right to have lower expectations.  Or something.

Uh oh, at the risk of being labled a concern troll, Romneys American flag story is bound to set the left off on a tangent. Albiet one which will create nuclear blowback like the rest have done.

Short version - They found the flag in the debri field of Challenger space shuttle, and said it was flying at the end of the table over there by Mitt Romney. He reached out and lifted it up and it was as if electricity had run through his arm.
