— Slublog The list, via the New York Times:

There were heroes to remember among the victims.
Also, our media? They're disgraceful, shameful, awful human beings. The word 'jackals' comes to mind.
Finally, where there are no words, there's always music. I've always loved this song.
Again, if you've got kids, give them an extra hug or two tonight morons.

May God hold each in His mighty hand and comfort them. May He give peace to the familes. And may He give charge over the slain children to the stout-hearted Vicky Soto, whose bravery saved so many.
And may the perpetrator be forgotten on Earth, and thrown into the hottest corner of Hell for this demonic act.

Came the vulture press
The blood was still in flow and warm
They photographed the mess
Before the parents were alarmed
They'd filed a thousand stories
This day of horror for us all
They see their greatest glory

Christmas presents bought, wrapped and stashed away for their little
ones. Absolutely terrible, I can't even imagine.
I thought of that as well. Awful.
-----
Same here, as well. I was out doing last minute Christmas shopping today with Mr. Black. We'd be going about our day, talking, laughing about this or that....and then my thoughts would revert back to these little children, and their grieving parents so full of sorrow that I can't even imagine. I laid in bed last night thinking of them. I woke up and thought of those parents. May God heal their aching souls.

They think justice is possible. They think mankind is perfectible.
It's the most tragic and horrible lie one can believe.
In this case and many others, I think they know full well they can't do anything to "fix it", but they want that self-righteous feeling of thinking that they've done something. It's about their own need to feel important, not about the innocent victims.

The parents right now are in shock I would imagine. The really bad shit for them is yet to come, after all those around have left and they're alone. Whenever they see a young child on the street somewhere
6 or 16, it's hell for a parent to lose a child

According to the news stories, the population is 27,000. I lived in the next town over (Brookfield) for several years as a child. My cousins lived in Newtown for quite a while when they were growing up. The whole area is very bucolic and beautiful and SAFE. There is just no way something like this could ever happen. I went to mass this evening and our priest was just so sad about this horrible tragedy.
He reminded us that all of this suffering is because of sin entering the world. Sin is what causes all sorts of grief, including the mental illness sparked by revenge or hatred.
God has not abandoned us or the families who survive. The children are in heaven. They wil be waiting to hug their parents when they arrive.
The lesson from this, our priest said, is that no matter how angry we are with people in our family, we should remember how sad we would be if they were taken from us, and remember this and make peace with them.
We are given the gift of life and familial love. We should learn from this tragedy and cherish our children, our parents, and our siblings.
We are not promised a life without suffering. We are promised that Christ will be with us to comfort us and share in it.
God bless you all.

Yes, I was sort of surprised how long the shock lasted and how generally functional I was to start with (and that was with the loss of a spouse, not a child which I firmly believe would be much worse) When that wears off the change can be very shocking.
Several people are from that area, is there a compassionate friends group there? My in-laws said it probably saved their marriage with the death of their first son, and he wasn't even a child, and apparently it's very helpful in learning how to adjust to the new "normal" without that child who was part of your life.

Not surprised at this. The Dallas Cowboys player that was killed family invited the player who was driving to the funeral. That is what a Christian is supposed to do. I don't know if I would meet that standard if I was in their place.

"You want to know why. This may sound cynical, but here's why.
It's because of the way the media reports it. Flip on the news and watch how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single *victim* of Columbine? Disturbed
people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basements see the news and want to top it by doing something worse, and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he'll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody.
CNN's article says that if the body count "holds up", this will rank as the second deadliest shooting behind Virginia Tech, as if statistics somehow make one shooting worse than another. Then they post a video interview of third-graders for all the details of what they saw and heard while the shootings were happening. Fox News has plastered the killer's face on all their reports for hours. Any articles or news stories yet that focus on the victims and ignore the killer's identity? None that I've seen yet. Because they don't sell. So congratulations, sensationalist media, you've just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or a maternity ward next.
You can help by forgetting you ever read this man's name, and remembering the name of at least one victim. You can help by donating to mental health research instead of pointing to gun control as the problem. You can help by turning off the news."

Elementary school. Most, if not all, teachers tend to be females. The school systems probably also try to put the male teachers into the upper levels so that they can serve as coaches and help with the unruly ones when they get bigger and older.
When I was in middle school, the city started putting police officers in the schools, sadly, I think police officers will start being in Elementary schools from now on.

Just saying...there wouldn't have been 26 people dead if all teachers were required to have a concealed carry permit and had to carry and know how to use a gun. Since it's obvious that the government cannot take away all guns (especially the criminals), then the only solution is to require all teachers and administrators to pack heat.

I quit watching about two hours after the event was reported.
What I have learned so far is that the perpetrator was a very brilliant but shy and withdrawn honor student 20 years old who was still in the 10th grade, and had a minimum of two 'disabilities' including autism and an undiagnosed mental health problem.
This needs more than the "48 hour rule".

Angry at the media and leftist jackals who will use this to advance their agenda.
I'd be in favor of putting some teachers and school administrators through something like the armed pilot program.

Remember when we were a representative republic and these sorts of issues used to be discussed on the record, in public, by Congress, instead of by cronies behind locked doors?
Good times, good times...

Otherwise, why the altercation with the school staff the day earlier?

They've never mentioned what his current status as a student was. Also, I believe at the CT State police presser today the state trooper said he was unaware of any altercation at the school prior to the shooting. So that story may have been wrong. Shocker, I know!

I am a Catholic. I stick with what the catechism says and ignore th eleftist priests like Father Flager in Chicago. They are heretics.
There are many churches which will strengthen your faith. Look them up on line and find the one which suits your thinking.
God needs us as his soldiers. We need to participate.
Bless you.

Awful, just awful.
Morose, I started thinking about wars--every war I could. I started thinking about all the little tiny bodies, tinier even than those left on that schoolroom floor yesterday, that lay on ground bloodied by bombs, shells, whatever...all the tiny babies who were incinerated that day in Hiroshima, then Nagasaki. They are in my head, all the babies that every were, all the little ones that ever took a breath only to have the adults in their world not protect them from the madness of the adult world.
Sorry, as if yesterday were not enough......

That's because it has nothing to do with religion. Think about it; is spree killing by lunatic loners common throughout the 'heathen' world? Not really.
It's a result of small communities being broken down and absorbed into anonymous, urban sprawl. In small towns and villages where everyone knows everyone, nutters like this one were taken care of quietly and early.
Can we return to some idyll-like golden age of small towns and villages? Is some revival going to save our temporal and timeless selves?
Nope. Technology and time march on.

Don't watch the coverage, even on Fox. It causes the other nuts to act out, too. The guy in Newport Beach was dressed all in leather and shooting wildly in the air. Of course, it's an upscale, liberal town so no one was carrying, but a cop managed to deck him. Inspired by the media.
The media knows how to stop this, but they won't... MONEY!
Over a million hits, watch the whole thing:

There was a time when I would have used quotation marks in referring to paparazzi as journalists, but that stopped around the time the paparazzi started showing more restraint than the MSM. At least a celeb-stalker doesn't lecture you on why they have a right to harass and degrade you...

I just emailed all of my Congressmen to ask that they avoid calls to add new gun laws. Laws passed in haste because of a crisis are almost never good laws. History is full of far too many examples of horror at the hands of a government who has disarmed its populace.
Please don't forget that our Senators and Representatives are our front line right now (unless you live in a blue state and they are douche bags.)

If parents of the children, dead or alive, knew each other well, the parents of the dead children will wonder, when they see the others grow, what might've been, if the bullet was two inches to the right. Ten years from now those kids might be getting ready for their proms.
How long before the parents of the children who survived can make eye-contact with the parents who lost their children? Can they bring themselves to condole those parents, can they be sure that their condolences would be expected. All they can say, is, "there but for the Grace of God ..."
